There was something about Isaiah being a farmer that appealed to Monty, maybe it was the fact that he’d grown up among farmers. Maybe the man reminded him of the people back on farm station that he’d grown up with and thought of affectionately and maybe talking to a farmer again made him feel closer to his parents, because he didn’t know if he’d ever get to see them again. He’d been hopeful when they had plans of sending the ark to earth but they’d lost contact with the ark before the grounders had attacked and he had no way of telling if his parents were even still alive. “There’s nothing wrong with being passionate about your work” Monty muttered, he was pretty passionate about his own work. Engineering was something that he loved and he had to agree with Isaiah because whilst he was working, it didn’t really feel like work and he thought himself incredibly lucky that he’d had the opportunity to do something that he loved on the ark, before he’d gotten himself locked up. “Yeah, can it really be called work if you enjoy it that much?” he asked the other man, a smile lighting up his face.
Monty had been nervous about revealing that they were criminals, there was no way to predict how somebody was going to react to that sort of information, what he hadn’t expected was for Isaiah to laugh about it. “It must seem pretty weird to you that somebody would get executed for a small crime like that” he mumbled, noting that somebody who’d grown up on the ark wouldn’t have reacted in the same way to the information that he’d given out. He couldn’t imagine what his life would have been like if he’d grown up in mount weather without ever having to worry about getting executed for a crime that small. “We were extremely bored, it was easy to get bored up there” he agreed and it was his turn to laugh “people could get pretty creative when it came to thinking about the best ways to pass the time” mostly people tried to find ways that didn’t break any rules, but occasionally you had to break the rules and that’s where the risks came in… There was something exciting about the idea that you might get caught, it didn’t become real until you were locked up and told that you’d be executed when you turned eighteen.“Thanks” Monty smiled again when Isaiah told him that he wouldn’t leak their secret to the other people in mount weather, at least he knew that he hadn’t just blown their chance of having somewhere safe to stay. It was pretty draining, constantly worrying if a grounder was going to come along and cut your life short, at least they were safe within the mountain. “Maybe you could show me where you work?” Monty suggested, knowing that it might bring a little bit of comfort to see something that was familiar to him “if that’s allowed, I understand if it’s not possible and it doesn’t have to be right now!” he hadn’t meant to start rambling and worrying about his suggestion, he didn’t know how things in mount weather worked. For all he knew, he was completely out of line for asking and now he probably sounded like an idiot.

Monty felt as if he could breathe again when she told him that she hadn’t been waiting too long for him to arrive. He would hate for her to think that he didn’t care enough to show up on time or that he didn’t actually want to be there. Because he did want to be there, he was excited because he definitely hadn’t had the courage to ask her out so it had been a big relief for him when she’d showed up at his door and asked him out, even if she had woken him up. “Good, that’s good” he muttered in response to her words, glad that he hadn’t managed to make himself look like a complete idiot in the first couple of minutes. When she complimented his appearance, Monty smiled “thanks… You look nice too” he answered, returning the compliment and keeping it simple as he knew that if he spoke too much, the chances of him rambling and screwing everything up were much higher.
He knew that he shouldn’t be as nervous about the date as he was, he knew Harper, she was his friend and definitely not somebody that he should be scared of. Unless he managed to piss her off, because he was about ninety percent sure that she could kill him if she wanted to… When she suggested that they grab some food and sit, Monty nodded his agreement to the suggestion “sure, food and sitting are two of my favourite things” it came out before he could stop it and he cringed, like that didn’t sound stupid. He glanced down at her hand when she offered it to him and subtly wiped his hand along the inside of his shirt, making sure that his palm wouldn’t feel sweaty when he took her hand. When he was satisfied, he reached for her hand and hoped that his palms would not betray how nervous he was.

