Raven flinched at his reaction, immediately feeling guilt and shame at her harsh introduction. Not exactly a great first impression. But she couldn’t have people just strolling in here messing with her things, kid or no kid. She did recognise something in him though. Something familiar. That look in his eyes, of wonder and fascination with her little workshop. Well, it was a look she shared with him. And Raven would be one colossal bitch if she decided to snuff it out. Especially living in a world where every day was a fight for survival. Maybe she didn’t have to kick him out. Not yet anyway.
“You can’t just come in here kid, you gotta ask first,” she sighed, no anger in her tone this time, putting the pipe she’d been clutching down on the desk in front of him. “I’m afraid I can’t just let this slide,” she continued, raising an eyebrow at him. The beginnings of a smirk threatening to give her away. “You’re gonna have to do something for me.” Raven was unable to hide the smile this time. Because who was she kidding, Raven couldn’t stay mad at him. Not when she’d done the exact same thing countless times to Sinclair on the ark. “You up for it?” She asked, because despite her words suggesting otherwise, Raven wasn’t actually going to force him to do anything he didn’t want to. But something about him having the guts to sneak in here softened her stance. Perhaps it was because he reminded her of herself, or maybe she could just really use the distraction. This would probably prove to be a really bad idea, but who was Raven Reyes if not a risk taker.

Raven’s rooms were basically empty because she spent most of her time in her workshop. All her stuff was there since it was more practical that way. And everyone knew not to touch any of it. At least that’s what she thought. It was an unspoken rule. If Raven wasn’t in there then stay out. Not too difficult to understand. While usually she even slept in there, last night had been different. Her leg had been more painful than usual so she’d at least tried to lie down in her actual bed and get some sleep. Easier said than done. It was early morning when she finally gave up on that idea, having only had a couple hours sleep, she got up. A little crankier than usual but hey a couple hours sleep was better than no sleep at all. And it was enough for her to function so Raven couldn’t really complain.
Just before she got to the door of her workshop, Raven noticed a shuffling sound coming from inside. Great, an intruder. Just what she needed this morning. If someone was here to steal something, they’d have to go through Raven first. Slowly she quietly moved inside. Still unable to see anything apart from the top of a black haired man. Grabbing a pipe from one of the desks, she lunged forward towards him. “Put everything down!” she yelled, the pipe held above her. Only when she finally saw him, Raven lowered it. Because it wasn’t a black haired man. It was a black haired boy. He was just a kid. Sighing, Raven rolled her eyes. “You know half this stuff could kill you right?” A bit of an exaggeration but she went with it. “Probably not a good idea to play with any of it.” At least that was true. “What are you doing here, kid?”

The others blamed him? Those cowards. Using Bellamy as some sort of scape goat. Like everyone else was some kind of angel. They all had blood on their hands. The inhabitants of this cave seemed to have forgotten that. Hadn’t Kane been directly responsible for killing 300 people Raven had gone to the ground to desperately save? So clearly he had no leg to stand on, keeping Bellamy chained up here. The hypocrisy was infuriating. And in this case for Bellamy, Lincoln’s blood wasn’t even on his hands. Pike pulled that trigger. Not him. And if Raven hadn’t suddenly woken up in a reality where democracy didn’t exist amongst the arkers, Pike had been elected chancellor by the majority, not by Bellamy alone. He didn’t deserve to be treated this way. Not by the people who should have kept him safe. Who should have been there for him….herself included.
She tried to listen to him, tried to avoid these feelings of guilt but she couldn’t. With every word he spoke, she couldn’t even look at him. Hearing the desperate need in his voice for someone…anyone to be on his side for once. It damn near broke her heart that it had come to that. That he felt the need to be grateful to her for stopping him from getting beaten half to death rather than call her out for being absent this whole time. Like she wanted him to. "You . . . didn't give up on me." Raven placed her hand on his chin, forcing his gaze up as she rested her forhead against his. Fighting the tears from falling at the words of a clearly broken man. A man she cared for and respected and forever would. A man…they had broken. Because that was the truth wasn’t it. He was one of the strongest people she knew, surviving coming to the ground, keeping them alive…even defeating Mount Weather and…her death. Only to be truly broken by the people he lived to protect. It just wasn’t goddamn fair.
“And I never will,” she promised fiercely both hands on either side of his face as her eyes shut. “I’ve got your back Blake…always. Don’t you ever doubt that.” The same way he always had hers. Raven was never going to fail him again. “You deserve so much better than us, than this,” she continued, her voice wavering slightly. “We need to head back to camp and get you cleaned up.” And they needed to do it fast. Without the others stopping them. Because if they damn well tried, Raven was just itching to knock another bitch out.

