Someone who just gave up? Raven flinched at the words. No she wasn’t someone who just gave up. But since arriving it seemed like the ground was trying its damn well hardest to push her to do just that. Like every day she had to fight just to survive. What sort of life was that? She’d lulled herself into a false sense of security when they’d expanded Camp Jaha into Arkadia with relative peace for a while…they all had. There was no such thing as safe. No such thing as secure.
But then that’s why they needed her. Raven and her weapons…Because even though there was more of them than us and it was likely those grounders would eventually just kill them all. Raven wanted to make sure she took a piece of them with her. Perhaps Nina was right. Maybe she shouldn’t give up so easily. Of course…she’d never admit that out loud to her. So with a loud and deliberate sigh Raven reluctantly reopened her bag and held the broken remote in her hand, slowly lowering her body down to sit on the rock she’d almost broken her foot on. “Fine…”
Some of the exposed wire caught her eye. Maybe if she just changed their arrangement, fiddled with the circuitry to adjust the wavelength…this wouldn’t have to be such a lost cause. “You just gonna stand there all day, here take this,” she asked…or well told Nina, offering her the bag. The poorly hidden hint of a smile on her face however showing the obvious change in subject and her demeanor. Raven wanted to get past that moment of vulnerability and get back down to business. “Careful with that,” she added as a gentle tease. “Got all sorts of dangerous toys in there.” With that, she poured all her concentration into fixing the remote, taking a small pair of tweezers out of her jacket pocket. Always be prepared…
“Okay I’m only gonna try this one more time…” she said, finally getting up after hopefully fixing the remote. “Take cover…” she said taking a few more steps back before crouching, though Raven couldn’t really keep her eyes off the small mound in the middle of the field.
3…2…1...“Here goes,”
….With a push of a button the bomb almost immediately exploded. The force of it knocking her back a bit. But it was noise she revelled in…that ‘BOOM!’. It was just as satisfying as she’d hoped it would be. “Now THAT is what I call an explosion.” She yelled, standing up. Her expression was one of arrogance, but Raven didn’t care…for that tiny moment, nothing could wipe that smug grin off her face.

Used to it? She didn’t know an awful lot about Jasper’s personal life or who his bed mates might be but she supposed he meant it figuratively. God knows the world had kicked and beat him to the ground more times than she could count…just as long as he got up afterwards. And there was no shame in Raven helping him do that starting from today. Tonight was the first night of his recovery or perhaps even their recovery. She probably shouldn't be too optimistic about that though.
Nightmares. Now that was something Raven was definitely familiar with. The normal matter of fact way he just mentioned them caught her off guard for a moment. But they’d shared so much in the time they’d spent together today that she should be used to it by now. “It’s a deal,” she said with a smile. Before finally laying down next to him, her head settling on his arm. Okay then…this wasn’t exactly how she’d expected this night to go, with her huddled up next to Jasper Jordan. But it wasn’t exactly the biggest surprise of the night, she thought darkly and internally shuddered. It had been so long since she’d shared a bed with anyone, the close contact was going to take her a while to get used to. She shuffled for a while against him before finally deciding to lay her arm slowly across his chest. When Raven finally stopped moving, finding an at least physically comfortable position she became acutely aware of ever part of her body that was in contact with his. It’s fine…she wasn’t the one in need of rest tonight anyway. “This okay?” She eventually brought herself to ask.

Oh he was good…she’d give him that. Every word he said, calm and collected despite the harshness behind some of them. Must be a hell of a psychiatrist. Either that or the doctor was a complete sociopath…The latter outcome wouldn’t surprise her too much, she thought wryly. Raven visibly paused for a few moments after he finished speaking, really weighing the options he was giving her. Now she could be stubborn as hell, but she wasn’t stupid. Everything he said was true, she did need him to do this so she could leave…he just didn’t have to look so damn happy about it. “Fine…” she finally relented, doing this his way before sitting down in the seat opposite him. She fidgeted slightly, uncomfortable under his piercing gaze.
Raven hoped the “session” would be as short as possible. That he’d just ask the obligatory questions, and she’d answer them impeccably as he checked them off a list. Before leaving and forgetting this unnecessary part of her medical evaluation. A psych eval…really? Anyone could tell you Raven was mentally sound. “I’m an open book,” she said sarcastically with a small forced smile. Inviting him to do his worst. She wasn’t sure exactly to expect though, which unnerved her slightly. The doctor had already surprised her by convincing her to even sit down, something she’d specifically intended not to do. Because this feeling she got, sitting across from him on the other side of his desk that had her on the defensive, was exactly what she’d wanted to avoid. He was proving himself to be a force to be reckoned with. But then…he’d never met Raven Reyes.

