She wiped the tears from his cheeks and told him not to be sorry for having left her behind. Telling him that she’d told them to leave, but how could he not be sorry. How could he not feel guilty about leaving her down there, they’d abandoned her for what they thought would be certain death. They hadn’t had a choice, deep down he knew that if they hadn’t left when they did then they wouldn’t have gone at all, but that didn’t erase his guilt. “Still, we left you down here… You’ve been alone down here for six years!” he couldn’t even begin to imagine how hard that must’ve been for her, to be alone for six years with no one to talk to.
They were back now though and if Monty had anything to do with it, she’d never have to be alone again. Everyone would be so happy to see her again, surprised maybe but once the initial shock wore off they’d definitely be happy. He couldn’t wait to see the looks on their faces when they saw her, but first he’d allow her time to get used to the idea that they were there and she wasn’t alone anymore. “You saved our lives” Monty confirmed, the smile never leaving his face “if you hadn’t been down here we would have died.. For a moment I thought we were going to” a laugh escaped him as he spoke now and he lifted a hand up to his head, running his hand through his hair.
The smile disappeared from his face when she told him of her efforts to contact them however, it was the first he’d heard of it. “Every day?” he asked her in disbelief, every day for the past six years. As far as he knew, they hadn’t heard anything from earth since they’d left, they’d assumed Clarke was dead. “No, we didn’t hear anything from you” Monty answered her, his voice wavering a little “if we’d known you were down here then we would have tried to come down sooner” there were a few different reasons to why they were late, but Monty knew that if they had heard from Clarke then they would have tried everything that they could to hurry the process along.Clarke Griffin

Monty knew that the bunker was no longer an option, when they’d chosen to carry on to get Raven they’d all known that they wouldn’t make it back in time. They’d made that decision and now they had only one option left if they wanted to survive. They were going back into space, going back to the place that he’d lived for the majority of his life. Monty never dreamed that he’d ever go back to the ark, not since he’d arrived on earth with the other delinquents, he hadn’t thought that it was possible to return, until now. Monty wasn’t particularly looking forward to spending the next five years in space, a few months ago it might not have been such a daunting thing to think about, but now there were so many ghosts up there. However, Isaiah was excited at the idea of going to space, Monty could see how excited his boyfriend was whenever he looked at him and he didn’t want to take away that joy from him. Isaiah deserved to be excited, he’d finally get to see that view that they’d talked about. Monty just couldn’t share his enthusiasm, growing up on the ark hadn’t been the most enjoyable experience and there were bad memories up there but it wasn’t the bad memories that Monty feared. It was the good ones that scared him the most. They were going back to the place where Monty had grown up, the place where he’d grown up with Jasper. Thinking about his brother now was painful, so painful and he missed him so much. The ark was where they’d grown up together, where they’d spent hours looking down at earth and making up silly games to pass the time. Where they never spent a day apart from each other, every memory Monty had up there was a memory of Jasper and he didn’t know if he was ready to be confronted with those memories. He didn’t doubt that there would come a time when he’d be grateful for the good memories that he had of his brother, but so soon after he’d lost him… It was still so painful.
He couldn’t afford to waste time mourning him now, he would have plenty of time for that when they were safe, because he knew that from the time they got in the rocket to the time where they arrived at what remained of the ark, a million things could go wrong and knowing their luck, they probably would. Monty did his part when it was time for them to get everything ready, they were racing against the clock and it gave him something else to focus on. When Isaiah approached and slipped his hand into Monty’s, he wondered if the other man was at all afraid of what they were about to do. He guessed that he must be, he’d never done anything like this before and Monty remembered how scared he’d been during his journey to earth, the excitement had still been there but there was also fear.
When it was almost time for them to leave, Monty took his seat beside Isaiah and felt his boyfriend squeeze his hand tighter than he had before. “You okay?” he asked him, smiling in an effort to reassure his boyfriend. He wasn’t going to lie, the grip that the other man had on his hand was painful, but if it’s what Iah needed to help him get through the journey, then Monty wouldn’t take it away from him. “No, it’s not painful” he chuckled slightly at Isaiah’s question “it might be a bit of a bumpy ride, but it shouldn’t hurt” and then he paused, seeming to think of something at the last minute and pulled his hand quickly out of Isaiah’s. “Make sure you’re strapped in properly” he muttered as he reached across and quickly made sure that Isaiah’s restraints were secure. He had said that it wouldn’t hurt but he didn’t want any accidents and he knew that he’d at least feel a lot better if he checked to make sure Iah was safe himself. Once he was satisfied, he sat back in his own seat and made sure his own restraints were secure, eager to remain as secure as he could on the journey. Then he reached over and took Isaiah’s hand back in his own, giving it a squeeze of his own. “Hey, soon you’ll get to see what it’s like to live in space” he told him, forcing a smile for Isaiah’s benefit as he knew that his boyfriend was unavoidably excited about going to space and he deserved to be happy and excited about something during a time where it was so difficult to find happiness in things. It had been three days since they’d returned to Earth and so far they’d heard nothing from the people in the bunker, all was silent. Monty wasn’t surprised to see how much the ground had changed since the last time he’d seen it, the death wave had really lived up to its name. The ground was almost unrecognisable, apart from one patch of green everything else still looked dead. Monty had travelled the short distance from their camp to the stream to collect water and when he reached the waters edge, he crouched down. Reaching out a hand, he allowed the water to run over his skin, the coolness of the liquid welcome against the warm skin of his hand. Despite everything that had happened on earth, despite all that he’d lost on the planet, he’d missed it… Even if it wasn’t how he remembered it.
