"I guess I'll just have to make more friends here" Monty mentioned casually, deciding that he'd quite like to get to know Isaiah better once they parted ways after their trip to agriculture. Maybe he could even show him how they had fun in the mountain when boredom threatened to get the best of them. "Are they even your friends if they don't drag you into trouble with them?" he asked, unable to hide his smile as he recalled just how many times he'd been dragged into trouble- and dragged others into some rather sticky situations. He knew that if he and Isaiah became friends they'd probably wind up in their fair share of trouble, it was inevitable- a hazard of befriending him and by extension, Jasper. "You not a stickler for the rules then? At least you sound fun" there was a light, teasing tone to his voice- he was keen to keep things light now, maybe in an effort to redeem himself for his earlier rude behaviour.
Pursing his lips as he thought over the other mans words, he grinned "I mean... That'd be pretty fun to check out, if you wanted to" he suggested, keeping his voice low as he spoke. He didn't mean right that instant, but maybe in future if they wanted to have a little fun, he definitely had a few friends who'd be interested if Isaiah declined the offer. "You only live once, right?" and who wanted to waste time playing it safe when you could be enjoying whatever time you had. Sure, he'd landed himself in lockup the last time he'd tried stealing some pot, but this time he had the assurance that that wouldn't happen if he happened to wind up with some in his possession.
Monty suddenly seemed to realise how close they were to each other, both leaning in to keep their voices low and drew back quickly so that he was sitting once again in his own seat, the space between himself and Isaiah once again an appropriate amount. "Well in that case-" he picked up his fork once again, spearing the last few pieces of cake and shovelling them into his mouth in his eagerness to be taken on the grand tour of the place Isaiah seemed so passionate about. Once he'd swallowed the last of his cake, he got to his feet before realising that his new companion might still be eating "sorry, are you still eating? We can wait until you've finished" he muttered, lowering himself back down into his seat. Maybe he was eager to see what Isaiah spent his days doing, maybe he was homesick or maybe it was a mixture of both but one thing was for sure, he didn't want to stay seated a moment longer than he had to be. There were so many things that could go wrong with what they had planned, nothing was certain and knowing their luck, nothing would go to plan. All Monty knew was that he had to try and whether he was alone or with Harper, that wouldn't change. His friends would be vulnerable whilst they were sleeping, somebody had to be awake to watch over them- he wasn't sure how nobody had thought of that before. So much could go wrong, someone had to make sure that they all remained asleep and that everyone made it through to the other side alive. Harper had a choice and Monty wouldn't blame her if she changed her mind, if he thought it was is place he'd even tell her to join their friends but only she could make that decision.
"It needs both of us" Monty looked up, meeting Harper's gaze as he allowed for her words to sink in. Part of him wanted to ask her if she was certain that this was what she wanted, but the other part of him- the bigger part of him was just relieved. "You don't-" he began to protest, almost reflexively but stopped himself and instead smiled. "You were always brutally honest with your reviews of my algae" he said instead, a joke... Or a half-hearted attempt at one. Jasper had always been better at making people laugh. "Hey..." he said, watching as the expression on her face changed and she seemed to get choked up at the possibility that things might not work out as they hoped. He reached for her, slipping his hand into hers "we're going to see our friends again" he told her with as much force as he could muster, as if he was trying to convince himself as much as he was her. He wanted to believe that they would see their friends again, because if he didn't believe that that would somehow happen, then he wasn't sure that he could go through with what they had planned.
"Ten years is going to go by so fast" he told her, squeezing her hand gently but even as he said the words he could feel stubborn tears burning at his eyes. They were doing this for their friends, because even if things didn't work out as planned, he hoped that he and Harper could keep them safe. "This isn't how our story ends" they'd been through so much, they deserved a happy ending. "I'm not going anywhere, I promise..." it was a promise that he intended to keep because for as long as she wanted him, then he would be by her side. She wouldn't have to spend a day alone, never again. "I love you, Harper" he said, smiling as he did so because he knew that no matter what happened next, they would have each other and really that's all that mattered.