She watched him just sit there, a smile on his face and his hand unmoving. As in…he wasn’t signing the damn form. Great. His penetrating gaze made her uncomfortable, like he could see straight through her down to her very core. As he spoke, Raven’s expression changed almost immediately. Who did this guy think he was? She’d practically sailed through her physical, passed her exam with flying colours. This was supposed to be the easy part. She had plans to visit Finn after this though it was beginning to look like she might have to postpone that. Pfft…not likely. “I see what you’re doing there doc,” she began, with a sly smile of her own. “Twisting my words, analysing everything I say and do.” It wasn’t going to work. She didn’t need therapy. She needed him to sign the goddamn form.
As soon as he asked her to sit down, Raven folded her arms over her chest in blatant defiance. She wasn’t sure why exactly she was being difficult. She needed him. The ark wasn’t exactly crawling with psychiatrists and she didn’t want any hiccups on her way to becoming a Zero G mechanic. Perhaps it was something to do with his calm demeanour and that expression on his face like he knew her better than she did. It infuriated her. “Ooor we could skip the niceties and I can be on my way…if you just y’know sign the form.” The smile on her face now was far from genuine as she pointed at the line again. “Just there…in case you forgot.” The good doctor probably had some actual patients to take care of, so really Raven was just doing him a favour. It was a win win, she didn’t understand why he couldn’t grasp that.

Raven couldn’t help the arrogant grin plastered on her face. Each step she took had purpose as she walked…okay fine…strutted through the corridors of the ark. Because guess who just aced their Zero G mechanic exam. That’s right…this girl right here. She was so close to achieving her dream. She’d wanted this for so long, as long as she could remember and now that it was actually happening, Raven could hardly contain her joy. All she had left now was to get her psych eval done and she’d be one step closer to being the youngest Zero G mechanic in almost 52 years. Who else could say that?
All this medical evaluation crap was just that, complete crap. She knew she was mentally sound and Raven had no doubt that this Dr. Killian Crane, would definitely agree. She was going to be out of this prison and floating in space in no time. Just the thought of that weightlessness and freedom she’d dreamt of her whole life, had her walking just a little faster.
Without knocking, Raven entered the room that she assumed belonged to the guy who stood between her and her dream. “Hey doc.” Walking over to the desk without really looking up, she placed the form in her hand on top of whatever he was working on. It wasn’t important right now. “Sign here and I’ll be outta your hair,” she finally said, pointing at a dotted line at the bottom of the page that would ultimately mean she could get on with her life and leave the doctor alone to get on with his. “Thanks in advance,” she added, with a slight tone of impatience as she waited for him to sign his name….wasn’t exactly a difficult task.

A small smile graced her features when he nodded. That’s all she needed from him tonight. That small nod representing a silent promise that he’d at least try. Or well let her try, to convince him he still had a life to live with things to live for. All she needed was that chance and it seemed for now at least he was giving it to her. That they were in the clear for a night.
The crack in his voice as he spoke however, almost broke her damn heart. As if she could leave him now. Raven had been serious when she’d mentioned being around him all day every day if that’s what it took to save him from himself. And well, though she couldn’t even admit it to herself…Raven didn’t really want to be alone tonight either. Her eyes followed the few tears falling down Jaspers cheek as he continued. "I won't make it.” There they were… the words that finally did break her heart. But she had to appreciate his honesty with himself and his bravery for admitting that to her. That at least he knew he needed someone tonight and wouldn’t push her away. That perhaps Raven hadn’t just been projecting her own hopes when she’d thought there was a part of Jasper that wanted to live. Because that was the part talking now, telling her the truth about the extent of his pain. The part letting her in.
“Wouldn’t dream of it,” she answered genuinely. Raven slowly let go of his hand before taking her jacket off. “Now, lie down,” she continued, a hand gently pushing his chest, “I think we both need a little well deserved rest, don’t you?” She then reached down to take off her shoes and unclip and unfasten the brace from her leg and leave it leaning on the side of the bed. The routine familiar, though usually done without an audience. When she sat back up however, Raven paused. Now how exactly were they going to do this? The bed wasn’t big enough to provide them with any kind of personal or appropriate space. And she sure as hell wasn’t a cuddler. But this was Jasper and he needed her. And maybe she needed him too. So with that thought, and after a pause that felt like an eternity while realistically probably only lasting a few moments, Raven climbed further back onto the bed. Grabbing the bottle of moonshine first she placed it on the ground next to her brace, not quite lying down yet as she continued to try and figure out exactly how close Jasper wanted her to be. “I don’t snore, but I might kick,” she added with a smile to help lighten the mood.

