Marcus stood in the hall, and watched the encounter before him. It hurt to not be in there with them, but he knew that sometimes a father just needed time alone with his son. He had never thought to see his own again, and upon finding out that he was alive, Marcus has cried. Braeden had come to tell him, and once he could function he had told the guards that his son would be realized. That they would be helping Bellamy Blake Kane find his daughter and the others. He also told them that before he was let out that they would be having a moment. So Marcus gave Bellamy all the time he needed with his son, before stepping in. "Braeden if you will take Amaren outside, his father will join him there shortly." Marcus asked of her, in a stoic voice. He watched the wife kiss her husband once more, and father and son have another hug before she carried Marcus' grandson out, and the door closed but didn't lock behind her. Marcus looked at his son, and felt the emotion harder to hold back. He wanted to tell him that he was stupid for taking the rick, and that he was the bravest man he had ever known for doing it. He wanted to tell him that he was disappointed that Bellamy had not come to him, but proud of what he had done with nothing but his determination. Instead Marcus stepped forward and took his son in a deep hug, and held him tight to him, while a few tears fell over his face.

my family MY RESPONSIBIITY Since landing on the ground, Bellamy had known he needed to be strong. For his daughter. For the others. So he had kept himself stoic, withheld his emotions so that he could remain logical, rational. It was a skill learned through his training on the Ark, and his father. Being over emotional could lead to poor, impulsive decisions and so he hadn't allowed himself to get to that point. But the moment those doors were open, the moment he saw his son exclaiming his excited statement in reference to who Bellamy was to him . . . the moment he ran to him and the moment Bellamy crouched down to greet his son with open arms . . . that was when Bellamy could hold it in no longer. He had held Amaren to him, and tightly shut his eyes. That, was when the few tears started to spill. It was a mix of emotions, reflecting everything that had happened. He had not cried when he said goodbye to his wife and son.
He had not cried when finding out his daugher was missing. But now . . . it was as if a floodgate had been opened. He couldn't contain his emotions any longer. He hadn't thought he'd be able to hold his son in his arms again, and yet, here he was. The safety of Braeden and Amaren was his saving grace. He had failed in protecting his daughter . . . yet right now, the joy of holding his son trumped everything, even if it was just for a few moments. Bellamy hadn't even realized right away that Marcus had stepped inside.
Not until he felt someone gently start to pull away. There was a surge of fear that coursed through him over being separated from his son, but when he saw it was Braeden, Bellamy willingly -- albeit still a bit reluctantly -- let him go, rising to his feet. His gaze now fixed on his father. He didn't know what Marcus was going to say. Bellamy had lied to him by withholding his plans and disappeared onto the dropship. Hell, Bellamy had been lying to his father since discovering Braeden was pregnant with a second child. Would it cause his father to be angry with him, even now?
Bellamy clenched his jaw, looking at his father, trying to anticipate what he would do. The relief of seeing him alive though . . . it made Bellamy want to be the one to run to him, just as Amaren had. It made Bellamy want to be the young child that sought out his father when he was afraid, happy, relieved, sad, and all the other emotions. Bellamy wanted the comfort of his father's arms, just as Amaren had sought out Bellamy's. Yet he didn't move. He couldn't. He just stood there, watching, feeling as if time slowed.
Then, his father started to approach him. Wordlessly, he wrapped his arms around Bellamy, as if silently knowing it was exactly what the sole Kane son needed. Bellamy immediately responded, his arms wrapping around his father as he closed his eyes once more. A few more tears fell from his eyes, squeezing them tightly shut, letting out a heavy breath that encompassed so much. He needed this, he needed his father right now. He needed his love. So Bellamy basked in it. He'd been so worried he wouldn't get this chance again, and now that he had it, he never wanted to let it go.

