Mount Weather got worse every day Larkin found. It escalated slowly, going worse. People started to disappear. Larkin never thought it could get that bad. Being sent down sounded like the worst that could have happened to her. But like so many things, life never listened. Life was a bitch, what they said. Larkin was literally snatched from a corridor. She had just been eating, a bit late as she got carried away with some books, things they hadn't had on the Ark at all.
She sadly crossed paths with the doctor and some guards. Within moments it seemed to have been decided she was to be brought somewhere. For what? She had no idea. They dragged her along, despite her protest. She tried, hard, to get away. She used her entire bodyweight against them, pulled from one direction to the other and yet they were stronger than her, dragging her along. Larkin thrashed until she saw two people approaching. The one was the girl hanging about Jasper, whom she didn't really understand at the moment and with her was a guard. There was no way he could help her and yet, after everything she and her very few friends have been to, she owed it at least to her friends to fight until she could no longer fight.

It was the morning after a storm. They finally had contact to the Ark. Well, it turned out most of them rejoyed at the thought of talking to their loved ones. Larkin would, too, but she didn't think her father would want to. And there was the question if they could maintain this. Maybe there could be regular calls, but Larkin wasn't sure. Electricity and all that wasn't a resources easily come by in this area. But plants were. She felt herself reminded of her father when she started to collect them, bringing them to her tent in which she lived with another girl. Said girl liked to avoid her once she found out why Larkin was imprisoned and thus Larkin mostly stayed alone, watching from the sidelines, assessing as much as protecting herself. Most kids viewed her as murderer. And she didn't even try to correct them. Some things weren't easily explained.
She watched people and it was Bellamy who caught her attention. He had a weird air about him. Guilt. There was guilt in him and Larkin felt herself respond to it, wanting to take a bit of the guilt, to put things into some perspective as she struggled to do that herself. Larkin gathered a small amount of salad and brought it with her as she approached him. She placed the salad in front of him. "The first batch ever. You seem troubled. And I dare say it got worse since the storm."

“You could always practice some comebacks and keep them in mind.” It was less spontaneous, but it was what he could do. It was a way for them to be shut up. He was not spontaneous, she guessed. But there was ways to give him something to shut the others up. It could be a simple training, to relax his mind and allow him to just go there, to stand up to them. Maybe that would be enough to keep them at bay. They could always try. She could always offer to help him with that. “If you want, I can give you a bit of training in that department.” She had training herself after all.
“I’m twenty.” Larkin provided. She was a bit older than him. Maybe his lack of experience helped that along, too. She didn’t know anyway. At least there was a chance to help him. “I’m working in the entertainment. And I guess you’re going to school, right?” Ha had to be a student at that age or actually learning to become something.

He spent time with his wife. That didn’t sound like specific fun to her, but it was fun, she guessed. Everyone had a different perception of it and Lark was in no way different of that. Not many would consider reading up on history fun. She did. So there was that. “That sounds like a very calm and peaceful way to have fun, actually. I’m almost envious. I spent most of my fun hours in here, talking to the Ark – which feels a lot more like talking to myself actually.
“Maybe it is a challenge. Do you accept it?” Why did she even ask him? She knew she couldn’t hold her drink that well. She couldn’t because she had no time to drink anything with her current status. After all she had to entertain and she wanted to learn. She wanted to make a difference. But once in a while she could indulge in this, right? She had to, otherwise she might break down. “Nothing on the line except for figuring it out and a bit of fun. And we promise to stop the other if we go to far?”

“It’s my job, literally.” Larkin pointed out. Since she worked for the entertainment on the Ark. Not many thought of the people behind it. They had deeper problems. And with good reason. Those on factory kept them alive. Larkin knew that this was not where her talents lay so she had steered away from it, successfully now. She was much more comfortable where she was now. It helped her feel useful.
“Well, Theo, why do you let them give you grief?” She asked him. He was probably shy, probably not wanting confrontation. “What do your friends do to protect you?” She asked him, wanting to see if their tactic might work for him, too. But he would eventually find his own, once he tired of their shit. And he would. He just needed the confidence to stand up to the losers that found pleasure in bringing others down. “So how old are you?”

