From the moment Aurora had stepped into the storage room on, she felt the weight of her actions on her shoulder. They were on a sinking ship, she had known it ever since she almost lost her son to the fact, but it got all the more real, once she saw the almost empty storage. Soon the people would start dying, would ask questions as to why their ration points could no longer provide them, why there was nothing given out anymore. With the limited supplies, she and others had rallied to give them out. Soon there would be no use for them anymore. A good amount of the people here would die, no matter what happened, they might as well die on a not so empty stomach.
Aurora was just setting up the last water tank here on factory station, as she saw a familiar face joining the lines of the helpers with the charity. She was surprised to see Braeden, whom she knew to be Bellamys girlfriend, helping them. Given her job, she would have expected she might be needed at unity day, then again many people basically fought to be security on Unity Day, especially those who had kids in the play. Well, it was good she was here, things could easily get out of hand, especially with the tension rising. “Braeden! Good timing. I need someone at the water with me. That will be the place we’ll get most people at!”

By some grand stroke of luck Aurora had the day off. She could prepare for the next day, mostly by taking this day without training or boring theory slowly. She had gotten up later than usual, had cleaned her apartment and then had gone through her clothes. Thanks to her grandmother – someone who was actually still born on the ground – she could fix her clothing. Tracy had taught Aurora how to sew, crochet and knit when she was just a kid. Aurora loved doing it. Her clothes usually lasted her very long and even if they didn’t, she could just make something new out of them.
Aurora was just at fixing a few of her pants when she heard the knock on the door. The brunette didn’t expect anyone to come by, her friends knew this was her day off before the first working shift. They knew she wanted to spend that day alone and relaxing. It might be something important or just one of the friends needing emergency help, though, so Aurora got up to open the door in the state she was in: Meaning only hotpants, which barely covered her ass – she was at home, she could wear that – and a figure hugging top, that accentuated her curves in all the right ways, at least in her eyes. Aurora knew to use her body, but right now she was actually dressed for comfort, as she opened the door for her superior. Now he was the kind of person she shouldn’t necessarily dress like that around. She couldn’t feel bad for it either. Marcus Kane, her Senior Officer was good looking himself and the way some of his shirts clung to his muscles should be illegal.
“Senior Office Kane.” Aurora smiled at him, stepping aside to offer for him to come inside. “Of course I have a moment. Take a seat, please. Do you want something? A drink?”

It was a bit of a sad sight, if she was honest with herself. Aurora barely had anything. She had given up a lot, when she decided she wanted to have this baby. She didn’t need a lot, of course. Most of the things she had given up were exchanged for things for the baby, clothing, the first furniture. Aurora had packed all of it into just a few boxes, which she could easily carry to Marcus’ place. They would live together, it still felt surreal, but he wanted this baby as well. He wanted to witness the remaining pregnancy and be there for the baby and they would change the name on the permit to Marcus’ name, if they could, making the baby his in all cases. Aurora picked up a onesie, holding it with a soft smile.
As the door opened, she expected it to be Marcus, probably wanting to help her with the boxes. The hand on her ass just confirmed the idea in her mind. That changed once the person opened his mouth. Grus. Aurora twisted out of his grasp, but he wouldn’t get the idea. The man came closer, pulled her to him, his hands going back to her ass. “What the hell, Grus? Let go of me!” Aurora protested. She would punch him. She knew he deserved it, this filthy piece of shit. “The way I see it, I won’t do that, Aurora. You see, I know about your little affair with Kane. If you don’t want your hubby to know, you’ll do me a little favor.” That, now, was seriously disgusting. Aurora was too shocked at what he suggested, at how his hand traveled up under her shirt to punch him. She felt physically sick at the suggestion, too sick to even open her mouth. He wasn't finished, it appeared. "I could make you."

