After thinking about it Costia knew that this welcome made sense, she wasn’t seen as important enough to be greeted by the queen herself and Azgeda wasn’t willing to risk her safety just so that she could greet an ambassador. “As long as I get an audience with the queen, it doesn’t matter how I am welcomed” she finally told prince Roan, not wanting to spark anger by arguing about this. She knew that Lexa wouldn’t be appreciative if she made things worse by arguing before she’d even spoken to Nia. She’d come here to help end the war, arguing with the prince was a step in the wrong direction “I apologise for assuming that I am worthy of being greeted by your queen” the apology tasted bitter on her tongue but knew that acting respectfully to those that were of a high rank was key to her mission of recruiting them to join the commander’s coalition.
Assassins were a real threat to the queen’s life, Costia couldn’t say that she’d lose any sleep over her assassination but she understood why such measures to preserve her life were in place. “I’m happy to wait if you truly believe that I could be a threat to her” she had to respect that Azgeda obviously valued the life of their queen and she was a very real threat to her safety in their eyes until they’d proven otherwise. At the prince’s comment, Costia couldn’t help the small smile that appeared on her face “I have only met your mother in passing” she admitted “but I’ve heard enough about her to make my own judgements” Lexa had her work cut out for her if she wanted all twelve clans to be united, it was clear that Nia did not want to be a part of the coalition, but they needed Azgeda to be included in the coalition if they wanted to stop the war that had been tearing their clans apart. “She can discuss her terms with the commander, but I can’t promise that they’ll be accepted” she told the prince, knowing that Lexa would probably be unwilling to put Nia in a position of power when she’d proven that she could be dangerous and was a clear threat to their alliance.

Costia hadn’t thought that she’d been in danger when she’d left Polis, she’d never been a target before, never been attacked outside of the battlefield and yet now she was sat huddled in a cell that seemed to be far too cold and without the appropriate clothes for such temperatures. She’d travelled alone before and never even encountered an opportunistic nomad that had mistaken her for an easy target to rob. She’d never suspected that she could be in danger, not more so than any other warrior that was travelling alone through the forest, there were obviously dangers but nothing that she didn’t think she could handle. She hadn’t been expecting an ambush, she was alone and within Trikru territory, so she wasn’t a threat to anybody. Her guard had been down, which now when she looked back on it, she saw that it had been foolish to relax even within her clan's own territory. She remembered thinking that it was strangely quiet in a place which should have been alive with the sound of birds and other forms of wildlife, her gut was telling her that something was wrong but she didn’t think anything was off. Then before she could react, she’d been dragged off of her horse and a blow to the head had knocked her out cold.
When she’d woken, she’d been in this same cell with her hands bound together, she’d had no idea where she was or who her captors were. However that changed fairly quickly as shortly after she woke, a couple of guards came to check on her. After seeing that she was awake, they dragged her from the cell and she could do little to resist, not when there were two of them and her hands were bound so that she couldn’t defend herself. She’d been taken to see their leader and the moment that she saw who that was, Costia knew where she was. Queen Nia of Azgeda was the one guilty of organising her kidnapping and at first Costia was angry that set her warriors on her for no apparent reason. Azgeda weren’t a part of the coalition, they’d refused to join Lexa’s cause and that made them a threat, but Costia was still confused about why they’d targeted her. That was until Nia began her questioning, apparently she knew of her relationship with the commander and she seemed intent on finding out information about the commander, she wanted to know her secrets, her plans and strategies. Costia wouldn’t have told her anything even if she could, but the fact was that Costia knew nothing that Nia wanted to know. Lexa never spoke to her about such things and when it became apparent that she had no intention of talking, Nia used other means of getting the information.
At first the torture had been bearable, it hurt but Costia could cope without wanting to tell her captors anything, she had no information that would be of any use to the Ice Queen anyway but after a while it got worse. Costia didn’t know how long it had been since she’d been taken, she guessed at least a couple of days but every so often she’d be dragged out of her cell again and tortured for the same information that she just didn’t have. Her whole body hurt, she’d been burnt and cut until she couldn’t take it anymore, she just wanted the pain to end and she didn’t care anymore about how it ended. She didn’t expect to leave Azgeda alive, she knew that soon Nia would realise that she was telling the truth and she didn’t have any of the information that she sought and then she’d be killed, there would be no point to keeping her around, the only thing there would be left to do would be to cause Lexa the most amount of pain possible. Costia had accepted her fate, she’d been tortured and made to beg for the pain to end, only for the Queen to refuse to end her suffering. Costia was glad that Lexa hadn’t shared any information with her as she was sure that she would have broken and told Nia what she wanted to know, she was ashamed to admit it, even to herself but by this point she was prepared to do anything to get the pain to stop, even if at first she’d been sure that she’d never betray her commander.

