Eighteen. Marcus felt himself unsteady but he tried to dot he math. He knew she was under that when she was sent to the ground and the kids weren't on the ground long so it was with in that time frame. He tried to do the math but he still wasn't sure. Yet her blood told him the truth. They were a match. Her mother and . . . father were not. Because Jake Griffin was not her biological father, even if he had been her father by right. A right that Marcus had apparently not been given.
He shut her file and tossed the tablet aside. Looking at her Marcus tried to see Jake in her, and the sad part was--he did. Though Abby also looked like Jake, with light hair and features. Marcus was darker in hair and eyes. Where did that go? He had to be mistaken. "Maybe the blood is wrong. Maybe it works different, we should talk . . . we should talk to your mother." And demand answers. They needed to know the truth, before they said and did things that were not able to be taken back.

Marcus raised his gaze up to the door at the knock, and gestured the young doctor in. "House call," he joked, and Marcus' expression lightened to amusement, though the smile was minimal. He didn't laugh often, but it was getting easier. The longer the peace held, the better things would be for the people here. "Jackson," Marcus used his name as a greeting, and pushed to a stand. Marcus stilled like a bit for formality, even though he was no longer the man who believed that every rule was meant to be kept to the letter.
"How is she?" He asked in a low voice, knowing that Jackson would know who he spoke of. Abby. She had been unable to walk for a while, but Marcus knew she was stubborn. Nothing would keep her down long. Until she was able to fully move with ease, Jackson and Marcus had taken over the roles. Once Abby was up moving she would want to take on the dual roles of lead doctor and chancellor. Marcus didn't like the idea of her doing both, but he wasn't going to upset things by offering an power struggle right now. He would just support her as best as he could.

Speak with him alone? Marcus raised his brow at the comment and watched the young man closely while he paused there for a moment to decide. He didn't think Blake was here to fight, but there was something off about him. Marcus knew that sometimes officers would noticed things and be hesitant to come forward. Was this what this was? Had Blake seen something from an officer and needed to speak with him? Then Why come here? Finally Marcus opened the door and allowed Blake to enter.
"Alright," he said once the door was shut. Marcus walked deeper into his home, and away from the bedroom door. He had a rare room with a view--a benefit of who he was-and he liked that as a backdrop. He moved to stand before it, and turned to face Blake; and while the action was casual it was also very planned. Marcus liked the position and power that he had earned, and as he had earned it with his hard work and by giving up many things, he was now going to damn well enjoy it. "Speak your mind, Cadet Blake." because he had a willing and naked woman in his bed, and a rare afternoon free--he didn't want to waste it talking to cadets. No matter how much he enjoyed working with Blake.

Marcus is extremely logical, and he needs someone to help keep him grounded sometimes! I really enjoy this relationship, and I think that it could be really fun to explore how they grow from fighting to needing each other. We also have a Clarke and a Callie and Jackson who could play off Abby!
There is also lots of ideas that can be had for AUs!

She spoke about how it was her father's blood, or was supposed to be. How it didn't make any sense because of everything she had been told. Marcus was thinking back tot he time he and Abby had . . . it had been one night. One night where two adults who had bickered too much had spilled over and they had embraced what it really was. Passion. Marcus had slept with her mother, and knowing it was wrong had never approached the subject again. Now he was wishing he had. Clarke even looked like Jake--he had never had a reason to doubt.
Marcus tried to do the math. Clarke's age plus the months of caring a baby in her belly. How old was Clarke for sure?! Marcus tried to do the math, but there was a lot of things that could effect the time frame. "How--how old are you? Exactly." He asked slowly, knowing what his was thinking, but unable to just spill it out to the frighten girl int he bed. She had no idea that her world was crashing around her. That his one night of passion with her mother would ruin her memories of her father. Marcus felt guilty and . . . and angry. Why had he not been told? Why would Abby not give him a chance to know his daughter? Maybe he knew why---but he still wanted to hear it from her.