“Neither was I.” Aurora admitted. She hadn't known if she would have the strength to stay. She couldn’t imagine it just moments earlier with her son killing himself and nobody stopping it. Then again who was to do so? The council couldn’t go back on it, no matter how pointless it was. But there was something else keeping Aurora here, something that weighed way more heavily on her than anything else, even more heavily than she expected. Aurora felt the tension between them. While it bothered her, she knew neither of them was to blame. This was a situation neither of them had faced before. They acted on impulse on feelings, she had to deal with it and might have to deal with much more, but she knew she’d try, anything, to be there for him. She’d do anything to keep this family together even after breaking apart.
“I couldn’t leave you. I made a vow once. Through the good days and the bad. I can’t possibly imagine worse days. I’m not leaving. I’m afraid for you.” If he wanted her to leave, she would, but she would fight for him. She knew him. She knew he’d try to stay strong, but she wanted to be there for him, to carry part of the weight he’d place on him, because there was no doubt he would. He cared, he did what he had to do, but he was human. She was scared of what this would do to him and Vera. And to her, but she might not get to mourn. Even though she felt like the pain might rip her apart, she had a task, one to focus on and keep her mind occupied with.

“No. I don’t expect you to be anything, Marcus. I don’t expect anything at all.” Aurora placed her hand on her stomach, resting upon where the baby moved ever so gently, barely noticeable. From her perspective it was the truth: She expected nothing. She had missed him. She told him now. He knew now that this was his child, what he wanted to do with that information was entirely up to him. He was free of any burden that came with it, but he was also free to chose to step up to the role. He could have it either way and now he had all the time in the world to decide what his way would be. There were only a few more things left to say. Aurora smiled sadly at him. She reached out, but stopped herself before touching him. That was no longer her place to do.
“It wasn’t easy, Marcus. I had other things to worry about than telling you. I was pregnant with an illegal child. You know the rules. You know what choices I had. Kill the baby, have it in secret and risk being floated or make it legal. I felt like I had no other choice, Marcus. I wanted to tell you. When you broke up with me. But a broken heart is not a good adviser, as you know. Neither is my stubbornness.” And pregnancy hormones weren’t a good adviser either. Maybe she was just naive back then or idealistic, but that shattered now. “I didn’t want to tie you to me through this baby, Marcus. You’re not tied to me or obligated to the child in any form. You chose what you want at your time.” That was all she could say to him. He had to chose at his own time. He got to chose at his own time now. Aurora took a step back, preparing mentally to leave him alone to his thoughts, which were so clearly conflicted - not that she could blame him. She knew she'd be just as conflicted and pissed if she was in his position.

It was a rare night to be alone-ish. Octavia was sound asleep, claiming one of the beds entirely, it seemed, at least for the moment, Bellamy was still at work as a guard cadet and it might be a while until he came home – or he might get to finish early, after all he basically had the talent to be a guard in his genes, without his own knowledge. Tonight was one of those nights where Aurora could allow herself to dwell in memories a bit, in her longing. She had one thing recorded. As their portable was not really good for storing a lot and most of it was for the kids, she had dared to record a speech, had hoped neither Octavia nor Bellamy would discover it. So far she was successful.
Aurora had settle in a chair, an old blanket wrapped around her and the little screen propped up against her sewing box. It was the second time she replayed the speech. She never even really listened to what Marcus Kane was saying. She watched him more than listening, while, yes, his voice brought her some level of peace, it was his mannerisms that changed the least. He was all business, but he was still himself. Aurora paused the grainy image when he just smiled for a split second. If only she could actually trace his smile again, but that was entirely impossible now. There was no way she could ever allow anything to happen between them again. She had Octavia to think about and his own life. Their love story was over for good. Deciding to have her daughter came with that price, yet she couldn’t bring herself to regret it.