He took a moment to fill the bottle that he’d brought with him before he got to his feet once again. Hesitating by the stream to make sure that he’d fastened the lid securely, that’s when he heard somebody call his name. The voice made him look up immediately, although it was a familiar voice, it was one that he hadn’t heard in six years, it was the voice of a ghost. At first he thought he was imagining things, he thought it was an hallucination brought on by the familiarity of earth and by the memories that lay in the back of his mind that had been brought to the surface by their return but then he saw her. She looked different, older than he remembered but time did that to people.
She ran to him and then her arms were around him, squeezing him in a hug and the breath caught in his throat. Momentarily he froze, unable to believe that it was actually her, that she was actually here and breathing and alive. Then his arms wrapped around her back and he was hugging her, clinging to her as he was scared that if he let her go then she’d simply disappear again. “You’re alive” he finally managed to get the words out without releasing her from the hug “I thought- We thought you were dead” his voice shook in places as he spoke. They’d spent all those years believing that she was dead, they’d mourned for a friend that they’d long believed was dead and now she was standing there with him and she was hugging him and she was real. Then the realisation of what that meant sank in, they’d left her behind and she’d been left alone to die on a dying planet, he didn’t know how she was even alive but at that moment that didn’t matter. “Clarke, I’m so sorry” he mumbled, finally pulling back from her so that he could look at her face again. Monty couldn’t help the smile that appeared on his face despite the tears that stung at his eyes as he looked at the face that would forever be etched into his memory. She was different but also the same and he was so so happy to see her again.Clarke Griffin

Monty didn’t know what to do, there was nothing that he could say to calm Isaiah down, nothing he could do to reassure him because his people were dead, his whole family was dead. Everyone he cared about, they were just gone and he hadn’t even had the chance to say goodbye. Monty realised that the glass separating them might be a positive thing, he doubted that Isaiah wanted to be anywhere near him after hearing what he’d done. Nothing would excuse his actions because if he’d done nothing then Isaiah’s people would still be alive. It might have cost him his life and the lives of all of his people, but the mountain people would get to live. There had been no right choice, either way, people would have lost their lives… Monty had just chosen to save his own people instead of Iah’s.
Isaiah was talking but his questions seemed to be rhetorical. Rhetorical or not, Monty didn’t answer him. He didn’t answer him because he didn’t know what to say to him, there was nothing he could say because nothing that he said would make things right. He couldn’t bring back the dead and he couldn’t travel back in time to change what he’d done. “Isaiah-” he started but immediately faltered, he didn’t know how to finish that sentence. Iah had once been one of the easiest people for Monty to talk to, he made the words come easy but now he was one of the hardest. Then Isaiah did speak to him directly and his words stung, Monty looked down at his feet, unable to look at Iah when he was the reason that he was hurting so much and would now have to live the rest of his life without his friends and family around him. He didn’t blame Iah for not wanting him to speak, Monty wouldn’t blame him if he hated him for what he’d done because he knew that if he was in Isaiah’s position then he’d hate whoever had killed his people and taken his friends away from him.
Monty looked up as he heard Isaiah’s sobbing intensify, concern for the man prickling in his chest and he shifted uncomfortably. He’d never seen Isaiah cry like that, he didn’t think he’d ever seen him cry at all before that day, he’d been so happy in Mount Weather and it was painful to think that he might not be that happy ever again. Monty wiped at the moisture on his cheeks as he watched Isaiah get to his feet, for a moment he thought that he might fall again, but he remained on his feet. “ I have one question I need you to answer” Isaiah spoke to him, meeting his eyes and Monty resisted the urge to look away as fresh tears stung his eyes. Of course he would answer any questions that the man had for him, it was the very least that he could do. Then the question came and Monty was left standing there, surprised that that was even a question that Isaiah needed to ask. “What?” he asked, his voice barely audible as it cracked with emotion. Isaiah deserved an answer, even if the answer was fairly obvious to Monty, it obviously wasn’t to Iah. “I couldn’t let you die!” Monty answered him, his voice wavering slightly as he spoke, the thought of having to watch him die was too much.
