A.L.I.E saved her from the excruciating and constant pain she’d suffered on a daily basis. That’s all that mattered really. She didn’t know why she hadn’t accepted the key to the city of light sooner. Who wouldn’t want to live in a land without pain, or heartbreak or even death itself? The city of light would be their own paradise. And she would do whatever it took to help get everyone there. A.L.I.E was their salvation and Raven would be eternally grateful for what she’d gifted her. So when she asked the young mechanic to help deal with a small problem on their way to the city of light Raven was more than happy to oblige. Whatever she needed.
Bellamy was a force of nature and a hell of a leader. People trusted him and followed him, so when he rejected the key, so many others did too. It wasn’t fair. They should be allowed to feel the euphoria and peace she was feeling. Bellamy’s attitude was depriving them of that right. She just couldn’t stand for it. She wouldn’t. And besides, she wasn’t really going to kill him. Not forever. Raven cared about him and wouldn’t allow any real harm to come to Bellamy. Death was no longer the end for any of them, A.L.I.E promised her that. Not in the city of light. And Raven trusted her of course, implicitly. He would understand eventually, but they didn’t have time for that now. She was doing this for his sake, for all their sakes.
Raven sat in her workshop, her hand resting on her now painless leg. No longer distracting her from the task at hand. Without the pain, Raven had gotten so much work done, so many new ideas forming in her mind. One idea that she was just beginning to perfect was a brand new weapon. Short range grenades with remote detonation. It was perfect for what she now needed to do. Just as she was about to thread a wire through one of the prototypes, the sound of footsteps forced her to freeze.

whatever THE HELL WE WANT Been better. That was the response he had given Pike when asked how he was holding up. They had lost Monroe. Because of his sister's loyalty to the Grounders. Bellamy hadn't wanted anyone to die that day. This was about doing what they had to in order to secure the Arkers future. Just like the Grounders had constantly done to them. And instead, it resulted in Zoe Monroe's death. The loss was heavy, as she was one of the few remaining delinquents that Bellamy was close to. Her unwverng loyalty. She had come with them, to help fight for them. And instead . . . she had paid, with her life. She didn't deserve it. And Bellamy was damn tired of losing people.
It was getting to be too much. Now, his sister was a known traitor and he was afraid that he wouldn't be able to protect her. Not to mention the fact that Kane also had a target on his back and was set in Pike's sights. He wanted evidence against him, and Bellamy had agreed to get it. But . . . the entire thing left him conflicted. And apparently, it showed. Enough for Jaha to approach him.
Bellamy had heard of what he was giving out and had zero interest in it. The way it was presented though, left the younger male staring at the former Chancellor. What, three Chancellor's ago was it now? He was offering him a way to be free of all the pain. The pain of Mount Weather, the pain of Clarke's actions, the pain of all their losses, the pain of Gena's death, the pain of his sister's circumstance . . . everything. But Bellamy offered no words in return. None that indicatd he wanted to have this conversation.
Thelonious said he needed to get them from Abby as she had them, and that, prompted him to approach the doctor. He publicly rejected taking it though, not about to let Jaha get inside his head. Instead, he went to find Abby. Not to eat the pills themselves, but to find out more. She explained the side effects that she noticed, and even used a specific person as an example of someone she was especially worried about. Raven.
That, was something they both had in common: how closely they regarded the woman. So when she expressed her concern, Bellamy assured her that he would find out more. That he would see what he could do. He was so damn tired of failing people, especially those he cared about. It wasn't difficult to find Raven. She was at her work splace, working on something or another that Bellamy had no interest in right now. He was more concerned about her."Hey," he greeted, stepping right inside and moving toward her so that he was standing next to her. "Can we talk?" Which meant, he needed her undivided attention.

Ah Bellamy. Just the man she wanted to see. This was going to be easier than she thought. It could only have turned out better if he’d come gift wrapped and ready to die for the cause himself. But perhaps he was here for a specific reason. Perhaps he'd seen the error of his ways and wanted the key after all. He'd been through a lot. Suffered just as much if not more than she ever did. Maybe she wouldn’t have to go through the unpleasantness of taking his life. It was a naïve thought but Raven was still hopeful. Hmmm, hopeful, an unfamiliar emotion she hadn’t felt for a long time. Turning in her seat she looked up at him and smiled. “Bellamy, I’m actually glad you’re here.” If Bellamy was willing to take the pill, so many others would follow suit. Just like they had after she took it. It was a win/win situation. The thought that he wouldn’t agree was almost ludicrous.
However it wouldn’t be the end of the world if she was wrong in her assumptions. Keeping one hand on the grenade Raven hadn’t forgotten her objective. Just keeping it as a plan B for now. “You are here to help me get the pills from Abby aren’t you?” Abby refused to understand what Jaha was doing for them. He was saving them. But no matter, she would understand in time. Standing up with the same smile plastered on her face, she laid a hand on his shoulder reassuringly. Not a move she would normally be comfortable with. “You’re going to love the city of light Bellamy, there’s no pain only everlasting bliss,” she said, mimicking the pitch Jaha had made so many times since he arrived. Keeping up with the hopeful assumption that he would see things from her eyes. Raven really didn’t want to have to kill him. But if it came to that, she would do what she had to do.