There was a storm coming. Marcus wanted to be out there looking for the kids, but with the storm approaching he knew they were safer here. Not only because it could get them lost, but because the locals were dangerous. Still, all the kids were missing. Over 40 of them. He was debating on trying to go out there, but after talking with Sinclair he had ordered the men to withdrawal to the Ark, for it to be sealed, and everyone to wait. They could prepare weapons while they waited. One thing he was dreading was telling the parents that they wouldn't be going directly out.
Which was why when he heard Callie's voice he paused before turning around. Marcus walked toward her and came to a slow rest near Callie. He hated to do this to her, but he had to think of the whole group. "No word. Sinclair says there is large storm coming, and we are pulling the men back for now. Once it has past we will go back out there and find them." Marcus hesitated for a second before reaching out to touch her shoulder. He had to be the strong unyielding one right now for the people, but he couldn't be authoritative with her. "I promise we will not stop looking for them. I will not stop looking for her." He was fond of Lily, and he wasn't just doing that for Callie; but he wanted her to know that he would not stop until he found her daughter. "We have reason to believe they will be found alive." The fact that there was no blood and bodies. The man that had tried to take Blake and Collins had been taking them to see their leader, so that should be where the kids were.

There was a knock at Marcus' door and he left his warm bed to walk toward it. It was late afternoon, and he had rearranged his schedule to have some time free to be with the woman he loved. He was thinking--as he often did--of making things official but they hadn't done it yet. Perhaps when her daughter turned of age, they would talk about moving in together and making it just them. He knew that meant he would never have children but at his age what would be do with one anyway? He especially liked the sight of Callie's shoes resting on the floor by his door. For a moment he thought about moving them, but figured whoever it was wasn't coming in, so it didn't matter.
Opening the door, Marcus Kane found himself looking at Bellamy Blake. Stepping forward he looked up and down the hall, and noticed that he was alone. Once again Blake had impressed Marcus and shown how resourceful he could be. He had gotten into the area that he wasn't supposed to be--and no alarms were going off, or officers were in chase. Stepping back, Marcus wondered what he wanted. "Cadet Blake," he greeted, taking how the expression and bloody language of the cadet, which normally was hard to read but there was something off about it today. Still hard to read but there was just something implacable different on his his expression. "Is something wrong?" He asked slowly, concern at first but still not opening the door all the way to let him in.

Marcus knew she was talking but he couldn't hear her right now. His thoughts where too loud in his own head to hear anything over his thoughts. Her voice was a muted mumbling in the background while he tried to understand what he was reading. Looking up from the list he blinked a few times, while noticing that she was looking at him. Right, he had not been paying attention to her. That was bad because they needed to know where the antibodies had gotten into her system, and he needed to ask her that first-- "Your blood type and your father's blood type aren't the same." Maybe not first.
Marcus wasn't trained in medical things, but he did have a rare type so he knew why he had to give more often. "Nor your mother's." She didn't match her parents. He must know what that meant in the back of his mind but the words wouldn't come forward. Why didn't she match them? They had to match right? That was how it worked. He got his blood type from his father, and they were both rare. "Do you know who's blood type you have?" How did she get it?

It had been a hard month since the fall of the mountain, but their people were coming out strong. Marcus stood at the doorway into the Ark and watched as a group of them were making a garden, while others were working on a well. The wall was becoming thicker to protect them, but the truce was holding. It seemed they had finally found peace. Marcus hoped it would last. They needed some hope right now.
Turning from the door, he walked into the metal halls of the fall space ship. His boot echoed with muted thuds as he moved deeper into the building to get to the work room that he and Abby had made into their office of sorts. He pushed into the room without knocking, and walked to the table. Proping up to half sit on it, Marcus looked over the map while taking a drink from the cup in his hand. He was alone in the room, but he knew Jackson would join him soon. He wanted to make sure Abby was doing alright, so he had asked Jackson to meet him here this morning so they could talk about how the people were recovering; and if Abby was well enough to be back working.
Marcus had put Bellamy in charge of mapping out the land around them, and charting where all the villages were. That would allow them to know their options for later, though Marcus was hopeful that peace would last. Hope right now was what the people needed. It had been too long since they had had such a feeling. He might not be chancellor anymore, but he was not going to let his people down again.