With every step he took she took one further back, as a precaution. It wouldn’t do for the both of them to get hurt. Her heartrate increasing as the seconds ticked by. She didn’t understand it. Chalking up the feeling to an adrenaline rush. The same feeling she always got when blowing something up. It’s why she loved it so much, nothing else could mimic that feeling or take it away. This was different though, there was anxiety behind it. But there was no real reason for her to be nervous, to feel afraid for Bellamy? He was going to be fine in the long run. This was just a necessary unpleasant blip in his timeline.
When he stopped far enough away, Raven visibly paused before answering. “Perfect!” she yelled, trying to hide the shaking in her voice. Her thumb methodically fiddled with the remote, her eyebrows furrowing. This needed to happen, every fibre of her being was telling her that. For the…the good of their people…right? Then why was there a nagging feeling deep in the back of her mind begging her to tell him to just run. “Bellamy,” she began, keeping her normal speaking volume, like she didn't really want him to hear her as confusion lined her features. What was she doing? She was going to mess up the whole plan. Damn it Raven. She needed to man up and not act like a child. Her expression changed to one of fierce necessary determination. “I’m sorry,” Though for what, she wasn’t quite sure. He’s going to be fine…he’s going to be fine…he’s going to be fine, she continued to repeat internally looking down at the remote through seconds of hesitation. Before finally…
She pressed the button, looking away rather than forward at where Bellamy had stood, as she did. Raven didn’t want that image in her head. The blast was almost immediate pushing her back as she landed hard on the ground. It was done.

The way his face lit up as he mentioned his new surname brought her joy. It was a rare sight for both of them, with the ground usually offering very little to smile about. Though hopefully that would no longer be the case. This wedding represented the start of something new. The start of life. And Jackson was exactly who Bellamy deserved. The happiness they introduced into each other’s lives, giving them more purpose and meaning was just evidence of how perfect they were for each other. She could see that in every look they shared, every subtle glance and comforting touch. “I have a little more class than that thank you very much Mr. Blake Jackson,” she added sarcastically as she stood, unable to resist using his last name now.
She let him lead her from the side lines to the middle of the makeshift dance floor. Laying a hand on his shoulder while holding his with the other. Feigning offence at his question, the poorly hidden smirk beneath it gave her away. “I don’t wanna be arrogant or anything,” she began with a smirk, because really when did she not want that. “But I’m kind of a pro.” The truth was far from it. Other than the clumsy attempts with Finn, she’d never really had much opportunity to try. It wasn’t like she’d ever had a mother to teach her how. Not her mom anyhow. But Finn had always been the romantic, so he’d at least tried to teach her, leaving Raven with some basic understanding of how to properly move. Her problem, she remembered, was that she would always end up accidentally trying to lead. “Good luck keeping up with me Bellamy, you’re going to need it.”