Monty remembered waking up in quarantine, at the time he hadn’t known where he was or where his friends were. All he knew was that he was in a white room, the only window that he had was the one on his door and all it showed him was the hallway outside and a clear view to another room directly opposite his. He had no idea what had happened with the army of grounders that had planned to attack their camp or if any of his friends were even still alive but he’d calmed down considerably once he learned where he was and was reunited with Jasper and a number of the others, although a few took longer to clear in quarantine than others. Things were good at Mount Weather for a while but they started to get weird when Clarke was released from quarantine, she never seemed to believe that they were safe there, even when they tried to persuade her that she was just paranoid. They hadn’t wanted to listen to her or believe what she was saying, they just wanted to feel like they were safe and Mount Weather made them feel safe, the safest that they had felt since arriving on earth.
Of course, nothing ever went the way they wanted it to, something always happened that screwed it up. Clarke was gone, she’d disappeared and Jasper had told him that she’d decided to leave Mount Weather. Monty trusted his friend, but he never believed that Clarke would leave them, especially if she believed that they were in danger. He just didn’t believe that Clarke would abandon her friends if there was a chance that something would happen to them. Monty couldn’t help but be distrustful of the mountain men, especially after Clarke’s disappearance but he tried not to let his distrust in their hosts show, the last thing he wanted was for them to see him as a threat and get rid of him, just like they’d probably gotten rid of Clarke.
He walked into the room that he shared with the remaining survivors from the dropship, there weren’t many of them left, compared to the hundred that were sent to earth originally. His gazed scanned the room but he didn’t see Jasper anywhere, he figured that he was probably off somewhere with Maya, his absence didn’t concern him as much as it would have when they’d first been released from quarantine. However, his friend’s absence did mean that nobody immediately stuck out to him as somebody he could approach and talk to, he was familiar with most of the delinquent’s names, even if he hadn’t really spoken to everyone in the room before. He noticed a young woman sitting on the bottom bunk of one of the beds towards the back of the room and immediately decided that she would be the person he’d approach, he knew her name was Nina, but that was about all that he knew about her, he’d only spoken to her a couple of times in passing and hadn’t really thought to ask about her life story during those encounters. As he approached her, he decided to take a seat next to her on the bed “hey Nina” he greeted her casually as if it wasn’t one of the first times that they were speaking. He’d rather attempt to make friends with the others that he had to share a room with than wait for Jasper to come around and see that there was something off about their new home.Nina Eaton

Monty had felt a mixture of emotions when he’d found out that they were being sent to earth, excitement and fear were the most recognisable. He was excited because earth was the dream, it was this mysterious planet that everyone on the ark dreamed about but never hoped to actually get to go there and then he was scared, because it wasn’t supposed to be safe. The planet was not supposed to be able to support life yet, it was too soon and that meant that they were potentially being sent to a radiation soaked planet that could kill them. They were all going to die anyway if they stayed on the ark, they were all going to be floated so the idea of dying on earth shouldn’t actually be that daunting, but Monty didn’t want to die and he didn’t know if he was ready to die so soon, at least on the ark he’d get to wait until he turned eighteen. As the dropship started to shake, Monty squeezed his eyes shut tightly as he heard the people around him screaming. He was sure that he was going to die, sure that something had gone wrong and they were going to crash and the fall would kill them all, or maybe the dropship would explode upon entering the earth’s atmosphere.
However, the dropship fell to earth and although the landing was a bit rougher than Monty had anticipated, he was alive… As were the people around him, he wasn’t actually sure if the landing had killed anyone, but he was sure that a lot of people would be sore after the impact. As soon as he saw people getting out of their seats, he did the same, although he was cautious as he followed the others in an attempt to locate the exit. It was hard to see through the crowd but everyone seemed to be heading in the same direction and there wasn’t really anywhere to go inside the dropship, so Monty guessed that the majority of the people knew where they were going and when they came to a halt, he figured that they’d found the doors that would soon open to reveal a whole new world that they’d only ever dreamed about.Adelaide Morgan

Watching Jasper get hit by that spear was one of the hardest things Monty had ever had to do. It had happened so quickly that there was barely time for them to do anything more than just run, they’d just left him there believing that he was dead. He’d thought that his best friend was dead and now that they had him back and he was in the dropship, Monty couldn’t just sit still and watch him screaming in agony, he had to do something to help. They needed the seaweed that they’d found on Jasper’s wounds, Finn had told him where he could find the seaweed and Monty was fairly sure that he’d be able to identify it when he got to the location that he’d been given. There was only one more thing that he needed to do and that was look for somebody who would be willing to accompany him on the search for the medicine that could save Jasper’s life. He needed somebody that he could rely on and knew what to look for and who wouldn’t spook easily, there were still people out there who meant them harm and could potentially kill them, he needed somebody with him who wouldn’t be scared off easily.
