salvation comes at a price
Marcus was worried about what they would do to Jaha. Either they would be using him to verbally send a message--or they were going to send his body as one. Marcus needed to find out, but everything that had happened in the last 30 seconds alone had his head spinning. "You're the commander?" He asked the girl that he had thought was the slightly crippled water girl or something--in hindsight, he didn't realized he should have questioned harder why they left her with them. But he hadn't.
Marcus had come seeking peace, and one of the grounders that his men had caught, had kicked him in the face, and he had awoken here. Only to fall into this stone pit, and find Jaha--who Marcus had thought died on the Ark with no air--alive and also prisoner! The whole thing would be ridiculously amazing once he managed to make sure the man wasn't about to die here. "What are you going to do to him!?" He asked, with an urgent tone, though he knew enough to keep it respectful. Not submissive, but not authoritative. He was on in their camp now, and he didn't hold the power here.
The girl--who was no longer looking like a timid anything--was where he had addressed his question too. Her men where dragging Jaha out of the cold room, and Marcus wondered if this would be the last time he same his friend. If they would be killing him soon as well. He didn't know her intentions, but she was angry that one of his men--though he didn't know which one right now--had killed 18 villagers! He didn't know who would do such a thing, but right now he needed to keep Jaha alive, then he would deal with the village.

we do not have to be enemies
Marcus looked around the city as he road in, on the horse that they had been given. The north was colder then e thought, but he kept his back straight, and wasn't here to show cowardice. The city was massive, and the sight of so much of a civilization, left him in awe. He dismounted, and looked over at the sights of commerce and trade evidence mist the city. He looked around once more, before he was taken into the largest building, and the warmth from the fires eased the chill.
Marcus loved how the grounders had not only survived but thrived. If his people were going to do the same, they needed peace. Right now, he knew they needed to work with each clan to assure them they were not here to cause trouble. That peace was the best choice for them all. Peace would be what helped everyone surprise the coming months, without causalities on either side.
Once he was shown into the a large room, he noticed there was a throne, and woman sitting there. Marcus was surprised that the leader wasn't someone young, since that was how Lexa was, but he also was grateful. Perhaps she would be wiser in her choices. "Queen Nia," he said, with a bow of his head in respect to her status, "I was admiring your city on the way. It's the biggest I have ever seen, and looks to be filled with things that I have only read about, where I am from." He was impressed, and he wasn't afraid to admit that. Marcus didn't see that as a weakness, but politics. You always complemented the host of the place you were in.

you begged pike for this
Marcus was chained and lead out of the holding cell. Once he was pushing into the room, and saw Abby he felt relived to know that Pike hadn't turned his attentions to her, and that she was safe. "Are you alright?" He asked, checking on her first and foremost, as he looked over every ounce of her. He needed to make sure she was unharmed, and alright before he could move on. Before he could die in peace.
There had been a few times that he thought he would die, and each time he thought of his regrets. Mostly it was not having a family. He had come close a few times, but either ambition or his own stubbornness had come between them. Now, in the end, he realized he would leave this life having one more regret. He should have admitted to Abby sooner, just how much she meant to him. He would do it now, but in the final hours, it would only hurt more.
They had come so far in the months they'd been on Earth. He knew now that he loved her, and that if he had his way he would tell her that sooner. She was so beautifully stubborn, and he worried for her here under Pike's rule. He wanted to tell her to keep her head down, but he knew her too well. She would always push, and fight. He worried how Pike would react to that.
He wished more then anything that he could hug her once more, but the chains only allowed his hands to part so much, and he wouldn't be able to wrap them around her. As he got close to her, he paused before Abby and looked over every inch of her once more. Lifting both his hands, one of them touched her cheek. She looked upset. Part of him was glad to know that she cared--but the larger more dominate part wished she was far from this, and that he didn't have the power to hurt her.

salvation comes at a price
"She didn't." Marcus countered, "At first she might have kept you who you are, but you did he bidding, Jackson. She controlled you. She did it too all of us. You never would have lied to your friends, or hurt people, or do any of what you did without her in your head. She made us forget who we were. Jaha didn't remember his own son's name. Abby hung herself, to make her daughter talk. That is not who she was. Even if her priorities changed, that wasn't who we were." It was a long speech, but Marcus wanted him to know that he wasn't at fault for what he had done. None of them were.
Marcus sat there while Jackson put on his brace, and he hated to admit they felt better with the brace on. The brace supported him, and he was able to relax his muscles. "The young man I know, cared about saving people, and no matter what his priorities were, wouldn't have done harm to them . . . That's the man you are, Jackson. Don't let guilt tell you other wise."

