@doctorgriffin Aurora had just brough her son to school. Her times doing that increased, knowing it was limited now. She couldn't do it forever, not with the life changing and life threatening decision she made. She wanted to make those little moments count. And with that, she went to enjoy another little moment. Aurora knew she had to pull back from society on the Ark. Staying there would be dangerous in the end. But for now, she knew wanted to enjoy every morning until she could no longer hide the second child she was sure she was expecting. The room was big, usually used of assemblys, but at the moment there were chairs. A few trades - legal - were going on. Some sat at tables reading, some kids sat in the corner, playing. Aurora saw someone very familiar sitting at one of the tables.
With a smile she made her way where doctor Griffin sat. They had come into contact when Aurora had changed professions. As a seamstress she did work for medical, too, fixing blankets and clothes the best way she could. Maybe, at one point, she could have met her as a guards cadet, when she used to be. Aurora sat down, without asking - she was factory station, the lack of formalities was a bit of a perk. "Hows little Clarke?" She asked the doctor, knowing that her child was far younger than her Bellamy. It was a great time in a kids life. She'd experience it again, if she wasn't caught. "And your handsome husband?"

Of course it didn't leave Aurora cold. Her daughter had so much fun. It was something she always wished for Octavia. It was something she could never really give her. And even this, this was too risky. It made her think again, think about what she had done, doomed both her children and herself. Maybe it would have been better if she had just let it happen, but she loved her daughter so much. Still, was the price really worth it? She wanted her children to be happy, but that was next to impossible. In all of this, one thing stood: They scared her! They had put her into an impossible situation, that was worse than fearing being floated. She didn't know where her kids were and that made her helpless. She was still mad and part of her wanted to act on it. The other part decided against it.
"Do you know what you put me through? I was worried!" And that was the harsh truth. "Both kids gone. But worse: I couldn't even go search for you! I can't go out and search for you, Octavia, because the Ark doesn't know you exist." And it wasn't supposed to know. It would be their deaths. "You could have at least said something." And she would have tried to stop them, but at least she would have known what to expect. "And Bellamy... you being a cadet... I thought you knew better than to go without a word."

"Good idea." Aurora managed to say before his lips were on hers again, threatening to take all thoughts away once more. But then again why did she need them? She could trust him. She could always trust him. For more than one reason, but a very specific one: Who would he tell? It might easily ruin his career as well as hers, but somehow, she couldn't care less. A career was something that was material. Him as a friend was immaterial, she could never get that again, because there was only one Marcus Kane in the world and that Marcus Kane was kissing her. Aurora leaned back, her hands on his neck, pulling him gently with her, though not too far.
Eventually she pulled away again, why was air a thing these days? Aurora sighed softly, contently. "I think I need another one." She whispered. Aurora pointed to her shoulder, daring even, but this was a moment, they really had a moment. "It hurts here." It didn't hurt there at all and she guessed Marcus knew that very well. They didn't need to care. This was about them and would be about them. She cared for him. If it was too much, she'd stop. She'd protect him, take this sweet secret to her grave, if needs be. "I think you really need to kiss it better."

Even if someone asked her, there was no way for Aurora to name when it happened or even what happened. One moment everything was exactly the way she remembered it, them being friends, her maybe having a bit of inappropriate feelings towards him, nothing out of the ordinary, so she had no idea where exactly this came from. She had no idea why a simple touch, done often even in passing - him brushing her hair out of her face - was so different now. Aurora couldn't name why everything seemed to stop, why his fingers were sending little shockwaves through her entire body, small, but precious, making her heart flutter in an unknown way. She anticipated a question, a way to keep the conversation up, but something else entirely happened. To Auroras surprise he didn't ask a question.
Without any way for her to know what was going on, he closed the distance between them, kissing her. IT shocked her for a moment, had her stop and try to gather herself because she did not expect that. At the same time the mood fit. Aurora caught herself soon, responding to the kiss. She had thought about it, dreamed about it before and maybe this was a dream, because wasn't this too good to be reality? Her friend and superior kissing her, even though it was technically forbidden? But her lips were sealed. She'd never tell a soul, especially since this would get him into trouble more than her. She kissed him back, softly, not too demanding, because it still felt too good to be true, until air really became and issue and she had to pull back to breathe. Maybe her breath was shorter due to the bruises, but Aurora couldn't care less. It gave her the chance to look at him, to see if there was any regret in his eyes, if he felt bad about this in any way and she hoped to find nothing and she did. She thought to find no regret in his eyes.
"You really know how to kiss it better." She whispered, hoping not to break the moment.