Costia was relieved that Lexa wasn't going to send her away, she knew that she would have little choice but to follow a direct order that was given to her by her commander. Even if she didn’t want to, she knew that it was within Lexa’s rights to send her away if she no longer wanted her. She was relieved to discover that Lexa didn’t want her to leave, the pain of being sent away by the woman that she loved would be more painful than any physical wound ever could be, Costia was sure of that. She had worried about what would happen between them if Lexa won the conclave, if things between them would change and she knew that they inevitably would but as long as they were together, she was sure that they would be fine. She’d always tried to avoid thinking about what would happen if Lexa had lost the conclave, it wasn’t worth thinking about, it was too painful to think about and deep down Costia knew that she never really believed that Lexa could lose.“Good… Because I have no intention of leaving” Costia muttered, not as long as Lexa wanted her, as long as she was wanted, she would never leave. The moment Lexa stopped wanting her, she would leave without argument. There would be no point for her to stick around if she was unwanted. She’d always been free to leave whenever she wanted to, but she’d chosen to stay because she loved Lexa and that wasn’t going to change now because she was the commander. Costia had always known that there was a possibility that her lover would become their next leader, if she hadn’t wanted that burden then she’d had every opportunity to walk away before becoming attached. Now goodbye was something she couldn’t imagine herself saying to the other woman.
A faint smile appeared on Costia’s face as Lexa leaned in to kiss her, it was just another sign that showed her that the woman wanted her and would continue to want her, no matter what her rank was and what responsibilities she now had as the commander. “Stay with me” she heard Lexa say in reply to her question, Costia knew Lexa well enough to know that she didn’t want to be alone at that moment and she wasn’t about to leave her alone after what she’d just had to do, nodding her head slightly she accepted the request. “If you want me to stay, then I will…” she wouldn’t leave her lover to deal with everything by herself, Costia knew that she was hurting after the conclave and the pain wasn’t just due to the physical wounds that she’d obtained. All she wanted was to lessen Lexa’s pain and to help her, if her presence helped her, even in the smallest of ways then Costia would stay. She’d do anything that Lexa asked if it would take her pain away. Costia couldn’t bare to see the woman that she loved in pain, she was sure that the bruises that marked her skin looked far worse than they actually were but it didn’t make it any easier for her to see her partner wounded. “If you need anything, just ask” she told the commander gently, wanting her to know that she intended to stay with her, despite having already voiced that she would. She knew that Lexa had servants that would cater to her needs, but she wanted her to at least have some privacy to mourn the people that she had lost in the conclave, she wouldn’t be able to do that if she was surrounded by servants, Costia knew that she wouldn’t allow them to see her vulnerability.

