| ~ • ~ | Character Basics | ~ • ~ |
.:Name:. Derrick .:Nick Name:. Derrick .:Affiliation:. Luna; Floukru. Allied with Trikru. His loyalties are towards Luna and his people above all else. .:Age:. 21.
| ~ • ~ | Appearance | ~ • ~ |
.:Physical Appearance:. There are three distintive features he has that makes him him. His height, the distinctive tattoo on his head and the net he wears around his neck. This is made of fishing net with a metal circle at the front. It's weird but he likes it. Most of his clothing is patchy, made from old clothes sewn together. He often has a serious look on his face unless he's around children or Luna and his tanned features hold dark eyes and both a nice moustache and beard. .:Height:. 6' 1" (1.85 m) .:Portrayed by:. George Tchortov
| ~ • ~ | Personality | ~ • ~ |
.:Personality:. Derrick may look somewhat intimidating but he is far from it, well not entirely. For the most part he is a big teddy bear, gentle and kind especially to those of Floukru. He likes to be approachable, especially to the kids who have escaped war and he does his best to impart knowledge, even if there are more informative clan members. To outsiders, he puts on an intimidating front, preferring to use that and words to avoid any proper violent confrontation. He has a natural wariness to outsiders that he doesn't know(Skaikru) and those with violent reputations(Azgeda). Even so, he is willing to give them a chance so long as they don't do anything stupid.
Although he has an aversion to violence, he will fight if needed especially if it's in defense against enemies. He also prefers to fight off the rig if he has too, not wanting to bring that in a place of safety and peace.
He's incredibly loyal to his clan and Luna especially. Though he knows she can take care of herself, he acts somewhat as a bodyguard - which considering he is one of Luna's seconds this is easy to see why he's so protective. If people want to see Luna, they have to first convince him they are no threat. If people want on the rig, they had to convince him it's not out of malice. His duty to his leader and the clan come before any outsider. .:Special Skills:. Does intimidation count? As one of Luna's seconds, he knows how to fight, primarily from his childhood and this was more learning how to defend rather than kill. Being on the rig he also knows how to fish for food, using ropes and hooks and he also knows how to row boats as he was taught by one of Floukru in order to reach between land and the rig.
| ~ • ~ | History | ~ • ~ |
.:Birthplace:. Unknown .:Family:. His parents statuses are unknown .:Occupation:. Luna's Second, guard, fisher. .:History:. Derrick doesn't like to talk much about his past. For him, the past in the past, there is no need to go dragging it up. Growing up he was the scrawniest, the runt and although his father looked at him with disdain and disappointment, he was still taught the ways of the world. Derrick assumes his mother told his father that he had too since his mother was much more kinder than father ever was.
Though never any good, Derrick learned how to fight, and much like what his father was taught, it was way of defense rather than offense. One could not protect their home from invaders if they couldn't fight.
When the Heda died and the conclave began, he anxiously waited for the outcome, knowing he would have to say goodbye to one, maybe two of his best friends. Luna and her brother had been childhood friends of his and while they had been off training, he had almost gotten himself killed and he had killed. When Luna fled after her first match, Derrick naturally went with her, vowing to support her in any way he could.
During his journey, he came across a family he knew growing up, their bodies butchered and left for the flies. It was the first of many deaths he would see in his life, though most were from battles that he would never be part of. Though he wishes he could count himself as one of the ones who has never taken a life, he has killed before, out of defense rather than wanting to kill.
Living on the rig, he remained by Luna's side, even when she became leader of Floukru and made sure that if anyone wanted to see her, they had to go through him. He'd grown from a scrawny kid to a rather intimidating size and he found other ways to resolve conflict without killing. There were times when he would leave the rig to pick up those who called via the signal fire, a couple of times meeting children who fled war with their dying parents wanting their children to live in peace.
Sometimes he thinks about his mother, and his hated father, he is content. He has a true family here on the rig and he wouldn't change his life for the world.
You all know the rest

