"He didn't say who," He didn't say, but Marcus' mind was already connecting dots and trying to reject what it was finding to be true. A simple test that Abby could run could confirm it. That was when he realized that Abby had said that Abruzzi had come in to run a test but had deleted the information before she could find out what it was. Marcus had assumed it was something to do with Pike's magic dirt he found. They had been testing to see if someone was his 'kid'. "I need to know whatever you can tell me," Bellamy kept going, but Marcus could only reach a slightly unsteady hand toward the wall and look down while his mind connected the dots.
"I can protect your kid, but I have to find out who it is first." Bellamy was the one who needed protection. Marcus was almost completely sure. "Abby said that Abruzzi had used the medical lab to run a test. He must have caught on to something and tried to prove it." Marcus explained sounding distant, low and distracted. Finally he forced his eyes up to Bellamy, and he looked at him. REALLY looked at him. His hair, and face, and Marcus saw him as he had never saw him before. Bellamy was his son! Bellamy! "I have a son." He said, emotion thickening his tone.
Marcus was standing up straight once again, but his eyes fell. "I think I have a son." He wanted it to be Bellamy so badly but if Abruzzi knew and was still willing to go after him then Marcus didn't want him to be his son. He rather he be safe. "I've not gotten close to many women, there was one in my youth. I was her training her officer and she was a cadet under me." He forced his eyes back to Bellamy, and they were almost pleading. "I broke it off with her because we were both career minded and that would have destroyed both our careers. She never told me I had a son." He wasn't on the council then. He had not had access tot he permits, and when he found out she was with another man and they were to have a child it had hurt but he had not questioned it! WHY had he not questioned it!

"We'll address the grounders first thing in the morning." Marcus nodded his head, knowing that Bellamy would need to have a firm plan before he started making moves. Unlike Pike who became chancellor and started killing people withing the hour. Speaking of Pike, Bellamy said he would not be giving away the body, and Marcus could under stand that. He didn't know how it would go over, but he was willing to stand by Bellamy and see how it went. "In exchange, we'll release the Grounders." Another solid plan. "Then I will try to get a message for Nyko to meet them at the gates so they can move to his care. Abby can send the medicines . . . . " He didn't know about that. "The medicines that I have been sneaking them." While he trusted Bellamy not to hurt her, he was still going to make sure that everyone knew they were only following his orders so that any stray followers of Pike only came after him.
" . . . I'm going out there tomorrow to find her myself." marcus didn't agree. As chancellor he needed to protect himself better. Loosing two so close together would cause havoc in the city. Marcus refrained from saying anything until the time came. With any luck, the girl would be alive and turned over right away. It would go along way into showing the people--and her brother--that they were more then killers. Not that it would suddenly change Bellamy's mind, but it might help him think more then only see hae.
"And, we need to form a council." Marcus looked surprised for a moment, because they had not had one in so long. "You are going to bring the council back?" He asked, but already knew the answer. It made him proud that Bellamy was trying to fill himself with different minds all around him, rather then how Pike . . . and how he and Abby did, by only filing it with like minds. "I think that is a good idea. It's been too long since he were more democratic rather then autocratic. Not since the crash."

"Don't call me that," Bellamy told him, and Marcus inhaled slowly, tilting his head back and getting ready to find new words to say in effort to help Bellamy see that this was something good, and that he was worthy of this. "I never knew my father." That was the last thing Marcus expected to hear as Bellamy finally looked at him. He stood there silently watching, knowing that it wasn't easy for a son to speak of these things. "But these past few months, I've known what it is to have one." The weight of these words were not missed on Marcus. He too had come to see Bellamy as a son, and knowing that it was two ways made his chest expand slightly as he stood a little taller from the pride of knowing them. "Then count me among the proudest of fathers, for the man you are today." He told him, wanting to make sure that Bellamy knew he felt the same.
"I'll do this, but only if you're by my side." Bellamy extended his hand toward Marcus, and Marcus didn't move at first. Bellamy had just spend weeks following Pike, so knowing that Bellamy still trusted Marcus' council was enough to give Marcus pause. He knew that Bellamy had struggled after Clarke left, and he had just been forced to kill the other person he ahd trusted to help him. Now he was asking for Marcus' help. After a second he lifted his arm up to take shake Bellamy's. "Together." With a nod, Marcus agreed. "I have served three chancellors--" Sidney, Jaha, Griffin. "--and I an honored to serve you." Marcus told him, lifting his free hand up to squzze Bellam'y arm before both his hands dropped.
"You are doing the right thing, Bellamy. You have always broken protocol because you wanted to keep everyone safe. Now there is no reason too. You can decided how best to do it." Pardoning people, and making peace, were the two things Marcus wanted to help him do first. Yet he knew there was one thing he needed to do before he did anything else. "Indra still trust me. . . . I hope. I would like to try to contact her. See if she help us find out if Octavia is out there." Because Marcus knew that weighted on Bellamy, and he knew that if she was alive, then she could help them handle this since she knew more of what is happening out there then they did. Once they knew for sure if she was alive or not, then Bellamy could move forward as chancellor.
Marcus had not exactly asked Bellamy if he could; but at the same time he was waiting for permission. Bellamy was chancellor now. Marcus would respect that.