"I understand" she muttered into Lexa's shoulder as she spoke about how she'd have to give her orders like her other subjects. Costia understood that things would have to change between them, she was Lexa's subject first and her lover second. She knew that, that was how things would be if Lexa ever became commander, she'd prepared herself for it, even if she didn't feel entirely ready for things to change yet. "I should be commanding you to pack and leave for Tondc in the morning" at Lexa's words, Costia froze, change was inevitable but would she really order her to leave Polis, to be ordered back to Tondc would be painful but she'd go, if Lexa ordered her to leave then she would. To spare her lover the pain of an argument when she knew that it wouldn't be what she wanted, but what Titus expected of her.
As Lexa pulled back to look her in the face, Costia felt herself relax slightly when she heard the commander tell her that she wanted her to stay, that she needed her. "Lexa, I want to stay" she told her, her tone firm as a small smile appeared on her face as she realised that she would not be forced to leave. Lexa didn't even need to ask her to stay because as long as Lexa wanted her, she'd always be there. Even if her being commander complicated things for them, her feelings wouldn't change, she was certain of that. "I'll never want to leave you" she felt like it was something that she had to voice, to tell her lover that even if she was forced to send her away in the end, that she wouldn't want to leave her even if she appeared to leave without protest. "Nothing that won't heal in time" all wounds healed with times, even the ones that weren't physical, some wounds just took longer than others. Lexa didn't look to be seriously injured and that was a huge relief to Costia, but she knew that the new commander couldn't have escaped the conclave without any physical wounds. As Lexa let go of her and twisted around to show her the bruise that covered her upper arm and a small gasp of surprise escaped her lips. Instantly, she reached forwards to grab Lexa's wrist gently and pull her closer so that she could get a better look at the injury, her other hand came up to lightly brush the discoloured skin with her finger tips. She wondered how she'd gotten the injury but knew better than to ask, she didn't want Lexa to have to relive the conclave, having to fight people that she cared about must've been hard, to have to see it again in her mind would be unnecessary torture. Instead she looked up to meet Lexa's gaze and asked "how can I help?" she wanted to help her, to relieve some of her pain, even if she wasn't a healer. If she could somehow lessen the other girls pain then she'd feel a lot more useful than she did at the current moment.

Costia watched as Lexa walked towards her, she did look different than she had the last time that they'd seen each other and the differences went beyond the tattoos on her skin. The way she held herself was different, she stood up straighter, even her tone of voice was different, but she was still Lexa. Costia could see the girl that she knew behind it all, things would be different, they had to be but that didn't mean that they couldn't find happiness with each other. The girl couldn't pretend that it wasn't a shock to see how much Lexa seemed to have changed in such a short space of time, but mostly she was relieved that her lover had survived at all, she didn't care if things were different between them, she didn't even care if Lexa sent her away from Polis and ordered her never to return, as long as she was alive. Things would be difficult, but she couldn't recall a time when they were ever easy, easy didn't exist in their world.
As Lexa opened out her arms as if to hug her, Costia gladly stepped into her embrace, wrapping her own arms around the new commander. "I know" she muttered in response to Lexa's words, she knew that things had forever changed between them. Lexa was now her superior, she was to follow her orders, whatever those orders might be and Costia didn't know exactly how to feel about that. She was used to following orders, but she'd never had to take them from the girl that she loved. Costia couldn't imagine a life without Lexa, she could never imagine returning to Tondc without her, to live permanently without her and so she was willing to work through their difficulties with her. Lexa being commander shouldn't have to change anything between them, they were still the same people they had always been, only now their ranks separated them. "Your rank doesn't change the way that I feel about you Lexa" nothing could do that, love was a complicated emotion, even if she wanted to just switch her feelings for the heda off, Costia doubted that she'd be able to.
Lexa's acknowledgement of the celebrations taking place in Polis made Costia draw back from the hug "There is always a celebration after a new heda is chosen" she told her, forcing a small smile. Lexa knew this, she was sure of it. It was a time of mourning, for the former commander who'd had to die for the new commander to ascend, but it was also a time of celebration, to celebrate their new leader and to pray that their new leader ruled over them wisely. Costia knew that Lexa didn't feel like celebrating, it was written all over her face and in the way she spoke of the subject, the conclave had been hard on her. Slaughtering her siblings would have been hard for her, even if it was what she'd been trained for, Costia could never imagine doing such a thing if she'd had anything close to a sibling. "Are you hurt?" she questioned her lover and for the first time since entering the room, her eyes scanned the commanders body in search of any injuries that she'd sustained in the battle, emotionally she was sure that Lexa must be hurting but she was more concerned about any physical injuries that she had, injuries that could be fixed quickly, the scars that she had inside would take longer to heal.

