Marcus sat in the cell and waited there. He wondered if he would see Abby again, and if he did he decided he was going to kiss that girl before anything else happened. But he knew he wouldn't get the chance. He had made his move against Pike, and it had not played out as he expected. It had failed. Not from poor planning, but because Bellamy Blake had stepped in his way and Marcus could not let any harm come to him. It had cost them everything, and would cost Marcus his life. Knowing how it ended, he wouldn't hurt Bellamy to finish the plan. He would only try harder to keep him away! Marcus watched as guards came and told him to stick out his hands. He did it, and they took him down the hall to the room where he figured Pike was going to talk to him. Marcus took a seat, and waited, knowing whatever was about to happen couldn't be good. When Bellamy walked into the room he felt surprised. There would be no pleading for his life here, but he hoped this opened Bellamy's eyes--if he could turn Bellamy with his last breath by making him see the truth, he go the the grave with peace, knowing Bellamy would finish this. Bellamy had always been the key. He was so proud of him for that.

not too late TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT SIDE This was not how things were upposed to be. They were not how it was supposed to go down. Bellamy had assumed that after Sinclair, Pike had no intention of killing their own people. But now . . . he was willing to execute Marcus Kane. A highly respected figure in Arkadia. Hell, someone that Bellamy admired and love . . . as a son did a father. Being at odds with him tugged at his heart to a painful extent, even if he made no show of it. Not until the Chancellor spoke those words that had caused a tear to shed from Bellamy's eyes. He felt so . . . helpless, to do anything. But he wasn't. He refused to let this be it. How could he idly stand by and watch Kane get executed?
Chances are Pike would want the others to pay the price to: Sinclair and Lincoln. No. They did not kill their own people. This was not something Bellamy could support. Which was why he had to do something about it. When the next day came, Bellamy had asked to speak to Marcus alone. Pike was hesitant but Bellamy explained that he could try to find out who he was working with . . . since he hadn't seen anyone. Which was an utter lie. But he wasn't going to turn in Miller or Harper. He hadn't even told Pike about the bug Bryan planted in Miller's jacket.
He especially wasn't going to say anything now considering what Pike was planning to do with those who he deemed traitors. It also made Bellamy extremely fearful of what would happen should his sister return to camp. Would Pike spare her? Bellamy just didn't know anymore. After managing to convince him, Pike ordered that the interrogation room be searched for any sign of bugs. Which was done. Bellamy made sure nothing was in there since he didn't want to further incriminate anyone else. Hell, he hadn't even wanted to incriminate Marcus.
After a while Bellamy was informed that he was waiting for him, and the younger male took a deep breath. This was not going to be easy. The thought of losing Marcus was . . . unbearable. He kept a stoic appearance, having to right now so that Pike would not question where his loyalties were. It was a farce he needed to keep up. Making his way into the room he looked at Kane, abruptly turning away when the sight was too much to see.
"Leave us," Bellamy ordered and without question, the guards departed and closed the door behind them. Bellamy kept his gaze averted from Marcus, trying to keep himself composed. He wasn't sure whether the guards were lingering outside the door, so he took a couple steps towards the opposite side of the table, across from Marcus. "I didn't see who else was working with you." A lie, but Bellamy looked at Marcus intently so that the older male would know it was a lie. It was his way of assuring Kane that the others would remain protected from this; that they would not be joined as a traitor. That Bellamy wouldn't turn them in.