His response confused her for a moment. Down? Until she remembered he hadn’t yet taken the key. Bryan was still in the dark, his mind still closed and corrupted by unnecessary pain and exhaustion but perhaps…Raven could be the one to show him the light. To lead him to the peace they would all soon share. “Getting me down?” she aked him. She just couldn’t imagine feeling down ever again. Her life suddenly had meaning now. A purpose. Part of this amazing gift A.L.I.E had given her. “I haven’t felt this great since…” she paused straining for a memory before her mind automatically got her to say, “Well I’ve just never felt this great.” Her tone was completely genuine, devoid of any sarcasm or wit. She was blissfully happy right down to her very core, and Raven had no reason to question it.
Tentatively she placed a hand on Bryans shoulder looking him directly in the eyes. “What if I told you, you could be this happy too?” A small smile spread across her face in anticipation of what his obvious answer would be. Who in their right mind would refuse? “That you and everyone you love would never feel pain again…just bliss.” Her eyes wandered away from his now, light in them as she once again appreciated her painless state. Once Bryan inevitably joined her, then perhaps Miller would too. And then the guards could follow. Soon enough everyone would share in this feeling. The thought brought Raven only peace.

Did you expect to survive your journey to Earth?
It was more like...I had to. Even just by sheer force of will, I had to get down there and find them alive for the people on the ark and...for Finn of course.

Raven wished more than anything that she could offer Jasper some better answers. Some solution that would take away all his pain. And not in an A.L.I.E. soul sucking kind of way. He didn’t deserve all the crap he’d been through. None of them did. But she didn’t know how exactly to help him. Not right now anyway. But dammit she’d figure it out. If it took the rest of her life, she’d find a way to help him. And maybe help herself in the process. At the mention of it she glanced at her brace. Raven could almost ignore the ugly thing now…almost.
She listened to him talk himself down, the man had a real knack for that…before hearing him question his usefulness. Now that…she did have an answer for. “That kid who knows chemistry saved our asses at the dropship when I couldn’t get those bullet to work…and that kid who gets into trouble saved my ass when I wasn’t even me anymore.” If he hadn’t been him… if he hadn’t taken any notice of her, she dreaded to think where or even who she’d be. “You’re plenty useful Jasper…don’t you ever doubt that.” She removed her hand from his bare chest and placed it in his own, squeezing it. “Just give me some time to show you that…to convince you that you’re not worthless.” To convince him that all that shit A.L.I.E had said using her body was wrong. “Please Jasper...and don’t just say okay to shut me up…I need you to mean it.” Her eyes met his as she spoke, looking for a genuine answer in them or any sign of a lie. Raven was rarely one to beg or plead…ever. But desperate times…

Watching him lean into her touch almost broke Raven’s heart. Her hand instinctively stroked down his cheek, no longer just wiping away the blood. The tears falling down his face just added fuel to the anger she already had burning within her for every other person in that cave. Or outside of it now that she’d kicked them out. And when the girl woke up she was going to be having words with Octavia that was for damn sure. There was no excuse. That was at least true for the others. Just standing there like this was somehow okay. Like they had an enemy in their midst and not Bellamy. Not the man who’d kept them all alive for how long now? ...He didn’t deserve this. She thought back to her grief. To her physical reaction to Clarke and wondered if she was being hypocritical for a moment. But no, Clarke had plunged a knife into Finn’s chest right in front of her. Bellamy…he’d been chained up here for god knows how long. And Raven had been none the wiser. It was Pike who pulled the trigger.
“You didn’t kill him Bellamy, there was nothing you could have done.” She knew the words were falling on deaf ears the moment she said them, but Raven had to try. “You were in chains for god’s sake,” she removed the hand on his face and lifted his own hands with her own to further emphasise her point. Her thumbs lightly brushed his red sore wrists as she continued. “If I’d known Bellamy I swear…” she looked away in shame. She’d been so preoccupied with her grief she’d completely ignored his own. Because the truth was…she was a coward. Facing him, with the risk of finding resentment or even hatred after letting Gena die in Mount Weather was too much for her. She hadn’t been strong enough to be there for him. And now…“I wouldn’t have let any of this happen.”