Trust was something that had to be earned, Monty wasn't quite there yet with Baron. It wasn't easy to trust someone capable of making a group of thugs back off without throwing a single punch. "Same here, believe it or not this isn't my favourite way to spend the evening" being chased through the streets by a group of murderous men, this was the last time he'd be walking home alone after sun down for the foreseeable future. "I didn't think so..." if he hadn't run into Baron then the chances were that he'd have ended up just like that guy in the alley. Would his parents even have a body to bury? Or would he just become another missing kid, an unsolved mystery that no one could solve? "They listened to you... Why?" he asked the older man, he must be pretty important to warrant such respect and to have enough power to get the men to back off without raising a hand to stop them.
Having someone confirm Monty's fears, it somehow made the whole situation more real, more fearful when he thought of someone wanting him dead. He'd never warranted such a threat before, not even from some of the jerks at school "Why would you want to protect me?" what had he done to deserve such an offer "It's not that I'm not grateful, because I am- I just don't understand why my safety should matter to you, you don't even know me" he said, the only people who seemed to care that much about his safety were his parents and they were his parents, it was kind of their job to care about his safety. "You really think those guys will come back?" he asked, unable to hide the concern in his voice because he'd never been more scared than when he was being chased through the streets after watching those men apparently commit murder. When Monty received word that Clarke needed to see him, initially he'd pushed the news aside and made a mental note that he'd track his friend down later that day to see what she wanted with him- until the messenger had grabbed his arm and told her that it was urgent and something about how they spoke to him told him that he couldn't just ignore it. So he'd dropped everything and set off in search of Clarke, he couldn't ignore the uneasy feeling that stirred in the pit of his stomach as he walked towards her room. Why hadn't she come to find him herself? What was so urgent? He'd find out soon, but he couldn't ignore that something just didn't feel right. Approaching her door, he knocked once before slowly entering the room. "Clarke?" he called out softly, her name barely leaving his mouth before his gaze landed on the pile of blankets on the bed.
His friend was barely visible beneath the mountain of blankets that cocooned her, the blankets were drawn right up to her chin- however, her face was clearly visible once he noticed her there. The room was warm and yet, he could clearly see that she was shaking almost as if she was shivering. "Clarke?" he repeated, brow furrowing in confusion as he began to walk towards the bed and towards her and that's when she started talking. As she explained, it all became painfully obvious. He'd seen symptoms like this before, addiction was fairly common on the ark for those without the means to live comfortable lives of privilege- for those that looked to alcohol or drugs to numb themselves. How had he not seen how she was struggling? "Special painkillers?" he asked her, almost feeling numb himself as he spoke to her- the words not really feeling like they were his own. "What kind of painkillers? What are they? What's in them? Where are you getting them?" he questioned her as he came to perch on the edge of her bed.
He studied her with concern, noting the sheen of sweat on her forehead and the desperate look in her eyes "Why do you need my help?" Monty wasn't going to pretend that he'd never made use of recreational drugs, it was practically the reason he and Jasper had been locked up- that alongside his homemade moonshine, it was obvious that he wasn't opposed to a little experimentation and using different substances to withdraw from reality for a while- but Clarke was displaying symptoms of dependency... Addiction. "I can't help you fuel your addiction Clarke, it's not healthy- Do you even know what you're taking? What the long term effects could be?" her actions were concerning, Clarke was usually so level-headed, she didn't do stuff like this "what about going to your mum? See if she can help?" her mum was a doctor, surely there were other, safer ways of managing whatever pain she had "we can help you... Just not like this"

A million thoughts raced through Monty's head, a million 'what ifs?' and it was with a heavy heart that he realised that he was clutching at straws. There was only one way he could ensure nothing went wrong, that his friends were all alright- that they all survived the ten years of cryo sleep. Someone had to stay awake, to watch over them and the only answer that made sense was that that someone had to be him. His background in engineering made him the perfect candidate, he'd be able to make any repairs that needed to be done, make sure all the chambers were functioning properly and that they didn't run into any trouble. He was more than willing to make that sacrifice for his friends, because they had all done so much for him to keep him alive- it was about time he repaid that debt.