It had shocked Aurora to no end, that she was once more pregnant, but what was she supposed to do? What was she supposed to tell people? She couldn’t get rid of an unborn child. But as the time passed it got more and more dangerous. There was no way. Aurora changed everything about her routine. While Bell still went to school, she had time to work on a solution. She could work from home full time. Usually she went around to collect her projects, but that was out of the question now. She could not do that when she grew big. She had to have fabric cover her growing stomach. And it was growing. Every day without fail. Usually she would give Bellamy parts of her rations, so hed grow strong. But with a baby, she needed it, so his sibling would grow.
Aurora was getting her cover ready, making sure she had plenty of fabric to cover her, when she heard the knock. She quickly threw a robe on – she had to endure the smell, otherwise she would not have gotten it. It was her friend. For a moment she froze. He’d know something is wrong. He’d see it in her face immediately. But not opening would be worse. She could trust him, right? She usually could. Well she had to now. Aurora opened the door, but made sure it still didn’t show her. Looking to him from behind the door, she smiled. “Hey Leo. How are you?”

Things changed at one point and Aurora couldn’t tell what it was. She was living with people and then all of a sudden they pronounced her skaikru, which was something she could hardly identify with. She had left the Ark, had intended to commit suicide by earth only to survive it. She had included herself with people of a Clan only to have them turn on her all of a sudden. They caught and sold her. Well it was more of a trade, but since then she was the possession of someone. He was kind on some rare days, treating her almost like a beloved instead of a slave, but on others he was brutal. She took it without complaint. She was used to worse. Usually she did it for something she knew: For his child. Niylah was a gem. She cared for people and deserved so much better even though they never got to talk due to her father. But Aurora saw it in her.
Things escalated with the mentions of skaikru kids and a huge fireball and more skaikru. Aurora begged to be let out to see them, see if her family was fine. She prayed for it. Her little girl, Bellamy, if the Ark was on the ground, there was hope for her loved ones. Octavia might even be allowed to live, she prayed for it. Well her master got furious, beat her up and chained her up, but for some reason he still left. There was hope in her that he would bring back news of the Ark and maybe of her kids. Aurora twisted wool in her hands when Niylah came in. She looked up at the precious girl and smiled. “I will be fine. Nothing time can’t heal.” Except for the chain around her foot, but he’d surely take that off again. “How are you? Do you need anything? I could make you something to eat.”

Aurora smiled softly. His care was sweet and she was not used to it. It wasn’t like he didn’t care, but usually when they spent time together they didn’t have to patch the other up. That was new and it showed this softer side of Marcus wonderfully. She had known it was there, she had seen shades of it, but the way he brushed her hair behind her ear, the way he examined her so gently, that was a side she could add to those she already admired of him. And then there was him telling her he considered her one of his best friends. It worked both ways. She cared deeply about Marcus. She wanted the best for him. "You're one of my best friends, too."
Aurora placed both hands on his arms, gently running them up and down as if she was trying to comfort him, but for what? She had no idea. Auroras smile at his question was more than gentle, it was soft. She was generally soft, not the woman strong against a male dominated domain, but just a woman, his friend, soft, because she trusted him and genuinely cared for him. “My ribs. I think they’re a bit bruised.” They would hurt a lot more if they were broken. “My hip as well.” It was in areas where skin was close over bone, areas prone to getting very colorful bruises. “At least I hope it’s just bruises.”