Marcus' plan went just how he predicted. Blake approached, made a move which Marcus countered with a kick, and ended up in a head lock. Marcus was pleased to find out that this was were Blake stopped being predictable. He kicked Marcus' knee which made him loosen a hold; and got out of it the rest of the way with other impromptu moves. Pushing out of the fight, Marcus pulled away and took a few steps back. Looking up at the younger man, Marcus watched him for a moment before the sound of a slow clap filled the room. It was then Marcus realized that everyone was watching.
Looking over he noticed Jaha standing near the door, and the clap had come from him. Blake had just impressed not only the vice chancellor, and many of his superiors by showing instinct to not give up (they were all well aware of Marcus' training tests and styles), but also the chancellor of the Ark. Marcus watched Jaha leave the room, before looking back at Blake. "Most cadets do as you did. The approach and don't think about their whole body, but about the upper body. It's why a kick always gets them off guard." He explained, "And once I get the upper hand, they admit defeat and tap out . . . but not you." And that was the test. TO see if he was going to give up easy, or if he was going to really fight this to the top. "I'm impressed you thought on your toes and didn't stop until you were free. That will serve you well as a guard."
He walked closer, but showed no move to attack. He was teaching. "No one wants to get arrested. The rules of the Ark is clear. The goal will be making the arrest without letting them harm you or anyone else while doing it." He turned to gesture to one of the officers, who them came up. "I want you to try and arrest him." Marcus waited until the officer was on the other side of the mat before speaking in a low voice. "He is going to try to over power you. You're younger then he is, and he has years of training. He expects an easy win . . . don't give it too him. Where he has strength, and arrogance; you are going to need to use speed and strategy." Another test. Most cadets would try this on their own and get their tails beat. Classroom training said, don't try this alone. Yet once they got out into the training mats and in the Ark they still tried and got hurt. Marcus wanted to know if Bellamy would be smart about this, and make a plan of attack that put safety over pride.

Marcus waited for Blake to come out, and while he did he removed his jacket. There was a few others training here, but at this time of day it was only open to the higher ranks. Because of who Marcus was, he could allow Blake in as a guest. He was having trouble shaking his conversation with his mother until Blake called him sir again. "For today, while we train, you can leave off the sir." Marcus told him, knowing there was a time and place for formality, and he didn't want the younger man holding back. If Blake only saw him as an vice chancellor then he might hold back, and Marcus wanted to see what he could do. "For this, we will not let potion be used to hold back."
Marcus walked onto the training mat, and waited for Blake to follow him. "As a guardsman you will have to make sure you know how to control a person, and not allow them to do much damage." It's some of the first things taught, how to arm lock or keep another from moving too much. "I want you to try to arrest me." Marcus gestured him forward, and then stood there waiting, knowing that when Blake got close enough he was going to kick his feet from under him and put him into either an arm lock or a head lock as a way of training him to always anticipate the other's moments. What Marcus hoped, that was once Blake was in a lock he wouldn't just give up. He would try to turn the situation around.

"You would do that for me, Sir?" Marcus knew that he had surprised the younger man, and he half smiled at the reaction. "Blake, one thing I admire most is boldness. People who will do more then the others. It is very rare that a cadet walks up and speaks to me." It had even taken Aurora weeks to come up and speak to him of something besides training. Callie had come to him, and he had admired that too. "I look forward to seeing what you can do."
"I hope to do my family proud." Marcus wondered about his family. He knew that Blake's father had been floated a long time ago for assaulting a guard, but he didn't know much else about the family. "I am sure you will. I will have permission sent to your ID card to get into the training areas for tomorrow." Marcus said dismissing himself before turning to look over the class once more, and then leaving. He felt a slight pain in his chest at the meeting Aurora's son, knowing that had he made different choices that it could well have been his son. Though then he wouldn't be the vice chancellor.
The following day, Marcus walk walking down the hall with his mother. She had once again sought him out to ask him to come to one of her meetings or for supper. Marcus always told her not. He didn't have a good relationship with his mother. There was much that he didn't like about his past, and she was a hard reminder of that. He saw someone walking down the hall, and noted that it was Blake. Marcus held up his hand to tell the cadet not to approach, before addressing his mother quietly, and making a false promise to see her late. Once that was done he walked away from her and joined Blake at the door, before sliding his ID so they could enter. "There is a locker room back that way, if you need to change." He said, having already been in his training gear under his jacket.