When they’d received news of the previous commander’s death, Costia had, had to say goodbye to Lexa so that she could ready herself for the conclave. She’d had no idea if she’d ever see the other girl again but she had faith in Lexa’s skills as a warrior. Lexa had been determined to win the conclave when she’d left, she seemed confident of victory but that did little to ease Costia’s mind. Lexa had the task of fighting with the children that she’d come to know as her siblings, each one had been trained to take part in their conclave, this was the moment that they’d all been waiting for, each one would be fighting for their life and they wouldn’t go down easily.
Costia couldn’t help but worry, the woman that she loved was going to be fighting for her life, this wasn’t like in any other battle, only one natblida would emerge from the conclave alive. Many times Costia had paced the floor of her room inside the tower, unable to settle for more than a couple of minutes at a time. When the doors to her room opened without warning, Costia spun on her heels in surprise, her hands clenched into fists at her sides. She relaxed slightly when she realised that it was Gustus and immediately begun to search his face in the hopes of finding something there that might hint at the result of the conclave. Then he spoke to her “the commander has sent for you” and her whole body seemed to relax, that meant that Lexa was okay. Why else would the commander send for her, she wasn’t anybody important. She started walking towards the door, setting a brisk pace in her eagerness to see Lexa again, but as she reached the door, Gustus placed a restraining hand on her shoulder. As soon as she felt his hand on her shoulder, she stared up at him and noticed the look on her mentors face, he was sending her a silent warning that made her remember where they were. She was in Polis tower and she wasn’t going to see her lover, she was going to see their new commander, she had to show the utmost respect for their leader.
Nodding her head slightly in understanding, Costia allowed Gustus to take the lead and she followed him from her room and down the hall. She followed him to the top floor, where the commander's room was located and waited patiently whilst he knocked on the door before gesturing for her to enter the room. He didn’t follow her inside as she slowly pushed the door open and closed it behind her. When she finally began to look around the room, her eyes immediately landed upon the woman who was standing in her night robe, near the window. Momentarily Costia could think of nothing else but the fact that Lexa was alive and standing in the same room as her, then she noticed the new tattoos that decorated her skin and she took a step forwards “Heda” she muttered a greeting, to make sure that the other woman had noticed her arrival, although she found it hard to believe that she’d have missed Gustus’ knocking. Then she offered a respectful bow, an acknowledgement to Lexa’s new rank. Despite their relationship, Costia knew that she couldn’t treat Lexa like she had before, as the commander, she demanded respect, from everyone, it didn’t matter who they were.

"The commander is an extremely busy woman, if she could make the journey here then she would have" Costia was quick to defend the Heda as the prince spoke to her "but she was very clear that I should speak with the queen, I assumed that she'd be interested in what the commander had to say" she had no intention of leaving Azgeda territory until she'd spoken with queen Nia and given her the commanders message. "I can wait if I need to" she wasn't pleased with the idea of waiting for the queen but if she refused to prioritise her then she'd wait so that she could talk to her about Azgeda joining the coalition, she had no idea how successful that conversation would be though.
Raising an eyebrow at Roan's words she couldn't help the glare that appeared on her face "do you think I'd come alone if I brought a message of war?" she didn't trust Azgeda not to shoot the messenger when they brought a message such as that. "I'm here to talk to your queen about lasting peace, the commander thinks that if Azgeda join her coalition then we could live without the fear of war" if the wars ended then maybe they could have a promising future, they wouldn't have to live in fear "we've spent too long tearing each other apart when we could be stronger together" ash