It was painful for him to hear Isaiah speak to him like that, like he didn’t believe that the feelings Monty had for him were genuine. “I do care about you Iah” he muttered, unable to stop stray tears from leaking from his eyes, but he quickly wiped them from his face. “I didn’t want to do it, if there was any other way then I would have taken it” he didn’t want it to seem like he was trying to excuse his actions but he had to explain, he had to. “But there wasn’t and I could see my friends chained up, screaming in pain as they were strapped to a table and their bones were drilled into… That pain, it’s excruciating, I couldn’t do nothing!” he clenched his hands up into fists, not even caring when he felt his fingernails begin to bite into his palms. “But I never wanted to hurt you Iah, I just needed them to stop” there wasn’t much he could say, it probably just sounded like he was making up more meaningless excuses and that’s not what Monty wanted. “I just… I couldn’t leave you there to die, if I lost you-” he choked back a sob as more tears fell, he was unable to stop them as he thought about how he could have lost him. If he hadn’t been able to get to him… “I love you” the words almost got lodged in his throat as he spoke them, they were words that he knew he probably shouldn’t be saying, the man behind the glass probably didn’t even want to hear them but he said them anyway. If Isaiah never wanted to see him again then Monty would understand, he just had to make sure Iah knew how he felt… Even if he chose not to believe him. Isaiah Riggs

Monty hadn’t expected her to accept his reason for staying, it’s not like he’d expected her to run and get her things together once he’d told her why he was there. Harper had made it pretty clear that she didn’t want to go with him and the others to the bunker, that was her choice but he didn’t need to like it and he definitely didn’t accept it. He’d thought about respecting her decision, but he couldn’t bring himself to leave without her and Jasper. He couldn’t lose anyone else, he wasn’t strong enough… He didn’t feel strong enough to do that.
He followed Harper’s gaze when she looked away from him and noticed that Jasper was now standing with the others. “Yeah… Well, you chose wrong” he told her, shrugging his shoulders half-heartedly. It was hard to act as if their decision hadn’t pissed him off, even just a little bit. They’d decided to leave him, he didn’t want to sound selfish, but that’s what would happen if they died. He’d be left alone, they were the closest thing he had to family left and they’d decided to just die when they had a chance to live. “You could have chosen life” he muttered, it seemed like an easy choice to make, life or death, but some people still managed to make what Monty thought was the wrong choice. “You have a chance to live and you’re just going to throw it away” he said, turning to look at her once again “this isn’t like you Harper, you’re a fighter” or at least, she used to be. From what he’d seen recently, Harper didn’t seem too interested in fighting.
It scared him to think that he might have to leave her behind, to leave everyone in Arkadia behind because if it came down to it, he would leave without them. If he failed in trying to persuade them to come with him, then he would leave for Polis, he wasn’t about to wait around and get himself killed waiting for them when they weren’t interested in following. “We’ll see” he answered her, a small smile appearing on his face “at least you know I’m here if you do need a driver” maybe he was just clinging onto false hope that she’d see sense and change her mind, but at least he was there if someone needed him anyway. If they did decide to try the bunker, then he could at least do something useful and get them there.
He was grateful when she sat beside him, it meant that she planned on hanging around, at least for a short while. When she offered him her cup, he hesitated slightly, weighing the possible consequences up in his mind. They had a few days, there was still stuff he needed to do but he had time and if he didn't drink then there was a chance that Harper would grow annoyed with him pressuring her to change her mind and walk away. How would he persuade her to come with him if she didn't want to speak with him. So, he reached and took the cup from her outstretched hand "thanks" he muttered his appreciation before taking a sip. He wouldn't drink much, he could afford one drink, but that was all that he would allow himself.

When he saw the smile on Clarke’s face in response to his joke, he smiled back at her, glad that he’d at least managed to make her smile and it made him wonder how long it’d been since the last time she’d genuinely smiled at something. Then he watched her reach out to him and felt her light touch on his arm and he let out a breath. He hadn’t realised how much he’d missed talking to her and how much he’d missed just seeing her around and having the option to go to her for advice or when he just needed some reassurance that things were going to be alright. “Would it be alright… If I gave you a hug?” he asked her hesitantly, he didn’t want to make her feel uncomfortable or overstep, it had been a while.
