Random Number Generators Choice: 30. A jealous text
So gather ye demons, it seems it's your day I sin but I've paid more than ten thousand graves Abra was the opposite of calm at that very moment. She was boiling water, waiting to go over the pot. There was nothing that could calm the storm raging inside her as she stared at the cover of that magazine; it was date stamped in the last two weeks so it was recent. There on the cover was Baron, smiling, looking as handsome as ever. And there hanging of his arm was someone she didn't recognize.
A woman, young and pretty, staring at him with adoring eyes. Beautiful green eyes that Abra wanted to claw out. She hated how that woman was looking at him. Right now she was on the opposite side of the globe to him, work keeping them apart, and hated it, hated not being with him.
So when she'd seen that photo, that girl draped over him like he belonged to her, like they were more than acquaintances, she couldn't help herself. Having tossed the magazine down, she grabbed her cell. Her fingers clicked on the screen, finding his number and typing a message.
'Baron Zian Tseng, who the hell is she?'

You can be the moon Baron was just getting out of a meeting when he felt the vibration of his phone. Pulling it out he smiled when he saw it was Abra, but the tone and words of her message caused his smile to fade a bit. His expression transforming to curiosity. He looked at nothing in particular in front of him, trying to think about who she was referring to. The long distance thing was definitely difficult between them. Even though he knew it was inevitable, considering he travelled quite a bit, it didn't make it any easier to leave her nor did it make him miss Abra any less.
So he truly wanted to fix whatever seemed to be upsetting her. She was after all full naming him so clearly, she was upset. Who? was his immediately first response, mind still processing over who she could have been talking to. There was only one thing that came to mind and surely that was not what Abra was talking about. Surely, news had not reached that far . . . or had it? Still. He figured it best to wait until her response. Because if he was wrong, he would have just dug another hole for himself.

So gather ye demons, it seems it's your day I sin but I've paid more than ten thousand graves Abra gawked at his response, a growl clawing up the back of her throat, and the storm intensifying. Who. He actually had the audacity to ask who she was talking about. Her jaw clenched, eyes flicking to the magazine sitting tauntingly on the couch and then back to his one word message.
He was playing dumb and digging himself a deeper hole. Abra was not the kind of woman he should be trying to upset. She thought he had learned that lesson already. 'You know who, Baron.' She replied as she started pacing back and forth across the room. She wished he was in front of her so she could slap him.
There was a desire to call him but she didn't. She wasn't sure she'd be able to keep a level head instead of screaming at him and threatening his life again. 'That green eyed hussy hanging on you like she's in heat. Her. Who is she?'

You can be the moon Abra didn't need to be standing in front of Baron for him to know that he had just added fuel to the fire. She was growing increasingly upset so when she claimed that he knew, Baron paused in thought. It was her next message that started to bring light to who she was referring to. Had the article made it that far?! Baron supposed he hadn't considered it, or thought much of it but . . . he also knew that given the circumstances, perhaps it didn't look good after all. Her language made it clear that he perhaps should have told Abra about this in warning. Taking a slow breath he began to reply, carefully choosing his words so not to aggravate the situation.
She's the daughter of one of the clan leaders he began to explain. A good friend of my sister's too. Was that making it worse? He had no idea. He had recalled his mother complimented them that evening and upon seeing the picture after. Alright, so perhaps the situation did look really bad. He needed to elaborate. There was a banquet and we all went. Emphasis on the word all so that Abra wouldn't think it was some sort of intimate date. He just stared at his phone, waiting with bated breath to see what her next message -- or messages -- would be, rereading over his words to see if they sounded . . . appropriate to the situation in his attempt to diffuse it.

So gather ye demons, it seems it's your day I sin but I've paid more than ten thousand graves A friend - she almost laughed out loud. 'Friends don't hang off each other like that, Baron. They don't look at each other like that.' Did she need to remind him of the dance they had shared once upon a time? How her hands wondered, how their lips mingled. They hadn't been friends at that time, far from it, but she had wanted something from him, just as he had wanted something from her.
That girl might had been a friend of his sisters but she certainly wanted to be more than that with Baron, and that simply wasn't acceptable. He went on to explain that there had been a banquet and she almost wanted to throw her cell at the wall. He could had said something, told her instead of letting her see it in a magazine.
'I don't like seeing her touching you like that. Not in a magazine, and especially not when we are thousands of miles apart.' She replied, fingers hitting the screen harder than necessary. He was lucky he wasn't there. She might very well have actually slapped him.

You can be the moon Baron read over her words carefully. He wasn't sure whether to find it endearing or concerning. But, what he did know was that upon reading her second statement, he was certainly made a mistake in not informing her. That the distance was difficult for them both. And that, she did not seem to approve of . . . what Baron still perceived as a friendship. Though he did know the subtle comments his mother and her father would make. Still. His priority was ensuring Abra felt respected.
I promise it is not like that between us, Abra, he attempted to reassure. I have known her since I was a child. And we have never been anything more than friends. In the time he was adopted by his father and accepted into the Tseng family. I'm sorry that you had to find out this way. I know the distance is difficult, and I never meant to upset or hurt you. With the distance, time differences, and busyness of their lives . . . well, it was all difficult to cope with. Next time I'll tell you ahead of time. So that she didn't find out this way. Will you forgive me? Because he would take full ownership of it.

