Baron intently watched the men as they complied with the retreat. He didn’t bother chasing after them. They were unfamiliar. It didn’t matter though. What Baron did know was that it was quite bold to attack him in daylight. Whoever was behind it, was getting increasingly desperate and that too came as no surprise to the leader. Waiting until the men were fully gone, he kept looking at the distance, assured more vehicles would not come but never the less, kept a watchful eye. "Thank you," he said to the man next to him who had come to his aid. Someone who had seemingly come out of no where. Someone who had injected himself in the middle of an attack. Someone who . . . Baron had fought in such sync with, for never having met him before or familiarizing himself with the man’s combat style.
It was strange, and incredible at the same time. When he turned to look at him to say more, his eyes quickly fell to the man's upper arm as red seeped through his shirt. "You’re bleeding." Because once the adrenaline wore off, the pain would set in. Baron removed the cloth wrapped around his neck, and passed it to the man who had come to his aid. He stepped closer to him, eyes tracing over the injury. It looked like something easily patched up, but Baron would make sure. "Press it against your arm. And come with me." The hospital was too far, and one of his complexes was close enough. He owed the man anyway. He began to walk over the few steps to his car, opening the passenger’s seat to silently prompt the stranger to get in. It wasn’t everyday that Baron extended such an invitation. But, he trusted his instincts. And as he already acknowledged . . . he owed this man a debt.

Often one finds their destiny,
Baron looked at the clearly frazzled man as he clutched his shoe. At least he knew to bow in the presence of a deity. For that, Baron began to give him credit. But that credit was slowly diminishing as he staggered backwards, cursing, and then asking for something. Baron cocked his head to the side, a slightly raised eyebrow with a stoic expression. "You should choose your first words more carefully," he instructed him. Oh shit was not the way to greet a god. Furthermore, to voice such accusation of . . . 'scaring' him.
Baron's eyes followed the man as he quickly rose to his feet, taking in his sight. Well, Baron supposed he couldn't be choosy about those who summoned him. Still, he eyed the other, taking in his clothes and demenaour until he asked him about something which Baron did not quite understand. "Your what?" He questioned. Baron wasn't here to play games so decided to ignore the question and response by moving onto another. "Speak. What reason am I here?" He inquired with an air of authority, bringing his hands together so that his sleeves joined and cascaded downward like a curtain. He was summoned for a purpose and he wanted to cut straight to the chase.

Baron felt a wave of relief when she agreed to his request of no doctors. She understood. Not that he doubted she would. But still. It was one less argument they would need to have. Baron walked with her, appreciative of the physical support she granted his injured body. It certainly helped, though he was mindful of how much weight he was leaning onto her. Taking it slow was an excellent suggestion, as he focused on each step forward. A slow nod of his head in acknowledgement of her words. When she teased him about being at her place he slightly smiled in return. noticing the smile upon her own lips, grateful for the light hearted remark.
"Are you sure?" He teased in return. "It's definitely one way to get me into bed." He couldn't resist the playful comment, never forgetting the early stages of their relationship. The second time they met, and the times after where she teased him relentlessly. As they grew closer, so did his comfort level of course. And it allowed him to make teasing remarks such as these ones. "I'm sorry, Abra," he said, switching to a more sincere comment in contrast to the playful ones. "I know this isn't how you envisioned the evening to go." He knew his work wasn't exactly the safest. He knew the dangers it posed. But all he could think of . . . was better him than her.

You can be the moon Baron was just getting out of a meeting when he felt the vibration of his phone. Pulling it out he smiled when he saw it was Abra, but the tone and words of her message caused his smile to fade a bit. His expression transforming to curiosity. He looked at nothing in particular in front of him, trying to think about who she was referring to. The long distance thing was definitely difficult between them. Even though he knew it was inevitable, considering he travelled quite a bit, it didn't make it any easier to leave her nor did it make him miss Abra any less.
So he truly wanted to fix whatever seemed to be upsetting her. She was after all full naming him so clearly, she was upset. Who? was his immediately first response, mind still processing over who she could have been talking to. There was only one thing that came to mind and surely that was not what Abra was talking about. Surely, news had not reached that far . . . or had it? Still. He figured it best to wait until her response. Because if he was wrong, he would have just dug another hole for himself.