“Yeah… Takes time” he muttered, they needed time to recover and heal. Monty just wished that it didn’t take such a long time, maybe his thoughts were selfish but he’d learnt first hand that things could get quite lonely without his best friend by his side. Maybe things would be better now that Clarke was back, even if she still needed time to heal too. “Yeah… Sorry we didn’t believe you about… Y’know” he apologised, smiling sheepishly as he looked down at his lap. His smile broadened though at the mention of chocolate cake and he looked up to her once again “do you think we could?!” he asked her eagerly “the chocolate cake was amazing! I can’t believe you didn’t even try it!” the chocolate cake had been one of his favourite things about Mount Weather and was now one of the only things he missed about it.Clarke Griffin

Arkadia was almost empty, save for the few that had decided to remain behind because they were too scared to carry on fighting. That’s how Monty saw it anyway, he’d watched everyone else leave the place that had become their home after they’d escaped Mount Weather all those months ago and although he knew that he should be leaving with them, he’d been forced to stay. He couldn’t leave Arkadia, not when two of the people he cared about most in the world had stubbornly decided to stay put. How could he possibly leave them to die whilst he and the rest of their people went to live safely in a bunker for the next five years? He almost expected this of Jasper, his brother hadn’t been himself in what felt like forever but it had taken him by surprise when Harper had told him that she wasn’t going to Polis with them. Now they were running out of time and everyone around him was drinking and seemed to be enjoying themselves but Monty couldn’t, he couldn’t just sit back and drink himself into a stupor, not when there was somewhere for them to go, somewhere that could save them. As far as he was concerned, they’d come too far to just give up now, it was just a shame that not everyone shared his views.
Choosing to stay behind had been hard, but he didn’t think he’d be able to live the rest of his life knowing that he’d left people that he loved behind. His gaze swept the room and locked with Harper’s briefly, she was standing on the opposite side of the room with a small group of people, she was laughing and drinking like the others but as soon as she noticed him staring she quickly averted her gaze. He looked down to his lap as he bounced one knee agitatedly and when he looked up again, he noticed that Harper was no longer standing in the same place that she had been just moments before. Monty began to look around the room, trying to be as subtle as possible with his searching but by the time he located the young woman again, she was making her way towards him.
Harper stopped in front of him and he heard her ask him why he was there, he would’ve thought that the answer to that was obvious, at least, it was to him. “I’m here for when you change your mind, when you all change your minds” he answered her, despite knowing that she’d probably just shoot the idea down and tell him that she wasn’t going to change her mind about this. “I wasn’t going to leave you and Jasper behind” that just wasn’t an option for him. If they weren’t in the bunker when the death wave hit then they’d all be dead, he didn’t want that but he wasn’t prepared to leave people to die, not when there was a chance that they could change their minds. “ Somebody has to stay sober and I don’t see anyone else volunteering” he shrugged at her next question, everyone else in Arkadia seemed content with drinking themselves to death, he was the only one who was currently willing to stay sober. “Besides, if I got drunk then there’d be no one left to drive you to Polis when you change your mind” he explained, forcing a smile as he gestured to a seat beside him, hoping that she’d accept the invitation to sit with him.Harper McIntyre

Monty was relieved to hear a knock on his door because whenever somebody called it was almost guaranteed to be Jasper and spending the day with his best friend was always better than spending it alone. Getting up from his place on the couch, he made his way towards the door but when he opened it, he was surprised to find that Jasper wasn’t alone. There was another young man with him, he knew enough about him to put a name to his face, but Monty couldn’t say that he’d spent a considerable amount of time trying to get to know him. He knew that his dad was a guard and that gave him enough of a reason to avoid him for the most part, so he was confused about why Jasper would bring him to his home. “Er yeah, my parents are out” he confirmed when Jasper asked him if he was alone, although his friend had already stepped inside. He waited until both men were inside before closing the door behind them, it wasn’t often that Jasper brought somebody with him when he called and when he did, Monty could almost guarantee that they wouldn’t be related to any guardsmen.“A new business partner?” Monty asked skeptically as he eyed Miller, he would have appreciated it if Jasper had given him a heads up so that he could be prepared instead of just turning up at his door with a guy that he introduced as their new business partner. Monty thought that he had a right to be suspicious of the new development, at least when it was just him and Jasper, the risks of getting caught were fairly minimal, they trusted each other and things ran smoothly. “Can we trust him?” he asked as he crossed his arms and dipped his head in Miller’s direction. He trusted Jasper and he knew that he wouldn’t risk everything by bringing somebody in who he didn’t trust completely but Monty was annoyed about being left out of the loop.Nathan Miller@jasper420

Monty could see the confusion on Isaiah’s face and he could understand the fear that he was feeling at waking up in a strange place without any of his people in sight to lend him comfort. Monty had experienced that same fear when he’d first woken in Mount Weather’s quarantine facility, only Monty’s own fear had been eliminated when he was reunited with his friends, Isaiah would have no such relief. Monty knew that he was going to destroy Isaiah’s whole world and before he told him what had happened to his people, it was like it had never happened and Monty wished that it could stay that way. He wanted to shelter the other man from the knowledge for as long as possible, because while he remained clueless, he could be happy and he could have hope for the future but he couldn’t stay in the airlock forever and it wasn’t fair for Monty to want to keep him in the dark about the fate of his people, if roles were reversed he knew that he’d want to know.