salvation comes at a price
Marcus watched Clarke as she told him she didn't feel anything if she was hurt. He stepped closer, and pulled her in to him to hug her. He knew that right now she was feeling a range of things. He could understand on some level what she was dealing with. He had killed over 300 of his own people, and he had done it needlessly. If he had waited, they'd all be alive down here, now. But he had been so sure that there was no other way.
After a moment of just holding her, he pulled back and looked over what he could see of her. His hand ran down her arm, and then his palm touched her cheek as he cupped her face to tilted it to the side. "Nothing looks like it is bleeding." He told her, "But I know right now you're hurting. Lets get out people home, and we can work toward putting this behind us." Marcus promised his daughter. He wasn't going to let her deal with this alone.

salvation comes at a price
Marcus watched her as she said nothing. Nothing! She was just going to sit there and stare at him! It was clear she wasn't sorry for hat she had done! He had told her that he could try to save her, and she was acting as willful and stubborn as her daughter! Marcus stood back up to his full height, and looked down at her. She had gone to Nigel. "Why, Nigel? You knew that I was watching her. You knew that we were waiting for a mistake. She turned you in! You sold her morphine for a part, and she sold me you so I think she was on my side! Do you even know if that thing will make it to Earth?" He asked, watching her, trying to see if she was concerned about Rayes at all.
"You keep pushing, and pushing, but you are going to be the one to push yourself down. Eventually you will be beyond Jaha's help." He knew that Jaha favored Abby strongly. There was something there, and he knew it. Jaha excused Abby anything she did, when he hadn't even pardoned his own son! He didn't like favoritism. She had gone too far this time, but he knew Jaha wouldn't float her. After the long silence, he spoke again, this time his tone was clipped and direct. There was less anger and more resolve. She'd made the mess but he needed to know what they were deal with. "What did you send her down with? What is the plan?" He wasn't helping, but he was going to figure out if it worked. She wouldn't be allowed to do it since she was going to remained locked up for as long as he could manage it. Abigail Griffin wasn't going to get anyone else killed on his watch.
That didn't mean he didn't want her to be right. He did. He would be very willing to admit he was wrong. He wanted to be wrong. But if he wasn't, then everyone would die while waiting to see if Griffin was right. He didn't want to see more people die when they could act now and save the human race.

we do what we must
Marcus turned to look at her as she opened the door and welcomed him in. He gave a nod of his head as he entered in his own form of greeting. As he entered, he took a moment to look around her home, and take in the detail. They were so vastly different from his own, which held minimal personal things, and was mostly use used for functionality rather then a place of comfort. She had raised a family here, and it showed. Marcus had no family besides his mother, and he wasn't overly close to her anymore, finding her an uncomfortable reminder of regretful things. He did miss her at times, but he knew that any conversation he had with her would be turned toward her religion, and as a man of logic, he found it best to avoid his mother and the conversations--especially because she would then talk about his father. THAT he avoided at all cost.
"There was an council vote today," he got directly to the point, finally looking away from her personal things and to her face. He paused them, because this was harder then he expected. Unlike how most people painted him, he did feel things. He just controlled himself to not let it affect what had to be done. "The Ark is dying, and we need longer to fix it. We decided to use the smallest dropship and send 100 people to the ground. This will give us a brief window to decide on what to do next. We aren't hopeful that the ground will hold life, but if it can then we can work toward bringing the rest of us there" He didn't think Earth was ready. All the reports and estimations said it would be too dangerous still, and they could die within a matter of hours or days once landing.
He didn't bring up who they were sending just yet, as he wanted to let her see the logic of the idea before he told her that the people they were sending were the ones that Jaha referred too as expendable. They were the kids in lock up. Many of which wouldn't be pardoned, so this at least gave them a chance. Even if the odds were stacked very high against them. "The vote was unanimous." So even if she was there to vote against it, it wouldn't matter. "We launch in 15 days."

she is like a daughter to me
Marcus's body hurt everywhere. He watched as everyone was gathering, and wished he was a bit younger. If he had to die in a few months, he would like to see Earth first. But duty came before what he personally wanted; and he was getting old. He grinned to himself in an almost bitter sweet manner. Yes, he was getting old. He had lived a good life though, with limited regrets. Not being closer to his mother. Not having children. Though he took pride in the younger ones that he had the honor of knowing. Bellamy Blake was like a son to him, and he still worried about that one every day. He had a lot on him, and Marcus hated asking for more, but there was not many who would see this done to the extent that he would. Then there was Lilly. He had known her most of her life, and he thought of her like a daughter sometimes. There was a parental protectiveness over both Blake and Lilly.
Standing near the throne as everyone was coming in to hear the orders, and the plan, Marcus found himself looking at his two almost children. He was glad that Bellamy would be traveling with Kyle and Jackson. Kyle had asked to be placed with Blake, and Marcus had allowed it because he wanted Bellamy to have support. Kane had purposely not placed Echo in that group, because he didn't want Bellamy to have to face her again. Echo would be traveling as Lilly's scout, and he would have a word with her first, and make sure she understood what had happened, so she could make better choices.
No one knew their groupings yet, except for Kyle who'd made the request, so Marcus was still toying with the idea of putting Roan with Clarke or Bellamy. Bellamy would be more objective, but Clarke had worked with him before when she escaped Polis. He was staring at the Ice King, thinking about things in his head, when he heard another walking up and he looked over to meet the gaze of a grounder.