As he left the dropship, he glanced around the makeshift camp that they’d constructed and saw very few familiar faces among the delinquents. It seemed as though he didn’t know many of the people who had been sent to earth with him and that was troubling. He chewed on the inside of his cheek anxiously as he scanned the faces of those that walked past him, they were all criminals and he needed to be able to trust whoever he took with him, it was a little worrying that the only person on earth that he trusted a hundred percent was the person that needed saving. Just as he was about to give up on finding somebody that he recognised, he noticed a girl near the dropship. She looked to be weaving some sort of basket or bowl or something… He wasn’t exactly sure what she was trying to make but he wasn’t that interested in what she was making, the thing that interested him the most was the fact that he’d seen her before. On the Ark, he’d definitely seen her before, he remembered seeing her around farm station before and that gave him hope that she had just as much knowledge of plants as he did, maybe more.
Whoever she was, Monty knew that she was his best option and as long as she agreed to it, she’d be the one who’d help him to save his friend. He started a brisk walk towards her and as he grew near he heard her question “he’s not much better than when they brought him back” he informed her, the concern clear in his voice. He’d been trying not to think about what might happen if they failed to find the medicine that he needed, but he couldn’t ignore the very real possibility that Jasper could die from his injuries. “I need to find some medicine that might help him, it’s a type of seaweed and I was wondering if you’d come along and help me find it” he was hoping that she’d agree to go with him because she was the only available person that he trusted enough to go with him. He didn’t know her all too well, he didn’t really even know her name, but she was familiar to him, if only vaguely and he couldn’t say the same about most of the other people who were on the dropship.

Monty noticed the smile that appeared on Isaiah's face after he told him that he was single, but he wasn't in any position to tease him about it, seeing as he was trying to fight off his own smile at hearing Isaiah's answer to the same question. Monty didn't quite know how to react to this news and so he said the first thing that came to mind "that's interesting" he stopped trying to fight his smile when Isaiah spoke next and all he could do was nod his confirmation. Of course he knew why he was interested, there was only one reason why he would be interested in who he was dating but he didn't know why he was interested in him. Since Isaiah had approached him, Monty had stolen his fork, eaten with his mouth open, teased him about being 'afraid' of germs, crushed his flawless idea of what space was like and thrown cutlery at him, so he was more than a little confused about why the mountain man would be interested in him when there were many other people that he could take the time to get to know, people who actually tried to be polite and weren't offended when somebody tried to steal their food.
"A farmer?" Monty questioned, he wasn't too surprised by the answer seeing as Isaiah had brought up the subject of farming and had seemed to be interested when he'd mentioned that he'd grown up on farm station. "I take it that you like your job?" many of the people that he knew from farm station enjoyed what they did and he assumed that the people in mount weather were the same way and they enjoyed the jobs that they did. "It sounds like you like your job" he continued, looking down at his hands now, he was glad that he was learning more about the man and he was glad that he liked something that Monty knew something about so he could at least understand what he was talking about and he could understand why he enjoyed farming so much, because he knew other people who enjoyed it too.