Bellamy was struggling with the knowledge that people trusted him, and wanted him to be their leaders. He was struggling with the knowledge that he was worth this. "I swore to protect our people that were sent down on the dropship. But more than half of them died." But how many would be died if Bellamy had not kept them a live? "You're right. They do need someone better. Someone who hasn't failed them so many times already." Marcus said nothing, because that was not what he meant, and Bellamy damn well knew it. He was trying to find reasons to say no. Trying to find a reason to make Marcus see his self loathing and agree with it. As Pike had agreed with it, and used it to control Bellamy. "What if I only lead them to more death," That sounded more promising, because Bellamy was thinking of what ifs. Marcus wanted him to keep thinking on that. Moving toward this. "Who's the next person in line?" Marcus was.
"There are a few names, but with almost 70% of the population voting for one person, and more votes still needing to be counted . . . it's not going to be a close race, Bellamy. The people want someone that makes them feel safe, and someone they can trust." And Marcus was someone that many didn't. The ones who had followed Pike didn't trust Marcus, and thought him the worst thing that could happen to anyone.
Marcus folded his arms, and wanted Bellamy's face. His eyes moved down and off tot he side as he spoke. "One of the first men I ever arrested and executed as a guardsmen was my father." Marcus forced his eyes up to Bellamy's, but he knew that this wasn't something he spoke of often and because of that his face wasn't as stoic as he normally was. "I didn't agree with sending 100 kids to the ground, but I packed them on a ship and sent them down. I killed 320 innocent people in the culling. I have made mistakes Bellamy. Everyone has. What makes you a man, what makes you a leader is that you own up to them, and you try to do better. There is no perfect leaders. Only the ones who knows the cost of mistakes, and who seek to not make the same ones again."
"Every leader has always done what they thought was the best for their people. They need someone who's idea of the best is keeping them all alive . . . not just the as many as they can." Which is what Bellamy had done for so long. "I have faith in you, son," No, that wasn't right. "Sir," Marcus corrected.

Marcus watched his son's face as it shifted, and his arms folded over his chest in what Marcus assumed was him trying to deal with the news. "What are you talking about?" A fair question, and one Marcus knew he needed to handle with care. His hand reached out to touch his son's shoulder, needing to both give him support and take in what support he could get. He thought of his daughter, and his eyes moved toward the tablet, before looking back at Bellamy.
"Your mother died and I struggled with being a single father. Someone stepped in to help me, and we . . . grew very close." The awkward part of his conversation made his hand fall from his son. "I fell in love her, and few a few years we kept things just between us." He had been still missing his wife, she had been a saint. Perhaps lonely. Either way he knew his love was real. They had just been giving them both time to be ready. "She came to be one day . . . tears on her cheeks, and told me she was pregnant."
Marcus felt his voice choke off at that part, and he turned form Bellamy, walking toward the tablet. He picked it up and turned it on. There she was. Looking almost right at him. He had taken it from the servers, but he knew he had to stop now. If Bellamy could find it, then anyone could. His fingers touched her face before he hit delete. He spoke without turning for the rest of it. "She had no children. I had a son. If I let her so, she could have her daughter and live a good life. If I asked her to say, then she would have to give up ever having a child. . . . So I let her go." Finally he turned to look at his son. "You can not speak of this again. Ever again. If anyone found out, they would both be floated. I need your promise, son. You can't look into this. You can't talk about it. To anyone, ever."