salvation comes at a price
Jackson's reasons made logical sense. Marcus could follow it without needed to overly imagine what it is like. Doctors saw the worst of things here sometimes. They would see every death sooner or later. He stayed silent while Jackson spoke, not wanting to cut him off, so he had a chance to express himself. Jackson diverted the subject when he was done, by talking about Marcus' wrist. They had hurt while Jackson had tended them, but Marcus had kept this flinching down to just breathing slowly to manage the tenderness. He was starting to think he had a low tolerance for pain.
Lifting his hand up he rested it on Jackson's forearm for a moment, but couldn't quite squeeze it in comfort. Instead he slowly lowered it while he spoke. "What happened while you were under her control, was ALIE and not you. We all did things that we would never even think about while in our own minds. She didn't just tell us what we wanted to hear, she took away who we were." Marcus paused for a moment, collecting his thoughts before speaking again, "Your humanity makes you a better person, Jackson, and a better doctor. If you don't value life, you wont take the same risks."

salvation comes at a price
Well that hurt, Marcus thought a bit dazed. He tried to move, and look around but it was dark, and something was pining him--and it hurt like hell. What had happened? He wasn't sure, but he knew everything had either exploed or caved in or . . . he really wasn't sure. He had hit his head and was only just waking up. Kane tried to call out, but the pain made it hard to yell. He had to find a way to tell people he was down here. Looking around, and found a metal bar above him, and if he pulled on it then it would bang into another while shaking. So he began doing it. And did it again, and again, and again.
He began to get dizzy from the pain, and it was hard to think clear. He went from moments where he was sure that he was in TonDC working toward a way to get the 48 kids, and the grounders, out of the Mount Weather--to moments when he thought he was back on the Ark and the power had just failed. He was growing cold, and the logical side of him knew that was a bad thing, but he couldn't recall why. Abby would know. Where was Abby? Wait--Why was he under rocks?! Was Abby here too? He tried to move, but couldn't! Something was pining him down. Wait....he had known that.
Shaking his head clear, he tried to think. He had to tell people he was here. Reaching up he pulled on the bar, over and over again, until he was doing it more then thinking about doing it. He did it until a hand touched his. Turning his head he saw Abby there. She was safe! For now. "Abigail?" He asked, almost afraid his mind was placing tricks on him. No. This was the ground. He was in TonDC. "I think something has me pinned." He doubted she could move it, but he needed her to try. If not then she needed to get out of here before it fell in on her head.

this girl is my destiny
Marcus Kane was livid. If there was anything he hated more then wasting time, it was being ordered to waste his time, and that was what this was. A waste of his valuable time. He was being sent to the medical bay, and ordered to get checked out. He promised himself (like he did every so often) that one day he would be the only one allowed to give himself orders. He was young and in his prime, so arrogance came naturally. He knew where he wanted to end up, and that was far from where he started.
You see, Marcus Kane had gotten his start when his mother--a soft spoken and too sweet girl--had fallen in love with his father. His father had been a dictator. He had controlled every aspect of Vera and Marcus' life until she had finally left him and turned to religion. For a while, Marcus had too, but the years with his father had left him needing more order in his life, and moving away from emotional beliefs towards logic. So as soon as he finished schooling, he joined the guard. He had been best in his class, and moved up the ranks quickly. People often commented (though if they were being honest or just trying to flatter, he didn't know) that he would reach the top long before most others. And it was true, he was almost in the rank of commander. The only thing above that was the head of the guard it's self. After that, the council, perhaps even one day chancellor if he started enjoying politics more. The Ark was at his feet, and the heights were limitless.
However, today while he was arresting an man for running a black market on the Ark, the man had fought back. That had been expected. The man having three friends had not been. Marcus now had a split lip, and bloody knuckles, and maybe a bruised rib. He didn't know, but he had been ordered to not continue working the case UNTIL medical cleared him. Which was why he was sitting in one of the rooms, waiting on the the doctor to read his file and join him. When she walked in, he paused for a moment, his anger leaving him slightly, as he was surprised. He had heard of the young doctor but not meet her before. "Doctor Griffin," he greeted, and found himself almost smiling.