Monty hoped that revealing that they were all criminals wouldn't scare Isaiah away and he had to admit that he was probably guilty of oversharing at that moment, but the fact that Isaiah hadn't already freaked out about having lunch with a convicted criminal was something that he took as a good sign. When Isaiah asked him what he did to get himself locked up, Monty let out a small laugh "Jasper and I stole some herbs, I forgot to replace what we took, we got caught and that is my very brief unexciting story of how I got us both arrested" he explained, not going into detail about the events that led to him getting himself and Jasper arrested "and I've apologised a thousand times for not replacing the herbs and Jasper still won't forget that I was the one that got us locked up" looking back at it, Monty could see the funny side of things. Now that he wasn't dead or waiting to be executed for a petty crime, he could relax and see that it was actually pretty funny. "You might want to keep it to yourself... That we're criminals, you don't seem to care much but others might freak out a little" he lowered his voice as he spoke this time, he didn't know many of the mountain people well but he thought that they might not like it if they found out that they'd brought convicted criminals into their home.Isaiah Riggs

"I'm single" Monty replied in answer to Isaiah's questions, a small smile reappearing on his face as he spoke "what about you? You seeing anyone?" if Isaiah was so interested in his love life, then Monty didn't see any harm in asking a few questions of his own, especially if the guy that he was asking was as cute as this one was. "Why are you so interested anyway?" he questioned him, a smirk replacing the smile on his face now as he awaited an answer to his questions. Monty failed to hold in the laughter at seeing how Isaiah reacted to his comment about germs, it was refreshing to see the expression on his face as he realised what had been said to him. Maybe Monty just liked torturing the guy, but nobody had ever died from a little harmless teasing before... Or at least, Monty didn't think that they had.
Monty hated to see the disappointment on Isaiah's face when he told him that he wasn't a farmer, but an engineer instead, but he couldn't lie just to please a guy that he'd only just met. "Farming was never really for me" he began to answer Isaiah's question "I know that farmers are important and I really respect the work that they do, but I always wanted to do more, I liked building things and I liked using my hands to create something better and to fix things, it's something that I enjoyed and so when the time came for me to choose what I wanted to do, engineering was the obvious choice, they obviously thought I had potential or something because the next thing I know, the chief of engineering is recruiting me onto his team" the memory was fuzzy and he couldn't remember everything that had happened but he'd achieved something and he was proud that he'd achieved something that he had wanted. "What about you? What do you do?" he questioned the other man, they'd been talking about him but Monty realised that he didn't really know anything about Isaiah and he wanted that to change.
Smiling, Monty nodded his head in acknowledgement to Isaiah's words "there was one good thing about living in space, the view was awesome" he admitted, meeting Isaiah's gaze again. There was something about looking out into space that never got old, it was beautiful and mysterious and it offered a brief escape for him when his own life was boring and predictable on the ark. Monty could tell that he'd killed the mood by mentioning what happened to the criminals on the ark, but he couldn't just take what he'd said back now that it was out there. Nodding at Isaiah's question, he tried to think of what to say next "all of the my people here, they were arrested, most of them for petty crimes that didn't really hurt anyone, but their punishment is the same, a lengthy stay in the skybox followed by execution once they're eighteen" even the council seemed to be against killing children, but they kept them locked up anyway, because once they turned eighteen they wouldn't have to feel guilty about killing a child. "There weren't enough resources to keep everyone alive, we had strict rules set in place to keep everyone alive, they can't keep criminals alive because they use up resources that they couldn't afford to waste" it was a harsh system, but it worked for the most part, because people were too afraid to break the rules because they knew what the consequences would be.

"Not my boyfriend" Monty repeated, just in case there was any doubt left in Isaiah's mind about his relationship with Jasper. He would have to tell Jasper that they couldn't share cutlery anymore, because the last thing he wanted was for somebody else to mistake them for a couple. Isaiah seemed to understand their relationship, or at least the way that he held up his hands made it look like he did. Monty kept his attention on the older man as he noticed the blush slowly start to appear on his cheeks and he bit back the laughter that he was desperate to let out, he didn't want to scare him away by embarrassing him and he'd learnt that laughing at people wasn't the most polite thing to do. He expected the mountain man to lose his confidence at any moment and to just get up and walk away in search of another table to finish his food, he hadn't expected the man whom had made it quite clear that sharing cutlery was gross, to then pick up the fork that Monty had used and use it himself to eat a slice of tomato.