Marcus held his son tightly, and tried to not think about the fear that he had felt until an hour ago, when he didn't know if his son was alive, or dead. He tried not to think about anything else but that Bellamy was back in his arms and he could do everything he could to protect him again. It was his job as a father to protect his son! But it was this thought that reminded him that was what Bellamy had been doing. Protecting his daughter.
Which wasn't here now.
Marcus held him tighter for a moment before pulling back and lifting his hand to touch Bellamy's face for a moment, then dropping it down to his shoulder. "There was so much I wanted to tell you in this moment," He told his son, his voice sounding ticker, from the emotion he was only just holding back as best as he could. "But the only thing I can think of is how grateful I am to see you." His hand moved to pull Bellamy's coat tighter around him, because even after more then 20 years of being a father, Marcus still worried that his son wasn't warm enough.
He knew he had to talk about things quickly though, because if Marcus was glad to see his son, he knew his son was missing his daughter--and as he had just come from that fear, he would do anything to help his son ease it. "The guard is going to be ready in an hour for you to debrief them and lead them out. We are still pulling a lot of our weapons from the crash, but we will have enough to go out in force within an hour. Perhaps even less." Which meant he had time to see his son before they went back out.

my family MY RESPONSIBILITY He knew they couldn't stay like this forever. But in this moment, Bellmay was just allowing himself to be the son, the small boy he had once been afraid of a bad nightmare and seeking out his father's arms in comfort. The moment drew to it's inevitable end as Marcus pulled back, his hand touching his face and Bellamy felt the immediate comfort of it. He didn't see disappointment or anger in his father's gaze. Bellamy was fully aware that he deserved it, but instead, Marcus spoke words that made Bellamy slightly nod, for the feeling was mutual.
"Me too, dad." Because in this moment, he was his father. No one else; just his father. No high ranking official, not his superior. His father. His family, that he never thought he would see again either. But Bellamy was lucky. So damn lucky that his father, mother, wife, and son had all come down safely. And yet, he couldn't protect the one family member entrusted to him. It made him feel sick, disgusted with himself.
And all the more determined to bring her home. Bellamy's own face held so much emotion, one that started to sober when the next important subject was brought forth. "A lot has happened." That was an understatement. "We have reason to believe that the Grounders have the delinquents." That they had his daghter. "I need as many people and weapons as you can spare." Because the Grounders had numbers. But now with the Ark down here . . . they stood a chance. A real chance.

Bellamy agreed, saying that he too had much he wanted to say, but not much time to say it in---and his thoughts had left him. Like father, like son it seemed. "A lot has happened." Tht is has, and with limited radio contact, there was much that Marcus needed catching up on. Both as a father and as the new leader of Camp Jaha. "We have reason to believe that the Grounders have the delinquents." It had been suggested as much, but he need to have logical reasoning behind every order he gave. He could not let his first order be sending men blindly out--but he trusted Bellamy, and knew that his son would not say that the grounders had their people, if he wasn't sure they did not. "I need as many people and weapons as you can spare." From the looks of the few people they had saved, he was willing to bet they needed more then they had right now.
It was hard to let go of his son, but Marcus knew they had to move on. He had a granddaughter that he had never officially met, and he wanted to get her back. Once they were all back and safe under the Ark's room then he could spend time in peace with his family. Slowly, and finally, Marcus let go of Bellamy, taking in a deep breath to help him switch from being a father to being an officer. To being chancellor.
"Follow me," Marcus had told Braeden to wait outside, but he knew she knew what was coming and that Bellamy needed to be busy before moving out. Marcus walked out of the holding room, and down the halls. "As chancellor I already pardoned you and the kids sent down. You need to take your rank back up and join the guard so you can lead them." Because Bellamy was a damn good officer, and he trusted him to keep a clear head, even while looking for his daughter. "A lot of people are impressed with how you managed to keep so many kids alive for as long as you did. I didn't agree with sending them down, but nor did their parents. Many were outraged that their children were sent. Incuding Officer Miller, who will be going out as your second in this mission, while looking for his son." Once they got into a room with some maps tossed around, Marcus pulled out one of them and spread it out. "Quickly catch me up on what happen since we lost radio contact, then you can join the men."