The pause felt like ages. Seconds felt like long minutes, minutes felt like hours in this silence. What she just told Marcus was hard for her. Neither of them had planned this. Their relationship was not an open one, but they might need to put it out in the open, that was if he was willing to do this with her. There was no way she could force him to do it, not for herself, she loved him too much to force him into a situation like that. She needed to tell him, needed him and herself to have a way out, but she would never force him into this. They never discussed having a child. They never planned on this, so of course he was shocked. Of course he had to process what she said first. She couldn’t blame him. Aurora had time to process it before. If it wasn’t as important to move fast, she would have given herself and him more time, but it was impossible at the moment.
Aurora was only partially surprised when he stepped closer and hugger her to him. With a sigh the woman wrapped her arms around him in return. His warmth, his scent, his strength immediately brought comfort to her, her heart rate going down a little. A hug was certainly not the worst sign. They still had a lot to discuss, but for the moment she could hold him close and cling to the sensation of just them for a moment, until she had to answer the question. Aurora only pulled away far enough to look him in the eyes. She nodded. “As sure as I can get. I can’t exactly go to medical being pregnant without a permit.” They would terminate the pregnancy immediately and she didn’t want that. It was an innocent child, why should it be punished for mistakes Aurora and the medical devices made?
“I wasn’t feeling good recently.” He probably noticed that, too. She sometimes even zoned out when they spent time together or fell asleep on him. At first she thought she was getting sick, it was not unlikely, especially given that she had to interact with people on a daily basis. It was a friend, that joked about pregnancy. And then she thought back. She took matters into her own hands then, having to make sure of it to her full abilities. “There’s a woman with a permit, she’s a friend. She got me those little tests. They were positive. So unless symptoms and the test fail, I’m pregnant.” She wanted to say something, but the right words failed her. What was she meant to say, really? “I’m most likely pregnant with your child and right now our child is illegal. And we don't have a lot of time to decide what to do.” She wished she could give them more time, but it was impossible.

Aurora needed neutral ground, or relatively neutral ground for this. This was a big thing, not just for her. She had hope. She had to have hope, because there really was no other outcome. For a neutral ground Aurora had asked Vera Kane to be allowed into her apartment for a while. The woman was with the last tree anyway, so she could set up there. It was a huge thing, so they needed a place, which fulfilled multiple things: It needed to be familiar, but relatively neutral. It needed to be safe, but could not be either of their apartments. His mothers apartment might be a stretch, but it was the only thing she could imagine at that moment and her imagination was running pretty thin.
It was not every day that someone would set up an apartment like that. A date would look differently. A date would look like dimmed lights, dinner, maybe a nice drink. Tonight the lights were on as bright as usually. Tonight there was no dinner or drinks on the table, there was a paper on the table, a sheet of paper that could change Marcus life or not. She had an idea for a backup, but she didn’t want a backup. Aurora wanted this.
Vera was still in the room with her as she set it up. She saw the paper, she saw the worry in Aurora, the nerves and sat her down.
“Do you want to remove your implant to have a child with Marcus or is this more urgent?” Vera asked Aurora as she sat in front of Aurora, clasping her hands. Her face was open, showing so much compassion for the young woman, who was clearly troubled. It was as if she had a knowledge of the urgency there, as if she could just tell. It was only in here that she allowed herself to feel the pressure on her.
“It’s more urgent. I’m already…” She didn’t want to say it, not yet. It would be hard enough to tell Marcus. It would be hard enough to stand in front of the man she loved and tell him that by some accident her implant had failed and what was meant to be nights of passion turned out to be so much more complicated.
“Don’t worry, child.” Vera said. She smiled a very knowing smile at her, showing of so much confidence for her son. “Marcus and I have differences, but I’ve raised him. He was a good boy. And he is a good man at heart. He’s not the type of man to abandon a child. Have confidence in him.” She did. She had confidence in him as a person, as a guard, as a friend and lover. But this was huge to both of them. It was emotionally challenging. Not just for her. It would be for him, too. Either way their life was about to change forever. And Aurora would be the last one to tie him down to it. He had a way out, but she wished, to every power that would listen, that he would choose to do this with her, because she wanted him and only him. She wanted this to be their journey together and not the end of their story. With a squeeze of her hand, Vera got up to leave only moments before her son entered.
Aurora couldn’t see his face, but she didn’t see any hesitation as he walked her. She didn’t feel any hesitation as she felt him kiss her forehead, as his hands held her cheeks. She could imagine his worried look. And just by that she found herself panicking a little, knowing she could loose him.
“I’m pregnant.” She blurted out.