She was doing well. Marcus let that sink in for a moment but didn't bring it up again. Aurora was a topic that was better not talked about between them. Not only because of the fact that Marcus had been her lover, but because he still was fond of her and he didn't want things to be awkward with her son. Marcus had no children and he was often envious that Aurora and Callie had children with other men, and he loved them both. Still he would rather be with Callie then have children of his own. He was fond of Lily, and that was enough for him.
Blake was talking about his career path and Marcus have a nod. "The same as me when I was your age. If you are anything like your mother I am sure you will impress your instructors." Aurora had been impressive before she left to be a mother instead. Marcus didn't know why but he wanted to keep and eye on the boy. Maybe it was because of who his mother was, or maybe it was just because he liked that Blake was the only cadet thus far to be bold enough to approach him (which showed how like his mother he was). "While I am not active in the guard any longer, I still keep up my training. Why don't you stop by tomorrow night. I would like to see what you are capable of." To see if he was anything like his mother, and because Marcus like boldness. He respected it. It was why people like Aurora and Callie and not Bellamy stood out. He wanted to reward it now, so that later it would still be there. The Ark needed bold. Rule following, but bold.

Marcus always liked to give the welcoming and opening speech to the new recruits because it made him more of a physical presence. It allowed the cadets to see him as both man and leader--which was good when it cam to earning their loyalty. He knew the men under his command were very loyal it him. So like always he gave the speech to them, and explained to them what his exceptions were, and then was speaking to the instructor before taking his leave. A young man came up to them, and Marcus shifted his attention to him as the cadet held out his hand in greeting. Marcus reached his hand out, but paused at the name. After a half second pause he took the young man's hand and shook it.
"Blake. I knew your mother back when she was a cadet. You have some impressive shoes to fill." Marcus admitted, knowing that he had been Aurora's training officer back int he day but didn't want to bring attention to how he had begun to fall in love with her. Knowing that it would hurt both their careers to have an relationship while he was her superior, Marcus had broken it off. Shortly later she quit and begun a family with another. Marcus had been hurt for a while, but then had met Callie and she'd helped him heal. It didn't mean that he had not thought of her often. He looked at the instructor in a look that said 'leave' in his polite authority; and the instructed made an excuse to walk away. "And how is your mother? She must be pleased you are following in her wake." He asked managing to keep most emotion from his tone, so the question sounded almost polite asking rather then how he really wanted to know.
"Which path way are you joining?" There was a few educational paths a cadet could take. There was the ones who wanted to be more then a guard, and took some politics courses, or human relation ones; and others who took more training so they could move up the ranks as a guard. Callie herself had become something more then just a guard member, and it was one of the reasons that there was now more paths for cadets to follow. She was paving the way for change, and Marcus was already wishing he had never let her go years ago. But she was back with him now, and that was all that matter.

Marcus found Bellamy in the makeshift bar the people were building. It seemed a good place to let the people relax, and Marcus wasn't above having a drink every now and then so he didn't mind the idea. In fact, seeing everyone working together made him proud. Right now they needed unity. They needed to all prove they were strong--and they were doing it! He paused there to look over the workings, and walked to the table where Blake was having a rest, or drink. Once he got his own drink, Marcus sat down and put his coat on the table. "Mind if I join you?" He asked, after he had already done so.
Marcus drank of his drink before speaking to Bellamy. "Everyone is really starting to work together. We are proving that we are strong as a people." He was proud and it showed on his face. They were overcoming. Marcus wasn't so foolish as to think this eased the past, but he liked seeing everyone working towards something. It looked like hope. "I wanted to talk to you about your place here. I know on the Ark you were a janitor, but I don't think we have much of a need for one right now. You seemed good at building. Had that wall built around the dropship. Is that something you like?" He was not about to ask Bellamy to be a builder. He was going to tell him he was joining the guard, but Marcus walked to make sure that was what Bellamy wanted first. Besides, Marcus enjoyed building up to the moment. He was trying to make this a gesture. Bellamy could use some good news right now, and Marcus wanted to give it too him.