Bellamy could not even look at him. Marcus watched Bellamy's face the whole time, not once looking away from it. Marcus' expression wasn't one of anger or disappointment, but regret hat he couldn't help Bellamy see what was happening before he would be put to death. "Leave us," Bellamy walked closer after a quite pause, but still didn't look at Marcus. To Marcus it was very telling. He had noticed that when the 10 had come back from killing the 300, Bellamy had not looked at him then either. He had taken it as hope that Bellamy would see the damaged Pike caused then, but it had not.
Marcus didn't see this as Bellamy choosing one or the other. He knew that this was hard for Bellamy and he would not place blame on Bellamy's shoulders. Marcus had done this knowing full well what would happen if he was caught. "I didn't see who else was working with you." That was good. Marcus closed his eyes for a moment in relief, before opening them back to look at Bellamy. He tried really hard to tell if Bellamy knew and was protecting the other--in which he could find hope in that in his final hours--or if he was telling the truth and would be hunting down the others. "Everything we hear is an opinion. Everything we see is a perspective." Marcus quoted the Roman general Aurelius, knowing damn well that was something they had in common. "Pike will always look for others, even if you collected them all." Because he was afraid to loose power, and his hate of the grounder left him unwilling to do anything but put them down. "When he asks you to arrest your people. To execute them for not following protocol and doing what they knew had to be done, make sure you know what you really believe . . . and what he has said is true."
Marcus knew his words fit Bellamy once, before he started following Pike. He had broken out of camp to find Clarke, he had gone into the mountain to get his friends, he had gone into the ice nation to save farm station, and crossed an army to again find one girl. Bellamy was the sheppard, and Pike was asking him to lead the sheep to the butcher.

not too late TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT SIDE Bellamy listened to the familiar quote, before he spoke of how he would look for the others. Bellamy wasn't sure if Marcus caught on to his lie. He wanted to make sure that he did. So that he knew that the delinquents, that the others would be protected. Hell, Bellamy wasn't ready to give up on Marcus either. He couldn't just stand by and watch him die. This, was not what they were about. This, was not what Bellamy was fighting for. He was fighting for the safety and security of his people. Not killing them to make an example. "I said, I didn't see anyone else." Bellamy looked at Marcus intently, his expression telling of the falsity of his words. He had damn well seen Harper and knew Miller had also joined him.
But nor did Bellamy tell Pike about that. He just concocted his own plan with Monty and Bryan to protect the others. "I'll do whatever I have to do, to protect our people." Another cryptic statement, with strong underlying tones. Bellamy hoped Marcus knew him well enough, to understand what he was saying. That Kane was his people. Lincoln, Sinclair, they were his people. Hell, even the Grounders in the cell . . . Bellamy didn't want to see them dead.
They weren't warriors. But they couldn't let them go right now either. Yet that fear of Pike executing them was still there. "They are always my priority. And I won't let anything happen to them." Kane included of course. Right now, Kane's execution was what Bellamy needed to stop. He needed to find a way to help him, even though he had no idea how. It wasn't like he could just send him out of the camp, not with the kill order out there. It wasn't safe in Arkadia for their own people and that . . . was not something Bellamy could support.

"I said, I didn't see anyone else." Bellamy said it again, and this time Marcus knew for sure. His head tilted up and his shoulder relaxed some. He knew they were safe. He knew Bellamy was protecting them once again. That was good, but he hoped they managed to keep under the radar. He wasn't foolish enough to think that they would stop fighting, but he hoped they did it safe. Marcus gave a soft nod of his head, but said nothing. "I'll do whatever I have to do, to protect our people." That was what he want to hear. "They are always my priority. And I won't let anything happen to them." They might be, but following Pike would only get more people killed. Though it seemed Bellamy was no longer blindly following Pike, and that was enough to give him peace before he died.
"The man that didn't hesitate to walk into hell for one person. Knowing he is protecting his people, gives me peace in the final hours." Marcus told him, meaning that he was glad the man who walked into the mountain, and into the ice nation, and crossed an army was here protecting his people once again. "They are your responsibility now." Because Marcus was no longer going to be there to protect them.
Marcus knew how Bellamy took everything to heart, and that he took in the blame for many things. He didn't want him to blame himself for anything. Which was why he was giving him something important. "I hear you like The Iliad." Marcus told him, "I have The Odyssey in my room. I want you to have it. It belonged to my father, before he left." His father that he had floated, as Bellamy was now going to have to watch Marcus. "I've not known you long, but if I were to have had a son I'd want him like you." Marcus knew he would be dead by the morning, so he wasn't hiding behind fancy words, he was out right saying them.