Larkin smiled at the boy. But she noticed the look. Following it for a moment, she noticed the leaving kids. The puzzle pieces fell together immediately. Kids, youngsters of any age could be incredibly mean. "Are they bothering you?" The girl asked. She looked at him, her ponytale swaying slightly with the movement of her head. It had a certain spring to it, which it had to have. Appearances were a lot more important on GoSci, sadly. "You know you could just let them talk. The Ark gets everyone down eventually. They don't realize it yet, but it's unlikely they will be that big mouthed in the future." Unlikely didn't even cover it. Everyone had to pull their weight on this ship.
"On top of it, you should ignore them. They're looking for a response. Do they deserve one, if they treat you wrong? I don't think so." With a smile she pushed a bit of her desert to him. "Whats the point in engaging with people like that? They'll just keep teasing you and find reasons to tease you more based on your response." But she had the feeling he usually wasn't their usual victim, at least not like that. He had a comfort zone and he was out of it.

It was good to return to the lower stations at the end of the day. Her internship brought her one step closer to government where she wanted to make a difference. But at the end of the day she was still just a girl. She was still just someone who tried with hope, but not the privilege to get what she wanted, what her friends needed. She had come down here just in time for most people to eat, so Larkin had no choice but to sit next to someone she hadn't met yet. She smiled brightly.
"Hey, mind if I sit there?" She asked him. "Nothing else is free." And she needed a place. She might have to come back in to cover the night at the radio. Some engineers were scheduled for a night maintenance. They had to work the night too to entertain them. That was their job. And that was her stepping stool to actual power. Power to change things. She wanted this, she had to remind herself. She wanted a better life for herself and her friends, for everyone on the lower stations. "I'm Larkin."

“Any sort of gossip.” Larking admitted. There was not always a lot that would work. Sometimes there was just nothing to tell. Sometimes there were secrets that shouldn’t be shared in the slightest. But she wanted the harmless stuff. She wanted something they could talk about without fearing to hurt somebody. At least without fearing to permanently damage somebody. She had heard things, but they were not the ones that should be shared, no matter how well Harper knew the person that it was about. It was not Larkins story to tell.
“For once I heard the former history teacher had her implant removed.” She grinned. “And considering how she is getting rounder, I would say it worked already.” New life on the ground. It was hope for all of them and the kind of gossip Larkin liked. It wasn’t harmful as she suspected Harper would feel the same soft joy over this even than she did. A child was something good. Especially a child that was wanted, that was the fulfilling of a wish the mother held. Larkin hoped her wish was actually coming true.

“No you can’t.” Larkin answered plainly. She didn’t trust the girl. Not with this. She had a penchanct for using people as far as Larkin knew. And she would not sit idly by and let her use Bellamy. So no, she did no believe for a second, that this was the only reason Clarke was here. In fact she had a pretty good guess why she could be here. Yes, some of her people might miss Bellamy, his leadership and inspiration. And his skill to not take the grounders shit anymore. They had established something good, something better. She could imagine why Clarke was truly here. She was here for that!
“You want Bellamy to fix your problems in Arkadia, don’t you? You see how well he is doing here. If you missed him, you could have seen him when he last visited Arkadia.” And as far as she knew, she hadn’t. Clarke wasn’t here because of friendship. She was here for his skill, nothing else. This was just the girl. Or something majorly made her different. She doubted it. “And we have radios. You could have radioed in.”

“I think so.” Larkin said. She had heard them talk about it and talk to someone about the little one seeing a doctor. “They have spoken about seeing one when they are free. So either they already have seen a doc or the doc knows and will see them when they have time. After all they are all super busy.” With people sick, due to no longer being used to the ground, there was a lot of work for the doctors around. Larkin laughed as Harper said her dad was smart. She knew that and had to agree. “He is. He knows how to deal with kids. That’s why he took him in.” The kid needed someone and they liked him so taking him in was only natural for them.
“Talking sounds nice.” Larkin almost giggled. “Seriously the others are always that serious, all hush hush. The grounders that are coming to attack us are already aware we are here. No need to be silent.” And the animals usually steered clear of noise. It was the experiences with the grounders. Unless the violent ones and they were stopped by the wall. “Besides talking keeps us awake.” She pointed out. “I have seen some fall asleep on that job before.” And that was the truly shocking kicker. “So any new gossip up here?”