Aurora stepped back on instinct, not because she feared him harming her. She had lost that fear years ago, at least with other men. With him she never had it to begin with. He might be physically stronger than her, but he was not the kind of man to use his physical strength on people, not without a real reason. This was no real reason for him, despite rightfully being angry. As her back hit the wall, there still was no fear in her eyes, not of that. If he wanted to end her life, he didn’t have to lash out. All he had to do was tell about her daughter and she’d be disposed of. Now that was a possibility given his position, but she would have to wait and see. Aurora placed her hand on his chest, a once familiar gesture she did in a very different context: Love for the man, love she still held for him, though it felt like a very distant dream right now.
“You make it sound so easy, Marcus. Things aren’t just black and white. If they were, then yes, that’s what I did. I did a lot of this for you.” The mother told him, her face determined. He’d listen to the truth now, to her truth. While she understood where he came from, she had a different perspective on things. “I did not apply for a permit out of a sudden mood to want to have a baby. I was already pregnant when I applied for it, pregnant with your child. I didn’t want to force you into a quick decision about this, Marcus. I didn’t want to risk our lives, so I approached my friend. He signed it, he basically saved my life with this. You know the rules. You know what I should have done. There was no way I was killing my baby. Our baby. Our son! You know we would have had to either kill the kid or be floated for having it, had you agreed or not. I wanted you to be able to think things through, to take all the time you might need in order to commit to it or not. I did want to tell you, unfortunately you broke up with me when I wanted to do so.” Aurora sighed. She could have told him of the pregnancy back then, but it would have looked very different then, like something she would use to tie him to her. She didn’t want that. She wanted him to stay for her, because he wanted to, not because he felt obligated. “I was stubborn, which shouldn’t come as a surprise to you. I wanted to tell you. I never found the words. I never…I chocked on those words quite often. And then I got pregnant again. Now there was no way I could tell you of our daughter. I didn’t want to… endanger your life. I'll take your name to the grave with me.”

In many ways she had not expected to hear the door open. In many ways she expected Bellamy to deliver the message and for the Kanes to honor it at least for a while, to give her space to think about things and she had implied she would leave. She had toyed with the idea, but couldn’t. Initially she just wanted out. She felt like she could not get through this, like there was no way she could pick up the pieces after. No matter how she thought things through, there was no way to fix things for her. She couldn’t do this. She didn’t know how she was supposed to hold this family together if Bellamy was no more, if his death would be on all of them, some more than others. It looked like Marcus was here. He called out for her, but didn’t go into the bedroom. Of course, the lights were off, how was he to guess that’s where she would be?
Aurora got up. She walked to the door. Her arms were still around her, tears were still streaming down her face, as she whispered his name. “Marcus.” The woman debated whether or not she should go up to him and hug him or not, but as she debated it, she knew she would not move forward. She didn’t know how he was, how he would react. She didn’t want to overwhelm him, while she craved his strong arms around her. She wanted to be strong for the family, but she didn’t know how right then. She feared losing the two men she loved and she felt so helpless being unable to stop it. It was that which made her so incapable of dealing right then.

Even after several years of marriage, after raising a son, the ease with which the touches came these days was thrilling and comforting to Aurora. She still loved him as if it was the first day. Alone, without their family around, she found they could still make out like teenagers, so in many ways she could understand why Bellamy came in here messed up like that, but this was family dinner. His grandmother was there. Even they cleaned up to be presentable before Vera and with them Vera had obvious evidence of them sleeping together. Bellamy was walking talking evidence of their nocturnal activities. At least they were presentable.
“No. We handled everything. Just sit down and enjoy the meal.” With that she gently pushed at her husbands back, to give him a rather clear sign that there really was nothing to do anymore. The two women had taken proper care of everything. Aurora, though laughed as her son asked about their day. “Apparently not as eventful as yours. Who is she? Or…. He?” Really she didn’t care if he was into males or females, though in this special case, she wanted to tease him. The mother pulled out her mother in laws chair before finally taking a seat as well. “Though I wouldn’t be against having an eventful afternoon like that.” While she saw Vera grin at that, she couldn’t wait to see her husbands and sons reaction at it. Octavia was her sunshine. At this age she was easy to handle. As long as they passed off hiding her as a game, she was almost eager to play and in turn she was almost always up for the solution. Today was to be an easy day, though. There was no surprise inspection, the toddler could play outside and not fear having to hide in the floor. Aurora could work on her actual work today, getting clothing fixed and changing sizes for people. It was actually quite the good day in her eyes and nothing indicated she might be faced with something going wrong, if ever so slightly. Not even her sons return changed that initially.
It was his words that had her slightly worried. He said hi to his sister as usual, but then admitted to having done something, something to help them. What could a young boy like him have possibly done to help them? Well maybe it was in his own way, which she was more than willing to honor. But things could be dangerous and he was just a kid. Kids made mistakes and that was good, they learned from it. As Aurora saw the package of meal, she knew what he had done. She felt the fear and disappointment in her, but she needed him to admit to it. “Bellamy, what have you done? What is this?”

