Raven could only see the blackness and feel the freezing cold, sure that this would be the end for her. That she’d never open her eyes again. But she was wrong. It was the smell that woke her from the ice induced sleep she had suffered. The smell of…food? It was very unexpected but not unwelcome. Raven forced her eyes open in order to better assess her surroundings. Her first assumption had been that the others had found her somehow and brought her back to Camp Jaha. But the cabin she was in felt unfamiliar. That meant that a grounder must have found her. Raven suddenly went rigid at the thought. She was too weak to fight herself out of here. It was taking all the energy she had just to keep her eyes open.
Turning her head, Raven finally found the source of the food and silently observed the grounder girl who was cooking it. “Who are you?” Raven exclaimed. She tried to look around her for a weapon, but came up short. She sat up slightly and barely held up her fists, grunting slightly at the pain the sudden movement caused. “Answer me,” she demanded, her voice wispy and coarse after her time in the cold. As the girl turned, Raven fists lowered suddenly in shock. Because she knew the girl. It was…”Clarke?” She could hardly believe it. It felt like ages since the last time they’d seen each other. Since…Mount Weather. And then Clarke had disappeared suddenly without a trace. Without even saying goodbye. “Where am I?” She asked, disoriented. Everything about this place was strange, even Clarke looked different. She looked like one of them, which was why it had been so difficult to recognise her before. “What is this place?”

Hydrazine. That’s what was going to kill her. Collecting freaking hydrazine. Raven had survived a bullet to the back, a bomb explosion, even having the bone marrow drilled out of her leg, and this was how it would all end? It would be all her fault too. She’d been the one to have the bright idea of getting what was left of the explosive chemical in the remains of the exodus ship. They’d used most of it but now with the equipment from the ark she could maybe recreate the chemical, with Monty’s help. They just needed a little bit more to work with. So of course like some idiot she volunteered to go out into the freezing cold and get it herself. And worst of all she hadn’t told anyone she was leaving, not Wick, not Bellamy and not even Monty. She was on her own.
It happened so suddenly too, the snow and wind seemed to just appear in a matter of minutes. So she’d gone from being mildly cold to wading her way through a snow storm. Raven could barely see in front of her, and she’d left the space suit she’d planned to wear while collecting the hydrazine miles away because it was dead weight. So not even that could protect her from the cold. How many miles? She couldn’t remember, all she could think about was the cold and how it was penetrating deep into her bones. No. Raven had to get back. She had to keep…moving. If she just kept walking, she’d find the camp eventually. Her life depended on it.
And that was when she heard it. A snap, loud enough even with the noise of the storm. Looking down, Raven immediately saw where the sound came from. It was her brace. No, it couldn’t be. “Damn it.” She shouted angrily. Taking another step, she immediately collapsed into the snow. Raven attempted to crawl but the icy cold water slowly seeped into her clothes. She felt paralysed with the cold and the pain it caused. “Wick,” she barely managed to say, it was the only thought she could manage. Afraid and alone, Raven waited for it to come. The sweet release of death. Before finally closing her eyes, she heard what sounded like footsteps in the distance.

She stood still, and gave him a chance to respond. “Raven, I don't know when I fell in love you, but it was sometime back on the Ark.” Her eyebrows furrowed in confusion. The ark? He’d felt this way for that long? She thought back to all the jobs they did together. Her mind and heart had been with Finn so she hadn’t even given herself a chance to notice. And love was a strong word. But Raven wasn’t so damaged that she didn’t know what it felt like. She had felt love before…and soul crushing heartbreak. This felt different though, but that didn’t mean it wasn’t love. It was a good different.
Keeping her face stoic, she listened intently as he continued. He seemed like he’d been keeping this in for a while and only now had the opportunity to let it all out. Raven supposed that was her fault, she’d hadn’t exactly given him many opportunities to say how he felt. But that was because she hadn’t been sure how she felt. After Mount Weather she needed to heal, and she only just managed that because Wick had been with her every step of the way. Now it was different, she was sure about how she felt.
“I don't want you with me, just because I'm the father. I want you with me, because this where you want to be." That was fair. He deserved that and more. “Wick,” she began and paused a moment, thinking about how best to phrase this. “You were my best friend.” Despite the playful banter between them, he was one of the only people she could really be herself with. The only person. “But you’re more than that now. And I want this.” As she said the words in that moment she realised that she really did. More than anything. “I want all of it, with you Wick.” He was the one good thing in her life, the thing that stopped her from collapsing in on herself. And now with this child, there would be two good things. And that was more than she ever thought she'd have “I…I love you, Kyle. And not in a, the world’s about to end kind of way, I mean I really, actually…love you.” She let out a breath, and finally let the emotion show on her face. It had been a long time since she’d said those three words.