Harper would be staying awake too, she'd made it quite clear that she wouldn't leave him to spend the next ten years alone. He was grateful for her unwavering loyalty and if he was honest, he was glad that he wouldn't be left alone, spending the next ten years- or more, without the company of another human was possibly more daunting and unwelcome than the idea of the task of watching over the ships passengers. Still, Monty struggled with the idea of going so long without speaking with a single one of his friends, he told himself that this way, they'd get to live- they'd be safe and they would see each other again. He'd be older when that time came and they'd remain unchanged, time wouldn't touch them while they were sleeping- they'd awake in the ten or so years as young and youthful as the day they climbed into the chambers.
Movement caught his eye and he turned his head just as Harper took her seat beside him. He stared at her for a long moment, at the expression on her face and the way that she hugged her knees to her chest. Falling in love with her had been the best thing that ever happened to him, he never imagined that he'd get so lucky as to have her by his side through everything they'd experienced. He wanted to have her by his side for the next ten years, but perhaps his reasons for that were selfish, he wanted her with him because he loved her and he didn't want to be alone... But were those reasons in her best interest? "...You don't have to do this" he told her, his gaze dropping to look at his hands. "It only needs one of us..." he was offering her an out, telling her that if she didn't want to go through with it then there was still time for her to join the rest of their friends, he wouldn't force her to do anything she didn't truly want, she wasn't obligated to stay with him. He wouldn't blame her if she changed her mind.

Monty was apprehensive at first, not sure if the guard would want to help him or if he thought he was above giving someone directions. However, after a pause the man agreed to help him out, much to Monty's immense relief. "Thank you" he breathed the words out, trying not to make his relief seem too obvious to the guard as he eagerly followed him. It was almost intimidating wandering the halls of the unfamiliar base without someone he recognised by his side- next time he'd make sure to stay around people he knew and trusted. When the guard seemed to recognise him, Monty gave a small smile of acknowledgement "yeah that's me" he muttered, remembering how frightening the whole experience had been until he realised that the mountain men weren't actually a threat to them. "I guess I should thank you for that..." if they hadn't been picked up by the mountain men then he knew that there was a real possibility that he and his friends would have been slaughtered by grounders.
"I got turned around... Thought this was the way to our room, but apparently it's not" he explained himself, picking up on the subtle hint of suspicion in the guards tone. "I guess it's easy to get lost here when you're not used to it" or at least, he hoped it was because he'd somehow managed it. "I'm Monty, by the way" he introduced himself as they walked, figuring that if Mount Weather was to be his home then he had to make an effort to know and get along with the residents.

Random Number Generator Chose: 26. My muse breaks up with yours. Monty walked down the hall, his mind was overcrowded with thoughts and feelings that confused and upset him, because many of the thoughts that entered his mind were unwelcome. He'd been under a lot of pressure in recent days and a lot of that stress emanated from his relationship with Bellamy. Recently his boyfriend had made some questionable decisions, some of those decisions Monty understood, but he couldn't bring himself to agree with them. He understood why Bellamy had assisted Pike in executing the army of grounders but he couldn't pretend that he agreed with those actions. Monty was conflicted, he loved Bellamy but the man that killed those people was not the same man that he'd fallen in love with. He knew that it wasn't just Bellamy that was at fault for that massacre, a number of others had been there too, including Monty's own mother and he'd deal with her later but right now, Bellamy was his focus.
As he entered the room that he shared with his boyfriend, he was surprised to see that Bellamy was already inside, as if he somehow knew that Monty would be looking for him. An involuntary smile appeared upon Monty's face, as it always did whenever he saw the other man but almost immediately it was gone as he remembered why he'd been looking for Bellamy in the first place. "Hey" he greeted, but made no attempt to walk towards the other man "can we talk?" the words were hard to force out, sounding so casual but with so much hidden meaning. Emotions usually got in the way of doing something that needed to be done and this was no exception, but despite the feelings he still held for Bellamy, he wasn't happy with where they were and given how things were progressing in Arkadia, he doubted that would improve any time soon. He had to put himself first, even if that meant doing something painful.Bellamy Blake ooc: Lemme know if you want me to change anything!