All these emotions, for someone who wasn't used to feeling such things, was quite scary. As one of the commanders in training, she was supposed to be focused on that training, on becoming a good commander. This wasn't being a good commander. What was it that was said? Love was weakness, to be commander was to be alone. It explained why it was only the commander that lead and that she never saw them with anyone else. A lone figure with the weight of the clan on their shoulders. Lexa understood a little. Without having anyone else, that meant enemies couldn't use them against you.
Yet to deny that one feeling that made everything better seemed even crazier. To like someone more than a friend, why deny that? She had been slightly afraid of her emotions, and more than slightly afraid of telling Ontari as if those emotions were somehow forbidden and the punishment was death(it was technically forbidden but they weren't going to be killed because of it. Their rare blood saved them from a lot of things). What she had been afraid of most was if Ontari didn't feel the same way and then somehow she ruined their friendship because of feelings she had. Despite not devoting all her time to these thoughts, she had spent enough to warrant imaging everything that could go wrong.
And she waited. Waited to hear the words she was dreading to hear except when Ontari spoke, they were far different from her imagination. But I think I like you too, and Lexa felt her heart skip a beat and the breath that she had been holding escaped in a puff of air. Relief flooded her system and Lexa couldn't help but smile as she leaned closer. Not to kiss her, no she would only do that if Ontari wanted her to(she wanted to kiss her but she also respected Ontari enough not to push) but just to share the close space with Ontari. To show her that she would always be by her side. "I'm so relieved to hear. I was so scared that you might not think the same way." Lexa admitted, almost shyly. It was silly though because this was Ontari, her best friend and someone she cared for and trusted more than anyone else.

"As they should be." Lexa responded simply. She cared little if they were afraid of her, that meant they were less likely to rise up and do something that would mean their deaths. She was a fair commander, not someone who thrived on killing everyone in her path.
Lexa looked at Clarke and thought over her question. She couldn't put her in the cells because the others would want to tear her apart because of what the might percieve her as. An enemy from the mountain. And until she knew the truth, she couldn't risk that. "You will be given one of the rooms we use for political prisoners. I cannot have you going into the dungeon. Until I know for certain about your words I'd rather avoid having you ripped apart."
She was keeping up with the story, Lexa gave her that. "This is Polis. The capitol of the Coalition. I am the Commander, the leader of my people. The Coalition is made up of the clans that once stood divided." It was the heart of her people, where political meetings were held and were they were safe because Lexa did not allow anyone aside from her most trusted guards to carry weapons. She knew the dangers of that all too well.

Lexa tilted her head as the young woman, Gena, spoke. The words came as no surprise considering what she knew of regarding the attack. All because they thought she was too weak leaving the mountain to stand rather than finish destroying it like they should have. This was her fault, more blood on her hands that were already stained crimson. "No it wasn't. This was the result of Azgeda. As you know by now they are a cruel clan." Everyone knew it and saying it wasn't breaking some secret. "I've already sent my men out to find out who helped Azgeda. They had no knowledge of that mountain and this will not go unpunished. Meanwhile I have had Nia arrested for her part in the attack.""War could still very well happen and for that we must prepare." Lexa continued to look at her. "As to what has happened, that is simple." Lexa began, feeling rather proud of what she had managed to accomplish despite what she had done that could have ensured Skaikru being her enemy for the rest of her life. No matter how long or short that would be. "The night of the bombing was the night in which I made Skaikru the 13th clan. Any attack on you is an attack on me." A fact that Azgeda wasn't counting on beforehand, probably hoping they would accomplish their deeds before the summit finished, or maybe hoping that it would break the summit apart. Regardless was the fact that Skaikru were part of their coalition now. Though they couldn't attack their own clans if they attacked the enemy, they could retaliate should a clan attack another without provocation. In this instance Azgeda bombing the mountain and killing Skaikur - that would be means for retaliation. Gena Martin((ooc// i forgot the actual reason why MW was blown up xDD))