"Neither," Marcus could tell that Bellamy was in a serious mood, which was normal these days. His hands lifted to his hips as he took a stance that was natural for Marcus; legs slightly part and shoulders back. It born from years and years of being in charge, and expecting to be obeyed. It was one he didn't use too often, but clearly Bellamy was here unofficially, and for serious matters. If Bellamy was starting to trust him again, then he would make sure to do everything he could to help the man he saw as a son.
"Abruzzi did some digging around and plans to use something against you." Plans to use something against him? Marcus could tell Bellamy was bracing himself for what he was about to say, and Marcus mentally did the same from he didn't move. "You have a kid." That....was the last thing Marcus had ever expected a young man to tell him. He didn't move for a long silent moment, before his hand lifted to tug at his face once, and then move to gesture toward Bellamy as he spoke.
"As I have gotten old, I have often wished that I had children when I was younger, but I have none." He thought back to the women in his life--which wasn't many. Only two of which had ever had children after their time together. Callie and Aurora. Both had filed permits with other men's name on them, and it had been enough time after him that he had not questioned it. Especially Callie, who had been quite a bit of time after he and her had been together. "The closest I have would be considering you as close I would get." It was laying a good bit of him bare by admitting that to Bellamy, but he didn't care. Or couldn't think past the shock of his words to think about opening himself up like that. "I . . . " Did he have a child? "Wh-Who did they say it was?" He asked, his face loosing some of it's composure as he tried to think of who it could be. In truth, there was only one. Blake.

"I said, I didn't see anyone else." Bellamy said it again, and this time Marcus knew for sure. His head tilted up and his shoulder relaxed some. He knew they were safe. He knew Bellamy was protecting them once again. That was good, but he hoped they managed to keep under the radar. He wasn't foolish enough to think that they would stop fighting, but he hoped they did it safe. Marcus gave a soft nod of his head, but said nothing. "I'll do whatever I have to do, to protect our people." That was what he want to hear. "They are always my priority. And I won't let anything happen to them." They might be, but following Pike would only get more people killed. Though it seemed Bellamy was no longer blindly following Pike, and that was enough to give him peace before he died.
"The man that didn't hesitate to walk into hell for one person. Knowing he is protecting his people, gives me peace in the final hours." Marcus told him, meaning that he was glad the man who walked into the mountain, and into the ice nation, and crossed an army was here protecting his people once again. "They are your responsibility now." Because Marcus was no longer going to be there to protect them.
Marcus knew how Bellamy took everything to heart, and that he took in the blame for many things. He didn't want him to blame himself for anything. Which was why he was giving him something important. "I hear you like The Iliad." Marcus told him, "I have The Odyssey in my room. I want you to have it. It belonged to my father, before he left." His father that he had floated, as Bellamy was now going to have to watch Marcus. "I've not known you long, but if I were to have had a son I'd want him like you." Marcus knew he would be dead by the morning, so he wasn't hiding behind fancy words, he was out right saying them.

Marcus looked behind him causally before turning down another hall, and starting his casual walk toward where he would duck into a spare room and meet with the others. Thankfully his time in power, and the fact that he had been here longer the Pike, and the fact that he had been in power on the Ark---All lead to him knowing it better then Pike and his men could ever. He knew how to get out, and knew how to disappear. "We need to talk," Apparently not as well as he thought, as Bellamy found him and came to stand before him. "Now." Marcus could tell this was serious, so he nodded his head once.
He had to take Bellamy away from where Miller and Harper were meeting, so he turned to walk the other way. "There is an old office down here that we've been using to store medical supplies. I was just coming from meeting Abby there." He lied, and hated lieing to Bellamy but knew he had to do it. As he got tot he door he pushed it open, and then closed behind Bellamy. "Is this a official visit, or did you miss our old talks?" Marcus asked in a moment of rare sass. He missed how he and Bellamy used to be a team, and now how Pike had twisted things. Bellamy believed in Pike, and instead of honoring the trust, Pike used it to get Bellamy to help him do thing.

