It had been a hard three weeks since the fall of the mountain, but their people were coming out strong. Marcus stood at the doorway into the Ark and watched as a group of them were making a garden, while others were working on a well. The wall was becoming thicker to protect them, but the truce was holding. It seemed they had finally found peace. Marcus hoped it would last. They needed some hope right now.
Turning from the door, he walked into the metal halls of the fall space ship. His boot echoed with muted thuds as he moved deeper into the building to get to the work room that he and Abby had made into their office of sorts. He hoped she wasn't in any pain. She was so beautifully stubborn! The men in the mountain had drilled her (a sight that still gave him nightmares), and he was hoping that with the time that had past the pain was lessening.
He pushed into the room without knocking, and walked to the table. Proping up to half sit on it, Marcus looked over the map while taking a drink from the cup in his hand. He was alone in the room, but he knew Abby would join him soon. They had come so far since their battles for power on the Ark. He never dismissed what he did to her, or how close he came to killing the woman he now valued above most other people here. That was a lie. He knew that he loved her. The moment he had seen her on the table, he had known---she was something more then a friend.
Marcus Kane just didn't know what that was yet.

After the events that had taken place at Mount Weather, Abby was doing the best she could considering the circumstances. She had been through so much in the past few weeks. Hell, she had been through so much in the past few months for that matter. The fall of TonDC for one. That had nearly killed her and several other people that she cared about. Then right after, they had been abducted by the Mountain Men and taken to Mount Weather where she had been forced to watch as her people got drilled into, one of them being Raven. The loud screams of her people echoing and vibrating against her eardrums. Still, none of that had come close to preparing her for the pain that had come next. The feeling of the sharp drill penetrating her skin, penetrating her bone. The pain had been unbearable. Unlike anything she had ever felt before in her entire life. That memory still haunted her to this day. It had been a traumatic experience for her and one that would stay with her for the rest of her life.
Back in Arkadia, things only seemed to be getting worse for her. Not only did she have to deal with the aftermath of what had occurred in the mountain, she had also been informed by Bellamy Blake that Clarke was gone. Abby had been absolutely devastated by the news. Her daughter was gone. She couldn't believe it. Where could she have gone? The forest was littered with grounders. It was dangerous out there. She wasn't safe out there all alone. Right away, Chancellor Griffin had sent out several search parties in order to find and retrieve her daughter, but none of them had any such luck in finding her. This worried the eldest Griffin even further. Her daughter was somewhere out there in those woods and she had no idea where she was or if she was even okay. In all honesty, it hurt. A lot. She hadn't even bothered to say goodbye, not even to her mother or tell anyone where she was going. Where was she? What was she doing? Was she okay? Even though she was angry and hurt that Clarke left, Abby could hardly blame her. No, the grounders were to blame for betraying them. That betrayal had forced the youngest Griffin to make an impossible decision. A decision that had cost the lives of hundreds of innocent people. All those deaths on her hands, it was a rather heavy burden to carry on alone. Abby wished that Clarke had stayed and talked to her about it. Sure, Abby had her own issues to deal with, but her daughter's problems far outweighed her own problems. Unfortunately, there was nothing she could do about it now.
As Chancellor of Arkadia, she couldn't allow herself to fully grieve over the loss of her daughter. Being Chancellor meant that her top priority was her people, especially now because they needed her more than ever. Several people had been badly injured inside Mount Weather and as Head Doctor, it was her responsibility to tend to their wounds and heal them and she did. As their leader, it was her duty to assure the people that things would be okay. Three weeks had passed and there had not been any attacks from the grounders. The truce they had made with the grounders seemed to be holding. Though in Abby's opinion, that truce had been terminated the moment the grounders and the commander had betrayed them, leaving them all behind to die. So far, things seemed calm and peaceful, but how long would that last? Not long she imagined. Everyone liked to think that they could finally live in peace, but Chancellor Griffin knew better. The grounders could not be trusted and she refused to let her guard down just in case another attack occurred. They could easily attack at any time and when they did, she would be ready. For now though, she focused on her work. While she was busy working in medical, Marcus tended to the people and ensured the protection of their camp. Thicker walls had been built in order to better protect them and several of the stations were remade, including the farming station. They had even managed to find some old rovers that they used to go out on supply runs.
It was just another typical day in Arkadia as Abby made her way towards the building that contained the room that served as a work room and her office, which she now shared with Kane. She considered him to be Chancellor as well. Although she was still technically the Chancellor, he had become her co-leader. Working together, they both made decisions based on what was best for their people. They had developed a growing respect for each other. He gave his input and she listened and sometimes followed through with. It was also the same way for him. She gave her opinion and he listened and most times agreed with her and followed through with it. With everything they had been through together in the past year, they had developed a very close relationship to each other. Abby grew to care deeply for him. Some would say that she cared for him as more than just a friend. One thing was for certain though, she respected him both as a friend and as a fellow leader. Today though, she needed to discuss an important matter with him and it was that discussion that drove her forward.
Stepping inside the fallen spaceship, she made her way down the long hallway towards her office. Her steps echoed through the air as she walked confidently and with purpose. It wasn't long before she reached her destination and she quickly stepped into the room before shutting the door behind her so that they would be able to talk more privately and ensure that they wouldn't be disturbed. Once the door was securely shut, she turned to to face the man who she had once considered a rival, but now considered him to be a really good friends of hers. He was partially sitting on the table, gaze focused downwards as he admired the map that he held in one hand while the other held a cup. "Marcus." She spoke up in order to get his attention as she stepped further into the room towards him. Coming to a stop in front of him a few moments later, she prepared herself for what would no doubt be a heated discussion.

a time to heal and move onwards
Marcus looked up when she entered, and his glaze dropped to her knee as she said his name, so he lifted his glaze back to her face. He liked that she called him Marcus now. Before it had just been Kane. This seemed more personable, and made him feel that she didn't see him as just someone who rivaled her, but someone she respected. Her respecting him was something he was hoping would continue. They needed to work together in order to move forward. Right now, what the people needed, was hope and stability. It was the later which kept him from pushing for power--and that he didn't have an issue with her being the chancellor. She was smart, and so far that had done them all well.
In fact there was only one issue that he took with her, and that was the fact that she was standing. She needed to be resting her knee as much as possible. Marcus had been having secret meetings with Jackson to get reports on how she really was doing, since Abby was so beautifully stubborn and only ever told him she was fine, while pushing through whatever emotional or physical pain she was having.
Pushing to a stand, he sat his cup down and held his hand out tot he couch--one he moved into the room so she could sit and lie down when needed. "Lets sit and talk," he encouraged, knowing from her tone that she was about to tell him something he might not agree with. He had learned that tone a long time ago, and while before he might have braced himself to hear what she would say; now he was sure they could work things out between them--as long as she did it sitting.