The expression on Isaiah’s face when he heard that he could go outside was priceless, the brief smile that appeared on his face was almost enough to make Monty smile as well, because he was happy and excited and Monty didn’t know when he’d next see that smile after he told him what had happened. “Yes, you can go outside… Soon” he promised trying to keep his voice steady even though he knew that it was probably obvious that something was upsetting him. A smile worked its way onto his face but the effort to keep it there proved to be too much and it soon disappeared again “once we’re sure that it’s safe” the last thing that he wanted was for them to open the doors too early, even if it killed him to have to talk to his boyfriend through a window of glass, it was better than watching somebody that he loved die from being exposed to radiation before he developed an immunity to it.
Knowing that he’d gotten Isaiah’s hopes up by telling him that he would soon be allowed to go outside for the first time in his life made Monty regret leading with that information. Although, he supposed that it wouldn’t make much difference to how Isaiah took the news, but now he would have to crush him after he’d received news that actually made him happy. He hated himself for giving the other man hope that everything was okay, it was anything but okay and soon he would know just how screwed up everything had gotten. Then when he finally forced himself to speak the words that he’d been leading up to, he couldn’t bring himself to look at Isaiah. He only forced himself to look at the other man again when he heard the sound of that first sob that escaped him, it made his heart ache and the sound of his cries made him wish that he could do something, anything to comfort him and make him stop hurting but he knew that was not possible. Isaiah had just been told that everybody that he knew, everybody that he loved was dead and Monty had betrayed him by enabling that to happen, Monty didn’t even know if Isaiah would want him to stay after what he’d learnt.
When Isaiah fell, Monty unthinkingly moved forwards, momentarily forgetting about the glass that separated them but he promptly remembered the inconvenient barrier. It was frustrating, seeing and hearing the man that he loved in so much pain but having to watch him suffer from behind a window. It brought tears to Monty’s own eyes, he chewed on his bottom lip in an attempt to stop himself from crying. He’d made a decision that involved hacking into the system to allow the irradiation of the mountain, he knew what would happen to the residents of mount weather if the decision was made to pull the lever and yet he still did it. The words that Isaiah spoke to him hurt, he wasn’t going to deny that ‘you’re not sorry. You wouldn’t have done it’ he said and it left Monty at a loss for what to say.
He couldn’t just apologise and expect everything to be forgiven, he knew that. He had assisted in killing everyone that Isaiah knew, his family and his friends were all gone now and it was because of him. However, the words still stung “what do you want me to say?” Monty questioned him, quickly wiping a tear from his cheek as it fell “I had to save my friends, if we’d done nothing then they’d all be dead now” he knew that he’d likely be dead as well, but that didn’t matter at that moment, he wasn’t thinking about himself when he’d made the decision that would lead to the deaths of the residents of mount weather, he was thinking about the people that he could see waiting to be slaughtered. “I didn’t want to hurt anyone, I never wanted to hurt you but it was the only way for us to save our friends” he didn’t expect Isaiah to understand why they had done it, even if he spent hours explaining it to him, Monty doubted that he’d understand. He just needed to explain even if it did more harm than good and even if Iah ended up hating him for it.

Monty smiled at her comment and the sound of her laughter "naked hugs are great... Just not with my brother" he thought he was going to go blind when faced with seeing Jasper in the shower. There was nothing wrong with Jasper, it's just he didn't need to see that, everyone else was welcome to get an eye full as long as he never had to see it again. He just wanted to sleep, preferably without images of naked hugs with Jasper invading his dreams and he was deeply concerned about that being a real possibility when they were talking about it just before they intended to go to sleep. When Harper told him that he was glad that Raven had sent him to rest, he let out a sigh "I'm not, we haven't got time to sleep" they would have, the hydro generator would have bought them plenty of time to sleep but now the thought of sleeping gave Monty a sense of dread, like maybe they were wasting too much time on sleeping and not spending enough time trying to figure out a way to save everyone. He loved going to bed at night with Harper lying next to him and he'd hate to give that up for anything but they'd have all the time in the world to spend sleeping once they'd figured out how to survive past the six months that they'd been given.
He didn't notice the smile fade from her face until after she'd spoken again and her hand had slipped from his and she was telling him that they hadn't made the wrong call. Monty searched her face, looking for any sign that she didn't really believe what she was saying but found nothing. "Do you actually think it was a good call to use our one shot at saving our people to save a few people who will all be dead in six months anyway?" he argued, it was a difficult situation but the fact still remained that they'd chosen to free a few people instead of saving their whole community. "We could have found them again! We're allied with Azgeda, their king could have freed the slaves himself, what happened to talking to him? You were all for that before you found out they were being moved" it wouldn't have been ideal to leave them there knowing how brutal Azgeda could be but it would have been their best chance at freeing them whilst still having the means to make water so that all of their people could stay alive.