Costia
They had fought. The last thing they had done was fight with words with Lexa's intention of making it up to her when Costia returned to Polis. She never got the chance. Instead of word with Costia returning, one of her guards informed that something had happened in the forests just outside the city. Costia's horse had been found abandoned with no Costia in sight. As if she had simply vanished. Lexa knew otherwise. Costia wouldn't simply vanish, she was taken. The news of her disappearance had hit Lexa like a knife to her heart and she had to take a moment to let it sink in. Titus had to order the guards to leave before rounding on Lexa. Both had different views on the subject - Titus thought love was weakness, Lexa did not. And she held up a hand, refusing him permission to speak. "You're going to tell me to leave her." Lexa pulled her head up to stare coldly at him.
They didn't know where she was or what happened. Lexa wasn't stupid. Costia would never leave her horse willingly and if she was taken in Trikru territory that meant an enemy that was sly, cunning and overconfident. "Azgeda took her." For that she was certain. No amount of being swayed could alter her thoughts on the matter. Not even Titus who tried to tell her to remain calm and think about the situation. Lexa thought on it and knew if they left Costia in the hands of Azgeda, then she wouldn't be coming home alive. Titus was not pleased especially when Lexa alluded to finding Costia and bringing her home, with her included. Such risks were not something the Flamekeeper wanted his Heda to go through. This was her fault and she knew it and she could not have Costia paying the price for Lexa.
It had taken time, too much time, to find out the information and form a plan. It involved getting Azgeda clothing and wearing it as they rode horses to the ice nation territory, only stopping when they needed to rest for the night and carry on in the morning. Further north they went, the colder the air got, cooling the exposed skin of those riding. It didn't stop her but spurred her onward, knowing every second could be a second too late. She wasn't sure what she would do if Costia died and she really didn't want to think of it even if it was such a strong possibility. Azgeda were not a force to be reckoned with and this mission, this plan, was suicide. If caught they would be killed and even a retaliation wouldn't do much good - Azgeda was the strongest clan out of them all.
Lexa leaped off the horse and peered cautiously. Though the need to find Costia was urgent, they were in enemy territory and they had to be careful. It took hiding in shadows, listening to guards and piecing together the information to find out the exact location, all while the nerves in Lexa's body thrummed to an unbearable feeling. She had separated from her guards while they searched, only to pass word a few hours later to put the rest of their plan on motion. Still acting normal, Lexa began to make her way to the cells. Since she didn't want to be found out, she still wore Azgeda clothing, not even realizing how Costia might react when she saw. If she saw. No, she is alive. I know she is. She had to be.
The cell door was closed and locked, though it didn't take too long before the lock came right off and Lexa was able to slide the door open. When she saw her alive, Lexa let out a breath that she hadn't even knew she had been holding.

Of course they hadn't made it. Once in proper line of sight and territory, her warriors had taken it upon themselves to potentially rid a threat. And use the boy as a warning to the others. While the girl kept talking, Lexa kept staring at her, trying to see if she could tell if the girl was lying or telling the truth. Though she couldn't risk if this was the enemy, what she knew of the mountain didn't fit in with how the girl was behaving. "You crossed into territory. You know what happens." Lexa began and then stopped her line of thinking where it stood. "You would know if you were from the mountain."
She was starting to believe the words. It didn't make sense with what she knew of the enemy. An enemy that was strong and proud and could rain bullets and demons on them if they so wished. Not an enemy who would bow down to the might of the grounders. And now she had a choice to make. She couldn't just follow her now, not without informing those she needed to inform in case this was a trap. It was also starting to get dark and that was not an advantage for her at all. All her thoughts were starting to spin and she had to think of a plan that would be logical and make sense and overall be safe. And she was pretty sure she had thought of it.
"I cannot leave now. And neither will you. I also cannot have you running around the city. For now you will be my prisoner. Tomorrow we leave for your people and if you are lying, I will slit your throat and leave you to Pauna." Lexa made sure to get close enough to Clarke so that she could see how serious she was, how this was not a game to her(and it wasn't a game to Clarke either) and that she would not hesitate to kill if she needed too.