"No, no hospital" Monty's reply was instantaneous as soon as the man asked him, his parents were already going to flip when he got home, the last thing he wanted was to make that any worse. His ankle hurt like hell but he didn't think anything was broken, if his opinion changed later he'd go with someone he trusted, not with someone who he suspected of being a murderer. He was still alive though, that was more than he expected- especially given the circumstances, he supposed he should be thankful that the men hadn't killed him yet, although there was still time for that to change, the night was young. When the man introduced himself, Monty continued to watch him distrustfully, he spoke as if he meant him no harm but Monty couldn't bring himself to trust him, not yet after what he'd seen.
"Monty" he uttered his own name in response to Baron's, unsure if such basic information was safe to give out. "Your buddies wanted to help me too, did they?" he asked defensively, help him into an early grave maybe... He didn't want that kind of help. Of course he was scared, before that night he'd never seen a dead body, he hadn't even been to a funeral and now he'd seen a man killed in front of him. "What kind of help are you offering?" he asked unable to keep the suspicion out of his tone, there wasn't a lot he could do but listen to Baron speak but he was seriously beginning to wish that he hadn't been given detention that day.Baron Tseng

Monty was beyond relieved to be reunited with his friend, to find that after all the years they'd spent apart that he was okay. Monty wouldn't be forced to mourn another friend, they'd lost so many people throughout the years, he didn't know what he'd have done if he'd returned to the ground to find that he'd lost Baron too. A smile appeared on his face as he drew back to look at Baron again "you got older" he said, his tone teasing and light. They were all older, no longer the people they'd been when they'd first arrived on Earth all those years ago. So much had changed, including the people they were. "I missed you so much" the words were sincere and held so much affection for the older man, he had so much to say, so much to tell him but not enough time to say it in. At the question, Monty hesitated slightly, the situation was complicated. "Most of us are" he answered truthfully, hoping that Baron wouldn't think less of him and the others for leaving their own behind "It's complicated, we had to leave some people behind... But it's not permanent" as far as he was concerned it wasn't permanent, eventually the rest of his friends would be back on the ground, with the rest of them where they belonged. "How has it been down here?" he asked, not sure if he wanted to hear the answer, considering there were a lot less people in the bunker now than there had been six years ago. Baron Tseng

Random Number Generator Chose: 7. My muse accidentally fatally injures yours. Arkadia had been plunged into chaos the moment news had come that the walls had been breached. The sound of gunfire told Monty that this was not a false alarm and as he ran across the yard, gun in hand, his whole body was rigid with tension. He'd seen grounders kill with such precision that he knew they wouldn't even need to get close to pick them off. It made his heart race, but he couldn't even think of getting himself to safety yet, his priorities were elsewhere. He was searching for one man in particular, someone he'd become separated from in the chaos of the evacuation- his boyfriend. Somehow Monty knew that Nate wouldn't be among the first to evacuate, even if that's the only place Monty wanted him to be in that moment, somewhere he'd be safe and away from the action and the gunfire.
As he ran, his finger instinctively rested on the trigger and the subtle action went unnoticed by the young man who seemed to be more focussed on keeping an eye out for hostiles. He'd seen bodies lying on the ground, casualties of the attack and Monty could only pray that he wouldn't find Nate among them. Then as he rounded a corner, he felt himself collide with another, his finger tightening around the trigger in surprise- the sound of the gunshot rang out and Monty felt hands grab at his arms but they slipped from him, unable to maintain their grip on him. It took the man a moment to realise who it was that his bullet had found and when the realisation sank in, he felt the gun slip from his fingers.