"Exactly! We have six months!" Monty raised his voice louder as he spoke "six months to figure out how to save our people, those slaves were fine, as long as the grounders still had a use for them they'd be okay!" it wasn't complicated, the grounders obviously needed slaves, they weren't going to kill people that they needed, even if their living conditions weren't great, they'd still have time to negotiate their release with the king if they'd left with the machine when they had the chance. "Six months isn't a lot of time! I'm sorry, freeing a few people from the grounders might have been a priority a few months ago but now we have to look at the bigger picture, if we make sacrifices like this every time we see somebody in need then there will be nobody left in six months to save" it was the hard truth, he just needed her to see that. He wasn't saying anything with the intentions of making her mad, he just needed her to understand the severity of the situation and how their actions that day had made things ten times worse.

Monty felt his heart break when Isaiah approached the glass and pressed his hands against the window that separated them. Monty resisted the urge to step closer to the glass, he wanted to be close to the other man but right now it was his job to give him answers. Answers that were going to hurt him and Monty never wanted to hurt him but he had... By enabling the irradiation of his home and subsequently the murder of all of his friends and family that lived there. Monty blinked away the tears that he could feel forming in his eyes when he thought about how he was going to tell Isaiah the truth and he cleared his throat "I asked them not to tell you" he explained, his voice sounded shaky as he fought to keep his emotions under control because this wasn't the time to cry. He felt guilty for what he had done and he felt pain at knowing what it was going to do to the man that was standing in front of him, he cared about him so much, he loved him and he was about to tell him that he'd enabled the murder of everyone that he cared about and saved him but hadn't bothered to save anyone else."I wanted to be the one to tell you, I didn't want you hearing from anybody else" he could see the tears in Iah's eyes and he already knew that this was going to be the worst thing that he'd ever had to tell someone. What could be worse than hearing that your whole family had been killed "you're in Camp Jaha, it's where my people live and the airlock is what's keeping you alive, if you left that room now then the radiation would kill you... It's why you're locked away and why I can't-" he placed an unsteady hand on the glass and he was painfully aware at how reluctant Isaiah seemed to be to look at him "being in there would hurt you... And I never want to hurt you" he finished his previous sentence, all the while knowing that what he'd helped to do would hurt his boyfriend more than anything else, even the radiation that would kill him if he left the airlock. "You'll be able to leave soon though, the needle in your arm... I donated the bone marrow that will keep you alive once it's had time to take effect" that had been the easiest decision he'd ever had to make, choosing to save Isaiah, he could not watch him die. He couldn't imagine making the decision that he had if Iah had been among the dead.
Now came the hardest part of this conversation and he knew that it was only going to be downhill from there "your family isn't here" he told him, his voice shaking as he looked at the ground, he wasn't able to meet his gaze, he knew that he owed him as much as to look him in the eyes when he told him that he'd helped to murder his family but he couldn't do it. He couldn't watch his words destroy the person that he cared about the most in the world at that moment "...We had to make a decision, your president was killing our people, torturing them by drilling into their bones to get to the bone marrow that would enable them to leave the mountain and they would have died" he began to explain, the words coming slowly from his mouth, knowing that every word that left his mouth would lead him closer to telling Iah the truth. "It was either your people, or ours... I hacked into the system and made it possible for my friends to irradiate your home, everyone you knew... Everyone you cared about, they're gone, I'm so sorry" he was sorry for everything, for killing those innocent people, for not being smart enough to think of another way and he was sorry that Isaiah had to hear all of this and had to live through the pain of knowing that everyone he knew was gone.Isaiah Riggs

Monty was frustrated, they were trying to save people but again they'd ended up doing the opposite, freeing the slaves from Azgeda might have seemed like it was the right thing to do, but Monty knew otherwise, when Bellamy had asked him if they could build another machine, he'd told him no. Even with Raven, there was no other way for them to make water and they'd still voted to destroy it in order to save a few people. Now they had to figure out a way for them to save all of their people, like Clarke had promised and so far they'd drawn a blank as to how they were going to do that. The hydro generator had been their best bet and Monty would be the first one to say that the others had made the wrong choice, they could have freed the slaves another way but there was no way of getting the destroyed machine back. He knew why Harper had voted in favour of freeing the slaves, he knew that it reminded her of her time spent locked up in Mount Weather, she'd confirmed as much but the situation was different and the slaves weren't in any danger while they remained useful to the grounders.