Costia sat upon the back of her horse, she was wearing a warm winter coat that was lined with the soft fur that had come from some sort of animal. She very rarely felt the need to wear a coat, the weather in Polis was never cold enough to force you to wear a coat over your armour. However, she wasn't in Polis, she was currently being escorted into Azgeda territory by two Azgeda warriors and the temperature was much cooler than back in her own familiar territory. Her weapons had been confiscated at the border and although she felt uncomfortable without a weapon on her in hostile territory, she knew that if an Azgeda warrior wanted to pass through Trikru territory then they'd be given the same treatment.
She wouldn't even be taking the journey in the first place if Lexa hadn't asked her to go on her behalf, it was no secret that Azgeda had been hostile recently. The Commander had been trying to form a coalition with the other clans so that they could finally have lasting peace. However, she'd only managed to persuade eleven out of twelve clans to join her cause, Azgeda was the only clan left that had so far refused to join the coalition. As of yet, they had no idea what Queen Nia's aim was, Azgeda was a large clan and they could potentially pose a threat to the commander's plans for peace. Costia was travelling on Lexa's behalf to pitch the idea of the coalition to the queen, of course she'd heard it all before but this way they hoped to find out what the queen's intentions were, if she planned to start another war so soon after the last one had ended, if she was planning a revolution or if her refusal to enter the commanders coalition was completely innocent.
Costia could now see what looked like a village up ahead and a figure stood outside waiting to greet them. As they drew nearer, Costia couldn't help the scowl that appeared on her face but it vanished just as quickly as it had appeared. Dismounting from her horse, she approached the man whom had been waiting for them and she dipped her head briefly out of respect "Prince Roan..." she muttered a greeting "I was expecting Queen Nia" she should've expected the Prince instead of his mother, obviously the Queen wouldn't want to waste her time on anyone other than the commander herself. She wouldn't waste her time on a lowly warrior, it didn't matter who she had been sent by.ash

News of the Commanders death had come as a shock to Costia, she'd expected to have more time with Lexa before she was called to compete in the conclave. Instead Lexa, like all of the nightbloods in Polis, had to fight in the conclave against the other nightbloods to determine which of them would be chosen by the Commanders spirit. The hours that followed were the hardest the young warrior had, had to endure in her life. With no way of knowing whether Lexa had died in the conclave or had been chosen to be the next Commander, Costia could do very little to distract her mind from going to some very dark places. The odds were stacked against Lexa making it out of the conclave alive, she had to fight against eight other nightbloods, all had been trained for this very moment and they'd all grown up together. She knew that this would not only challenge their physical strength but also their mental strength by forcing them to slaughter the children that they'd grown up alongside.
The relief she had felt when the guards had approached her and told her that the Heda wished to see her had been immense. It meant that Lexa was alive... But it also meant that she was now Heda and Costia didn't know what to expect when she next saw her. If Lexa would be somehow different after the ceremony. Even if Lexa remained completely unchanged a lot of other things would be different. Following the guards down the hall, she almost didn't notice when they came to a halt in front of a large set of double doors. Looking to the guards she watched as they each gave a slight nod of their heads in answer to her silent question, they'd arrived. The door opened slowly and she stepped into the room, hearing the door close behind her she glanced backwards reflexively but there was nothing to see. "I was starting to think you weren't coming..." she heard the familiar voice and froze, turning her gaze to scan the room. A relieved smile appeared on her face as she caught sight of her lover but it quickly disappeared and turned into a frown of concern "are you hurt?" she asked, not really believing that the new Heda would be left alone if she was seriously injured. However, there was a lot of black blood on her and Costia was unsure about how much of it was hers. She could see several cuts and bruises on the girls body from where she was and although she wanted nothing more to go to her, she was hesitant. "I came as soon as I heard..." she muttered, her hands curling into fists at her side as she watched her lover. She didn't know what she had expected to find, Lexa certainly looked like Lexa... She looked exactly like she had the last time Costia had seen her, apart from the obvious signs that she'd been in a recent battle.
Finally as if something had snapped inside of her, Costia moved. Crossing to stand in front of Lexa, she reached out tentatively and took her hand looking at the cuts on her arm. Wincing at the dark blood that oozed from the wounds. None of the injuries looked too serious, nothing that she should really be worried about and Lexa didn't look as if they were bothering her too much, but still she fussed. She knew that she was lucky to be standing there with Lexa at all, she'd never expected to see the girl again, she had complete faith in her capabilities as a warrior, but she had barely dared to hope that the girl she loved could take on eight other warriors in a fight to the death. Especially when the stakes were so high.