Klara
"If thet do, then let them. I will not be swayed by doing what I feel is right for my people" Lexa was trouble on a daily basis if anyone could believe that. Her in trouble with her own people wasn't something new and it would happen again, so long as she was doing what she felt was right for them. As leader, she had to think of everything, not just one thing and often the rest were blinded because they didn't have experience or understand. It was something she learned early on in her training - that not everyone was going to agree and not everyone had the mind of a leader.
Lexa merely looked at her and wished she could counter with what was truly in her mind. Do their people deserve to be lead by a murderer? Murder far outstriped stealing yet she couldn't speak of the conclave in that manner. "Being a thief doesn't have to define you." Lexa added, giving a slight pause before she continued. "They might live in better conditions and they might not. Right now they are alive and they are cared for. Which goes a long way, much more than what you think."
A difficult question for certain. "Yes and no. It would have depended on the person. Someone who would benefit from this, and someone our people would benefit from as well. As for why? You have skills. And we need those skills." Lexa inclined her head and began to walk back to the commander's throne yet she didn't sit down, not yet. "Of course. And you have permission to do so." Lexa wasn't blind or stupid. Klara needed to go with the person so that they would all feel better. Yet if Klara thought she could escape her new duties then Lexa was going to have to dash those hopes.

Lexa had already sent out some of her people to the edge where mountain met her territory to make sure nothing had been broken. She had thought about sending them to make sure the ruins were just ruins yet she knew how her people felt. And there would be no survivors, just a grave full of lost souls, killed by Azgeda. Busying herself in punishing Azgeda, when word arrived of her guards arriving with someone injured, someone who didn't fight back, Lexa ordered their arrival.
"Those who stand before the Commander needs to bow." Titus spoke in his usual gruff voice. Lexa merely shot him a look to keep him from talking any further - most of Skaikru didn't know the proper greetings or how to behave and while she should have told the girl herself that she should bow, she was more interested in the words she was speaking. In the mountain before Azgeda attacked. She survived when the rest had perished in the flames. How? Lexa stared at the girl, no, she stared at Gena, before she spoke. "You survived the bombing of the mountain."
Surely this would be good news for Arkadia. One of their own was alive. "How did you when the rest of those inside perished?" Lexa wanted to know, as if it would some how alleviate her own guilt. Because her own weakness had been something Azgeda pounced on, used it, and killed for it. "You are the only survivor. It's a heavy burden to shoulder. If you are who you say you are then word will be sent to Arkadia. Until then, you will stay here." Under Lexa's protection. She wasn't going to let Azgeda kill anymore.
"I'd imagine you have questions." Lexa left it open so that Gena could ask her whatver question was on her mind.

Lexa could remember when she was first brough to Polis and into the throne room where she met the former Heda. It was a rather terrifying experience, not knowing what to expect and fearing any repercussions of accidentally doing the wrong thing. Just as Titus was to bring the new novitiates to see her, he had been the one to bring her to the capital all those years ago and sitting in the throne room to wait brought back memories she thought were long buried. As custom for her, Lexa knew the names of her new novitiates and the one being brought before her today was named Aden. A young boy, frightened. She could see it in his eyes, the way he moved. She knew Titus - the man was not one for being gentle and she could only imagine the words spoken before he came here.
The doors had opened to let Titus and the boy in after he had knocked. It didn't take the Flamekeeper long before he was telling the kid to kneel. She remained seated, her expression betraying no emotion as she studied him. Age didn't matter when it came to a Nightblood. He was small but then so was she when she arrived in Polis for the first time. The small were often more mighty than their bigger counterparts. "Thank you Titus." Lexa lifted up her hand and Titus did as he was told though this was more habit now rather than anything else. After a few moments, Lexa pulled herself to her feet, striding towards Aden in all her full decked out glory except without the warpaint around her eyes. But she was clothed in the commanders outfit.
Not the first time she had been called intimidating and her plan was not to scare him any further. Her expression softened a little as she reached for his face, to lift his chin up so she could see his eyes. "I know how frightening this must be. But you have nothing to fear from me." Lexa spoke softly, resuming to her full height and waiting for him to stand up as well. He had knelt but that was no longer needed of him. "Tell me Aden. Do you know why you were brought here?" She asked, waiting to see how much she knew and what she would need to tell him. Titus was the teacher but so was the Heda and both of them together would be training the Nightbloods for becoming the next Commander. As the previous Heda had done with her, she would do for the next 'generation.'