"A question with a question, really dad?" Bellamy didn't let it go, and Marcus knew he would not. He was going to have to either find the best lie he could, and try to make sure that Bellamy didn't have the ability to find out anything about Lilly. The risk was too great and he loved his girls too much to risk their lives over this. "You can either tell me, or I'll look into it myself." No! Marcus stepped forward, a single step, and his hand lifted out to Bellamy as if to stop him. However, his hand dropped right away and sighed. He could not do anything to his son. Not even beg him.
"So let me ask again, why you have pictures of an underage girl?" Marcus looked down for a long moment, unable to look at Bellamy. After a long moment he looked up at his son, and stepped closer to him. He had to tell him the truth or this was going to unravel. Marcus struggled to look him in the eye while trying to tell him what was going on. He felt his palms sweat, and his heart beat so hard that he could feel it everywhere rather then just his chest. "Bellamy," He began but cut himself off.
Marcus forced his gaze to look up at his son, knowing that his son thought the worst thing right now, and it might even be easier to let him believe it. But he couldn't. He needed to make sure that Bellamy would never bring this up again, and never look deeper in this. He needed to protect his danger, and needed to protected Callie. "She is my daughter."

"They forced her out," Forced. They did it to kill her then, not to free her. Marcus had tried to steady Bellamy but he pulled away, walking away from him. He knew how much Bellamy loved his sister, and how far he was willing to go for her. He had shot a chancellor, stow aboard a ship bound to a planet that he didn't know was going to hold life. The fact that they thought he would be fine with them kicking her out once again was very telling of their foolishness. Clearly Pike was idiots following him.
"They gave her to the Grounders, knowing there's a kill order on our people." Marcus rested one hand on his hip and the other came up to his mouth as he thought about how best to help the girl, and not get any one killed. Meanwhile Bellamy continued trying to convince him to help, even though Marcus was already ready to jump in and help. "We need to bring her back. It's not safe out there for her." It wasn't safe out there, but for Bellamy more then his sister. She had friends, he had the families of 300 warriors. "I need to bring her back," Marcus' drug his hand over his face and tugged at the skin once before dropping his hand to his hips and staring at Bellamy.
"This is not going to be easy for you to hear, but you can't go out there after her." Marcus told him, making sure to be ready to block the door if he barged out. "Octavia has had practice sneaking in and out of camp for weeks before this. If she wanted back in she could get in. . . . . there are ways." Once he would not be speaking of. "You walk out there, however, and you are walking into an army made of friends and families of the 300 warriors that you helped killed."
"I can check the ways I know in and out of here and see if she is hiding there, and if so then we can keep her safe there---but you can't hide a girl forever." Bellamy would know that. "Even if you do go out there, son, and get her . . . . what then? You can't bring her back here."

He could see the change in Bellamy's face. "I killed the last Chancellor." Marcus was aware that Bellamy had shot one chancellor, blatantly disobeyed the next, and in self defense killed the third. It did not however, cancel him out from being the next Chancellor. "I can't accept that position." Which was his choice, but that was why Marcus was here. He wanted Bellamy to accept. "I won't," Bellamy seemed to be on the edge of panic at the idea, and Marcus stepped forward. "It's yours." Bellamy however turned away from him, and Marcus grew still.
"I won't do this," He said softly, and Marcus nodded his head. "The choice is yours," He told the man he thought of like a son, "I however, think you would make a damn fine Chacellor, and one I'd be proud to serve . . . if you'd have me." If he managed to keep his emotions in check, and not lash out. This was where they were different. Marcus was logical, and Bellamy went with his gut. "The people of this city have had to endure a lot from it's leaders. One former chancellor tried to leave thousands to die in space. Another left them to find . . . . whatever is in Jaha's head right now. Abby and I kept things from them, Pike led them to the edge of a war that would have gotten everyone killed . . . . They need someone better, Bellamy."
Marcus walked to stand beside him, so he could see his face. "When you landed here, you stepped up. You had your own reasons, but look at the histories, everyone always does. What matters is that you were not willing to loose one life, while every other leader has been willing to sacrifice the few in favor of the many. That is what the people want. They need someone they know is going to protect them, and not let pride, or hate get in their way."
"They trust you. They have always followed you. They followed you to me, they followed you to Pike . . . . stop leading them to other people, and just lead them."