Costia couldn't help but smile as Lexa kissed her forehead, it was reassuring for her to hear Lexa tell her that she loved her. Their relationship wasn't always the most relaxed, there was a lot that put a lot of strain on it and to just have the verbal reassurance that her lover still reciprocated her feelings meant a lot to Costia. As she watched Lexa wash away the black paint from her face, somehow she always looked more human when the war paint was gone, the face paint was worn by all of their people whenever they went into battle, but that was just it. The paint reminded Costia of war, it was harsh and bold and when Lexa took it off it was like looking at a completely different person and in a sense you were, Lexa and Heda were two completely different people. Heda was a ruthless leader that nobody dared to question, Lexa was the girl that Costia had fallen in love with, she was stubborn but also gentle and kind.
Costia watched as Lexa dried her face and crawled into the bed "Thank you" she muttered her thanks to the girl, the smile never leaving her face as she started to ready herself for bed. She placed her sword by the bed, within easy reach if she should need it. Polis was safe, Lexa's bedroom was probably the safest place in Polis, it was more of a habit that Costia had to sleep with her weapon nearby. She perched on the edge of the bed as she tugged her boots off with a sigh and eventually joined her lover in the bed. "I cannot remember the last time we were in Tondc together" she muttered as she lay there "it means a lot to me... You staying in the village with me" she told Lexa softly as she stared at her.

"I would love for you to come with me Lexa" Costia told her, a confused expression on her face as she raised her gaze to watch her lover. "If I thought we needed time apart I'd tell you, but I don't think that's what we need" she told her as she rose from her seat on the bed. She believed the whole reason that they fought was because of the lack of time Lexa had as Heda. The last thing they needed was more time apart. Closing the distance between them she offered a small smile "I would never want to spend time away from you... Not really" she didn't understand her lovers words, it sounded as if she believed that Costia didn't want her anymore, nothing could be further from the truth.
"Of course I want you to come with me, nothing would please me more" she assured her, almost hesitantly she placed a hand on her arm "the real question is why you'd think otherwise, you know how much I care for you" she worried about what Titus would say when Lexa revealed that she wanted to remain in Tondc for a while, but Lexa could do what she wanted and she wasn't one to let others make decisions for her. Her gaze flickered down momentarily "All I want is for you to be happy, would you be happy if I stayed in Tondc without you?" she asked her, almost apprehensively, maybe afraid of what the answer would be.

As Lexa pulled the covers up to cover them Costia closed her eyes, holding her breath as she heard Lexa's words. They surprised her, never before had Lexa spoken about her destiny in this way. It was what was written, there was no way to change it. They couldn't magically turn her blood from black to red and Costia hated that, she hated that Lexa's whole life was planned out for her, she didn't have a say in what she did. Costia had a choice, she could be anything she wanted to be, a scout, a warrior, she could even leave her clan and travel far away if that was what she wanted. But Lexa didn't have that choice, she had a duty to remain where she was in case she was chosen to be the next Heda. "Well, if there is anything that we've learned from life it is that life isn't fair, sometimes it can be cruel... Most of the time it is cruel" she muttered, pressing her lips softly to rest upon Lexa's arm.
"We could still have that" the warrior mumbled, her brow furrowing as if she didn't really understand why their lives had to be ruled by Lexa's rank. "But maybe I am kidding myself" letting out a sigh she took Lexa's hand, casually playing with her fingers. "All I know is that I want to spend the rest of my life with you, however long... Or short that may be" she told her as she bit her lip softly "you should not worry, if you become Heda nothing will change, people might try to separate us but they will never succeed, I'll stay by your side wherever you go" she told her stubbornly as she pushed everything from her mind, she refused to believe that they could be separated by anyone or anything, their bond was too strong "You will never have to live a day without me because I will always be right there by your side, nothing ever has to change Lexa... I don't care if you become Heda, you'll always just be Lexa to me, you'll be the same person you've always been" it was what she believed, she would never treat Lexa any differently, she'd be the same person she always had been, just with more responsibility. Things didn't have to change, she wouldn't accept that they had to change. "You don't have to be afraid of things changing, I won't allow them to change" Lexa wasn't one to ever admit to being scared, she was strong and usually supported Costia in her weaker moments, it was never the other way around.