whatever THE HELL WE WANT She really was out of her damn mind. It was unsettling to see her like this. While someone normally wanted happiness for their friend . . . not like this. Not a drug induced oblivion. Denial, was not healing. The last intense conversation he had with Raven was after Gena's death. There was no way this kind of transformation was healthy. Her hand on his shoulder provided him no comfort and only more concern. He ignored every damn thing she said, having not way of actually responding to the non sensical jabber of the city of light that Thelonious spouted off. The man was preying on people's pain.
He hadn't been here for so long and suddenly turned up, acting like he knew what was best for the Arkers. It sounded so damn familiar . . . as Clarke entered his mind. But no. This wasn't about that. This was about Raven. And right now, she was not being herself. "I heard about Finn's ashes." Monty had told him after having found out from Jasper. Bellamy would never forget Finn's death. The pain it caused everyone, some more than others. The way he held her as she mourned him in the immediate seconds following his death. He didn't often try to provoke her about something like this, but right now, he needed to see just how far the damage went. Just how fargone she was so that he could better assess how to help her.
"You ok?" About that in particular. He couldn't be too obvious in his reasons for this conversation. She was clearly stoned, but he wasn't stupid enough to underestimate her intelligence. It was still there and he didn't want to tip her off. He didn't want to push it and at the same moment, wasn't going to waste time engaging in a conversation about the city of light . . . or telling her he was going to get her more pills. That was the last thing she needed right now. She needed to get better. Naturally.

He ignored her. Just completely ignored everything she said. Well, that was disappointing. It seemed she would have to go with plan B after all. It would be messier but it wasn't entirely unexpected. She was still prepared at least. Sighing she sat back down. It was obvious what he was trying to do. Bellamy was trying to provoke her. Disprove the effects of the city of light and everything it could offer them. Force her to feel pain perhaps? But that’s what he didn’t understand, what she had tried, and it seemed failed to make him understand. There was no need for any more pain. Finn’s death didn’t hurt her anymore, neither did Gena’s or her mothers. Nothing hurt, and Raven loved it.
“Jasper told me everything,” she said indifferently. Putting some finishing touches on the grenades she was building. Almost done. “I’m not angry, I’m glad actually.” Those ashes had been nothing more than an anchor. A reminder of her past and the pain she’d endured. “It’s about time I let him go.” She didn’t need any more reminders. The future was all Raven needed to concentrate on. And it looked so bright. "The key could help you let go too. Gena would want you to be happy. She'd want us both to be happy." It was a last ditch attempt and getting him to change his mind. But she had to try. Standing up once more, she grabbed a bag nearby and slowly began loading the grenades inside. Keeping the remote tucked away and hidden safely in her pocket. “Would you carry these for me?” she asked kindly. “Unless they’re too heavy for you.” The smile briefly turning into a smirk as a flicker of her old self shone through for a moment. “I need to test them out and I could use an extra set of hands.” It was the perfect trap. Bellamy had no reason to suspect a thing.

whatever THE HELL WE WANT Her reaction was . . . too un-Raven like. No. This wasn't Raven. Whatever was happening, couldn't be healthy. It was one thing to heal, another to be forced into what almost seemed like a denial. It wasn't good. And he wouldn't stand to see her like this. How could she be so calm talking about Finn? Letting him go, as if it were so easy. But when she brought up Gena . . . that was when he really felt like he'd been hit hard. He clenched his jaw in attempt to bite back the emotions. How dare she speak of her like that, as if she was so easy to get over. As if she was so easy to let go.
He had loved her, and Raven was the only person he had admitted that to. Let go of Gena. How could she even suggest that. "What, you let go of her? Just like that, as if its so damn easy?" His voice was not raised, but it was blunt. Whatever this was doing to her . . . she was not in her right mind. She and Gena were best friends. Raven had lost the man she loved. And now she was acting like it was nothing. "Unlike you, I can't let the people I care about go so easily." His words held an almost double meaning to them.
The first referring to letting people go in terms of death. The second, was letting them go like how Raven was slipping away. Whether she picked up on that or not, he didn't know. He mindlessly took the bag of grenades, ignoring her tease cause he sure as hell didn't feel like he could fall into a jovial mood. And her smiles and smirks were bothering him more and more. "Where exactly do you plan on doing that?" He questioned, regarding her testing out the grenades. He was trying to focus on business, at least until he could get his emotions in check. Her words had affected him far more than he could let on. Anything, regarding Gena threatened to undo him.

