Monty was momentarily speechless as Jackson addressed him as Murphy. Murphy?! They looked nothing alike, their names didn't even sound similar, sure, they both started with M and ended with Y but there was a whole bunch of letters in between that made them completely different names. "Monty" he corrected the doctor, glaring at him, although he was sure that it was just a simple mistake "Mon-TY" he enunciated his name slowly in an attempt to get his point across. "Has Bellamy not mentioned me?" okay, now that was just rude, usually it was polite to introduce your friends to your partner before you got married, at the very least Monty expected Jackson to know of his existence. The man did confirm that he was the guy that he was looking for and he wasn't at all what Monty was expecting, but maybe that was because he'd painted him as a villain in his mind, someone who was out to hurt Bellamy in the cruellest way possible.
The way Jackson was looking at him, with a concerned expression on his face, really threw off his focus. How could he even begin to interrogate him when he didn't look the least bit like a guy who would want to break Bellamy's heart. "I just have a couple of questions for you" he told the waiting doctor "and I'd appreciate it if you could answer them truthfully" usually he wouldn't bother reminding anyone to be truthful, but he couldn't be too careful, especially when the stakes were so high. If he got this wrong and didn't go through everything properly then Bellamy could end up marrying someone who was just going to break his heart. "How long have you and Bellamy known each other?" start off casual, although he wasn't fond of the man, he had to still make sure that he'd be willing to answer the questions.

After the memorial, Monty had slipped soundlessly away and headed back to his own apartment, he didn't feel like being around a large group of people at that moment. They may have lost people too and were mourning their own losses but at that moment, he didn't want support from people who he barely knew and who barely knew him, their grief didn't make them the same. He was almost certain that they hadn't been the ones to directly cause their loved one's death, they hadn't murdered one of the people that they cared about most in the world. He'd stared into his mother’s eyes and pulled the trigger, delivering a non-lethal shot to her shoulder first but then when she'd continued to attack Octavia, he'd shot at her again. He didn't think he'd ever forget the look on his mother’s face the second after he'd shot her that second time, he knew that it wasn't her, she was chipped... But the moment before she died, after he'd shot her in the chest with that bullet, it almost looked like she was herself again, like ALIE was gone and there was just a look of confusion and betrayal on her face that he'd never be able to wipe from his mind. He wasn't sure if he wanted the memory gone, at least if he remembered then he'd never forget what he did, what sort of monster killed their own mother. A normal person would've found another way, there had to be another way, maybe there was something that he'd missed in the heat of the moment, something that he couldn't focus on when he was watching his mother push the blade of a sword up against Octavia's throat. He'd been fine, he'd managed to keep his focus on things that were more important than the death of his mother, he managed to focus on helping his friends, but the memorial had dragged it all back to the surface and with it came the pain that he'd been hiding from.
Monty had barely shut the door behind him before the tears began to fall, sliding down his cheeks quicker than he could wipe them away. He tried to stop the tears from falling, tried to blink them away, he'd never been one to cry easily, even after he'd been arrested, it had been Jasper who'd eventually started to cry and it had been Monty's job to comfort his friend. Now however, he couldn't control the tears as they fell, a sob shook his body and he raised a hand to his mouth to stifle any sounds that might escape him. Leaving his place by the door, he crossed to where his bed was and as he reached it, he immediately crawled beneath the sheets and reached for his pillow, burying his head into the pillow, he allowed for the object to soak up the moisture of his tears as he allowed himself to cry. No longer fighting back the sobs that wracked his body, each one ripped from his throat and made it more painful than the last. His hands balled into fists and he punched the pillow a couple of times, trying to release his anger in any way possible. Crying wouldn't fix his problems, it wouldn't bring his mother back, but that didn't matter because he couldn't stop, not now that he'd started, once the tears began to fall it was impossible to stop them until they'd ran their course.
The sobbing went on for quite some time, until he didn't have the energy to sob anymore and he just lay in his bed, face buried in the pillow that had grown damp from his tears. He didn't know how long he'd been lying there, under ordinary circumstances, he would have fallen asleep already, but sleep refused to find him. He almost didn't hear the knock on his door... He didn't really care enough to answer it, he almost yelled for whoever it was to go away, but he didn't trust his voice. So instead, he forced himself to sit up in the bed, using the sleeves of his shirt to wipe away any tears that remained on his face and he rubbed at his eyes a little to get rid of the moisture that betrayed him, but he knew that it wouldn't make a difference. His eyes were no doubt red from the time he'd spent crying, he trusted himself enough to walk to the door and show whoever it was that he was alright, he just had to hold it together for a couple of minutes. Reaching the door, he placed a hand on the handle, swallowing down his emotions as he put on a brave face, despite knowing that anyone with eyes would be able to see through his display. Opening the door, he opened his mouth to tell the visitor to leave him alone before his eyes took in who was actually at the door. He wanted to ask Bellamy what he was doing there, he wanted to tell him to leave him alone so that he could go back to bed, but he didn't do that. Instead, he almost launched himself at his friend, wrapping his arms around the older male and refusing the let go, even as he felt the familiar sting of the tears in his eyes again and his body shook with a barely contained sob. Bellamy had been there for him after mount weather, he hadn't expected him to be there for him now as well and yet, there he was. His hands clutched at his older friend, refusing to let go, he wanted to say something, but he couldn't find the words, instead he just buried his head into Bellamy's shirt, barely caring about the tears that were marking his friends clothes.