Aurora nodded. She heard what he said. Having had family that has been around from the beginning, she knew of several bad endings of a guard needing to but in into things. She had heard of riots, especially in those stations that were known to be less privileged than others, sometimes ending with several people in medical, several dead and in the end several people getting floated for starting it all. She didn’t want to let any of that happen, but she knew as just one guard she stood no chance. “The shock batons sound harsh, but I know what you mean. There have been some… horrible things that happened before. Hand to hand won’t do much good in situations like that.”
She wondered if something like that happened when Kane was around. Had he experiences with that? “Did something like that happen to you?” She asked him, curiosity getting the better of her, then again at the same time, second hand experiences helped better than not knowing any of that at all. “I mean, not only where they fought back, I know that happens a lot, but where they came close to actually overpowering the guards. I know adrenaline can unleash some impressive powers in people. And then people get hurt.” And that meant it was not far off to think that someone could overpower a guard. They had to protect the citizens, but people could get hurt. It was their job not to let it happen, but sometimes it was unavoidable.

Aurora watched him as he looked at her ankle. For some reason his touches left her skin tingling, but she didn’t know what this could possibly mean. She felt safe as he wrapped her ankle up and placed an ice pack in it, securing it. Apparently it was not bad, otherwise he would have mentioned it. A bit of rest was probably would do the trick, though there was no way she would get that. She had to go back right the next day unless she wasn’t cleared. She would be cleared, though. She wanted to be cleared. This was what she wanted.
As Aurora listened to him speak about how he didn’t like watching someone get beaten up, especially not a friend, she felt something inside her flutter. She knew they were friends, but he was always very capable of not letting this touch his work. Just this once, though, his worry won apparently and it was adorable. She reached down to place her hand on his shoulder, now they were just Marcus and Aurora, just two friends, so she gently rubbed the junction between his neck and shoulder with her thumb. “Thank you for not stopping it.” It was in his power and she guessed he would have, had it gotten too extreme, not because they were friends, of course. “Thank you for coming here, Marcus. It means a lot to me, that you care.” And she cared, too. The few instances she had seen him fight, she had felt nervous, she had felt the dread of what would happen if something happened to him. He was her friend, one of her closest friends, actually.

The people were more than files, she agreed. Files held data, hard facts. He could see when she was born, where, who her parents were, who her grandmother was, her blood type, medical history, but no file in the world would ever contain the fact that her grandmother doted on her. No file in the world held the stories her grandmother told her at night, the pictures she painted with her words. So yes, she was more than her file. And it was great to know that Kane did not reduce his cadets to the files. It already set him apart from others. But what he said after that, did so much more.
The types of guards were accurate, as far as she could tell, though some of them were more sad than others. It really made her think. What type was she? And what type did she want to be? She wanted to protect, but she also wanted a family in the future. There was just nobody she could imagine having a family with yet and since her actual family was no more, she had a lot of time to put into her training. She was perhaps a bit of a mixture between type two and three, but she’d prefer to be a two. She wanted this personal life, she just didn’t have one at the moment.
“Somewhere between two and three. I’m currently very focused on the job. I don’t have a family. I do meet some friends sometimes, but training comes first for me. I would like to have a family in the future, but right now that’s not in the cards for me, so all my energy goes into training… which almost sounds sad, but I like it. I like to be able to focus on learning and to learn. Thank you again, for showing me those moves.”