"Nate?! Oh my god!" the words left Monty's mouth involuntarily and as the man fell, he sank to his knees beside him. His hands were shaking and he made no attempt to steady them "you're going to be okay, hold on!" he told him, his tone frantic with worry as he saw the blood that was beginning to stain his boyfriends clothes. Tears began to prickle in his eyes as panic began to set in, he pressed his hands in desperation to the wound in an attempt to stem the bleeding "We're going to get you some help and you'll be fine" he had to believe that he was going to be alright, because he wasn't sure if he could live with knowing that he'd been the one to be to end his life- he wasn't about to lose the man he loved to a bullet from his gun. For the first time, Monty realised that there were other men standing around him and unfortunately for him they all seemed to know each other and that didn't seem like it would be good for him. Every instinct inside him was telling him to run, to get himself away from the situation but the pain in his ankle prevented him from running anywhere, trapping him between the two groups of men. He watched as one of the men stepped forwards and began talking to the two men who'd chased him a foreign language that he didn't recognise. Monty recognised the man as being the one he'd ran into but being unable to understand what was being said only filled the young man with more anxiety. He knew that whatever was being said couldn't be good, especially for him. He'd witnessed a murder, they were probably discussing the best way to dispose of his body.
From the way the man was speaking to the other two, it was clear to Monty that he must be the leader of the group, he spoke with such authority in his voice that Monty thought it should be hard for anyone to disobey him. Then as Monty watched, the two men who'd been chasing him left- although he didn't miss the look they both shot him before they went, it made his blood run cold as he thought of ending up like the man in the alley. However, he wasn't out of the woods yet, at least he didn't think he was, because there were still three men standing around him and he had no idea who they were and what their intentions were. If they were anything like the other two, he didn't think he wanted to be in their company for much longer.
As the leader of the group approached him, Monty felt his whole body stiffen as he kept a hand pressed firmly to the wall to steady himself. However, the words that left his mouth next weren't aggressive or accusatory, they sounded... Concerned? "A little, maybe?" he replied uncertainly, gaze flicking between the man who was talking to him and the two men that hung back behind him. "Who are you? What do you want?" he'd already told their friends that he hadn't seen anything and that was the story he was going to stick to if anybody asked. Baron Tseng

Monty smiled unable to stop himself "I mean, you let me go and bought me a few months" he said, it had bought him a few more months of freedom, a few more months with his family "that makes you good with me" he would have had longer if he'd learnt from his past mistakes and been more careful- or stopped stealing in the first place. "Yeah well, I was never the best at making smart choices" that much was obvious when he'd prioritised getting high with his friends over his freedom when he knew that his actions could get him locked up. "We all make mistakes, mine was getting caught" he joked, trying to make light of the situation, because sometimes that's all that could be done, they couldn't change what had already been done.
He paused when Baron told him that he probably wouldn't find what he was looking for if he made the walk to medical and he felt as though a weight had been placed on his chest, trapping him there. The idea of spending a few more hours lying in bed unable to sleep was nightmarish. "Meditation?" he asked, brow furrowing in confusion, he'd never meditated in his life- the idea of doing so had never entered his mind. "Does that even work?" he'd never known anyone who'd actually meditated before "the meds definitely sound more appealing right now" but apparently being medicated wasn't an option these days, so he'd have to be open to other options, unless he wanted to deal with sleep deprivation. "Well it's a good thing you found me, saved me a wasted journey" he was glad for the company, if he was honest with himself but bringing himself to admit that was another struggle altogether.

Monty wandered the halls of Mount Weather, unsure of where he was heading, he'd thought he was heading in the right direction to end up back in their room but he'd been walking for twenty minutes now and nothing looked familiar. Mount Weather was the safe haven he and the other delinquents had been hoping for, they didn't have to fight for their lives and everyone he'd met so far was friendly and had welcomed him and the others warmly. The only problem was that Monty was finding it extraordinarily easy to get lost within its walls, everything looked the same and although the ark had a similar problem, he'd had the advantage of growing up in that environment. This time, he was a stranger in an unfamiliar location and he was at a disadvantage. Making up his mind to ask the first person he came to for directions, Monty continued to search for something familiar that might tell him where he was and how far off course he'd gone.