So gather ye demons, it seems it's your day I sin but I've paid more than ten thousand graves Abra exhaled hard as she read his message once then twice, letting the tension seep from his shoulders and allowing herself to relax a bit. Baron seemed sincere in his apology, and she supposed she owed him the benefit of the doubt. He had never done anything to intentionally hurt her. In fact he'd tried to protect her after she'd tried to kill him. But knowing that didn't do much to sooth her anger, or take the sting out of what she'd seen.
'Of course I forgive you.' That was a stupid question for him to ask when he hadn't, technically, done anything wrong. Abra was just being... possessive and jealous. She took a moment before reply so take a breath and will herself to calm down, a moment to choose her next words carefully. 'Do tell me the next time some beautiful woman is going to be hanging on my boyfriends arm. It would be nice to know who needs to be taken care of.'
She owed him the benefit of the doubt, that much was true, but that didn't mean she wasn't a woman scorned. Had he forgotten his girlfriend was a killer? That hurting people, making them disappear, was something she excelled at? It had occurred to her that he might had been angry at her for threatening his friend, but it also occurred to her that she didn't care at that moment.

You can be the moon Baron felt a wave of relief wash over him when she said that she forgave him. A smile reappeared on his lips but upon reading her next statement, he faded. Knowing her . . . work history, something told him that she wasn't bluffing when she spoke of needing to take care of someone. Abra, don't harm her please, he began to say. She's a good friend of my family's. And besides, her father is a clan leader. You know the wrath that can bring if something happens to her. He was well aware that this could regress his efforts in convincing Abra that there was nothing going on.
But his words were true. She was a friend, and Baron was considering his sister's feelings towards her as well. I will tell you next time, but you have to promise me that you won't harm anyone that you don't, approve of. That was the best way he could phrase it. Part of him felt flattered that she felt so strongly about him, the possessive nature endearing. Yet, the other part of him . . . the part of him that remember how he and Abra met, made him feel worried for whoever was on the receiving end of her anger.

So gather ye demons, it seems it's your day I sin but I've paid more than ten thousand graves Somewhere in the back of her mind Abra knew that she was being irrational, that her emotions, specifically her jealousy, were getting the better of her. But knowing this didn't stop the rising anger bought about but his latest text messages. The daughter of a clan leader, his sisters friend, his childhood friend, she scoffed out loud. As if that would stop her.
Abra was not afraid of the clans nor was she worried about the consequences of harming one of them. She was a killer, skilled at making people disappear and also disappearing herself. But at the same time she understood how important maintaining peace between the clans was to Baron. Abra didn't want to jeopardize all of his hard work, all of the work his father had done before him.
'I'm not in the business of making promises I can't keep.' She sent back, the tone of the message snappish. Then she groaned in frustration for being so torn between wanting to destroy that young woman's life and keeping Baron happy. 'Fine. I won't harm her -- not this time.'

You can be the moon Baron looked up from his phone upon reading her last couple messages, clenching his jaw at the emotion that it brought forth. Part of him wanted to call her, but he was all too aware that he was still in his building and that anyone could overhear the conversation. Plus, he doubted either of them had the emotions fully in check to have a verbal conversation. Not any time, he replied.
She is family, Abra. He could practically hear her voice when reading what she wrote, and his own tone was growing stern. I can not have anything happen to her. He didn't even want to begin to imagine the grief that would ensue. Because, well, he knew what Abra was capable of. Swear to me that you will not do anything. Ever. Take out your anger on me, but not anyone else that you may consider at fault. Do whatever she wanted to him, but he couldn't allow anything to happen to those his family was close to . . . or those that were practically considered to be family.

So gather ye demons, it seems it's your day I sin but I've paid more than ten thousand graves
There was a legitimate anger as she read his messages once, then twice, then trice. It wasn't playful banter, wasn't flirtatious teasing, his words were stern, to the point, issuing orders that enticed white-hot anger to course through her veins like liquid lava. Family, he said. Couldn't have anything happen to her, he explained. Abra had never considered herself abusive to her partners but if he had been in font of her right then and there, she couldn't guarantee she wouldn't have hit him out of anger.
The seconds dragged into minutes as she typed out and answer, deleted it, and typed it out again. There weren't words to describe her emotions right now. 'I am not promising you anything. And you don't tell me what to do.' She sent... and then waited... but she wasn't finished yet, she still ad more to say. 'Do what you want, Baron. Go play house with your little hussy, I don't care.' With that she threw her phone down, intent on not replying again.