After speaking with Jackson, Monty had determined that he had been seriously misjudged the man, he wasn't anything like he had imagined him to be, he was actually kind. He definitely seemed like he would treat Bellamy the way that he deserved to be treated, Monty might even venture to say that he loved him. From what he'd heard, Bellamy felt the same way, he wouldn't be marrying him if he didn't. However, Bellamy did have a certain reputation, one that wasn't necessarily good when marriage involved staying loyal to a single person, perhaps for the rest of your life. It was Monty's job to make sure that Bellamy and Jackson had a long, happy marriage, god forbid they had a messy break up, he couldn't be stuck between that, forced to choose between the guy that had been there for him through everything and his new found friend that actually seemed to understand what he was talking about most of the time.
Monty had been searching for his friend for around an hour, he'd been to his apartment but got no answer, he'd been to see if he was on duty out in the yard, but he couldn't find him out there either. The only place left to look should've been obvious to the boy, of course Bellamy would choose to work out in his spare time, he definitely didn't look like somebody who spent their days sitting inside all day. Walking into the training arena, he hesitated when he saw Bellamy inside and a small smile immediately appeared on his face before he could stop it "Hey, who're you trying to impress?" he called out to the other male, trying to wipe the smile off of his face. He walked towards Bellamy, trying to keep a serious expression on his face, but he just looked so happy, how could Monty not smile about that.

Monty had been surprised when he'd heard that Bellamy was engaged, it wasn't something that he had expected. He was pleased for his friend and glad that he could be happy after everything that he'd been through and he had been through a lot. However, he couldn't help but feel concerned, he hadn't even met the man that Bellamy intended to marry, sure, he'd seen him around but he'd never actually spoken to him, all he knew was that he was some sort of doctor and his name was Jackson... If that even was his real name. Monty just didn't want to see Bellamy get hurt, he'd been hurt too many times, nobody else seemed to be worried about it and so Monty had taken it upon himself to learn more about Bellamy's fiancé and perhaps give him a few words of advice. A few friendly words of advice. He had to make sure that this man wasn't going to hurt Bellamy, the guy didn't deserve any more pain and Monty was going to make sure that Jackson was the right man for him and that he'd treat him the way he deserved to be treated.
Jackson was a doctor, so the first place Monty thought to look was in medical, that's where he assumed he'd be and it seemed as though his assumption was correct as he immediately spotted the older male in the almost empty room. Walking quickly towards the other man, Monty tried to look as confident as he could, standing up straight in an attempt to make himself look taller, although he wasn't sure that it was working. Reaching up to tap the older man on the shoulder, Monty cleared his throat in order to get his attention, as if physically touching him wasn't already enough. "Jackson, right?" he asked suspiciously, when the doctor turned around to look at him, he didn't trust him and he wasn't good enough for Bellamy... He didn't really think any guy would ever be good enough for Bellamy, but from the looks of this guy, he definitely didn't look like he had anything in common with Bellamy. "We need to talk... Right now and no... It can't wait" when he actually started talking to him, he didn't sound as confident as he wanted to, but Monty had bigger things to worry about than trying to sound intimidating, like protecting Bellamy from this man who could potentially break his heart.

