Marcus was going to check on Aurora and make sure things were in motion for her to move in with him. While he had not forgiven her for the lie, he was determined to make sure that nothing stopped them from moving forward. With time they could get past this! They only needed time to deal with everything between them. He had not left her because he had not felt something for her--he had done it because it would have ended both of their careers and he had not wanted to ask her to pick between her own and himself.
As he approached the door, he heard a voice telling someone they could make them, and he paused. Looking in he saw what was happening--and without needing to know more, he just reacted. Marcus didn't care that their were rules, he only saw that one of his officers were pressing her against the wall, and her face didn't hold passion. It was fear. Marcus walked forward and put his hand on the back of Grus' head and pushed it forcefully into the wall to the side of him. As Grus fell, Marcus grabbed his shirt, and hit him him. And then again. And then once more for his own satisfaction. Once the man had let her go, Marcus reached out to pull her behind him. "I think explanations are in order, Officer, and I would suggest you select your words with care." Though either way they were likely his last. Marcus was going to float the man for this.

Marcus picked up his breakfast and took a bit of it. He had a late start to his morning today, because the planning for something went late into last night. He was getting too old to stay up all night, be he felt it this morning. Still, Marcus never let himself appear as tired or stressed as he felt. As per his normal, his hair was neat, his clothing clean and free of any wrinkle. He liked things clean, neat and in order. Thankfully, he had a wife who did so as well, thus everything in his life was perfect.
Hearing a knock, he moved to the door and opened it. With a smile, he stepped back so his son could enter. "Bellamy, you just missed your mother." He told him, shutting the door behind his son. Walking back tot he table he gestured to some of the food. "Eat something, so I don't get scolded for not eating it all." The Ark didn't have much food to spare, so there was not a lot on the table. Even still, Marcus liked to see his family first first. Then he always knew he had taken care of them. Thankfully his job paid well, and they never lacked for food unless there was an Ark wide shortage. Even then, his son had always ate first. It was his job as a father, and husband to make sure of it.

Marcus stood in the hall, and watched the encounter before him. It hurt to not be in there with them, but he knew that sometimes a father just needed time alone with his son. He had never thought to see his own again, and upon finding out that he was alive, Marcus has cried. Braeden had come to tell him, and once he could function he had told the guards that his son would be realized. That they would be helping Bellamy Blake Kane find his daughter and the others. He also told them that before he was let out that they would be having a moment. So Marcus gave Bellamy all the time he needed with his son, before stepping in. "Braeden if you will take Amaren outside, his father will join him there shortly." Marcus asked of her, in a stoic voice. He watched the wife kiss her husband once more, and father and son have another hug before she carried Marcus' grandson out, and the door closed but didn't lock behind her. Marcus looked at his son, and felt the emotion harder to hold back. He wanted to tell him that he was stupid for taking the rick, and that he was the bravest man he had ever known for doing it. He wanted to tell him that he was disappointed that Bellamy had not come to him, but proud of what he had done with nothing but his determination. Instead Marcus stepped forward and took his son in a deep hug, and held him tight to him, while a few tears fell over his face.

“Senior Office Kane.” Marcus looked up when the door opened--and then looked over her head. She didn't have pants on. He was certain of it. Aurora opened the door and let him walk in and he almost didn't but the idea of her standing there like it when the door was open so anyone could see when they walked by didn't sit well with him so he stepped in. “Of course I have a moment. Take a seat, please. Do you want something? A drink?” She turned to walk toward the table, and Marcus' eyes fell over her back side.
She was wearing pants of some sort but they didn't count as pants. He made his eyes jump back to her face before she turned around. "No, I came to talk to you about tomorrow as I am changing a few things, and I want to make to make sure that everyone knows what is expected." Maybe if they sat he wouldn't have to see her not there pants. Only thing about them. A lot. Walking over to the table, he pulled out a chair and waited for her to sit before sitting. "I want you to cover the kids' masquerade rather then the hall. We want the kids to have fun, without getting out of control." Which was why he was putting her there. She looked less stern then Shumway.