Raven leaned into Bellamy’s touch closing her eyes at the contact of his hand gently stroking her forehead. So that for a moment she could pretend like everything was okay. Or at least that everything would be okay. But who were they kidding. Bellamy’s promises were empty. They had no real power here. The grounders had made that abundantly clear with…Finn and now with her. She desperately wanted to cling to the safety Bellamy wanted his words to offer, to the comfort. But she couldn’t. If they wanted to, those savages could march back in here and have her killed. Slowly, painfully, like they would have done to Finn.
She hissed again as he continued to clean the wound on her abdomen. The strain in her features an obvious tell that she was trying to hide the very real pain she was in. Instead of dwelling on it, Raven attempted to concentrate on Bellamy, his face, his words. She silently nodded, laying a hand on his arm to grab his attention, looking him in the eyes. “Thanks,” she said sincerely, choking back the tears of pain she wanted to cry. Refusing to let them show. “Careful though,” she began. “People who get close to me, who want to protect me…they,” her eyes closed as she spoke. “They always get hurt.” Like she was cursed. As if the universe was trying to make it abundantly clear that she didn’t deserve to be happy. “I don’t want that to happen to you.”

Though she’d never admit it, Raven liked seeing a smile on Bellamy’s face. The man looked like he needed a bit of cheering up. “Uugh paperwork, fun times,” she sighed, pouting at him. But if that meant she could bring her car back home then so be it. She’d do whatever it took. Even boring paperwork. “Let’s go back to mine,” She replied automatically. She was already basically done with everything here and her apartment was within walking distance. “You really look like you could use a drink…or 20, and I’ve got a 6 pack with your name on it.” Bellamy looked like he needed to loosen up a bit. And relax. His job must have been stressful enough as it is without adding a car chase to it. She sure as hell didn’t envy him in the slightest. But he loved his job, and she could at least relate to and respect that. Protecting the people, keeping them all safe. It’s what he was born to do. And besides, Raven was in a good mood. She wanted to celebrate and if that meant getting a little tipsy then so be it.
“Toss your keys over there,” she ordered, pointing at a desk in the corner. She needed to take extra care locking this place up now. Raven wasn’t about to let any other punk ass kid lay a hand on any of her cars. “And wait outside while I close up.” She then proceeded to immediately remove her overalls, not really waiting for Bellamy to leave. Raven had never exactly been known to be particularly shy. Still wearing a vest and booty shorts underneath, it wasn’t like she was stripping naked. Washing the grease off her hands underneath a faucet, she finally pulled on her trousers and an old red jacket, following Bellamy outside the garage. “And last but not least…” she whispered to herself, pulling down and locking the grate. “Shall we?” About time they each had a nice cold beer.

A brace for their pain. If only it were that easy. But it seemed there was no escape, no easy way out of the pain this world seemed determined to cause. An escape from pain was impossible, but boy did she crave it. Deep down, though she would never admit it, not even to herself, Raven would give anything not to feel like…this anymore. "For what it's worth, I'm glad you're still here." Even if the words weren’t true. Even if they were a kind lie he was telling for her sake, Raven desperately found solace in them. She appreciated them though she could feel herself crumbling beneath the guilt she felt with every word he spoke. Laying another hand on top of his own, she nodded in gratitude because she couldn’t quite bare to speak out of fear that she’d just start bawling again. And neither of them really needed that. Raven didn’t deserve his companionship, or his compassion. He should hate her. Every moment he didn’t…
“How many people have to die before they realise this is war?” She asked rhetorically, poorly hidden rage behind each word. They seemed so determined to find peace with people who had shown time and time again that they didn’t understand the meaning of the word. The grounders just weren’t capable. “Maybe…maybe we don’t deserve to survive.” It was all like some big cosmic joke, how much the ground had taken from her. She didn’t believe in fate but it was beginning to feel like it was working against her. Raven just couldn’t fight anymore. Not when everything she thought she was fighting for was being taken away from her one by one.