Monty could understand why his mother had attempted to follow him, she’d done it for the same reason that he’d gone in after Monroe. She didn’t want him to die and Monty understood that, equally, he didn’t want her to die. She was his mother and he’d only just got her back, he didn’t think he’d be able to forgive himself if he was the one responsible for her death. “I didn’t expect her to follow me” he should have expected it, she was his mother, he should know better than to think that she’d just stand back and watch him die.
Bryan had obviously developed a strong bond with his mother, it was obvious to Monty in the way that he spoke of her and it irritated him. He wasn’t jealous, there was nothing to be jealous about, his mother was allowed to have friends, your friends were your support system. They’d probably been there for each other when they’d lost people, when his father had died and he couldn’t be there for her. Monty didn’t want to lose her either, he wasn’t exactly on speaking terms with Jasper at that moment so his mother was the only family he had left and he wasn’t about to throw that away. “Nobody is going to lose her” he muttered, trying to meet Bryan’s eyes when he spoke, he would never purposefully endanger his mother’s life, but he had and the truth was that he could have lost her because of his actions.
"Maybe I should have thought about it first, before I went back for Monroe" he admitted "but I don't regret doing it, I could have saved her, I had to try" he wasn't going to apologise for trying to save her life. Not when his actions hadn't brought harm to anyone else, there could have been more casualties, but there weren't, the others hadn't come to any harm, his mother was safe. "If we hesitate then people could die" he'd rather attempt to save lives than hesitate and watch the people he cared about die.

Monty didn’t expect Harper to be the most optimistic person in the world at that moment, she’d just been drilled into for her bone marrow and was still weak from that experience. He’d noticed that she wasn’t acting like her usual self but he didn’t expect her to be, not after what she’d been through. He just wished that she was a little more optimistic and saw that there was a chance that somebody would attempt to rescue them. If she could believe that they’d actually get out of Mount Weather alive, it might make things easier for her. Monty didn’t think she’d start to hope until she saw solid proof that somebody was planning to rescue them… If anyone was actually coming, there was always the possibility that they’d be forgotten about, thrown aside because of their crimes on the Ark, despite the promise to pardon them.
“We could die…” Monty admitted eventually, knowing that there was always the possibility that they would die “but we could’ve died when the grounders attacked us back at the dropship and we didn’t” it just seemed like everything on earth was trying to kill them. They’d managed to escape the grounders, only to end up in Mount Weather which didn’t seem as though it was any safer. “Thank you? For what?” he questioned her, confused about what she was thanking him for, he didn’t think that he’d done anything to deserve her thanks, as far as he could tell, all he’d done was do a great job at irritating her and trying to convince her that they would get out of their situation alive, even when he could make no such promise.
It didn’t matter to him if she didn’t find him funny, he was just trying to make her laugh and put a smile on her face, maybe cheer her up a little. He smiled when he heard her laughter and found that he didn’t even really care that it wasn’t as a result of his actual joke. “Sure you do, that’s why they make you double over with laughter” he joked, the sarcasm obvious in his voice. It had been too long since he’d heard her laugh and he’d rather see her laughing than watch her cry. The pain that she’d been put through had reduced her to tears and it hurt him to see her like that. If he could make her laugh, even just for a second then his bad jokes would be worth it.
“Jasper is smart, I trust him and so should you” he muttered, knowing that while his friend might sometimes act like an idiot, he was smart. He trusted Jasper with his life, Harper might not be willing to do the same, but she didn’t know Jasper like he did. “He got us out of those cages, he saved our lives, he saved your life” she wouldn’t have survived much longer if they’d continued to take her bone marrow and they both knew it. Jasper had saved them, if he hadn’t earned their trust from that, then he never would.