Amaren was five, and a bundle of excitement--just like his father had been at that age. Marcus shifted him higher up in his arms and paused to let the young boy talk to a passerby. They commented on how much a like Amaren looked like Marcus, and both boys smiled, pleased with the assessment. There was nothing that could ruin this day for Marcus. Granted there was a sickness going around but it was mild. Even his wife currently had started showing some signs of it, so to make sure that the bundle of energy didn't get sick, Marcus was keeping him away. Marcus didn't knock on his son's door. No one was supposed to be at home, so he was just going to go in and make himself at home. Bellamy wouldn't mind. He knew it. It would be one thing if Bellamy Blake Kane and his wife had planned some alone time, but he knew Braeden was spending the day with her father and Bellamy was supposed to be at work. Marcus was so sure of that, that he had not even check their ID tags to double check himself. Which was why he entered the code, and carried his grandson across the doorway, before letting the door shut behind him. That was the moment. That was the moment that change this life. That he realized just how little he knew about his own family. About his own son.

Callie was sick. When someone got sick on the Ark they were put in medical, and visitors were forbidden because any spread of infection could cause an outbreak. It was a mild sickness, and she would be out soon, but until then Marcus knew someone had to keep an eye on cassandra, Callie's daughter. He had tired to find someone appropriate, but in the end couldn't and so it would be him and her for a few days. How hard could it be to take care of a teenage girl for a few days? Marcus entered in the code and walked into Callie's place. Space was tight on the Ark, but as Callie was one of the privileged, she had a bit more space then most. He spotted Cass on the couch, and walked over too her. "You'r mother's has come down with strep throat. She will be in medical for a few days." He told her, trying to make sure his voice was softer so the news wouldn't worry her. "Doctor Griffin thinks that she will be find in a few days, but until then you will be staying at my place." Because she wasn't trusted on her own. He didn't think she would do anything to break the law, but there were boys who she might invite over, or who knew what trouble she might get into.

Marcus paused outside the cell in the Skybox and looked around. Within an hour this place would be raided and emptied. He knew it, and Cass knew it too. She had not be arrested long, but with her knowledge Jaha would not pardon her. Marcus had asked, and he hated that he had to do it. Marcus hated asking for things. He hated breaking the rules. He hated that she couldn't have kept things alone. His fist tightened over the jacket in his hands, and he took a deep breath before punching in the code and walking into the cell and his eyes finding cassandra. No one was getting to say goodbye to their families, but he knew Abby Griffin would be seeking out her daughter, and he figured Callie would be here soon enough. This was his moment. "Cass," He greeted, standing there. He disapproved of a lot about her, but apart of him had come to love her. She could have done something great with her life if she had managed to curve her rebellious nature. He didn't like saying goodbye, but he managed to remain stoic and impassive while standing there. He knew that he had to make sure she was ready for this, and he only had a few moments to do it.

Marcus walked along the hall, moving toward the next cadet on his list. He was making rounds tonight to make sure that everyone knew what was expected tomorrow, as this was their first working shift as cadets. He was switching some things up, so he wanted to personally talk to each and everyone one of them about making sure everything went perfectly tomorrow. Their smoothness meant it looked well on him--if they screwed up then he looked bad and he would take it out on them. There was less chance of that if he told them each what he expected.
He knocked on the last door, and wanted for her to open it. Blake, Aurora. She was good. He could see her moving up quickly when she made the guard. When. Not if, because it was clear she was going to make it though he had not told her that. You could tell about some. You could see when they had what it took, and when they lacked the ability to do what needed to be done. When the door opened, he looked up with a slight smile; "Do you have a minute?" He asked, though it was clear by his tone that this wasn't a request.

