The wind brought the scent of rain. Thankfully, it was not a sign of a coming storm. Just a rainfall to give water to the crops. Malia studied the farming fields, her arms folded as she watched the farmers work.
The neighbouring Clans were inching closer to Trishanakru territory and war seemed to be on its way. A few of her guards were injured or ill, so she had sent Mikah, her second-in-command, to get another guard for her. She had always hated having people following her around everywhere; it distracted her. But she knew it would give Mikah peace of mind to know she was being guarded, and she was a target for enemy Clans.
She glanced behind her shoulder to see Mikah bringing a warrior to her. He seemed young, maybe around her age. She narrowed her eyes slightly at the warrior, both trying to remember his name and studying him.
"This is Ilian," Mikah told her, stopping a few feet away. "He is going to be guarding you."
Malia studied him, making sure he seemed like a good enough guard. There were no obvious flaws to the guard that would become a weakness in fighting, so she nodded to Mikah. Her second-in-command left them there, and she straightened up her back.
"Follow me, Ilian," she instructed, strolling away. She may as well get her work done now that she wasn't waiting on Mikah anymore. She didn't look back to make sure he was keeping up.

What John said seemed to anger her. "We are not fools, John of the Sky People," she said, her eyes narrowed, her voice almost snapping at him. "I was going to have you transport the items to my village. I would not have my people carrying explosives on horseback." She gave him something close to a glare, clearly thinking that he had insulted her intelligence. "The use of the weapons is entirely up to us. Whether we use them on villages or not is my decision. I do not care what you think." Malia did not want to kill innocent people, but Azgeda had killed many of hers. She was not going to spare the innocents when Azgeda had not. They did not deserve it.

Well, he knew at least something. That would help. She did not know anything about the illness, other than that it was killing her people.
"I do not know more than you do. Everything we have tried as failed to do anything against the illness. We know nothing about it, not of its origins or how to stop it. If you could show my healer how to slow down the spreading of the disease, I would be grateful. Nothing we have tried has worked."
She did not bother to hide the fact that she knew nothing about the disease. It was frustrating, and even more so that Trikru knew more. It was beginning to prove that she was a terrible leader, and she hated that. She should have figured out at least something.

Malia snapped her head up when the girl moved, her hand going to her spear automatically. She stared at her, tense and ready to move. But the girl did not seem to be attacking, rather just being jumpy from when Malia originally moved. She slowly lowered her hand, but kept her gaze on the Sky Girl. She moved a bit away from the fire, going further from the girl. She did not want to be anywhere near her. She pulled out a knife, and sharpened it using a stone, the shrill scrapping sound filling the cave. It was off to their ears, but she did not let that stop her from sharpening her knife, though the sound could be uncomfortable. She did not reply to the girl, scoffing internally. "Leiana" did not seem to know anything, at least about the acid fog. She did not feel the need to reply to her. She was good at this, keeping quiet around strangers. Nothing, not even torture, could make her talk.

Malia automatically flinched away from the weapons as soon as they were revelled.
"We are not using those," she said in her language, a mix of emotions rushing over her. For that split second her mask had broken, and raw emotion was evident on her face. Her second-in-command, Mikah, murmured to her.
"We would have a greater advantage over Azgeda if we did. I know you do not like it, but this is how we will win this war."
Malia bit her lip, her mask resurfacing on her face. "Fine."
To the Sky People, she said, "You have a deal. Some of my people will learn how to use these. The weapons will be kept in our weaponry, under guard. No one will go near without my permission. In exchange for your help, we will assist you in surviving here."
It was evident that she was not expecting the weapons. She had not had a good experience with these, and so she was...wary and afraid of them. She hoped that nothing would go wrong, since these were very dangerous. Mikah was right, though, because Azgeda would not have these. They might have a chance of defeating them now.

Malia studied the man, John, for a moment. He seemed a bit bold to her, but she could say the same about many others.
"John kom Skaikru," she greeted him, but without the respect he had shown to her. "How is this enough for an army? A few more warriors is not sufficient enough to make a difference in the odds of winning this war. Azgeda's army is large. Are there others who are willing to fight with us? I doubt this deal will work if you lack men on your side."
By 'men', she meant all people, not just the male population. Though most warriors seem to be men, by fault. She studied the people John had brought with him. Five people, in total. This would not work with such little numbers. Malia already had an army. She had wanted allies, another army, to join them. She narrowed her eyes a bit. She did want to help them, but for that they would need to keep up their part of the deal.

Acid Fog

Malia did not answer when the girl spoke. She kept her eyes on the sky girl, much like she was. She did not trust that she would not do anything to harm her. Not that it would get her anywhere. Malia was confident that she would win a fight against Leiana. She did not look particularly threatening and seemed as if she had no weapons. Malia frowned slightly went the girl spoke again. If course she had been trapped by the acid fog. She did nor live here. But the girl would not know that. She did not know her. Still, Malia did not answer her. She moved a bit, tending to the fire while watching Leiana out of the corner of her eye.