my family MY RESPONSIBILITY Bellamy followed his father's instructions, behind him as he began to explain that he had already pardoned him and the kids that had been sent down. "Thank you," Bellamy nodded, not wanting to take that for granted. He was genuinely grateful to his father for it. He then spoke of how he needed to take his rank back, and join the guard so that he could lead them. He understood the title, but at the same time . . . wasn't sure about carrying that official rank. Not like this. "With all due respect Sir, I didn't keep them safe as a member of the guard." He did it, just as a person. "I will take back my rank when I am worthy of it. When I have safely brought the others back." Only then, would he deserve the position. Because until then, he was a failure.
Despite his father's next words. Bellamy's jaw clenched with emotion, unable to focus on how he kept them safe . . . because he hadn't. They were gone. Possibly dead. He feared having to explain that to the parents; having to see the pain in their faces upon not having the long awaited reunion with them. "We lost a lot of them," Bellamy stated. Unable to ignore that fact. More were most likely daad too. But one named at least perked up some familiarity, because Miller's son was one of Bellamy's trusted seconds. "Nathan Miller?" He asked though already knew the answer to it. "He was one of my seconds," Bellamy revealed. Not officially through rank of course, but he was one that Bellamy trusted more than many others.
When he pulled out the map, Bellamy looked over it, his finger going to one spot. "This is how far we got from the drop ship," he began to explain. "The Grounders were taking me and the other to their Commander. I don't know where exactly that is though." He searched over the map, concealing the frustrated at not being able to do more . . . to know more. "We've only scouted this far," he furhter explained. "John Murphy, the delinquent I attacked earlier, has been to the Grounder camp before. He might know more." Before Bellamy beat the shit out of him.

"Thank you," Marucs knew his son well. He could hear the weight of it in his voice, just as he could hear the unspoken words that went with it. "With all due respect Sir, I didn't keep them safe as a member of the guard." Anything that started with 'with all due respect' meant someone was going to disagree with him, and he didn't like it. "I will take back my rank when I am worthy of it. When I have safely brought the others back." Of that Marcus would have a chance to disagree with later. He wasn't asking his son to take back his rank. He was telling him.
However they were talking about the kids now. "We lost a lot of them," He knew it wasn't easy to loose anyone, much less a bunch of kids. "Nathan Miller?" "Yes, his father was a guard in alpha station, I am sure you remember him." "He was one of my seconds," As his father would be now. Marcus found it telling that Bellamy didn't 'keep them safe as a member of the guard' but he had seconds. There was his training.
"This is how far we got from the drop ship," Bellamy began explaining things, and Marcus listened intently, knowing that Bellamy would need to give this save speech to others later so the men he led out were aware of what was happening. "The Grounders were taking me and the other to their Commander. I don't know where exactly that is though." Marcus had heard of that, and was enraged that they had treated his son so. It didn't make him feel comfortable at what they might do to his granddaughter. "John Murphy, the delinquent I attacked earlier, has been to the Grounder camp before. He might know more." Which brought Marcus around to his point from before, and to his opening to making sure Bellamy understood this wasn't favoritism toward his son. It was an order from the chancellor to an officer.
Leaning over the table between them, Marcus braced his hands on it while still standing tall. "Son, I need to make the situation here very clear. Since we lost contact we have had council members bombing the Ark, treason, thief of the exodus ship, and civil unrest among what is left of the people that didn't die when the Ark lost full power for three days. The only thing keeping many in line is the hope of seeing the kids, and of us establishing a safe camp here. You might not have acted as a guardsmen down here, but right now what the people are seeing in you is a man who kept most the kids alive, and fought back the grounders. They are scared, and acclimating to a world you know better then anyone else here."
"Part of being a leader is taking responsibility not only for every life lost, but for every life saved as well. You don't get to take the guilt, but not the rest. I need you now. Not as a father, but as a new chancellor who needs a head of the ground unit for guardsmen, and a man sitting on the council who knows what we are up against." Marcus paused for a moment, standing taller once again. "Nor am I going to aim a civilian. I need you, son. I need you to take your rank back, lead the guard to get my granddaughter and the others back, and them come back and help me keep as many alive as we can. If they are going to wage a war, and I hope they see our grown numbers and weapons and back off, but if we must . . . then I need you by my side."