“Thanks.” She did well. Aurora smiled with pride at that. It wasn’t often that she heard this. She did well and stupid at the same time, because she was way too stubborn for her own good there. But she couldn’t just give up. She did pay the price for that and would continue to do so. Tomorrow would be brutal given how sore she was probably going to be, all because she just couldn’t give up. Aurora also grinned at his laugh, though. She loved to hear it. He was too serious at work, granted she knew it was necessary, but she liked him allowing himself to be a bit less serious. She liked the friendship they had. He managed to limit it to outside of the training, which was impressive and something she wanted to learn, too. It was important to keep private life and working life separate. In her working life he was supervising officer Kane. In her private life he was just Marcus, her friend.
Aurora did as he told her to, climbing onto the table. She placed both feet onto the chair, even though he only spoke of one. She knew it was easier to see how swollen a foot was when the other was there to compare. Aurora could see it was not too swollen just by placing her feet on the chair, but the bruise that seemed to form there looked like it would get pretty damn colorful. She still smiled at Marcus. “I guess it could have been worse… or not. You looked very concentrated back there, Marcus. You really didn’t like to see us get beaten up, did you?”

It’s been roughly a year since Aurora Blake had dared to take an almost desperate step. She was about to be floated. In a moment she could not even fully recall anymore, she took one of those small cargo pods and made her way to earth. They were thought to be unable to make the journey, sure to be burned up in the atmosphere, but even that sounded more appealing to her as it meant she had control over what was happening to her. And she liked control over what was happening. She wanted the choice of her death. Death never came. She was injured, but she healed. And she survived. She hunted and adapted and eventually found a place for herself in a small trading village close to the border of Azgeda. She learned Trigedasleng there, got clothes, food and a purpose. Helping to keep the village running was wonderful. And at night she would look up, hoping her kids would be okay, hoping those she cared about would be okay.
She missed the dropship, but she heard of sky people. Aurora couldn’t leave yet, but the moment she saw the Ark – the entire huge Ark – come crashing down, she knew she had to leave. The mother packed up her belongings and left towards where she suspected the Ark. She found people before she could the place. For the first days, she watched them from a distance, trying to assess the situation, trying to see her children, but she found Marcus, her ex. She followed him silently, trying to muster up the courage to show herself. The decision was taken out of her hand when she heard it, felt it, the change in the area, a familiar threat coming straight at them, probably.
“Marcus!” Aurora called out, blade raised as she approached the Arkers and especially Marucs. She needed to get them to move, otherwise their blood would color the forest soon.

Aurora nodded, loving every moment with their new family. Marcus was great with Bellamy. The crying baby stilled for a moment when his father kissed his head. She wasn’t sure if it was because little Bellamy was surprised or not used to it or just enjoying his Dads affection. She wanted to believe the later. Their bond would only grow. “Okay.” She carried Bellamy with her to the couch where she let the baby nurse. He seemed strong. He drank eagerly and for quite some time and that was apparently a good thing. She burped and changed him after that. Holding him, it took only a few moments for the newborn to go straight back to sleep. Aurora placed him carefully back into his bed, to join Marcus.
“He’s asleep again. Fed and changed him and then he was out like a little light.” It was adorable. One tiny yawn later and her babies breathing had evened out and she let him sleep. Aurora moved to her husband. “Thank you, for doing this, Marcus.” She started. She knew he wanted to help, he always had expressed this desire, but she had the perfect job to take care of the household and then when he worked as well, allowed him to have time for their son when he got home. “What did you make?”