Monty raised an eyebrow at Isaiah's behaviour, it had surprised him, especially since Isaiah had previously refused to eat using a fork that had been in Monty's mouth. "Turns out you don't mind my germs after all" he chuckled, shaking his head a little in disbelief at the man's actions "that's reassuring to know" he looked back down to his plate and busied himself with trying to finish the cake that by now should've been gone but the arrival of the man who seemed to be so interested in talking to him, had distracted him from his food. From what he'd seen, they were making progress, Isaiah didn't seem to care much about germs anymore and they'd moved on to talk about farming. Farming wasn't overly interesting in Monty's opinion, it wasn't something that he liked to talk about on a daily basis and it wasn't something that he was passionate about but he would respect it if it was something that Isaiah was fond of.
He shook his head slowly at Isaiah's question "oh no... I'm not a farmer" he told him, hoping that his words wouldn't be too much of a disappointment to him. "I guess I would've been a farmer if I hadn't been recruited by engineering" he explained to the other man "I'm an engineer, who happens to know a bit about farming" engineering was really the thing that he enjoyed, farming just didn't do it for him, he understood why it was important, he just had no desire to continue with farming when he could have more. "Okay... So what you just described was exactly what it was like up there, apart from the food up there isn't even good" if there had been cake on the ark then maybe he would have enjoyed it up there a lot more. "The only way to really have fun up there was to do something illegal and then even if it's the smallest of crimes, you'd get arrested and if you're over eighteen you get executed and if you're under eighteen, you get locked up until you're old enough for them to execute you" he flashed a smile as he stopped talking, as if he hadn't just killed the mood and potentially killed Isaiah's perfect image of what space was like.

The whole fork sharing thing was obviously a big deal to Isaiah, if it wasn't then Monty wouldn't have seen the look of surprise on his face when he mentioned that he did share cutlery with other people. He expected Isaiah to start lecturing him about how fork sharing and how gross it was, that was where he thought their conversation was going to go, what he was not expecting was for the man to assume that Jasper was his boyfriend. When he heard Isaiah ask him about it, the first thing that he knew that he had to do was to set him straight, he couldn't have somebody thinking that he was dating his brother. They weren't related by blood but that was still so gross. "Jasper is not my boyfriend!" he shot down that idea before anyone could overhear their conversation and get the wrong idea "he's my brother, not my real brother but he's still my brother" hopefully Isaiah understood that and knew what it meant. People didn't date their siblings, at least... Not in space they didn't and from what he gathered, that wasn't a thing that happened among the mountain people either.
Monty noticed the confusion on Isaiah's face when he laughed and that just brought on another wave of laughter. Their conversation had definitely taken an unexpected turn away from sharing cutlery and cake "If you changed your attitude..." Monty muttered as he finally managed to get his laughter under control "I think I'd find you a lot more attractive if you changed your attitude and ate your own food" he told him, shrugging his shoulders as if he didn't really care much about the topic and as if to prove a point, he picked up his fork again and took another mouthful of cake, this time making sure to chew with his mouth closed. "But... I wouldn't want to give you my germs" this time the laughter was easier to hold back, but the same couldn't be said for the smile that had now appeared upon the young man's face as he went back to chasing the cake around his plate with his fork.
Monty was relieved to see Isaiah put the fork down, maybe that meant that he wasn't planning to continue their argument about sharing forks, even if Monty still disagreed with the older males opinions on it. "I grew up on farm station" he answered Isaiah's question with a smile, he had a few fond memories of his home on the ark and growing up on farm station with Jasper, even if it could sometimes get dull. "I know a thing or two about how things were grown, we did use hydroponic farming... Our methods probably weren't dissimilar to yours" although he wasn't a farmer, growing up on farm station had allowed him to learn things about plants and growing things, even if he preferred engineering over farming. "Living in space isn't as exciting as it sounds, I would have loved to have grown up down here, it just looks so much easier... And there's better food" he suspected that mount weather had their own way of dealing with people who broke the law but he was pretty sure that if he'd grown up at mount weather, he wouldn't have been arrested for a petty crime and forced to wait for the day that he'd be sucked out into space.