Raven sighed. She was going to have to learn to work with Bellamy whether she liked it or not and while she still felt that anger, it was time to set it aside for now. For all their sakes. She wasn't letting it go completely, but keeping up the animosity between them would only slow then down in this war with the grounders. And here, that meant death. She couldn't very well help him if every time she saw his face, the urge to kill him or at least give him a damn good punch to the face overwhelmed her. If that meant setting aside their differences for now then so be it. She'd kick his ass after they win this war. If they win it. God knows someone needed to, she thought wryly.
"And it looks like it's working." She paused and rolled her eyes at the bullet she was inspecting. But instead of feeling anger directed at Bellamy she felt something more akin to irritation. Well at least it was a step up. Raven held her hand out for the blade and only turned to look at him when he spoke. "Very funny," she said, sarcasm obvious in her tone and grabbing the knife off him. It wasn't ideal, not even in the same league as the tools she had on the ark. But it would do. "You should come to training as well." Training with guns, to learn how to kill grounders. Finn would be thrilled. But she was already making the bullets, she might as well try her hand at firing them. In for a penny. “Aren’t you afraid I’ll show you up?” She asked mockingly, again referring to his “lousy shot” although it was much less malicious this time. “You wouldn’t want me to embarrass you in front of your loyal subjects.” Raven wasn’t exactly an amazing shot either, but she knew her way around a gun, at least in the mechanical sense. And that was enough right?

"You'll make a good one." She smiled genuinely, appreciating the sincerity in his voice. "Thank you." She was going to try her very best and like he said she only needed to be committed to the child. Judging by the fierce, instinctual protectiveness she was already feeling, that wouldn't be a problem. She'd grown up with a mother that definitely wasn't committed and no child of hers would ever feel like they weren't wanted. She'd love the hell out of that baby. And seeing as Bellamy was on board too, she knew he'd do the same. But it was still a comforting thought knowing that he believed in her too.
"Cute." Raven smiled at that, a word he'd used before when she would tease him. It turned into a smirk as he still felt the need to offer an explanation. "Sure you can go with that," Her smile quickly disappeared while she rolled her eyes at his next words. "Touché, Bellamy." Raven chuckled holding both of her hands up in mock defeat. "Did Abby give you anything to help with the nausea?" Ah yes. Morning sickness. That was going to be fun. She hadn't even really noticed it pegging her unsettled stomach as a side effect of the trauma she suffered. It wasn't exactly far-fetched. But now the cause was clear. "No, she told me the news and I just left." She furrowed her eyebrows as she thought back. "Or ran, really." Now with the advantage of hindsight she realised just how absurd her sudden departure was. She should probably see Abby and fix that at some point. Another thing to add to the list. "Then I came here to tell you...so I wouldn't have a chance to change my mind." She hadn’t really even given herself time to fully process the news. “I didn’t want to keep this a secret from you, it wouldn’t be fair.” She said honestly, sure of her actions now, especially after seeing how he reacted.

"What's that." Raven turned around to look at Wick, confused. Which turned to irritation as he continued. He then proceeded to vandalise her good work. “What do you think you’re doing?” She asked with disbelief in her tone. He did not just do that. She was in work mode and he completely threw off her groove. That had to now be one of his special skills. “Oh you couldn’t just say that? You had to ruin my masterpiece?” She rolled her eyes and stepped back. This was how Wick worked and she knew that from the minute she had the idea to ask him for help. This, was part of the deal. But that didn’t make it any less annoying.
After somewhat getting over her frustration, Raven finally took a closer look at exactly what he crossed out. He was…right. Even she could recognise the mechanical set up of the engines on the thrusters was all wrong. They were so ridiculously outdated, it was almost difficult to look at. “You’re right.” Raven muttered quietly as she continued to study the plans and compare them to the ones Kyle had begun to draw. She regretted the words as soon as they came out of her mouth and tried to immediately change the subject. Hopefully he didn’t hear her. “The engines on these things are ancient, no wonder they shorted out.” She turned to look at him. “We can use the parts but you’ll have to design a whole new electrostatic engine.” Crossing her arms over her chest, she shot him a small smile. “Think you can handle that?”

Raven caught the pen Wick threw at her and smirked. "If it will keep your hands busy, so you bully me less, you can finish your cartoon." Cartoon? Really? That’s where he going to go? “I expected more begging and grovelling but that’ll have to do for now I guess,” she teased. She knew he’d need the plans and it made her grin when he “asked” her for them. Usually she’d be worse and make him regret calling her extremely amazing highly skilled drawing a cartoon. But she had been the one to come to him for help after all. She actually needed his skills for now. She’ll make him pay later.
Raven moved beside him and began completing her drawing of the old plans. "How's the boy?" She visibly paused and stopped writing for a moment. Her mind had been so occupied with her plans on fixing the thrusters and using Wick’s help she hadn’t thought about him, and she felt a familiar twinge of guilt. “Finn, is doing fine.” She said stressing on his name. The boy, was a “funny” name Wick called him because he was slightly younger than her. Surprisingly, she didn’t find it so amusing. “I’m actually going to visit him tomorrow, maybe today when we’re done here.” That was unlikely though, because they still had a lot of planning to do. But she was overcompensating because she felt guilty about being happy while he was in lock up. “I’ll tell him you say hi and how much you miss him, of course,” she teased, continuing with her drawing.