@klara
Lexa wasn't just thinking one or two steps ahead but several. By putting Klara in the cells, that would mean the orphans she took care of would have no-one to watch over them. Without a guardian they could get hurt or in trouble and Lexa would have solved nothing. But by putting Klara as a scout, that meant she would still be able to protect and take care of the kids, it would mean the rest would see her doing some good for the grounders. If she had word that she stole again after this, Lexa wasn't entirely sure what she would do but that was a worry for another time. Her main concern was the conversation at hand and one that Lexa felt strongly about.
"I can and I will." Lexa spoke with authority. No amount of words would sway her decision. "And your kids? Do they deserve their guardian and mentor to be locked away?" Lexa shook her head every so slightly. "You've done good in this life as well. Don't forget it. Without you those kids probably wouldn't be here today."
"That may be true but it's never too late to learn. You have the knack for learning, Klara. You will do this. I'm afraid you don't have the choice in the matter." She didn't always enjoy commanding those around her, especially her friends. It was one of those good/bad things of being Heda. "You will be trained by one of the experienced scouts under my command. Should you need someone to look after the kids we can arrange something. They will be protected regardless, you have my word." This would allow Klara to train with those under her care being looked after carefully.
And everyone knew what happened if someone hurt those under her protection.

Clarke Griffin
What was more worrying was the fact the girl had managed to get into the city. Once she had crossed into Trikru territory, she should have been killed and strung up as a message. Yet here she stood. She didn't wear the clothing that the mountain wore; the garb that protected them from the elements. Her scouts had told her of such things and past kills, as rare as they were, confirmed it.
The girl spoke, which made her even more curious though aware she could be lying just to save her own skin. But the sky, that was something she knew. "This is Polis, the capitol of my people. Which you should know if you came from the mountain." Lexa spoke, watching her to see her reaction, try to feel if she was lying or simply telling the truth. She couldn't just believe her right away. "As much as I'd like to take your word for it, it wouldn't be a very wise thing to do. You could still be the enemy, claiming to fall from the skies with the rest of them."
If she believed without thinking then she wouldn't be a good leader and could very well be putting her people in danger and that was not something she was willing to do.
Her voice was cold. "If you happen to be lying you will be killed and used as a message, make no mistake." As kind as she could be to her allies, she was just as cold to her enemy. An enemy that wasn't under her coalition and therefore she didn't need to be careful on her actions. Killing her wouldn't incur the wrath like if it was one of the clans.
And yet, and yet, if the girl was telling the truth then Lexa might very well have more allies. She needed to be careful on how to proceed her, for good or for ill.
((ooc// I have a feeling Lexa will want to have her arrested and thrown into the cells for a few days while she mulls things over, depending on how things go. She is so wary LOL.))