"Who is she?" Bellamy's first words caught Marcus off guard, and he stood there watching his son. His arms folded over his chest as he tried to think of what Bellamy could have heard. "I found her pictures on your tablet," That was when he knew what Bellamy had found. Marcus had not been able to not see his daughter so he often kept an eye on her, but clearly his mistake had been in thinking his personal tablet was secure. He would have to delete them, and stop checking in on her. It was dangerous. Had someone else found them, then three people's lives would be over.
He took a deep breath, as the knowledge that he would not be able to keep looking in on his daughter hit him, but he had to talk about this now. He could not dwell on his mistakes. "You were on my tablet?" Marcus asked as a stalling method. "Why would you go on it?" He had never given Bellamy the password, and thus Bellamy would have had to either guess it--which might not be hard--or hack into it. Marcus took a few steps closer to his son, and tried to look disappointed, but it wasn't easy. Not with fear being foremost. If Bellamy didn't like this go then everything would start coming unraveled. Quickly. He could lie, but if Bellamy didn't believe it and he dug then others could find out about it too. He knew his son, and he knew that honor was important to them. Honor would not let him back down from this, not until he understood. It was something he loved about his son, but when faced with it . . . he hated it too.

Bellamy could not even look at him. Marcus watched Bellamy's face the whole time, not once looking away from it. Marcus' expression wasn't one of anger or disappointment, but regret hat he couldn't help Bellamy see what was happening before he would be put to death. "Leave us," Bellamy walked closer after a quite pause, but still didn't look at Marcus. To Marcus it was very telling. He had noticed that when the 10 had come back from killing the 300, Bellamy had not looked at him then either. He had taken it as hope that Bellamy would see the damaged Pike caused then, but it had not.
Marcus didn't see this as Bellamy choosing one or the other. He knew that this was hard for Bellamy and he would not place blame on Bellamy's shoulders. Marcus had done this knowing full well what would happen if he was caught. "I didn't see who else was working with you." That was good. Marcus closed his eyes for a moment in relief, before opening them back to look at Bellamy. He tried really hard to tell if Bellamy knew and was protecting the other--in which he could find hope in that in his final hours--or if he was telling the truth and would be hunting down the others. "Everything we hear is an opinion. Everything we see is a perspective." Marcus quoted the Roman general Aurelius, knowing damn well that was something they had in common. "Pike will always look for others, even if you collected them all." Because he was afraid to loose power, and his hate of the grounder left him unwilling to do anything but put them down. "When he asks you to arrest your people. To execute them for not following protocol and doing what they knew had to be done, make sure you know what you really believe . . . and what he has said is true."
Marcus knew his words fit Bellamy once, before he started following Pike. He had broken out of camp to find Clarke, he had gone into the mountain to get his friends, he had gone into the ice nation to save farm station, and crossed an army to again find one girl. Bellamy was the sheppard, and Pike was asking him to lead the sheep to the butcher.

Marcus took a moment to look over Bellamy's face before he spoke again/ He knew that what had been done so far wasn't easy, but what was to come would only make that harder for Bellamy. He had come to see him as a son, and in that time he had gotten to know him better. Bellamy didn't want the responsibility of leading anyone, but he would step up and do what had to be done to protect the people around him. He didn't shy away from getting blood on his hands, but nor did he seek it out. He had come a long way from the boy who shot the chancellor, to the man before him today. Marcus was very proud of that change.
"We are still counting votes, but by this point we know who will win. Even if every single vote left was for someone else, the others are already amounting to Over 69% of the population." Meaning they knew who was chancellor now, not couldn't officially let it out until all the votes were counted to be fair. Marcus walked over to the window and looked out for a moment, before looking back at Bellamy. "When Abby and I were doing what was best for this city, we thought joining the grounders were bring peace. When Pike did it, he thought beating them down would do it. It seems everyone has different ideas of what is best."
Turning to face Bellamy full on, Marcus folded his hands behind his back. "Yet there seems to be someone the people still trusts after the mistakes that have been made. On both my and Pikes parts." Marcus's head tilted up slightly in pride, and because while giving Pike the pin had been hard, telling Bellamy he would have it was good. He had faith that Bellamy wouldn't take them down the same road as Pike had. That Bellamy could lead them to peace if he didn't like hate rule him. "I came to give you the news now, so you can have time to adjust to it. Because tonight, once the votes are counted, you will not be a guardsmen, but the new chancellor of Arkcdia."