"No you didn't miss it." Larking said. "I'm not on the rota tonight." Or early in the morning. But she would still be there. She had, quite literally nowhere else to be. It was due to the poor boys sickness. He would recover, she was sure of it. It didn't look good, but her Dad didn't want to risk her catching it and in many ways, Larkin was very grateful for it. At the same time she knew it would end in her boredom in the next days, because she couldn't be around the lively kid outside of training and work. "My father kind of threw me out." She still smiled. "The kid of friends - his parents died - lives with us now. And he's sick. Dad doesn't want me to catch it, so I had to leave." So basically her little brother was sick, even though he wasn't really her brother and she had no idea if she felt for him like one would feel as siblings, she never had one, obviously. But she cared a great deal of the kid.
"I thought I should help instead of sitting around, bored out of my mind." She could actually be useful. At least a bit. She knew she was nowhere near ready to be a full time guard. She knew she was not trained as Harper was, she didn't have the aim or experience. But she wanted to gain it, so it was another plus of why she was here. "I'd much rather spend my time usefully."

"And how do you have fun?" She asked him, teasing tone and all. He just didn't seem like the kind of guy to actually go out for fun. More like a settled Dad, kind of guy. There was nothing wrong with that, but his sentence just presented an opening for her to use and tease him about and she would do it mercilessly. Because she simply could. Because there was nothing wrong with it either. She would tease him, but hopefully not get mean. Naturally different people had different limits. Larkins limit was a very specific one.
"I bet I could drink you under the table." Larkin pointed out. While actually, she was rather sure it might be either even or, if he really knew how to have fun in that department, she'd be singing on a table long before he was even tipsy. Oh she just had to find out which of them could hold their drink better. Unless he was the kind of guy to go strictly by the rules and not drinking at all. "We should test my theory."

Oh. That was a surprise to Larkin. Someone knew her name, almost that easily. She plopped herself down next to Harper and looked at her. From when she had seen her, she knew she was very competent at this job. She had, like with many of the other cadets and young guards, wondered, if that was always their path or if they had another goal once, just like Larkin. But maybe she was still following her goal by becoming a guard. In the end it was all about making a better future for those she cared about.
"Yeah, that's me. And you're Harper." That was no question. She like many others knew exactly who she was. She and her friends tended to be in the center of attention around the leaders of the Delinquents. She heard many good things about her, how she fought for her friends and her people in those times. In Larkins eyes Arkadia needed more of those people. "You're somewhat of a celebrity." She added, remembering the little boy all giddy when he saw Larkin coming from training, close to Harper once. He thought she had trained with them. Larkin had to disappoint him, sadly. "The kid that lives with us is like a big fan of you and your friends. You guys make quite the impression on kids."

"No way!!" Larkin exclaimed! How was this even possible? How could he not know who or what the Ghostbusters were? It was one of the movies stored on the Arks database, accessible to everyone, she guessed. But it didn't mean everyone watched it. Many on factory didn't, because it felt too much like privilege. In her job Larkin had to watch stuff like that. She had to know what to tell the people, how to advertise public movie showings to the people that might listen. "You have no idea who the Ghostbusters are? Do you live under a rock?" Okay that was maybe inappropriate, but she knew how to play it off. "I mean... technically we live under the same rock, the Ark. But how have you not seen that. It's one of the most hyped movies shown on here." Her colleauges were all over that and certain shows.
"It's literally about people who hunt ghosts. Not that ghosts ca scientifically exist, but it's a movie. It's meant to be fun. And the songs are fun." Larkin pointed out. She started to hum the title melody a little, hoping he might be able to recognize it from that. Maybe he had seen it after all. "You're not one for entertainment, are you? You're in the station and never heard of me. You have no idea what Ghostbusters are."

@harpermcintyre She had no shift that night. In truth Larkin was only put on the rota for watches because she had good eyes and knew how to alert others to threats, not necessarily to shoot them herself. She was getting better at shooting, but she was nowhere near being a good shot. That evening Larkin climbed up to the tower for other reasons entirely. The boy that lived with her dad was sick and whining. Her dad was winding up catching the sickness himself, so they both basically kicked Larkin out. She didn't want to feel useless during that time, so she decided to help out with the watch.
When she saw who was on rota, she smiled. Harper. Harper, from what she has seen, was a great girl. She was fun, always up for a little bit of teasing her colleagues and friends. It was kind, teasing, too. She never saw Harper be mean really. Given the other guards for that night - all male, all old, all more serious than an infection, she was kind of happy she climbed up there. That way Harper would have some company while those men talked about whatever the hell raised their masts lately. "Is that seat taken?" She asked Harper once she was close to where the girl sat.