Raven sat alone in her room, eyes closed but still very much awake. Her brain whirring, always on in a way it never had been before. A.L.I.E.’s influence on her mind had been great and it showed no sign of wearing off. It had left her unable to get a good night’s sleep though, but she wasn’t too bothered about that. Used to it by now. And she didn’t need to much rest to function. And with the way her mind was different, that word had a whole new meaning to it. She was still discovering all the things she could do now, the new ability to code might only be the beginning and the idea of that…frightened her. But there was also a part of her which, though she refused to acknowledge it, felt almost exhilarated at the notion. She couldn’t help it.
But the biggest change around camp was the election. Chancellor Bellamy Blake, she thought with a smile. Chosen by the people. And she couldn’t think of anyone who would be better suited to the job. They needed him, hell that’s why she’d voted for him. Raven didn’t usually like concerning herself with politics but in this case she’d been more than happy to get involved. She jumped slightly at the knock on the door, so consumed with her own thoughts, before finally standing up and making her way over. “Bellamy,” she greeted him with a smile, hugging him quickly with one arm before standing aside and ushering him in. “Get your ass in here, Mr. Chancellor,” she teased. Because well…she had to. It was Bellamy after all. No matter what he was one of them, one of the people who had to survive it on the ground when they had no one and nothing. They would forever be bonded by that. “This is quite the honour,” she continued, a smirk never leaving her lips. But it did very little to hide the immense pride in her eyes.

Raven shuffled a little, consciously moving to block Harper’s view of the brace placed on the floor and leaning on the side of the bed. She didn’t want to have that conversation right now. Not while her heart was filled with the relief of seeing Harper. Though Raven knew she’d never want to have the conversation. What if Harper reacted with aversion at the state of her…or worse yet…pity? Raven didn’t think she could bare that look in the girls face. Purging the thoughts from her mind, she decided to instead focus on the touch of their lips in a soft kiss. The familiar feeling more effective than any pain relief she’d ever taken. Smiling into the kiss Raven felt tears behind her eyes. Only for once they were of joy. She couldn’t quite believe this was real. That they were finally together again.
Chuckling she kept a hand in Harper’s needing to be in contact with her…just in case. So she wouldn’t slip away like in the many dreams she’d had while they were apart. “Nope, not one bit,” she teased. “Finally had the bed to myself,” Raven added with a smirk. Though in reality, the cold nights had kept her awake. And without Harper beside her…well she hadn’t had a full night’s rest in a long time. Squeezing her hand, Raven’s gaze turned sincere. Looking down in guilt, she spoke. “I should have gotten you out sooner…before those evil sons of bitches laid a finger on you,” There was a pause as she cringed at the image her mind had conjured up. “The thought of them hurting you…I just...” She should have been there for her. Finally looking up, Raven couldn't quite meet Harper’s gaze.

Her eyelids fluttered shut when he pressed his lips to her forehead, smiling at the contact. Allowing the intimacy to calm her rather than confuse or unnerve her. Because that’s just what Bellamy did. He calmed her down and made her feel okay. Safe. In a way she hadn’t felt in ages perhaps ever. He was getting better at it the more this pregnancy progressed. Or maybe she was just getting better at accepting it. While intimacy was never usually her strong suit, in that moment she embraced the feeling, washing over her body and soul like a healing salve. While Raven didn’t want to admit aloud just yet…she needed him. Bellamy had become such an integral part of her life, the thought of doing this alone was just one she refused to even think about.
His smile was infectious, spreading to her face as she smiled back at him. It was such a pure moment, Raven could live in it forever. So she etched it into her memory, each crease, each dimple and that light in his eyes. Light that she knew was reflecting into her own. “A surprise?” Her tone was…skeptical. She didn’t much like surprises, preferring to be in control of everything around her. Her reaction to her pregnancy and their ‘surprise’ baby sufficient evidence of that. Surprises, especially in her line of work…were very rarely a good thing. But Raven wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt. “I’m gonna trust you here, Bellamy,” she said teasingly raising an eyebrow as she lowered her shirt and slowly pushed herself off the examination table. Leaning slightly on the older male before she found her footing on the ground. Walking with him towards the door and out of this place.
“Oh shit, Abby.” Her eyes wide, Raven had completely forgotten about her in her panicked state. “I’m so sorry,” for keeping her waiting during her whole freak out. But the doctor was as gracious as ever. Reassuring her that everything was fine and to get plenty of rest before scheduling their next appointment, giving Raven a small hug before letting her go. A smile and a glint in her eyes when she watched them walk away. “So what are you gonna show me?” She asked when they finally left, a smirk on her lips like she could trick him into telling her by catching him off guard.