Monty didn't understand what Isaiah's problem was with him offering him a fork, it was just a fork. Granted, it had been in his mouth but Monty didn't get it, not really because he was used to sharing forks with other people. Or at least, he was okay with sharing a fork with Jasper, it wasn't a big deal, as long as he wasn't sick, as long as they were both healthy then it was alright, or that was how Monty saw it. He'd never met anyone who was so put off by the idea of sharing a fork with another person, Isaiah was overreacting and he didn't even have a reason to overreact. "I do..." Monty replied to the man's question, picking up his own fork and stabbing it into the cake that was left on his plate "or at least, I share a fork with Jasper, sometimes we'll share a spoon if we're feeling adventurous" he couldn't help but crack a smile at his joke, he didn't care if nobody else thought that it was funny, he happened to find himself hilarious. He didn't know if Isaiah had met Jasper or even knew who the hell he was talking about, but he didn't care much about that either. 'You wouldn't kiss me' the words were barely audible and Monty almost missed them completely as he focused on getting another piece of cake onto his fork but when he heard Isaiah speak, he couldn't help but look up from his plate and meet the man's gaze once again. There were a couple of seconds of silence before a smile appeared on Monty's face and he let out a small chuckle "not with that attitude" he retorted, chasing the cake around the plate with his fork, but this time he didn't seem to be interested in eating any of it, even if cake was now his favourite food and he was sure that he could spend the rest of his life eating it if he didn't have to eat other things to keep a balanced diet. "I think that you're overthinking this" he admitted, lowering his gaze to look at his plate again "it's just a fork and it's not like you're going to get sick if you use a fork that has been in my mouth, that fork was in your mouth first and I didn't have a problem with it" some people were strange, Isaiah was a person that Monty thought was really very strange at that moment.
Monty heard Isaiah's question and he looked up from his food once again, rolling his eyes "the edible kind" he muttered a reply, but upon seeing the curious expression upon the other man's face, he let out a sigh and put his fork down on his plate so that he wouldn't be distracted by food. "Our food was always rationed and the flavours weren't really exciting, we didn't have cake or chocolate up there, we didn't have animals up there and we didn't have the resources to grow some of the things that you are capable of growing down here" there wasn't much to tell and he didn't know what Isaiah wanted to hear. Space wasn't nearly as exciting as people thought it was, but you only really found that out if you had to live up there, it wasn't anything special. "You don't really want to know what it was like up there, because it was boring and there was never anything exciting to do and it'll ruin your perfect image of what space is like" crushing dreams, that wasn't something that Monty wanted to do, it didn't sound fun, even if it was this guy and he had been annoying him only moments before.

Monty could tell that the man was surprised when he took his cake back, but it was his cake and he'd tried to steal it when all Monty had been trying to do was sit and eat his cake alone, in peace and without any interruptions. He didn't regret any of his actions, he actually quite enjoyed watching the expression on Isaiah's face as he took the fork out of his hand and ate the cake himself. "The chocolate cake is really very good..." he muttered around his mouthful of cake, maybe if he forgot all of his table manners, the mountain man would be repulsed and finally leave him to finish his very healthy meal alone. "Just, go get your own cake... I don't share" this time he made sure to swallow everything that was in his mouth, he wanted the man to leave him alone, he didn't want him to throw up all over him... Or worse, his precious chocolate cake.
What Monty hadn't expected, was for Isaiah to start laughing even louder than he had been previously at his actions. Still holding the fork out for Isaiah to take, he didn't understand what was so funny, couldn't he tell that he wanted him to leave. Stealing cake was an unforgivable crime, even if he had been unsuccessful. "It's just a fork" Monty muttered, waving a dismissive hand at the older male, it wasn't like Monty had wanted to use his fork in the first place. His hand had been forced by Isaiah trying to take the cake from him, he never would have had to put that fork anywhere near his mouth if he hadn't pulled a stunt like that. "You scared you might catch something?" he questioned him, meeting his gaze as he awaited an answer and he obviously expected to get an answer."In space, we didn't really get food like this" he told him with a shrug of his shoulders "so excuse me if I'm not a fan of sharing" maybe all mountain people had no idea what personal space was, but Monty was a very big fan of personal space and of the idea that each person's food was their own and it is inappropriate to take their food without asking. "It's just a fork" he repeated, throwing it half heartedly across the table to Isaiah "it's yours anyway, I don't want it..." he had his own, eating with two forks didn't really seem necessary and Isaiah was now without a fork and he had yet to finish his own meal. Monty was only trying to be nice and save him a journey to get a new fork.Isaiah Riggs

Monty was glad that the man seemed so welcoming and willing to speak so openly to him, it was nice to meet new people. There wasn't much chance of that when so few of them had been sent to earth, everybody knew everybody among their group, at least vaguely. He was a little embarrassed that he'd seen so jumpy when Isaiah had first approached him, but in his defence, the man was being unnecessarily loud and he'd been absorbed in eating his cake. "Are you people always that loud?" he decided to ask the man, recalling how he'd placed his plate on the table and spooked him. Eating cake was an art... At least, Monty thought that it should be and it required a quiet, peaceful environment so that he could avoid choking and could take his time and savour the food. Distractions weren't needed nor wanted if he was honest... Even if he was grateful for the company.