He couldn't avoid her forever and the moment he'd started to yawn, he'd been sent away and told to rest up so that they could revisit the issue tomorrow. He wasn't happy about it, every day counted when they had six months to live and no longer had the machine that they needed, but he hadn't argued. He had expected Harper to be asleep, it was late and they'd had a long day and she really had no reason to wait up for him. However, the first thing he saw when he walked through the door into their room was her standing there, apparently waiting for him to return home. It brought a smile to his face to see her, especially when the first thing she did when she saw him was step forward and pull him into a hug. Monty held onto her for a fraction longer than he needed to before pulling away and laughing at what he assumed was a joke "No... I never want to see him naked again" he told her, unable to keep the laughter out of his voice "I was trying to help Raven think of another way to save everyone without the hydro generator" he admitted, knowing that she'd voted against bringing it back "she told me to go get some rest" that was the only reason he'd left when he had because he was painfully aware of how little time they had to think of an alternative method of saving their people.
When he felt her hand slide into his, he gave it a soft squeeze "I don't know how we're supposed to save everybody, we can't build another machine... Raven's smart but even that is beyond her" if he thought that there was another way to save everyone, Monty might have been more willing to blow the machine up and save the slaves, but he'd spent hours wracking his brains and still failed to think of something that was half as good as their first place. "We made the wrong call" he said we, he meant they. Himself and Miller had wanted to take the machine back, but the others had said no, they'd voted and the majority had voted to free the slaves and it was as simple as that. "You should be sleeping" he mumbled, nodding to the bed that they shared "it's been a long day, you must be tired" he knew that he was and he wanted nothing more than to crawl into bed and sleep for a couple of months, but he'd have to be satisfied with a few hours of rest before he was expected to get up again in the morning.

Monty woke with a jolt as he realised that somebody was shaking him by the shoulder and for a second he didn't know where he was. It looked like the ark but he knew that they'd been on earth for a while now, there was no way that they were back home. That's when he remembered the events of the past couple of days, he remembered being put in a cage and Harper screaming in pain as they forcefully extracted her bone marrow and then he remembered being almost rescued before being locked up again. He remembered everything, including enabling Clarke and Bellamy to pull the lever that would irradiate the mountain and kill every mountain person that was not immune to the radiation. However, before that he remembered drugging Isaiah and forcing him into a hazmat suit that would save his life, he'd had help with that, Iah was a big guy and Monty didn't think that he'd be able to get him into that suit on his own. Suddenly his mind seemed to wake up and he noticed the woman that had been shaking him and he remembered the reason why she must have been waking him "how long?" he asked, suddenly wide awake despite the heaviness of sleep that still held him back "two hours" at that he got to his feet and was already on his way to the airlock as he called "I told you to wake me as soon as he woke up!" it was frustrating, because he knew that all he wanted was to be there for Isaiah when he woke so that he could explain everything and now he found out that they'd waited two hours before realising that it was probably a good idea to come and find him.
He'd grown closer to Isaiah in Mount Weather, every day they'd eaten together (with Monty eating his usual helping of chocolate cake) and they'd learnt a lot about each other. Monty discovered that they both knew a lot about farming, although Iah was definitely a lot more passionate about it than he was and perhaps one of the cuter things that Monty had learnt about the other man was his habit of listening to old pop songs when he thought no one was around to hear. He'd caught the mountain man listening to some old music that he couldn't say he was particularly fond of once and after persistent questioning, had forced the other man to tell him what that was all about. After several weeks of eating together, Monty finally plucked up the courage to ask the other man out on a date. Isaiah had been so surprised when he'd asked him and it almost didn't matter that Monty had no idea what sort of things counted as 'date-worthy' in the mountain because the expression on his face was worth it even if he got rejected. Fortunately Isaiah accepted the invitation and Monty had been left to hurriedly explain that he hadn't thought that far ahead because he'd felt sure that the only answer he was going to receive would be a firm 'no'.
As he walked down to hall, he thought about everything that he was going to have to explain to his boyfriend and how much might have actually been explained to him. He'd made it clear that he wanted to be the one to tell Iah what had happened but it had been two hours, there was no telling what had happened in the time that he'd been sleeping. He rounded the corner and the airlock came into sight and Monty felt himself speed up a little in an attempt to get there faster and then he could see him. It felt wrong to lock him up, especially after everything that had happened to himself and his friends in Mount Weather but he kept telling himself that this was different, this was to protect him, until he became immune to the radiation and was able to step outside without dying... Like everybody else in the mountain. He stopped in front of the glass, it was a barrier that allowed him to see the other man but made it so that he couldn't touch him or offer him any kind of physical comfort and Monty hadn't anticipated how infuriating that was going to be. "Hey..." he greeted Iah cautiously, unsure about how much he knew and how he was going to react to him being there "what have they told you?" he knew that it would be cruel if they had left him for two hours, refusing to give him any information about where he was and why he was there but then, he'd told them not to... He'd told them to fetch him at the first signs that he was waking up, so that he could be the one to explain to him what they'd done.