She inhaled not quite gasping as he pulled her even closer to his body. It was the closest she’d ever been to another person in what felt like ages. She couldn’t help but be aware of that. Aware of her leg folded over his own, aware of his heart beating beneath the chest she currently had her arm slung over. Her own heart beat faster the more she thought about it. She almost sighed in relief when he spoke. So casually like being this close to another person was completely natural. It probably was. Perhaps she was the anomaly in this equation. “Monty, huh?” she said with a smirk shifting her head up inches away from his own so that he could see it, with obvious teasing in her tone. “I’ll try to be as good a bed mate as him.” Big shoes to fill.
“I’ll make sure to give you a gentle shove if you do.” Her smirk shifted to one of fake innocence at the wildly contradicting words in 'gentle shove.' Before breaking the façade with a chuckle, reverberating against him with how close they were. It was almost comical the way this intimacy unnerved her. But it always had. It’s why she’d actively avoided it in the past...until now. It’s why she wanted to fill the silence, so she selfishly wouldn’t have to think too much about it. If Raven had been a better person, she’d keep her mouth shut and slowly allow Jasper the rest he deserved. “Besides, you don’t have to worry about any of that stuff with me.” She didn’t want him feeling self-conscious while he lay next to her. Then he’d never rest. “I just want you to close your eyes,” as she spoke the words, her hand travelled from his chest to stroke his cheek, “and feel at least a little better when you open them,” she said with real sincerity. That's the reason Raven was here after all. Why she’d promised to stay with him as long as it took to help him recover.

Raven nodded briskly at Jasper’s request. “I can do that,” It was her automatic response to someone asking her to do something. Only this time, she wasn’t yet quite sure if she could manage it. Her voice was barely above a whisper, she screamed it hoarse before she was fully aware enough to stop it. Being consumed at the time with the overwhelming desire for the ground to split open and swallow her up and just take her away from this hell. A sentiment she still held, but instead she tentatively removed an arm from around Jasper’s neck, feeling almost safe in the knowledge and feeling of his own arms around her waist, supporting her. He’d catch her if she fell. So with that thought she leaned back onto her own legs, stumbling forward before finally finding her footing.
With each step they took towards wherever Jasper was leading them, Raven realised she could probably walk on her own now, unsupported. But she didn’t dare release her grip on Jasper’s shoulder. Raven needed him with her now. She didn’t care where they were going, or much about anything right now, they could be leaving Arkadia for all she knew, but she trusted him. When they finally got to what she realised must have been Jasper’s room, she paused. Anticipating the inevitable wave of grief they’d both feel when they finally sat down in the stillness and quiet, away from the commotion outside.
“Don’t let go of me,” she said, her voice cracking as she wiped fresh tears from her face. It was probably selfish, the way she was leaning on him, both literally and figuratively. Wallowing in her own grief without giving a thought to his. To what he was probably going through. Bellamy meant something to all of them not just her. But she couldn’t help it. It consumed her. For now at least there was no room for anything else.