Monty didn't quite understand at first when Clarke explained what had happened to her. She said that she'd needed a blood transfusion so that her body would accept the AI and he assumed that this had something to do with what she'd said about only nightbloods being able to be implanted with the AI and surviving. He wasn't a doctor, but even he thought that, that plan didn't sound particularly safe and it turned out that it wasn't safe. "You could have been killed" he hissed at her although he was fairly sure that she wouldn't have gone through with it if there was another way to bring down ALIE. He'd seen too many of his friends die since coming to the ground and he didn't want to lose anyone else.
"Jasper was chipped, but we managed to restrain him before he could do too much damage" he said in reply to her question "apart from a few minor scrapes and bruises, we're all fine" they were alive and Monty's main concern was her. The group that had gone to Polis all looked pretty beaten up and he knew that they'd probably had to deal with a lot more than the rest of them who'd stayed behind at Arkadia. "I'll tell you more about it later, you look terrible... Maybe some rest will do you good" he tried to flash her a smile but it refused to stay on his face for long.

Monty was bored, his parents had left for work a couple of hours ago and as he wasn't working that day, he had nothing to do. Jasper was busy and even if he wasn't, Monty doubted that his parents would want him to spend his day off with the other boy. Apparently they 'spent too much time together' and Jasper was a 'bad influence'. Bad influence or not, Jasper was his friend and his only means of entertainment when he had nothing else to do, there wasn't a lot to do on the Ark and that made for a lot of boring days off, at least when he was working he was focussing his mind on something productive.
The boy had found an old chess set whilst rummaging through his parents things in an attempt to find something to do and was currently sat at the table playing against himself. The set had a few pieces missing which he'd substituted by using a couple of scrunched up balls of paper, but the game was doing little to ease his boredom. He couldn't expect good results when he was only playing against himself, it didn't offer any entertainment at all. He'd just started to rest his forehead against the tables surface when he heard the door to the apartment open and his head shot back up, expectantly glancing towards the door. He'd expected one of his parents, or maybe Jasper had freed up some time, but instead he saw Gena standing in his home instead. "Hey Gena" he greeted the woman, forcing a smile even if he didn't particularly feel like smiling. "Just playing chess... Feel free to join me" anything would make his day more enjoyable, even homework, he doubted that she'd come over to give him homework, but it would definitely give him something to do.

Jasper's laugh was infectious and soon Monty found himself laughing with his friend, it was good to hear him laughing, especially when he'd just been crying. He knew that Jasper would never punch a guard, or at least, he didn't think that he would, but it was good to joke about things, if they couldn't joke about their situation then all there was left to do was sit and cry about it. Seeing as he'd already seen his best friend cry once that night, Monty was ready to move past it and try to keep both of their spirits high, if not for himself then for Jasper because it was already apparent that his friend was finding it hard.
"Don't be a baby... I didn't hurt you" he nudged Jasper playfully as the other boy appeared to rub the spot where he'd kicked him. Monty knew for a fact that he hadn't kicked Jasper hard enough to hurt him, he spent enough time around his friend to know when he'd actually been hurt. When Jasper teased him about his skills as a thief all Monty could do was roll his eyes "next time you want something, you can go steal it yourself!" he knew that Jasper was only trying to joke, of course Monty still worried that his friend blamed him for getting them arrested, but he tried to push those worries aside, he'd apologised, they couldn't change what had happened so the only thing they could do was try to move on from it. Monty was more worried at that moment about his growing hunger and Jasper seemed to be enjoying torturing him at that moment by talking about food as much as he possibly could "whatever they give us, it better be soon, otherwise I might have to eat you instead" of course he was joking, but then there was part of him that wondered how long it would be until he started imagining Jasper as a giant piece of talking food.

Monty waited anxiously at the bottom of the ladder for Clarke, watching her carefully in case she fell. He was worried about her injuries, he didn't know exactly what was wrong with her, only that she'd seriously injured her arm, he had no idea if she had any further injuries and he wasn't a doctor, he doubted that he could be of any help to her at all. He wished that they hadn't been separated from the rest of their group, having a healer with them that could actually tend to Clarke's injuries would have been a lot of help. When Clarke jumped the last couple of steps, Monty reached out to steady her "You okay?" he asked seeing how she struggled to stand upright.
They were now out of immediate danger and could hear each other clearly, his eyes flew to her shoulder as she voiced her concern about how it could be dislocated. He didn't know what he was looking for, he didn't know what a dislocated shoulder looked like, but it was evident that it was too painful for her to use that arm. Her words about the bunker drew Monty's gaze from her and he looked around properly for the first time since entering the bunker. "It could be..." he muttered in reply as he risked leaving her side to walk slowly away from the ladder, the place was big, if they had some source of light then maybe they'd be able to look around more effectively and see just how big the bunker was. "I think so..." he finally added after thinking about it for a while, they'd have to explore it more, see how much room there was and what was inside, but it definitely looked like they could use it.