Dropping one wrist she steadied her breathing, taking hold of his other one to free it completely from the chains. The hot adrenaline of the rage she’d felt knocking Octavia out still coursing through her veins. She finally looked up at him at the sound of his voice. Only it didn’t sound like him, at least not the Bellamy she knew. “Oh? Well I just saved your ass.” After Gena, she’d selfishly avoided him and now this, it seemed, was the price she was paying for that. She should have been there for him before it got to this. Raven had failed him. “Is she okay?” she repeated the question back at him incredulously. “Are you?” She asked, almost accusing him. Because none of this made any sense to her. Not the chains, not the beating and definitely not his passive attitude with every blow.
You don’t chain up your own. Period. It was like she was the one who’d been knocked out and this was all some messed up dream or rather nightmare she was having. Only the blood on Bellamy’s face and the slow radiating pain coming from her wrist felt very real. Dropping the chains to the ground she shuffled closer to him, using her sleeve to wipe the blood off his face. “What the hell were you doing letting her beat the shit out of you?” Now she was definitely accusing him. Her eyebrows furrowed more out of concern now than anger. Damn, Octavia really did a number on him…That girl could really throw a punch.

Raven limped her way behind the others, making her way to some cave they’d mentioned outside of Arkadia. Her body tired and her leg aching from the journey. While she’d made a habit of staying out of the politics of this place and the apparent power struggle, she could no longer ignore it. Not after Lincoln’s execution. Bellamy was there apparently? And not in Arkadia, which was confusing, but everyone was in mourning so she didn’t press for more information. Octavia especially…was heartbroken. The kind of heartbroken you never recover from, but just learn to live with. Raven knew a little about that.
When they finally reached the cave, it took a minute for Raven’s eyes to finally notice the chains around Bellamy’s hands. A while because well…no one was doing anything about them. Her eyes frantically darted to each face, waiting for them to come to the same realisation. Before the penny finally dropped with sound of a stinging blow. They…did this. It wasn’t grounders that chained up Bellamy, it was them…
She didn’t have time to process the weight of that revelation before Octavia delivered another ruthless blow. Wasn’t anyone going to…? Shouldn’t they…? “What the hell is…?" Another blow. Raven sure as hell wasn't just going to stand here and watch. She understood pain, probably more than most. But this was not okay.
Stay outta this? Like. Hell. So she did the only logical thing she could do in this situation. Steadying her bum leg, she snuck up behind the currently occupied Octavia, grabbing her arm mid blow. Catching the younger girl off guard for a moment, before balling her free hand into a fist and delivering a single hard punch square in the middle of Octavia's face. That sweet spot. Knocking her out cold. There wouldn’t be any lasting damaging and perhaps when she came to, she’d feel saner. Since the girl had clearly lost her damn mind. “What are the rest of you looking at? GET OUTTA HERE!” She yelled, barely turning, unable to look at them. Disgusted by their complacency and therefore participation in what just happened. “And take her with you,” she added, motioning to Octavia.
Finally as they shuffled out she turned to Bellamy, crouching down to be at eye level with the bloodied broken man. She had so many questions but instead just concentrated on getting him out of these goddamn chains, trying not to dwell on the way he just stood there and took a beating. Taking a pin from her pocket, she held onto the chain around his wrist before using it to free him from his binds.