An invisible thread connects Of all the people . . . it just had to be Abra. And Baron knew it was no coincidence. Despite her attire, is the confidence in which she walked in with. The expression on her face. That smirk. Baron knew that with her especially, a towel would not suffice. He hurried to the back of the room to get a robe, clutching it and knowing in order to put it on, he had to walk to the bathroom which meant, he had to turn to face Abra again. He kept himself calm, taking a slow breath before turning to face her and keeping the distance between them. "No," he answered honestly, bluntly, without an ounce of apology in his tone.
"And if they sent you to give me free massage, I respectfully decline the offer." No way in hell she was touching him. That dance they shared had involved plenty of touching. Simultaneously to his rejection, he made his way to the bathroom, being sure to shut the door while he quickly put the robe on and only when it was closed, did he unwrap the towel. "You're still there aren't you," he asked from behind the closed door, having a strong feeling she hadn't quite left yet, before opening the door to step out.

He had to be fine. He couldn't afford to, not be fine. But Abra knew him better than most. Which was why he knew he could trust her emphatically. "No," he immediately protested upon the suggestion of going to a doctor. He paused whatever attempts he was making at walking -- relieved for the break in movement as well. He turned to look at Abra making eye contact so that she would know the sureness of his words. "Abra, no one can know about this right now," he further explained. There would be choas among the clans. Especially back home. Besides, the last thing he needed was his mother and sister there to find out.
Though the political repercussions were foremost on his mind, knowing what could happen if word got out before he could mediate the situation. In his attempt to reduce violence among the groups, this wouldn't exactly help. But also knew he had to give her some reassurance. "I have a doctor I can call if it's necessary," he told her. A trust friend that was his medical contact when here. "But right now, take me to your place." Because going home would expose the events of the night too soon. "Please," he asked. The plea more than just for taking him there, but also to understand the delicacy of the situation.

An invisible thread connects As unexpected as the kiss was, Baron also didn't know what to expect to see on the woman's face when the kiss reached its inevitable end. Something about her expression, left him silent. Until she commented on it. "Yes," he answered bluntly, aware that it was more of a rhetorical question, but felt the need to speak in this moment. Somehow, silence seemed dangerous.
"I didn't think you were in the habit of kissing your escaped would be victims." More talking. Yes. That seemed safer right now. Though he wasn't an overtalker, it was helping the shock to diminish. Enough to regain himself and snap out of whatever trance she had placed him under. But that frozen state re-emerged when she ran her thumb along his lip. Why was he not pulling? Why was he not excusing himself? Why did he feel this strange urge to part his lips.
He did nothing. Said nothing. He just watched her as she placed her thumb between her lips, causing him to exhale, slightly clenching his jaw. Were her words a threat or offer? He wasn't even sure he could decipher it, or the desire that went along to which he preferred it to be.
"What is it you want from me?" He asked, voice low, eyes locked. Fighting to keep from falling under her spell. Was this the plan? To seduce him and make right what she had failed to do before? Baron had to think logically. Yet, he found he was reminding himself to think logically. It should be natural and yet . . . here she was. And here he was, making no effort to move nor part from her company.

Baron wasn't sure what had him think that she would stay back. If the situation were reversed . . . well, he didn't even want to think about that. He took a slow breath, eyes meeting hers for a brief moment before averting his gaze downward. "I'm ok," he said with a slight nod, trying to catch his breath long enough to stand on his feet, the support of her other hand on him both an emotional as well as physical comfort. "I'm fine," he reassured once more, meeting her gaze this time while saying it, unsure what state his face was in. Taking a deep breath, he forced himself to his feet, the gesture causing him to stagger a little to the side as he bit back any facial sign of pain.
Instead, he closed his eyes in attempt to brace himself and keep his expression unaffected by the throbbing that went through his entire body. "I might have to take a raincheck on dinner," he told her in attempt to lighten the mood, though his tone lacked the usual joviality they held. Laughing wasn't going to do his ribs any good though so he supposed it was for the best. Spitting another mouthful of blood to the ground, he hung his head for a moment, trying to gather the strength to walk. "Let's go," he said quietly, taking the first step, jaw clenching, before he worked on the next.