Monty nodded at Gena's words, nobody had expected to be on the ground. Monty hadn't even known that it was possible, as far as he knew, earth wasn't survivable. They were still alive though, not all of them, many had been lost, but things were looking good for those that remained. "Sorting through clothes does sound kind of dull" he agreed, getting out of Arkadia for the day could prove to be rewarding, spending every day in Arkadia got boring quickly, at least this was an opportunity to do something different.
When the rest of farm station was found, there would be others to do the job for them, perhaps people who had more experience in farming than either of them did, despite growing up on the station themselves and when that happened then they wouldn't have many opportunities like this to get out of Arkadia. Monty was grateful that Gena was the one that he would be going with, at least he knew her on some level. The only other person he'd want to go with who'd also grown up on farm was Jasper and he spent most of his time drinking these days anyway. Since Monty would rather be in the company of someone who was sober, Gena seemed to be his best option. "Yeah, maybe we'll even enjoy digging in the ground" he suggested, the actual job of digging around looking for food couldn't offer too much entertainment, but he figured that they could at least enjoy each others company.

Monty had only been told that morning that he'd be going outside of Arkadia in search of food, he knew that since he'd grown up on farm station that he had knowledge of edible plants, he didn't know as much as some of the others from farm did, but he didn't want to be a farmer, he'd chosen to train to be an engineer and you didn't need to know much about farming in that line of work. However, since farm station had yet to be found, if there was anything left of it to find, there weren't many people from farm station in Arkadia, Monty was one of the few that originally came from the station and therefore had knowledge of farming, that made him one of the most eligible people to go digging through dirt in search of the roots that would be safe for them to eat.
Approaching the rover, the boy soon spotted Gena sitting in the back, a smile appeared on his face as he drew closer and noticed that she too, was smiling. "Hey Gena!" he muttered in response to her greeting, pleased that it was her that he'd be accompanying outside the gates. He remembered her kindness on the ark, she'd been nice to him on the few occasions that they actually got to talk and he figured that she was better than some of the other people that he could be spending his time with. Climbing into the rover, he pulled the door closed behind him before taking a seat opposite the young woman, he was ready, as ready as he'd ever be. He laughed softly at her words "yeah, didn't think I'd ever have to do it again when I was recruited by engineering" he told her offering a small shrug of his shoulders.

"I couldn't do nothing!" Monty argued, raising his voice slightly. He couldn't understand why Bryan was fighting him on this, if he had the opportunity to save one of his own people then Monty doubted that he'd let that opportunity pass by, of course he didn't know him well enough to assume that. Bryan might be okay with standing back and watching one of his friends die but Monty was not. "She was alive when I went back for her, I had to try" maybe it had been stupid of him to run back into the village when he knew that the fog could kill him, but leaving Monroe to die alone like that wasn't an option, not for him, he didn't care who his actions upset. "She was calling for help..." that alone had been enough to make him go back for her, hearing her calling for him to help her, he couldn't just leave her behind.
Bryan's apology fell on deaf ears, he wasn't sorry, he was practically telling him that he was wrong for going back for her, that trying to save her life had been the wrong thing to do. "She was a good person!" Monty interjected quickly as he listened to the other boy talk "she was one of the best and if you were in her position then she'd go back for you" Bryan barely knew Monroe, Monty didn't expect him to understand why he'd gone back for her. Enough people had died already, he just hadn't wanted to watch another friend die, he thought that he could save her, but he'd been wrong. At the mention of his mother, Monty looked at Bryan in surprise, he hadn't seen his mother follow him into the fog, he'd heard her calling to him but he'd ignored her calls, he hadn't thought for a second that she'd chase after him. "I didn't ask her to do that" he eventually muttered in response "it was my choice to go back for Monroe, I didn't ask anyone to follow me" he wouldn't ask anyone to do that, especially not his mother, he'd already lost his father to the grounders and he wasn't about to lose his mother too. Part of him was grateful to Bryan for stopping her, maybe even for saving her life, but another part of him couldn't shake what the other boy was saying to him, Monroe's body was barely even cold and already Bryan was telling him that he should've just left her, without even trying.