Raven supposed she should be used to it by now. Losing the people she was closest too. That in some sick way it should get easier with each death. That she should learn not to get close to the people around her because sooner or later they would leave. They always leave. But this? Now? No this couldn’t be happening. She refused to accept it. Bellamy Blake would not die today. Raven was not about to let this happen again. She would not make the same mistake twice.
There had to be something…anything she could do to stop this. It was insane. Bellamy was the reason they were all here, why they had survived this long. He shouldn’t be executed for that…Goddammit he couldn’t be! A distraction. That’s all she needed. If Raven could just build something to distract the guards, she could get him out of there. Or die trying. Hopefully the former. But either way, she wasn’t letting him go without a fight. Or else…she wasn’t going to let him die alone. She furrowed her eyebrows at the thought, a tear falling down her cheek, before she hastily wiped it away.
No grieving…the man wasn’t dead yet. There was still hope. Making her way to her workshop, all she needed was a little time to build the contained explosion to get him out of there. Just a little bit of time. When she reached her door however, Raven couldn’t help but notice the people walking in the opposite direction. “No…” she all but whispered to herself. It was happening. She was running out of whatever precious moments she had left to use to get him out of there. “NO!” she yelled, before turning on her heel.
Trying to steady her breathing she ran, there was still time. She could think of something else. Dammit she was Raven Reyes, she wasn’t going to allow this. Not again. If he…no. She couldn’t think like that. Raven could…run across, tackle Pike? The others would help her surely. She could grab the gun off a guard. Hold someone hostage. Shoot someone in the leg. Or better yet aim the goddamn gun at Pike then maybe he’d…
Stopping dead in her tracks, she almost tripped over the people she pushed passed to reach him. The sight alone winded her. Bellamy on his knees, bound legs and hands. A gun pointed directly at his head. Her eyes raced frantically around the guards, the people, looking for anything that could possibly prevent this before they finally locked with his own. A knowing look in his eyes of acceptance meeting her own look of desperate anguish. Oh god…
But maybe if she just….
------------------ While Raven had heard more than her fair share of gun shots in her life, this particular one deafened her. Her mind couldn’t comprehend what her eyes were seeing. The first sound that registered was screaming….no it was more like wailing. Like a dying animal. Her eyes darted around to find the source of the god awful noise before she realised…it was her. She looked at her hands and found…blood? Under her fingernails. Her cheeks felt raw from what she now realised were deep scratches. The gravel dug into her knees before she fully grasped that she’d fallen to the ground.
This couldn’t be…but it was. Slowly…finally, she raised her head. To see him. Taking in the sight, as it burned into her brain forever. Along with all the other terrible things she’d been forced to witness. The hole in his head and the blood splatter beyond it. His…body, just lying there like a rag doll. And his face. Devoid of any grief or happiness, or the lines caused by the responsibility he carried. Showing...a young man...a kid. Like they all were. Or like they all should have been. His expression just empty.
Just like she was now. Swallowing she couldn’t look away, as sob after sob racked her body. She could never save them. Why would this time be any different? Perhaps because out of everyone, the one person she never expected to lose...was Bellamy. Not like this.
Raven supposed she should be used to it now...

When Gena arrived, Raven stopped dead in her tracks. Perfection. The dress, on her figure. She couldn’t have planned it better herself. Bellamy was going to freak. Raven ignored her questions and insecurities and just shamelessly stared as she quietly shushed the other girl. Laying a hand on either side of her arms in reassurance. “You look smokin’ hot,” she said with a smile. “If we weren’t already friends, I’d stand these guys up and just date you myself,” she added with a sly wink, to make Gena a laugh and maybe calm her nerves a bit. God knows she’d be nervous and maybe want to kill Raven slightly when she figured out who was coming. Bellamy definitely would. But Raven didn’t care. They’d thank her for it later. Not too much later though she hoped.
When the man in question finally arrived it took all of Raven’s will power to steel her expression and not just grin at them. She took a slight step back to allow Bellamy to get close to Gena…to greet her properly of course. The look on his face didn’t slip by her though. He liked what he saw. And why wouldn’t he. Gena looked bomb in that dress. His question however nearly blew her composure. She was so close to just laughing in his face because he knew this was a set up. By now that would be clear to both of them. “Hmmm?” she feigned innocence, the look in her eyes and the barely contained grin giving her away. “Oh well it looks like he’s running late,” she said knowing full well he wasn’t coming. Before either of them could have a chance to get out of this or very possibly kill her for doing this, she turned. “Well would you look at that…our table’s ready.” She said with the least subtle smile imaginable. “I’m sure he won’t mind. Shall we?” And with that Raven stepped forward content in the knowledge that so far her plan was working. Of course it was…she was Raven goddamn Reyes.
