Monty wandered the halls of Mount Weather, unsure of where he was heading, he'd thought he was heading in the right direction to end up back in their room but he'd been walking for twenty minutes now and nothing looked familiar. Mount Weather was the safe haven he and the other delinquents had been hoping for, they didn't have to fight for their lives and everyone he'd met so far was friendly and had welcomed him and the others warmly. The only problem was that Monty was finding it extraordinarily easy to get lost within its walls, everything looked the same and although the ark had a similar problem, he'd had the advantage of growing up in that environment. This time, he was a stranger in an unfamiliar location and he was at a disadvantage. Making up his mind to ask the first person he came to for directions, Monty continued to search for something familiar that might tell him where he was and how far off course he'd gone.
Unfortunately, the first person he came to was a man who was dressed in the uniform of a guard and the idea of asking him for directions filled Monty with dread. The guards up on the ark weren't the most predictable and could react violently even without provocation- Monty had seen it happen and so he was initially wary when approaching the guard. "Excuse me-" he began, walking towards the guard and fighting back the anxiety that was building in the back of his mind. "I was wondering if you could point me in the right direction to my room, I'm think I'm lost" his words were polite, his tone light and friendly so that there was no way that he might be misunderstood or mistaken for being hostile. Hopeful that here were different to the ones he was used to.

Dalton was walking through the halls of Mount Weather on a patrol, making sure nothing was going on. Dalton had many jobs, doing whatever they needed him to do at the moment, but his main job was being a guard. Sometimes he had to watch security cameras, capture Grounders, or mechanical issues, but he mostly had to keep Mount Weather safe.
He kept his arms folded behind his back, in a guard's position, as he wandered the halls, calmly looking around as he passed by rooms. He heard someone walking up from behind him, but he didn't turn in case they were just passing by. He stopped walking and turned around when they spoke, since there was no one else in the halls. They had to be talking to him. He listen to him, and when he asked him to show him to his room, he considered refusing. His job wasn't to be an escort. He had been told to patrol the halls. But he studied the boy, and it was obvious that he was doing it, to see if he was a threat, and whether he should or not. The boy had been surprisingly polite, so Dalton nodded.
"Yeah, sure." He began to walk back the way he had come from, keeping his pace slow enough that the boy could easily follow. Keeping his hands behind his back, he glanced at the boy as they walked. He seemed somewhat familiar, though he wasn't from here.
"You're one of the people we picked up from the dropship," he realized, snapping his fingers as he recognized him. He had been the ground who had rescued the people from the ship wreckage after a fight with the Grounders. He hadn't been around them since they had brought them back, which is why Dalton had only faintly recognized him. He tried to remember faces, but seeing only a glimpse of the boy once hadn't been easy to remember him.
"You walked quite a ways from your room," he noticed, but he decided not to be too suspicious, since he had seen genuine. He could understand that it was easy to get lost in a place like Mount Weather if they hadn't grown up here.

Monty was apprehensive at first, not sure if the guard would want to help him or if he thought he was above giving someone directions. However, after a pause the man agreed to help him out, much to Monty's immense relief. "Thank you" he breathed the words out, trying not to make his relief seem too obvious to the guard as he eagerly followed him. It was almost intimidating wandering the halls of the unfamiliar base without someone he recognised by his side- next time he'd make sure to stay around people he knew and trusted. When the guard seemed to recognise him, Monty gave a small smile of acknowledgement "yeah that's me" he muttered, remembering how frightening the whole experience had been until he realised that the mountain men weren't actually a threat to them. "I guess I should thank you for that..." if they hadn't been picked up by the mountain men then he knew that there was a real possibility that he and his friends would have been slaughtered by grounders.
"I got turned around... Thought this was the way to our room, but apparently it's not" he explained himself, picking up on the subtle hint of suspicion in the guards tone. "I guess it's easy to get lost here when you're not used to it" or at least, he hoped it was because he'd somehow managed it. "I'm Monty, by the way" he introduced himself as they walked, figuring that if Mount Weather was to be his home then he had to make an effort to know and get along with the residents.

Dalton glanced over at him as they walked, not expecting him to be so relieved. Nothing bad would have happened to him walking around here, other than accidentally going into a restricted area. But wasting time wandering around the halls, going in the direction you didn't want to, would be irritating and stressful.
He shrugged, rolling his shoulders. "There's no need for it," he told him in his smooth voice, about saving them at the dropship. "I was following orders." He nodded at the boy's explanation, and he let his suspicion fade into the background. Still there, as it always was, but not evident.
"It is," he agreed. "It will take time to memorize every hall you walk. You will be able to find your way around here eventually," he assured him. He was being polite, much like the boy was. He didn't seem to be someone who would get on Dalton's nerves easily.
"I'm Dalton," he told him. He noted the boy's name, so he would be able to put a name to a face the next time he saw him. "How are you liking it here so far, Monty?" he asked him, leading him down the hallways.