"Does he know?" Bellamy asked, "No. We told everyone at once. The council decided it would be best if they waited to see who volunteered before asking anyone to take leadership. This mission has a high risk factor and because of that no one will be asked to join it. It's volunteer only. That being said, he does have friends on the council, and I would imagine they have hinted at him toward this by now." Though Marcus would have to be the one to formally offer him the role, as only he had that power. "We can speak to him later if you want to join me. It will be your mission, it might be best if you begin treating it like now, rather then later." Meaning he was asking him to take the leadership role now, so that everyone was sued to following his orders.
"Has anyone else volunteered or would be expected to be the ones to do so?" Moving toward one of the screens, Marcus entered in his code and the volunteer list came up. There were not many names on it, but it had only been half an hour since he made the speech and he knew many would take the time to think on it. Sure enough Shumway's name was there, along with 15 others. Including Braeden Quinn. She had been one of the first to move forward and volunteer.
"I have held the council off as long as I can about making any other leadership choices. I want you to be able to sit on on the meetings and make them based on how you see things. You will need their approval, so be ready to defend your choices." Because if they disagreed they could out vote him. "I will add your access to the volunteer list and tonight you can look over it. By tomorrow you should have enough names to know who is going and who is not." He gestured to the map that was on the large screen beside where they were. It was blurred out, with the Ark seal over it, but Marcus trusted his son too see everything before the paperwork was signed to stop him from talking. "Do you want to know more about the mission now, or would you rather wait for a formal presentation?"

Marcus couldn't stop looking at her. She looked like her mother. He had a daughter. "I'm telling you now," One that was locked up until she was 18, but he could change what happened afterwards. The council would vote to float her, he knew that, but if he could sway the vote--speak in her favor, he could change things. It wouldn't hard, there was many who wanted favors owed by him and he could give them that. He wasn't sure about what might happen if this failed, but he wouldn't let it. Worst case he'd go to Jaha himself and ask for a pardon.
He would need to think about this before he acted on it. "The real question it . . . " Black walked closer to him, and Marcus finally looked up at him. "What are you going to do about it?" He didn't know. He needed to think, and Marcus wasn't a man of impulse. Right now he could only think about how Aurora had lied to him. "I'm not going to abandon her, if that is what your asking. I don't know anything more then that right now." He looked back down at the photo. "How long have you known she was my daughter?" Did Octavia know who her father was? He would find out soon enough because he would be going to see her shortly. What did one say to a teenage daughter?

"Thank you, for this honor." Marcus nodded his head, but he knew the honor was in having such a son as Bellamy. "I won't let you down," Reaching out, Marcus put his hand on his son's shoulder. "Of that I never had a moment's doubt." Marcus told him honestly. "And I like everyone else, have faith in your actions here." That made him feel pride, but a weighted one, because he did not want to fail his son. Because if he was wrong about this then he was sending his son to die. "I will do everything in my power and capability to keep you confident in your choice." Marcus laughed a short sound, "Not just mine. The whole council agreed that you had showed promise, and that you'd have the best judgment to send down. It was a vote that everyone backed."
However, "They have decided to appoint Officer Shumway as your second." Marcus knew there was some ill feelings between the men but he hoped they could put that aside for this mission. The vote had been strong for that one and he had not been able to over rule it. Bellamy would have the power to undo this once on the ground, but only with in reason. "The rest of the council will be made up of each department's head. Once we know who has volunteered he will give you the official listing, and you can sit in on the session to give you're approval and recommendations. They will be your team after all."

He wasn't sure it is was a trait he got from his mother (which it most likely was) or if it was something he got from his father, but either way, Bellamy got right to the point. "You'll need someone to head the team being sent to Earth." Marcus turned to fully face Bellamy and watched him as he kept going. Marcus made sure that his face was impassive, and did to hint that this was something he already had expected of his son. "I'd like to volunteer." It was Earth. The risk alone was one Marcus would take if he could, but he was needed here and knew he could not volunteer.
Marcus walked forward slowly, and came to rest before his son. "We have spent many hours in the last week talking about this mission, and planning it. We know exactly who we want to lead it." He told Bellamy, giving the moment a slightly dramatic air become smiling, "I just wanted him to volunteer before I asked this of him, so I knew this was what he wanted." Because Bellamy was his son, and he had proven himself to be a man of honor and lawful. The guards serving under him held him in respect and did not fear him. They followed him because they wanted too.
It made him have everything needed for the job. "The council has already agreed to back you should you wish the job. I can't say I am thrilled you are going, because I risk you loosing my son--but I have to have faith that this will work, and that I will join you there within a few months."