The low tone of his voice did little to hide the pain behind his words. She knew Gena was a hard topic for him to talk about. Hell it was a hard topic for her to talk about. Or at least it used to be. That’s why she had chosen it. But she should have known his stubborn nature wasn’t going to change in the space of a few seconds. She had just held on to the hope that a reminder of the pain her death had caused would nudge him toward the right path. The path to bliss. She was wrong. “You’ve suffered enough Bellamy. I just want you to be happy,” she sighed, defeated. Like she was happy. And soon he would be. There was no point kidding herself about what she had to do now. Because Raven cared about him. She was doing this for him. When they see each other again in the city of light he’ll understand. He’ll thank her. She was sure of it.
“Just a short walk outside Arkadia,” He was acting sceptical which was…unnerving to say the least. It didn’t mean he suspected anything, but Raven really didn’t want any complications. “There’s an empty field where I test out all my toys.” It was barren making it perfect for all her experiments. Walking in front of him towards the door she paused and waited for him to follow. “So are you coming or not?” Raven tried to keep a casual tone while asking the question, when in fact she awaited his response with bated breath. She wasn’t in any condition to force him to go with her, and A.L.I.E had specifically asked for it to look like an accident. And Raven would just hate to disappoint her especially after everything she’d given her. After all, nobody would ever think she’d blow Bellamy up on purpose. Blowing things up was her specialty so if it came to a physical fight, there wouldn’t exactly be any evidence left to prove it. Not if Raven had anything to do with it.

whatever THE HELL WE WANT She wanted him to be happy. He wanted the same for her, but not like this. It was so . . . fabricated. Forced. Fake. Whatever you wanted to call it. This was not happiness. But he knew that arguing with her was futile. She clearly wasn't in the proper state of mind. He never thought he would long for her attitude and smart ass, sassy remarks as much as he did right now in this moment. He felt like everyone was slipping away from him. Physically. Emotionally. Mentally. And he couldn't do anything to stop it. He couldn't bring them back. So many people had died. So many others had rejected him or left. And now Raven . . . she was here, but not really here.
It devestated him, and he was determined to save whoever he could. Which involved not letting her out of his sights. She opened the door and stood by it expectantly. Maybe he could make her see reason. Maybe getting away from the enclosed area would help. He knew that either way she was going. He needed to reach out to her; get through to her. This time alone could give him that opportunity. Set on his mission, he gave a short nod and clutched the bag of grenades she had stuffed in here, stepping outside the door and moving to walk alongside her.
"What's the news on these grenades?" He asked her, trying to distract the conversation until they were in the abandoned field. He figurined talking about her work was a safer subject for the time being. Unless she lost her passion for that as well. While distraction was the primary reason for his question, there was also genuine curiosity. If she had been able to make grenades -- which, he wouldn't put anything past Raven considering her exceptional skill -- then this would give the Arkers an added strength against the Grounders. More weapons that they would not be a match for.

Raven let out a breath she hadn’t realised she’d been holding the moment he agreed to go with her. It was all coming together. While this wasn’t ideal, it was what had to be done. For the good of their people. If Bellamy wasn’t going to follow them to the city of light then he had to be dealt with…temporarily at least. While walking she became acutely aware of the small handgun she had hidden earlier and tucked away in the back of her pants under her shirt. That was plan C. Blowing people up was detached, easy. Shooting them in the head was a lot harder. And Raven prayed it wouldn’t have to come to that.
“They’re a new design,” she said, an excited look in her eyes. Raven hadn’t had a bright new idea since Mount Weather, and now without the pain she could concentrate better. “Smaller blast radius but ten times the damage.” It was perfect for completely annihilating specific victims. So, perfect for her current predicament. “And here check this out, it’s the best part.” Slowing down, she pulled out the remote from her pocket and showed it to him. “It’s a short distance remote control, so less risk.” Tucking it back into her pocket she picked up the pace again. “I know, you don’t have to say it. I’m awesome.”
Finally passing the guards at the gate, Raven felt butterflies in the pit of her stomach. It wasn’t every day you blow up a friend to oblivion. But no, that wasn’t entirely accurate. Because it wasn’t oblivion. A.L.I.E promised her that. It was just strange for them to be freely discussing the very weapon that she was going to use to kill him. “Just a little further. Past those trees,” she said pointing ahead of them. They had to go far enough so that nobody from the camp would see any sort of struggle or be able to immediately respond with help.