Unfortunately, the first person he came to was a man who was dressed in the uniform of a guard and the idea of asking him for directions filled Monty with dread. The guards up on the ark weren't the most predictable and could react violently even without provocation- Monty had seen it happen and so he was initially wary when approaching the guard. "Excuse me-" he began, walking towards the guard and fighting back the anxiety that was building in the back of his mind. "I was wondering if you could point me in the right direction to my room, I'm think I'm lost" his words were polite, his tone light and friendly so that there was no way that he might be misunderstood or mistaken for being hostile. Hopeful that here were different to the ones he was used to.

Monty walked along the empty street, bag slung over one shoulder and earphones placed to blare music that was too loud into his ears, blocking out the noise of the city. The sun had already begun to set by the time he'd left school that evening, detention once again delaying his plans and forcing him to walk home alone. He was in no hurry to get home, reluctant to hear the inevitable lecture that he'd receive from his parents that he'd be ambushed with the moment he walked through the door. His pace was slow and deliberate and he wasn't paying too much attention to his surroundings, so it was only by chance that a flicker of movement in his peripheral vision made him turn to look down the alley. Initially Monty wasn't sure what he was looking at, but as he pulled his earphones out, it became immediately apparent that the music had hidden he truth of what he was looking at. Two men had a third pinned up against the wall and were talking in hushed, harsh voices, Monty couldn't quite make out what was being said but he was certain that the conversation wasn't a friendly one.
It was hard to decipher exactly what disagreement the men must've had but Monty was sure that it must be serious to warrant the level of aggression that he was witnessing in the confrontation. Then suddenly there was a sickening crack and the man who'd been pinned against the wall crumpled to the floor. It took a second for Monty to realise what had happened, had they just killed that man? That's what it looked like. He stood frozen in place for a moment, unable to move- until he saw two pairs of eyes turn to glare at him. That was enough to prompt him to move and before either man had a chance to take a step in his direction he was running. He didn't care what direction he was running in, he didn't even have a chance to decide before his legs began to carry him away from the potentially deadly situation.
It wasn't long before he heard the sound of heavy footsteps pounding on the pavement behind him, telling him that the men had given chase. Panic entered Monty's mind briefly as he thought of what might happen if he was caught, would he end up dead, like the man in the alley? Probably. In an effort to lose his pursuers, he turned a corner sharply but the moment he did so he collided with something- or someone and was knocked from his feet. He would've ordinarily apologised to whoever he'd been unfortunate enough to collide with, but considering current circumstances, the first thing he did was scramble for his backpack before attempting to get to his feet. However, the moment he tried to stand a bolt of pain shot through his ankle and brought an involuntary cry of pain from his mouth.
His first thought was that he'd hurt his ankle when he fell, his second thought was about how screwed he was now that he didn't stand a chance in hell of outrunning the men who were chasing him when he could barely put weight on his foot. Using the nearby wall for support, he dragged himself to his feet, attempting to keep most of his weight off of his sore ankle. By now he was aware that both men had caught up with him, but for some reason they had yet to make a grab for him "I didn't see anything!" he said, a hint of desperation in his tone as he turned to look at the two men who'd chased him this far, knowing that they knew exactly how much he'd seen. "Yeah, no... Meeting you wasn't something I forgot in a hurry" considering he'd almost been arrested the first time he'd bumped into Baron the first time. Still, apparently the close call hadn't been enough to deter him from breaking the law again and landing him in the skybox. "Oh yeah, the day I met you, I was totally stealing... I lied, I'm sorry" he admitted, even though he was fairly sure that Baron could've worked that one out for himself after he'd been arrested. Monty didn't have a great track record for making good decisions, continuing to steal after almost being caught was a great example of that. There were a number of others, some fresh wounds that were best left untouched at that moment.
"I was actually on my way to medical" Monty said, gesturing in the direction that he'd been heading and started a slow walk in that direction. "I was hoping they'd have something to help me sleep" because there was nothing worse than lying awake at night, alone with your thoughts after everything that had happened in recent days. He'd rather just sleep. "Where were you going? It's pretty late for a walk" he asked in curiosity, but then if sleep was hard to find there wasn't a ton else you could do but walk in an effort to find it.