a time to heal and move onwards
Marcus looked up when she entered, and his glaze dropped to her knee as she said his name, so he lifted his glaze back to her face. He liked that she called him Marcus now. Before it had just been Kane. This seemed more personable, and made him feel that she didn't see him as just someone who rivaled her, but someone she respected. Her respecting him was something he was hoping would continue. They needed to work together in order to move forward. Right now, what the people needed, was hope and stability. It was the later which kept him from pushing for power--and that he didn't have an issue with her being the chancellor. She was smart, and so far that had done them all well.
In fact there was only one issue that he took with her, and that was the fact that she was standing. She needed to be resting her knee as much as possible. Marcus had been having secret meetings with Jackson to get reports on how she really was doing, since Abby was so beautifully stubborn and only ever told him she was fine, while pushing through whatever emotional or physical pain she was having.
Pushing to a stand, he sat his cup down and held his hand out tot he couch--one he moved into the room so she could sit and lie down when needed. "Lets sit and talk," he encouraged, knowing from her tone that she was about to tell him something he might not agree with. He had learned that tone a long time ago, and while before he might have braced himself to hear what she would say; now he was sure they could work things out between them--as long as she did it sitting.

i had the same fears
Marcus let her led him to the bed, and then he sat on it, putting his jacket down beside him. There was a white bandage around his arm that Jaha had tired, and Lexa's healer had tended too, but he had over worked it recently and it seemed to have opened slightly. He knew that if it didn't get cleaned then it would become infected, which is why he had come in here. Kane was a bit surprised to see Abby working in here at a time like this. He didn't think she should be working dual jobs, but he wasn't going to fight her right now over power. He just wanted to see his people kept save, and he had faith--something his mother would be proud of--that hey could reach a agreement with Lexa.
He just needed Abigail to see that, and give his plan a chance. There would be no challenging her. She never did react well to that. She had sent Raven down here once in a rebellion--and while the plan had been smart, he didn't want a repeat. The people needed them working together, not at each other while fighting. He watched Abby as she moved away and gathered her things, and watched her intently as she came back. They needed to talk, but he didn't want to be brash and forward with her. He needed to make a point. "I never did ask why you imprisoned Jaha."
He had thought they would be getting along more now. Marcus had always wondered if Jaha had feeling for Griffin, but she had never given any sign that she saw the former chancellor as anything more then a dear friend. Which was why he was trying to figure out why she had him locked up right now, and not working together. A part of him was glad they weren't teaming up on him. He had assumed that would be how it was. He had even, upon a time, envied their closeness.

salvation comes at a price
Jackson seemed to hesitate from Kane's question, and Marcus looked up at the younger man's face. He clearly was affected by the question, and Marcus wanted if he had over stepped in asking it. Though Jackson did look up to meet his gaze and Marcus felt himself surprised by the answer. "I asked for it." Marcus didn't often react when surprised, but this time his brows furrowed in slight confusion. He wished he knew more about Jackson to understand why he would have asked for it, but sadly Kane had never really taken notice of anyone who hadn't directly stood in his way at some point. Jackson was Abby's co-worker. He hadn't really known more about him other then that he was strongly loyal to Griffin, and very good at his job. Unmarried.
Marcus hadn't needed to know more while on the Ark. Now, he wondered if Jackson had lost family either on the Ark or down here. "In the early days of this, then?" It wasn't a complete question, since most volunteers had done so in the beginning before everyone knew what they gave up. "Why did you ask for it?" There was more confusion then any judgment in his tone; as Marcus knew that there were only two reasons someone took the chip. They were trying to forget their pain, or trying to escape their demons.

salvation comes at a price
Marcus sucked in a deep breath when he felt how wet she was, and he spent a moment just toying with her, as he just savored the stolen moment alone with the woman that he was coming to be unable to live without. She gave a plea, telling him she needed him, and Marcus Kane was never one to leave a woman begging; so he found himself grinning. The feel of her hands in his hair, knowing that he didn't look so perfectly in place any longer, made him wish he could see them together. Savor this longer beyond their stolen moments.
Moving his hands from her, he took himself and adjusted so he could thrust up into her, before pulling her close so he could press deep. Exhaling at the feeling, Marcus found himself wishing this was again, something he could have. He should have married her when he had the chance, and he wouldn't be the one who went home to a cold and empty bed. Groaning, he began to move, at first just little pumps of his hips, and building up to a steady but strong rhythm of pulling out and thrusting deep. "Callie," he groaned her name, and moved his hand from her hip to support her back.