Monty continued to watch the man, expecting him to continue with his own meal but instead, he reached forward and Monty's eyes flicked down to his place as his fork cut through his cake and Isaiah took a piece for himself. The smile that had not left his face since Isaiah's arrival at his table, dropped from his face and his mouth fell open slightly in a mixture of shock and outrage. 'Cake is good' he barely registered the man's words before he was on his feet, reaching across the table quickly, he snatched the fork out of the man's hand before sitting back down in his seat. He glared at the man for a second longer before bringing the fork to his lips and putting it in his mouth to get rid of the cake before he could try to take it back. He knew that he should've been suspicious of his approach, he'd obviously just wanted his cake, Monty of course had known all along. Trust nobody. That was the only way to keep his cake safe."I'm sorry... I didn't invite you to share my cake" he apologised, holding the fork back out to the other man, inviting him to take it back. He wasn't about to share the cake when Isaiah had had his whole life to eat it and quite frankly he thought that it was rude for him to take some for himself without asking first. "I need it you see... For science" he didn't expect Isaiah to believe him but he was willing to use any excuse. "You wouldn't want to get in the way of science, would you?" he questioned him, raising an eyebrow as he spoke. He was sure that the other man was more than capable of getting his own cake, he didn't need to go stealing it from others, especially those that weren't afraid to stab him with their cutlery if he did it again.

Monty hadn't expected any of this when he'd been taken out of that white room, he hadn't expected to see any of his friends again and he hadn't really known if he'd be allowed to leave alive. He'd been taken to mount weather against his will and he hadn't known what the people who lived there had planned for him. It was a relief to find that they didn't mean him any harm and one by one, each of his friends were brought to the room that they were meant to share, after they'd been cleared from quarantine. Monty's favourite place in mount weather was probably the mess hall, the food that they served tasted better than anything Monty was used to eating. The whole time that they'd been on Earth they had been surviving by hunting the animals and foraging, even on the ark they hadn't had food like they were being given here.
Monty's new favourite thing was the chocolate cake that he'd discovered. When he'd first seen it, he thought that it looked good but upon tasting it, he'd found that he'd deeply underestimated the cake. It was the best thing that he'd ever tasted and because of that, he refused to share with anyone, he hadn't even let Jasper take a bite. Everyone who lived in mount weather seemed to be friendly, Monty hadn't spoken to many of them but they didn't seem to be hostile to himself or any of his friends, if anything, they seemed willing to welcome them into their home. Monty flinched slightly when somebody set their plate down in front of him and instinctively pulled his own plate back towards him, curling a protective arm around it as if expecting whoever it was to attempt to steal his cake.
Looking up from his food, he saw that the plate belonged to another man. He looked like he was a few years older than himself and he was smiling down at him. When the man introduced himself, Monty swallowed the mouthful of cake that he'd put in his mouth before he'd been interrupted. "Hey... I'm Monty" he introduced himself in return, a smile appearing on his face as he realised that this man probably wasn't going to steal his cake. "It's good to be here..." much better than being out there with the grounders, he didn't exactly fancy getting stabbed or speared, he liked his body in one piece. "You should try the chocolate cake... It's really good" he let out a chuckle as he spoke, stabbing his fork into the cake a couple of times as his eyes wandered back to his plate. He was pretty sure that Isaiah had tried it before, he lived in the mountain but Monty was also pretty sure that it was a crime to allow anyone to miss out on the opportunity of tasting the cake at least once in their life... As long as they didn't come looking to take some off his plate.