Random Number Generator selected: 18. My muse is been beaten badly and is in bad shape, yours finds mine in this state.
Betrayal. Even in Baron's state of disorientation as he regained consciousness, he knew that much. A business meeting had turned into an ingestion of something that left him impaired. . . which had led to well, this. Lying in an alley near the headquarters of his operations, at this hour of the night. Whatever hour that was, he hadn't the faintest idea at the moment. He only knew that his body ached. He could taste blood in his mouth and various parts of him were throbbing. His eye, he presumed, was swollen for her could only see a little out of it. His lip was probably busted open, bruises upon his jaw, and perhaps a broken rib or two. That was all he could immediately tell of his condition. Quickly assessing the damage was the first step. The next, was attempting to get up. Flashes of what had happened raced through his mind.
Flying fists and feet. A man's blurred face. The sound of bitter enjoyment over the sight. It was one thing for an enemy to strike him down. Another for that enemy to be someone Baron knew well enough to place him in such a compromising position. And he was well aware that it would not go unanswered. Not even by just him, but by his clan and the others. Groaning he turned so that he was off his back, and attempted to push himself up with his hands. The gesture in itself was taxing, and Baron had to pause before attempting anything else. At least he was now on all fours, head hanging between his shoulders. He spit on the ground, a mouthful of blood landing in front of him. It was the approaching footsteps that had him raising his head a little to look at who it was. Abra.
A silent curse made its way through Baron's mind. He was supposed to meet her for dinner tonight. And well, the last thing he wanted was for her to see him like this. He raised a hand out as if to stop her though she was still several feet away. "Don't," he managed to get out. Someone even talking hurt. Even breathing hurt. With one hand still bracing him up, the other hand moved to his chest, placing his palm over it as if that would help ease the throbbing within his chest. Which, it did not. "Stay there," he added on, even more determined now to stand up on his own two feet. He cared about her too much to want to worry her.

Baron knew something was wrong. He could see it. He could feel it. Her expression. Her body language. The way she averted his gaze. Yes. He knew something was quite wrong indeed. Had someone threatened her? Was she having second thoughts about everything? So many questions and possibilities flooded his mind. But he remained entirely composed. Entirely calm. Perhaps his occupation had taught him how to do so. Perhaps it was being taught by his father all the benefits of remaining level headed. Whatever the source, he was silently grateful for it now. The situation between them hadn't been ideal when she first told him she was pregnant. He had always thought to be settled. To do things in a way that he could offer the most protection to his family. It was always a constant fear of his: not being able to protect the people that he loved.
Abra had fallen into that category. And when finding out he was going to have a child . . . that baby added to his fear. But there was also excitement. Joy in that together, they created a life and there was something truly beautiful about that. So together, they planned. Planned what they would need for a baby and Baron, was silently planning a future with her. Which was why he walked around with a ring in his pocket, yet never finding the right opportunity to ask. Still doubting it was something she would want. He knew that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her . . . regardless of how complicated the situation was. He loved her. That should make it easy enough. But right now, he knew that something was wrong, and he was focused on that. On her.
But when the words came out . . . of all the possibilities he had considered, that had not been on the foremost of his mind. He froze, eyes slightly widening yet the same expression worn on his face. Despite that, he felt the ache in his heart. An ache he had never ever experienced before. It was as extreme as the joy he had felt over the thought of being a father. Yet now, drastically the opposite. And it hurt. As if he felt his heart breaking at the sudden loss. His reaction still numbed only by shock. And the fact that she looked so . . . heartbroken herself. His time to mourn would be later. Right now, she needed him. Even if that could not stop the slight mist in his eyes. He raised a hand to her chin, gently cupping it and even more gently turning her head so that she was looking into her eyes.
So that she could see the gaze upon his eyes and hopefully, know there was no shame to be felt in this situation. He knew her well enough to know that among all the emotions she was experiencing . . . that was certainly one of them. He let a few moments of silence pass until he moved his arms to wrap around her, and pulled her against his chest. He closed his eyes, pressing her against him, holding her in a hug. Tilting his head downward a bit and to the side, he placed a lingering kiss on the side of her head. "We'll get through this," he whispered. We. Because she was not alone. Never alone.