you think our ways are harsh but that is just how we survive Lexa felt guilty enough without him adding to it. He had every right to feel the way he did but did he not understand her side? "Tell me this. If our roles were reversed, would you have taken the deal and left my people to die?" She tilted her head, watching him with eyes that betrayed no hint of emotion. Having to keep reminding herself that these people were not like hers, that they knew nothing of their ways or politics, it was hard. Half the things they said and did would usually get a reprimand and she hoped there would be a day when she didn't have to keep explaining. It was tiring and something she needed to keep doing. Ah the fun part of being leader, que the sarcasm right then and there.
"If I had evacuated, then the mountain would know they had a traitor. You probably would have been found and both sides killed. While it was nessecary, it is something that will haunt me until the end of my days." No matter what people may have thought, the decision, while logical, had hurt her deeply. She hadn't wanted to let them die, sky people and her own but it had been important to do so. Both sides didn't agree with her actions, Lexa knew that. She'd protected her people at the cost of them not having blood. Blood must have blood, the mantra, the very life blood of their society and she had denied them that.
Foot, not horse. This was bad. Wolves were fast animals, they could keep up even with horses but at least horses would get him further away, possibly to safety, in that event. When the howl ended, another picked up, sounding closer, and Lexa did not, could not, let the fear show on her features. "Yes. From the sounds of it there is more than one. They usually stay away from most of the villages but if they hunger enough." Lexa let her words hang in the air, knowing he would understand exactly what she was meaning. If wolves hungered enough they would come for them no matter where they were and since they were close, it could only be one reason.
Lexa did not plan on becoming a wolf's meal today. Her hand reached for her sword, gripping it tightly within her hand as she waited to hear another howl that would allow them to at least have a better idea on where they were. After several tense seconds, another howl rent the air. They needed to make a decision and quickly; to stay and fight or run and hide because the wolves would circle around to try and trap them. Lexa was going to stay and fight. Not because she had anything to prove but because she knew they wouldn't be able to hide for too long. Lexa had to reign in her emotions. Kane knew her mother which meant he could answer the burning questions she had yet that wasn't all. Kane dropped a bombshell that seemed to rock her entire world, shattering what she thought she knew. For a moment she wanted to call him a liar, have him locked up for daring to speak such lies but this was why she let logic rule in place of emotion. It made no sense to be a lie. It wouldn't get him anywhere, in fact it would be more dangerous if people knew because it could very well threaten everything she had built. In turn, it would threaten Skaikru. Most of the clans would not settle for the news(not that she planned on telling them, just the what if).
The words continued to echo in her head and she closed her hand into a fist before reopening it. Her emotions traveled through her, making her unable to stay very still, almost as if she were a live wire ready to crackle. If the words were true, and she suspected nothing less from Kane kom Skaikru, then she had no idea what to do. So many questions buzzed in her mind that she quashed down; some that would bring her no closure and it wasn't closure that she sought out. She could ask if he knew, or why he didn't stop her from jumping to the ground but that solved nothing more than a child's curiosity. It had no bearing on her here and now, what happened happened and she couldn't change the fact.
Her hands, the one that wasn't too balled into a fist, carefully set the patch back down on the table, her eyes glinting, her face trying to remain schooled from her teachings. But the cracks were already appearing, the emotions she struggled to contain all but breaking through. "If you were anyone else, I would have you arrested. I have no reason to believe the words you speak. But I'd like to think I know you, trust you, enough to know you are telling the truth." She spoke after a moment of thought, turning to face him - she noticed he had stepped closer, when had that happened? When she was busy almost drowning in her own thoughts? It was all making sense though and she had to shyly admit that she wanted this.
Lexa had never had proper parents. When she was found to be a Natblida, she was taken by the scouts to see Titus and train under his tutelage. He was the closest thing to a 'parent' that she ever had though teacher was the primary role he played. Second closest was their previous Heda. Her fellow Natblida's were all considered siblings, not parents and so she was very out of her element and had absolutely no idea what to do. How to act. How to feel. And so she stared at him, emotions flicking behind her eyes as she struggled to grasp onto one that wouldn't send her skyrocketing. "I don't know what to say or what to do. Or even how to feel. I've never exactly been in this position, nor have I ever had proper parents."
She swallowed back the emotions threatening to overwelm her. Had this been even a month ago she would have him killed - now she was ready to embrace not only him but the rest of the Sky people. All the more reason why this plan of hers needed to succeed. "My father." She spoke, the words rolling off her tongue pleasantly. "Out of everyone that it could be, I'm glad, and honored, that it's you." Marcus Kane