whatever THE HELL WE WANT At least she sounded like the normal Raven when she was talking about her work. That put a very natural smile on her face and it was good to see that. He still remembered her expression when she would delve into her stories to Gena, speaking of her skills on the Ark and even the ground. The thought made his stomach twist with pain. The thought of Gena often did that, especially when it was impossible to ignore due to minimal distractions. He glanced at the remote when she pulled it out. "That is pretty impressive," he told her. "We can set them up around the perimeter of Arkdia." Should the grounders attack, they would be able to deter them and weakn the army even before they reached their gates.
"Nice work." Because she deserved the praise for this. He may not like the fact that she was all, high off this drug, but it wasn't compromising her work. It gave him hope that the real Raven was still in there, somewhere. He just needed to wean her off of this damn thing. He gave a short nod to the guards who casually watched them as they passed. "Can I see the remote?" He asked nonchalantly, extending his hand expectantly as he assumed she wouldn't have any objection. Besides, he was the one holding the bag of grenades so he wasn't going to do something stupid like blow himself up.

It didn’t seem like he suspected anything. Praising her for the weapon she’d specifically designed to kill him. It was almost funny. "Can I see the remote?" Raven stopped dead in her tracks just shy of the clearing. “No!” she said a little too quickly and a little too loudly. There was no way she was going to let him lay a hand on the remote. That wasn’t part of the plan. The plan was that she would ask him to set up one of the grenades and then accidently blow him up before he could move far enough away. But it was clear her sudden outburst would do nothing but raise suspicion. She needed to do some damage control. Fast. “I mean, not yet. I only want you to see it if it actually works. Right now it could be just a piece of junk.” It was a lame excuse but she couldn’t let him get suspicious.
“I tell you what Blake, if it works the first time I’ll let you blow up the next grenade,” she said, hoping to strengthen the lie. “My treat, huh. What do you say?” Only of course he wouldn’t be alive to blow up the next grenade anyway. But it wasn’t exactly the first lie she’d told him. “You’re really gonna love it when it goes boom.” Okay, okay, that was for more for her than for him. It was almost like she had an inside joke that she’d only shared with herself. And it wasn’t cruel seeing as he wasn’t really going to die. It was just a temporary inconvenience, in order to introduce more people to the city of light. “We’re here,” she said with a relived sigh as they approached her play area. Finally it was time to get this over and done with.

whatever THE HELL WE WANT Her overly adament No! caused him to slightly raise an eyebrow at the zeal in which she said it. She then gave an explanation, which . . . he supposed he'd have to accept. She was rather over protective of her work after all. And with good reason. It could be dangerous. She was the one best equipped to handle it. "Do I have the option to say no?" He asked sarcastically when she provided another alternative and asked how it sounded. He wasn't entirely kidding with his question, but he wasn't going to push it. She knew what she was doing . . . he hoped.
Besides, he wasn't out here to start a fight with her. He was planning to take advantage of the fact that they were far from the others, to have a conversation with her. To try and get through to her. To understand what exactly was going on with her. She was different. Too different. An unsettling and abrupt change in her behavior. It wasn't normal and there was no way in hell this drug came without a price.
Without some sort of cost. When she stated that they were here, he dumped the bag of grenades onto the floor and turned to look at her. He hadn't missed the way she walked, seemingly void of any pain or strain. After months of seeing flickers of it in rare moments -- because she was strong and tried to keep it hidden -- this was the first time he saw her walk with only a smile and ease on her features. He would have been happy for her, relieved for her . . . but he knew that this couldn't be real.
"This isn't you, Raven." He couldn't deny the conversation any longer. He was far from done in trying to get through to her. He turned to face her, his eyes intently fixating on her. "You told me that Gena would want me to be happy." He had to pause, forcing the emotion back every time he spoke of Gena. Raven was perhaps the only person he could even do so with. But that was fading fast with the way she was now.
"Well Finn would want the same for you." It was what they had in common: both losing someone that they loved. And ironically, both at the hands of Grounders, though obviously for very different circumstances. "And this, what you're experiencing . . . that's not happiness." Smiling, laughing, able to talk about heartbreaking events with an ounce of pain. It was unnatural. Unhealthy. And he didn't know what would happen when it all blew up . . . no pun intended.