Monty stared at Jackson in disbelief at first at the answer that he gave, but then he noticed the expression on his face, the look on his face wasn't one of a liar and why would he lie about something like that anyway, he had no reason to. "Oh" Monty muttered quietly, staring at Jackson for a couple more seconds as if trying to figure him out. There was a lot that he didn't know about him and he became more and more aware of that fact with every passing second. Monty began to realise that maybe questioning him like he was, wasn't the best way to learn more about him. Jackson wasn't turning out to be like he imagined, he'd been cooperative when it came to his questions, so far and answered them, even if they did get a little personal.
Realising that maybe a different approach would be more effective, Monty glanced around the room briefly before locating what he'd been looking for. He walked briskly over to the chair that was standing beside one of the beds, before carrying it back over to Jackson and setting it down beside him. "Could you... Maybe, tell me a bit more about yourself?" Monty questioned him cautiously, sitting down slowly in the chair that he'd just brought over to him. He'd decided that a softer approach might be effective and after all this, Jackson was going to be marrying one of Monty's best friends, he wanted to actually get along with him, maybe they'd even become friends themselves. If Monty didn't manage to screw it up by asking deeply personal questions in a bid to protect Bellamy from a man that now, didn't look as threatening as he once had.

Monty was expecting Harper to leave then, he wasn't expecting her to step forwards and hug him, although he shouldn't have been surprised by it. As she hugged him, he wrapped his arms around her, accepting the hug but allowed her to slip easily out of it once she pulled away from him again. "I'll see you then" he agreed, he knew exactly what she meant and he let out a chuckle as she left his apartment. One of the thing she'd said before she'd left was that she would allow him to get some sleep and he fully intended to take advantage of that. Nerves about their date could wait, at that moment all he wanted to do was sleep, especially after being woken up, even if the reason for Harper waking him had been good enough for Monty to overlook it. Trudging back over to his bed, he pulled back the blankets and collapsed onto it, once again cocooning himself in the blankets, grateful for the warmth that they provided him with. It wasn't as easy as he'd originally anticipated to fall asleep after Harper's visit, his mind was a hive of activity but eventually he grew tired enough finally fall asleep again.
The next day, Monty was definitely worried about what he would wear, nothing that he wore on a day to day basis seemed to be good enough to wear on their date. He didn't want to just show up in anything, especially since it was Harper, he really liked her and he didn't want her thinking that he didn't want to make the effort for her. He ended up rummaging through the clothes that he did have, finding a button down shirt at the very bottom of the closet where he kept his clothes. It was a pale blue in colour and he recognised it as one of the shirts that he'd worn in Mount Weather, originally he'd thrown it aside, not knowing how comfortable he was with wearing clothing from that place after he'd helped to destroy it, but eventually he'd come back to it, finding that it was the only thing that was suitable. Most of his clothing was ripped in places and the shirt was one of the only things that still looked relatively clean and well kept, at least compared to the rest of his clothing, probably because of his reluctance to wear it. He found his cleanest, least torn pair of pants so that he could at least look somewhat presentable, although he was sure that he'd get there and discover that they were riddled with tears and stains, they looked fine to him at that moment but he didn't have the time to waste searching for tears in his clothing.
Monty managed to find the time to shower and change before their date but somehow still managed to be running a bit later than he would have liked. He quickly ran a hand through his hair as a substitute for brushing it and was thankful that his hair wasn't sticking up all over the place and looked relatively neat. Leaving his apartment, he set off at a brisk walk towards the hangar, when he got there he could see Harper already standing up ahead and instantly became worried that he was later than he'd thought. When she turned to see him and he saw the smile on her face, he was relieved that she didn't appear mad at him for keeping her waiting "hey, you haven't been waiting long, have you?" he asked, trying not to appear too worried about the answer that she might give.