The trees rustled from the wind, sending loose leaves down in their direction. Malia swatted at flies in annoyance, trying to keep them away from herself and her horse. They weren't too far from the Sky People's camp, and the spot they would be meeting at. Malia had sent riders to their camp to offer a deal. They would help the Sky People survive on the ground, and in return they'd help them stage an attack on Azgeda. Malia had been planning to attack them for a while, and now they would be finally taking action. When she was younger, her village had been ambushed by an Ice Nation patrol. Her parents had been killed, along with many others. She had been training to be a healer before that, but began to train as a warrior instead afterwards. She wanted to become leader so she could get revenge. It had been slow, but she worked her way up the ranks and became leader of Trishana. Now as leader, though, she knew that revenge wouldn't come easy. She would need help, and hopefully the Sky People would provide that. She did not know if they had any training or proper weapons, but they needed someone to fight with them, and she only had something to offer to them in return. Still, she wasn't completely certain that they would agree to her offer. It would be dangerous and some of them would most definitely die. But they would also get taught how to live on the ground, something it seems like they haven't been very good at. Winter would be coming eventually, which itself brought a number of problems. Malia was sure that their help was needed if the Sky People were going to survive here. Allies were always welcomed, anyways. She hadn't mentioned anything about not bringing weapons, since Malia and her guards would definitely be bringing theirs. She was wary, though, and make sure to stay alert. She didn't know how these people acted. She didn't quite know what to expect. As they came to the place they had agreed to meet to discus it, Malia and her patrol dismounted and tied their horses' reins to the trees. A few warriors were hidden in the woods, just in case. Her eyes served the area, and she took a slight breath before stepping forward to meet them.

"I understand," Malia said, and she meant it. "We did not expect you to come at all, so I am grateful that you have." She kept an even gaze on her face, not wanting the Commander to know the jumble of emotions that were constantly fighting for control in her head. She did not want her to think that she was emotionally imbalanced or weak.
"35," she informed her. "That was mostly in the beginning, before we could react. I have evacuated the villages closest to the border, and place traps around them. They would be more likely to come and fall into our traps if we are not around, I think," she told her.
Someone entered the Main Chambers, talking Malia's attention away from Lexa. It was Mikah, Malia's most trusted warrior and second-in-command of Trishana. "Oh. I did not know..," he stammered slightly when he saw Lexa and her guards, surprised that the Commander was there. He had thought that it was someone else who was here when he had seen the guards outside, and he would have never thought that it was the Commander who had come. "Heda," he greeted her, not wanting to be rude.
"What is wrong, Mikah?" Malia asked, concerned. "Is it important?" She did not want Lexa to feel offended by Mikah interrupting their meeting.
"It is, but...it can wait until you are finished... I guess. You are... not going to be long, are you?" he asked a bit anxiously, which told Malia that it was serious.
"What is it, Mikah?" she asked, her brows furrowing in worry and concern.
"Maisha's been coughing again." he admitted. "Falcon says that is it bubbling up in her chest, which means that she has an infection in her lungs." Maisha was his lover, and one of the warriors Malia was fairly close to.
"Did Falcon give Mai her medicine?"
"Yes, but it hasn't helped," he said, worried about Maisha.
"Has he elevated her upper body? That should help clear her chest a bit, and keep her from choking," she said, trying to find a solution. Mikah nodded, shuffling his feet awkwardly since the Commander was right there.
"Get her to go through her exercises. Staying still will not help her."
"She has done it a while ago, but when we tried to get her to do them, she complains that she is too tired," he told Malia, worried. Malia frowned, thinking about a solution. While she wasn't a healer, she had been training to be one before she had switched to becoming a warrior, and instead worked towards becoming leader of Trishanakru. She was helping with the warriors who had been injured in the attacks, however, since the healer was overwhelmed with all of the wounded.
"He has been reluctant to help her. He thinks that she is a waste of resources and will not get better. He thinks that she is not worth it, even if she survives, since she will no longer be able to be a warrior. He says that we should relieve her of her suffering." Mikah told her about Falcon. Malia had had to talk to the healer about this before, since she believed in the value of every life and did not think that someone was worthless even if they were disabled. She was insistent that they would do everything they could to help Maisha get better, but the warrior was not doing very well.
"Make sure he does his best to heal her," she told him. "I will speak to him about it later. For now, try to get Maisha to go through her easier exercises. I will go check on her later. Tell Falcon to mix the Juniper with Mullein and see how that works. I will update her medicate afterwards."
"Yes, Wocha," Mikah said, and he bowed to Lexa before leaving the Main Chambers, feeling a bit calmer now that Malia had provided them with a solution, even if it was temporarily. He was glad that Malia refused to let anyone die, even if they were not looking as if they would get any better.
"I apologize for the disruption," she said to Lexa apologetically.