Raven sighed internally. He was doing it again. Trying to “save” her, when really she wasn’t the one that needed saving. How could he not see it? The benefits that the City of Light offered were plain as day. She felt so much better, lighter at the weight of all her grief being lifted. She didn’t even know what it used to feel like. As if all that heartbreak floated away like a memory of a memory. “You’re wrong Bellamy,” she said simply, the same unnerving smile gracing her features. “This is exactly me.” But without the burden of the pain she had suffered, pain that she never needed to think about again.
“If anything, this is happiness in its purest from. Finn and Gena would understand that. They’d be happy for me.” Like he should be. It was bliss. She’d never felt like this in her life. Suddenly, she wasn’t lost anymore, Raven had a real purpose. “You don’t know what this is like, and you’re never gonna know until you take the key.” There was no point trying to convince him of the way she felt anymore. Of the benefits A.L.I.E had kindly given her. He was far too stubborn and set in his own state of mind. “Aren’t you the least bit curious?” Bellamy had been through more than his fair share of pain, much more. He stood to earn the most from the City of Light. It’s why she was doing this. This whole plan was a way to save him. From his pain…from himself. “Now, pass me a grenade.” It was time to get this show on the road.

whatever THE HELL WE WANT She told him plainly that he was wrong, but this was one particular instance that he was really standing his ground. While he had always longed to see her smile . . . her current one terrified him. It looked so, artificial, somehow. How could one just simply ignore all the pain they had endured? Especially someone like Raven? It wasn't natural. It wasn't normal. And he feared how it was going to end. "No they wouldn't," he bluntly retorted confidently, no doubt in his mind that this isn't what either Finn or Gena would want for her. "Gena was real. This, isn't." Not in the slightest. "Finn would want you happy. Genuinely, happy. And right now, you're relying on a damn key to do that." How could it be what they wanted for her when it was undoubtedly endangering her.
He didn't understand it . . . her next words holding truth. He didn't know what it was like, and he wouldn't unless he took it. She even went as far as to ask whether he was the slightest bit curious about it. Was he? No. He couldn't be. This seemed more like a threat than a blessing. "No," he answered simply. Bellamy's mind wandered back to something Abby had said, in regards to Jaha unable to recall his son. "But I am curious about something. If this is happiness in its purest form . . . does that mean you weren't happy with Finn? That you can't think of a time with him when you were happy?" He didn't know the details of their relationship, but he knew enough. Enough to pose the question and try to fish for some answers. While asking it he reached for the grenade as she asked for, not as focused on the weapon as he was on her potential answer, though he proceeded to extend the grenade to her.

His response wasn’t surprising but that didn’t make it any less disappointing. Plan B it was. Though she never thought Plan A would work in the first place. This was the only sure fire way of getting this done. With Bellamy in the City of Light, everyone else would follow. This was one job she couldn’t afford to fail. He had to die. For his own good. Every word he said barely registered in her mind. Of course this was real. The key was only a facilitator, taking it didn’t make this any less genuine. A.L.I.E was just trying to help them. To save them.
“That you can't think of a time with him when you were happy?" Unlike the rest of his words, that made her stop. For just a fraction of a second, she paused and tried to think of him. Her eyebrows furrowing in visible confusion before she felt her own mind shift. Reminding her of her mission. The almost blank expression of bliss back on her face as quickly as it had been replaced. “I don’t need to think of him now. I don’t hurt anymore.” It was the only response her mind could make up. She knew what he was doing. He was trying to distract her. Well…it wouldn’t work. Raven instead focused on activating the radio signal in the grenade, but she couldn’t shake a feeling in the back of her mind. A feeling he’d put there with his words. An almost familiar feeling of…doubt? No. After everything she’d done, Raven couldn’t doubt A.L.I.E now. “Here,” she said offering the now live grenade back to Bellamy. “Place it over there in the middle of the clearing,” she said pointing in front of them. “Be careful though, we don’t want any accidents.” She added needlessly, almost sadistically. Though at this point she just wanted this over and done with. The remote firmly in her hands, she waited. Each second dragging on as the moment grew closer and closer. It was time to blow up Bellamy Blake.