Raven silently followed Bellamy to his tent, confusion and fear lining her face. This was serious then. If he needed to speak to her in private then it must be. All she wanted to do was find Finn and see that he was okay. With her own eyes, just to be sure. But apparently she couldn’t, not until Bellamy and Octavia explained what was happening. She tried to concentrate on her steps, to stop herself from thinking. And panicking. As they walked in Raven was prepared to demand what the hell was going on and why she couldn’t go see Finn, before Bellamy spoke. Every word he said only served to confuse her more. “Inquisition? What the hell are you talking about?” She couldn’t help but notice the obvious rage in Octavia’s face, and radiating from her body. Her panic grew.
Bellamy continued, and it was obvious in the way he spoke that he was trying to brace her for something. But she didn’t want that; she just wanted the truth. She knew as well as anyone what the ground had done to them, how much it changed them. But why was that relevant now? “And in this case, after the battle, Finn snapped." What the hell was that supposed to mean? “Snapped? What the hell happened out there Bellamy?” She needed answers and she didn’t have time to be babied. “Octavia?”

"For most everyone, this is the only chance they had to live." His words made her think. It was true, most of the kids down here were criminals. And if the ark was so desperate that they sacrificed 320 innocent people, then without this mission to the ground these kids would have been floated for sure, even involuntarily. Finn would have been floated, and for her crime too. The thought made her shudder. There was no way she could have lived with that. The guilt of his arrest was heavy enough but the guilt of his death would have destroyed her. But as blessings in disguise go, this was a hell of good disguise.
"We just gotta suvive before that." Raven let out a hollow chuckle. “That’s easier said than done.” But Raven agreed with him as he continued saying they were fighters. They were going to have to be if they wanted to survive this war and stay alive. She had to give it to those kids though, they really stepped up. The fact that they had survived this long with grounders looming was a testament to exactly what Bellamy was saying. They were fighters, and so was she. Concentrating on the grounders helped give her a place to direct her pain and the anger she felt. And from past experience she knew just how to channel that anger into the motivation she needed. Those grounders had seen nothing yet. "So lett's give them the ammo they need."
“Nice speech Bellamy, you think of that all by yourself?” She asked sarcastically, with a smirk while glancing up at him. But instead of a malicious tone, it was more of a teasing one. Bellamy had a knack for saying the right thing to inspire these kids. It was quite the skill really, but she didn’t have to tell him that. Inspecting the bullets in her hands she noticed small imperfections in the steel coat of some bullets. Her mind was already beginning to think of more ways they could make the ammo last. “Do you have a small blade?” She didn’t usually ask for help but she used the question as more of sign that she was on board with the team. “I need to fix the shape of some of these older looking bullets.” Without her usual tools she’d have to use anything they had to make these bullets perfect. She couldn’t risk a misshapen bullet jamming one of the guns.

Her nerves lessened and she felt a lot less panicked now that they were having an easy conversation. The hard part was over and the relief was almost overwhelming. "I have to tell Octavia," Raven wondered how she was going to take the news, that she was becoming an aunt. Well; she hoped. They both had people they cared about who needed to know about this and soon. Though she expected the reactions would be very different. Her stomach started to clench again just thinking about it. She never wanted to hurt Wick. They’d been friends for years and then they were, well, whatever they were for a short while, so she cared about him a lot.
Raven felt the nerves and feeling of growing panic return. Telling Wick; hurting him was going to be so much worse than this. But it was necessary, for his sake. She wanted him to be happy, and that meant moving on. Raven was damaged goods to begin with. The grief and injuries she’d suffered on the ground had hardened and changed her. Wick was still okay, well mostly okay. She didn’t want to break him, like she was broken, like Bellamy was broken. He deserved better.
"Are you and him together?" Raven couldn’t help her natural instinct to roll her eyes even though it was a fair question. She paused for a few moments. “No, that...ended.” she finally said, not prepared to go into detail. “Not so big on commitment, not since…” Finn. Folding her arms over her chest, she cleared her throat. “Real mom material, huh.” She said sarcastically, changing the subject. Now wasn’t the time to dwell on grief. “Why, you jealous Blake?” She asked teasingly with a smirk. Raven obviously knew that wasn’t the case but joking about it helped with panic and nerves about confronting Wick with the news. That was going to be a damn nightmare.

I also think despite how cold she seems that Lexa makes the best commander. At the end of the day it's about protecting your people and Lexa definitely does that. I think she's able to make the best long term decisions for her people. Indra I think, while she's an extremely skilled warrior, can be too quick to judge and has a bit of a temper. And Anya maybe lacks the necessary power and presence that I think Lexa has and needs to effectively command such a vast number of potentially volatile grounders while still keeping peace.