When Aurora gave upon her job as guard, she had expected to no longer feel as exhausted after a day as she did now, but things had changed. It was the price she paid for having children, one that she paid gladly. She loved her kids, she only wanted the best for them, which included trying to be there for her daughter, her illegal child, and ensuring her son got his best chance at a career and everything no wonder she felt exhausted. She did a lot, her day was filled with work of some sort. At this moment Aurora sat in a chair in the house. She had a shirt on her lap, yet she was not working on it. Her naked feet were resting on one of the beds. She just looked ahead, allowing herself to be slow and rest for just a moment, before she had to pick up the work again.
That was how her son came in. One look gave it away that something or someone was troubling him. Aurora placed the shirt down and got up. She walked across the hall, silent as to not disturb the sleeping girl in the apartment. She felt like he might want to speak closely with her. “What is it, Bellamy?” She asked, reaching out to touch his shoulder, hopefully prompting him to open up, if he wanted to. He could tell her anything, probably should, too. It was how this worked, they were open with each other, or as open as possible. There were activities, that she did not want to be open about with her children, even though she felt like they knew anyway.

“Fear is a demon, yes.” It was a demon especially when she feared for him, for Marcus, it was a demon, because it made her weak, but in the end there was the good kind of fear, worry, that allowed her to care for the two people she cared for the most. And she feared for them every day, but she never let it rule her, never let it bring her to her knees or make her useless because she couldn’t function anymore. She lived with it, fought it in order to be the best mother and wife she could be for them, maybe it was part of being a good mother and wife, but all that didn’t matter. Right now the fear was overwhelming, no matter how hard she tried not to let it rule her. Right now she was allowed to be afraid.
“Sadly, Bellamy, that’s a fear I will have to live with.” She move her hands down to take his. He would not back down from his plan and she feared for her husband more than anything. He might try to remain strong, he might succeed, but in the end, Aurora knew they would not go out of it without wounds to their hearts. His wounds were more important to her than her own. “I’ll always fear for you and your father. That is one fear that I will never be able to shake.” She looked at him again. She was fearing of him already, but at the same time she questioned if this was part of why he chose it? He was scared and he was strong enough to beat the most essential fear a human could have: The fear of death itself. It was impressive in the end. Aurora pulled him into another hug. “My brave boy.” They would forever miss him, there was no recovering from this, but she had to recognize some form of bravery in his decision. “I brought something, for you.”