"Of course you did, I'm awesome" Monty replied to her saying that she'd missed him, he was trying to crack a joke in a weak attempt at lightning the mood and cheering her up. After everything that had happened in Mount Weather and isolating herself from everyone in Arkadia, Monty figured that she needed somebody to be there for her and try to cheer her up, if that was even possible. Monty at least had some idea about what she was going through and how she felt, killing all of those people in Mount Weather wasn't something that could just be forgotten. They'd wiped out a whole community, it had been to save their people but that didn't make it right and it didn't mean that they could just move on without any feelings of guilt or regret because most of the people in the mountain had been innocent and it was impossible for them to deny that. "I'm glad that you're back" he hoped that she was back, he hoped that she wasn't going to run back into isolation as soon as he left her side, because he needed her, her friends needed her and he believed that she needed them too.
"Yeah..." Monty muttered after listening to what Clarke had to say, if they'd had guards with them when they'd initially been sent down to earth then things might have worked out much differently. It was possible that more of them would be alive and if they'd had the means to communicate with Mount Weather then they might not have ever had to go through the hell that they had. They wouldn't have had to kill all of those people and they wouldn't have had to watch their friends being dragged from their room one at a time to be murdered for their bone marrow. When she asked about the others, Monty forced a smile "the others are fine, much better now that they're back here, nobody is completely over what happened but they're getting there" he told her, trying to update her on the others in a way that wouldn't make her worry "Jasper still needs time to heal but he'll be okay" that was a lie, Jasper hadn't spoken to him since Mount Weather... At least, he hadn't said anything worth thinking about and Monty had no idea if Jasper would be okay or if he'd ever be able to forgive him for making the call to enable Bellamy and Clarke to irradiate Mount Weather, but so far it didn't look like he was willing to forgive. Monty couldn't just forget about what had happened in Mount Weather, every day he thought about the people that they'd killed when they'd made the decision to irradiate the mountain. Walking into the mess hall where the citizens of Mount Weather had gathered, it was impossible not to look at the bodies, he'd recognised some of the dead, he’d seen them around and he’d even spoken to a few of them and then he’d helped to kill them. He hadn’t really been that close to anyone in Mount Weather but they were all real people with families and lives and they’d just ended those lives so easily, they’d wiped out a whole community of people. He knew that it was the only way to save their people, to save his friends and that’s why he had agreed to do it.
Of course, he hadn’t been the only one in that room, he hadn’t been the only one making the decision to irradiate the mountain, Clarke and Bellamy had been there too and he’d expected both of them to return to Camp Jaha after they left Mount Weather but Clarke was gone, she’d left without even an explanation of where she was going or why she was going, Monty assumed that it was her method of coping with what had happened at Mount Weather but he didn’t understand why she’d left when she had a whole support system in Camp Jaha. She had people that she could talk to and who knew what she was going through but instead of talking to them, she’d turned her back on them. Monty remembered hugging her outside the gates of Camp Jaha with the expectation of seeing her later that day but instead he’d heard that she was gone. They didn’t even know if she was going to come back.
It was late, Monty hadn’t expected to see anyone else awake and so when he heard somebody enter the Hangar, he raised his head from where he’d been staring at his feet and froze, listening to what the other person was doing. He suspected that it was just a guard, he expected them to poke their head in briefly before leaving, if he was lucky they wouldn’t notice him and he’d be left alone. He wasn’t lucky however and it wasn't long before he heard footsteps approaching his hiding place that signalled that he’d been spotted and he was about to have company. He angled his head to look up at whoever it was that was about to discover him hiding there and was surprised when he saw that it was Bellamy. ‘Want some company?’ the other man asked him and Monty hesitated slightly before he shuffled over a little and patted the space on the floor beside him, inviting Bellamy to join him. Monty considered Bellamy a close friend and he owed him a lot, he was the person that had risked his own life to get them out of Mount Weather and Monty knew that Bellamy was probably the reason why he was still alive, he didn’t know how they would have been able to escape without Bellamy on the inside to aid them.
Bellamy hadn’t left them after returning to Camp Jaha, like Clarke had and that comforted Monty to know that he at least had somebody to talk to. Somebody that knew what had happened and why it had happened and wouldn’t judge him for making the call to enable the irradiation of the mountain because Bellamy had been there and he’d pulled the lever with Clarke, he’d made that call too and he had to live with it. “Some company would be great” he confirmed, lowering his gaze back to his feet as he waited for the other man to sit “I didn’t expect to see anyone down here” while it was unlikely that he was the only one in Camp Jaha that was having difficulty sleeping, Monty hadn’t expected to run into anyone, it was unlikely and he’d tried to conceal himself to avoid anyone approaching him. Still, there were a select few people that he wouldn’t mind finding him at that moment and Bellamy was one of them, he couldn’t turn his friend away from him after everything he’d done, especially when Bellamy was one of the few people in Camp Jaha that knew how he was feeling.