Raven felt numb body and soul. She couldn’t comprehend what was happening around her. Her ears blocked out every other sound, her eyes every other sight. Except for…him. That was the only thing that held her focus. She just couldn’t bring herself to look away. The horrific sight was the stuff of nightmares. Only this wasn’t just some nightmare. Raven wasn’t going to wake up from this and find the world okay and back to normal and just goddamn sane. This was real. Bellamy was dead. Executed, no…murdered like an animal in chains and left on the ground. He didn’t deserve this. After everything he’d pulled them through, he deserved to at least die a hero not like some criminal.
She finally pulled her concentration away when she felt a hand turn her face. And the world suddenly came into focus. She was holding on to someone for dear life. The commotion around her finally registered. Her senses overwhelmed now. But she could at least pinpoint one feeling. And that was pain…complete excruciating pain. Her mind couldn’t quite differentiate the physical from the emotional, so she tried to focus on something else. Finally recognising Jasper as the person she was clinging on to. “We-- we need to get out of here.” Her eyebrows furrowed at the suggestion. She slowed her breathing, holding on to his arm as she followed him up to stand. But instead of turning to him she stumbled in the direction of Bellamy, trying to get her words out…only managing a hoarse whisper. “I have to…we should…” But there was no end to that sentence. There was nothing they could do for him now. The blood still seeping out of the wound was enough evidence of that.
Tearing her eyes away she stepped back towards Jasper, unapologetically leaning almost all her weight on him. His solid body the only thing keeping her upright. While normally she’d avoid asking for help, today…was about as far from normal as you could get. So with that thought she swallowed hard looping her arms around Jaspers neck. “Get me out of here Jasper,” she finally said. Her voice cracking on the last word as she agreed to his suggestion. She needed him…because she was aware enough to damn well know she didn’t want to be alone right now.

Instead of the disappointment she’d expected, Raven found something else in his features when he gently tilted up her chin, forcing her to look at him. Every word he spoke chipped away at her fear bit by bit. It wasn’t gone completely. Far from it. But perhaps he was right. And this was the good kind of fear. She didn’t interrupt however, when he spoke to her strength, and she sure as hell didn’t interrupt him when he described what it would be like to love her children. Plural now.
His words overwhelmed her. No one in her life had ever seen her that way before. Raven had always had to show off her own accomplishments, wearing them like armour to prove people wrong. To prove that she was more. Raven had to make herself invincible, and since coming to the ground, relying on people for that just wasn’t an option. But with Bellamy she didn’t need that armour. With every word…he made her feel not just invincible…he made her feel beautiful. In every sense of the word. Like he honestly believed every word he said, and it wasn’t just Raven as usual…arrogantly trying to prove that she was worth something. He already thought she was worth something. She didn’t feel alone…not for one second…not with Bellamy. She had to admit…the man was damn good at giving speeches.
"What do you say?" She visibly paused, not giving him an answer as the seconds ticked by using the time to try and process everything he’d just said. Because she never wanted to forget it. Raven had learned the hard way that she had to pick herself first…carry herself independently. But now, at least for this perfect moment, Bellamy had her fully convinced otherwise. He’d somehow managed to turn the revelation of twins from one of crippling fear to one of hope. Only Raven wasn’t quite as articulate as Bellamy. She believed in actions speaking louder than words. So with that she finally released his hand from her vice like grip placing it on the back of his head before pulling him forward and leaning down to place a soft kiss…on his cheek.
“Thank you,” she said sincerely wiping away a tear, a slight look of confusion on her face at the intimacy of her display of affection. Bellamy was confusing her. Taking her other arm she held him tightly against her in a hug, burying her head in the crook of his neck. Like his arms were some kind of shield. That instead of using distance and arrogance as her armour…Bellamy could be her armour too. She hadn’t felt that way about anyone…in a long time. “I…” She began, not sure exactly how she’d intended that sentence to end. “I really needed that.” She hadn’t realised how much until he’d said it.
Letting him go she stroked his cheek for a moment, a real actual smile on her face. “You know Bellamy…you’re gonna make a hell of a dad.” It wasn’t quite as eloquent, but well Raven wasn’t exactly the eloquent type. It was however completely genuine. Before, Raven had been afraid and unsure, but now... “I…couldn’t imagine anyone else,” …being the father of her children. “I don’t want anyone else.” And she meant it. Surprising herself even as she said the words.