Aurora had expected anger of course. She knew him well enough to expect that, just as he knew her well enough to anticipate her reaction to things under normal circumstances. Normal circumstances did not include a baby growing in her and her instincts being on overdrive. He got her by surprise when he grabbed her arm to maneuver her inside. He apparently did not want to take care of this in the hall, not that she could blame him in his position. His career really had taken off. A relationship that would be frowned upon if not forbidden would not have allowed for that. The thought alone hurt. It had made for a wonderful dilemma in her life, but she could not regret the little one that came out of it. The baby was perhaps the best thing that ever happened to her, even though in some day it was just so damn hard, even harder to keep her instincts and moods in check. She failed this day, spectacularly. Usually it was just enough to stay, to keep working.
Now, though, she felt herself tremble with emotion that she couldn’t identify, while she visibly deflated as he told her what he thought. He thought she slept with… he really thought she could move on that fast, like he could let go of this. She was nowhere near moved on. “You really think that? You really think I slept with him? You really think…” He did. Otherwise he wouldn’t have said that. He really thought she was cold enough and distanced enough to jump into bed with someone else. Aurora wrapped her arms around her middle, out of instinct, as if to protect the baby. She turned away, unable to even look at him then. It felt like a knife to her heart. “I … never… once even considered sleeping with him, Marcus. I…” She was at a loss of words, yet she knew she had to say something. She had to explain why she was here, even though she had no idea why she was. Somehow she had to put this all into words. She took a moment to just breathe to gather herself. “He's infertile. He can’t even have kids, but with his relationships and mine we could get this permit threw fast. His name is on the permit, not because he’s the biological father, but because I was already pregnant.” There it was then, part of the truth. Knowing Marcus was a smart guy, she suspected by now he would have an idea. “I was already pregnant, but the father of my child left me for his career. For his career. I had to get a permit or have it killed, no way I would let them kill my baby. I want that kid, with or without father. So I got the permit. So I quit my job for a safer kid friendlier option. I came here because I missed you – I… I don’t even know anymore.”

Have faith in Marcus, of course she did, but things were changing. If he wanted her to have faith in him, believe in him, how could he do this to him? His father was on the council. His father had seen this as a solution and pushed for it, wanting to save people. His father was only human, too. His father… Aurora knew him, he wasn’t made of stone, he was caring, he wanted peace and prosperity for his people, just like Bellamy, but she couldn’t see how Marcus should ever recover from this, how she should do this. She couldn’t see him making it out of this unscathed. In the end, she felt like he would feel like he killed his son. Bellamy would put his life on his father’s conscience. Where was that fair? Aurora didn’t know what to do about it. She felt helpless. She was helpless. She couldn’t save Bellamy, because he wouldn’t let her. And she couldn’t protect her husband from that. She couldn’t protect any of them and it broke her heart. All those years and she could neither protect her son, nor her husband.
“Bellamy…” Aurora began. He was still saying all of that, but what hope was there for them? To go to the Ground, that was it. But how? There was simply no way for everyone, so what was the point in this now? It was so very pointless and there was nothing she could do. If it wasn’t for Marcus, she would go in there with him. If it wasn’t for her not wanting him to suffer from both their ends, she would leave this world with her son, but she couldn’t abandon her husband, not through this. She wanted to tell him, but she couldn’t. It was still Veras words, that warned her of it. Instead she said something from deep within. “I’m scared.”

Breathing was hard recently, ever since Unity Day. It had gotten cold, Aurora could see her own breath, as it turned into white fog before her eyes due to the cold. She didn’t have a lot in her hiding space, but at least she had pillows and blankets enough to protect her from the cold as apparently Marcus might have anticipated something like that. Aurora cocooned herself in, a pillow on her very pregnant belly hopefully keeping the place safe, where their newest family member grew in secret. Aurora couldn’t tell how much time passed since she felt shockwaves after unity day, since the last time Marcus came to see her, she had no idea what happened, but given how heating had failed for a while and how hard it was to draw a deep lungful of air, she could tell something bad was about to happen or already happened. The extent was unknown to her, but she knew she suffered from lack of oxygen. She knew it when she saw people, who weren’t on the ship anymore, Octavia, Bellamy, but not Marcus. Marcus should be here.
Despite feeling that time was running out, Auroras main focus remained on the unborn. It gave her something to fight for, to hold onto life for. So she rationed what food and water she had, she tried to hold on as much as she could, for the child, her third child, despite the rules. Everything would be so different on Earth, not that she honestly expected to ever see it. She was trapped in here, only still alive because of Marcus. Marcus. Where was he? Had he been hurt? Aurora worried. More than once she heaved herself up, considering to go search for him, giving up her hiding place, but then she couldn’t, he could handle himself, but the unborn couldn’t. Only when the entrance opened, did she move again after what felt like days. She looked up, finding a person stand there, light filtering through. “Marcus?” She asked softly, hoping for her love, fearing for the worst.