Marcus Kane, the newly appointed Chancellor of the Ark walked to the center of the room, and faced the crowd of select members of population. When he spoke, it was in a calm vice, with measured words. "The Ark is dying." The told them, getting directly to the point, and not giving them too much time to think on it and panic. "For almost a year now we have had engineers working around the clock to try and fix what is wrong. We have failed. Because of this, we are planning a mission to attempt to recolonize Earth." He paused once more, to allow them a second to react to that. "I know that we have all been taught in school that Earth needs another 100 years before it is ready for human life, but the Ark will not last two. We will be putting together a team to go down to Earth. The dropship has 100 seats, and it is volunteer only. We need medics, mechanics, farmers, guardsmen, and many more jobs filled. Because of the risks involved, we ask that all volunteers be over the age of 18 and have no children in their care. More information will be given to the volunteer, for everyone else this is classified and you will be tried for treason if you leak this information." With that he turned and headed out, leaving everyone to have their time to make their choice. It had been a hard speech and he knew that there wasn't a lot of of information to give them, but the less that had the risk of being leaked, was the less the population had a chance to panic over. He went back to the council room and exhaled loudly, moving to one of the boards that held some of the information on it. He wasn't sure how long he was thinking about things alone, before the door opened and his son walked in. Of this he was not surprised. He knew what was coming, and while he didn't like the risk of his son going to Earth--he also knew that there was no one else he trusted more to lead them on the ground. He wasn't going to tell Bellamy that until he made his choice however. Bellamy had to make this choice on his own before Marcus would tell him anything else. Bellamy Blake Kane had known the Ark was dying for almost a year. He had been in charge of protecting the Engineers. So the shock of finding out the Ark was dying was less for him then the general population. "Son," he greeted, and watched him.

"So you're telling me that seventeen years ago, you didn't have relations with Aurora Blake?" He was not about to tell the son of Aurora Blake that 17 years ago he met up with his mother at an Unity Day event, lost control and took her against the very wall the kid was now standing near. Instead Marcus only stared him down and opted not to kiss and tell.
"It isn't a coincidence, and this isn't something you can just deny." No! It had to bed, because . . . because of reasons that he damn well didn't know but they had to be there! He wasn't a father! He wasn't a father to an illegal child! He wasn't! He knew it wasn't sound agreeing, but he damn well wasn't! A DNA test could be done by him without even needing to leave this room! Which was he was going to damn well do. "My mother is already dead," Marcus was all too aware of that. He had made sure the boy was floated but Blake was pushing his luck. "Don't let the same happen to your daughter." He didn't have one, and if he did then he would have damn well protected her better then hiding her in a room for 16 years!
Marcus took a deep breath, one that spoke at how annoyed he was, before walking away from Bellamy and reaching for his tablet. "Your accusations are easy enough to disprove." There he brought up Octavia Blake's files. One of the standard practices when finding an legal child was to always put them through s series of medical exams and see what no vacationists or little supplies had done to their bodies. Marcus was about to prove that Blake was lying and then find some suitable punishment for this how thing! However, the second he looked at her blood type he knew. It was a rare type.
Marcus' body language sifted--it was subtle but not so minimal that it wasn't noticeable. Before he had been stiff, formal and confidant. The moment he noticed the blood type he knew that Blake was telling him the truth, and he shock caused him to feel like he was floundering a bit. He had a daughter. He was a father. His hand moved to zoom in on the photo of her girl and he really looked at her. Not just at her file, but looked at her face. Good gosh she was beautiful. She was his daughter. He knew he needed to say something, or do something to regain control over this moment but he couldn't. "Why didn't she tell me?" He asked in a low voice, that held both regreat, and confussion, and loss, and anger; and somehow all at once.

Marcus was taking off his coat when he heard a voice speak his name. Looking up he saw that she had come from the darken bedroom. He had thought she might not be here, but for the moment she was. Looking over her, he could see she was upset, though for one of the first time in their relationship he didn't move to comfort her. He wasn't sure of his welcome, and he was hurt that she'd not only pushed their son away, but had given Bellamy the unwanted thoughts that he was hurting his parents by trying to do what he believed was right.
It left him unsure at how he was feeling. Too wary to be angry, too hurt to be her support, and in need of her too much to stay away. He wasn't sure if she was leaving him, or what she was planning. "I wasn't sure if you'd be here." He told her honestly, not sure what to expect from her, and thus dictate this own actions.