A young woman walked cautiously through the forest she had once called home. her dark hair was braided and she wore the familiar black face paint of a Trikru warrior. However, she no longer shared their territory, she belonged in Polis now, the Capitol had been where her heart had led her after the woman she loved was called to lead her people. However Costia was travelling back to the village she'd grown up in, to defend her people from a new threat. Not long ago people had fallen from the sky, from what she'd heard they were dangerous. Apparently they even had guns, although she had no idea how or why they would need such dangerous weapons.
Costia was currently travelling towards a river that she knew of, water was something that she could not go without and she'd been travelling all day. Of course, she could have borrowed a horse and covered the distance to the village at a much faster rate, but she didn't want to be too conspicuous and she definitely didn't want to be spotted by these Sky People, not if they were as dangerous as they were rumoured to be. The warriors first priority was to her village, to her clan and she intended to reach Tondc before sundown. Costia knew that even if she'd prefer to stay in Polis, she needed to travel such a distance to protect her people, the people of Tondc were vulnerable, especially when most eyes would be watching the enemy. Costia had to be there to protect the elderly and the children that were too young to wield a weapon.
Brushing a branch out of her way the river came into view and the first hint of a smile appeared upon her face. Without bothering to check her surroundings, Costia crossed to crouch at the waters edge, taking out her water gourd she dipped it carefully into the clear liquid that lapped at her feet. It was so peaceful, not a sound disturbed her as she took the gourd from the water and felt the pleasing weight of the nourishing liquid inside it. That was when it hit her, it was too quiet... Usually she could easily pick out the sound of the birds in the trees, the chirping of the insects... But all of that was gone now. Looking up from the task at hand, she saw something that made her freeze in her place, her hand instinctively going to her sword as she rose slowly to her feet. Somebody was watching her, a boy, he wore weird clothes made from unfamiliar material. He obviously not of the twelve clans and the weapon the he carried made her mind jump to a terrifying conclusion. He carried a gun, he was of Skaikru, he was the enemy and she'd allowed him to get too close, far too close. Taking a tentative step backwards she risked a glance over her shoulder and realised that she had but two options. Either she could flee from the enemy and risk leading him straight to her people or she could stay and fight and risk her own life. The decision was almost instantaneous as she took her sword from its sheath and took on a defensive stance, her glare locked on the boy. Levi Kazuto

Costia gave a slight shrug of her shoulders at Lexa's question "I don't know, a week or two... Not long" she hoped her words reassured the Commander. She knew how concerned she got on the rare occasions that Costia left Polis. She didn't like her to worry, not when she knew that she was more than capable of defending herself. As Lexa climbed off of her lap, Costia watched her as she turned her back on her, seemingly undoing the braids in her hair. She couldn't tell if she was upset with the idea of her staying in Tondc for a prolonged period of time. "I know about the risks of staying in Tondc, but I have a duty to my people, just like you.. I don't have the same responsibilities as you Lexa, but they are my people and they have suffered greatly recently and I have to at least try to rebuild what they once had" she muttered, lowering her gaze to look at her lap. Living in Polis wasn't that bad, she was used to it, it was safe. It was almost peaceful, compared to the life she used to live in Tondc, but she'd enjoy seeing the village again even after such tragedy had struck. At her words Costia arched an eyebrow in surprise "What about Titus?" she questioned her "I don't think he'd approve" the Flamekeeper wasn't shy about showing his disapproval for some of Lexa's decisions. It was kind of his job to give her advice, even if his advice could become bothersome after a while "If you want to stay with me, I won't protest..." the idea delighted the warrior, Lexa rarely left Polis unless there was a dire need for her help. Costia couldn't remember the last time they'd been in Tondc together.

Costia's hands moved to rest upon the small of Lexa's back as she moved over onto her lap "Of course... It is foolish to worry, we outnumber them, their losses will be greater than ours" she muttered, more to reassure herself than anything else. As Lexa moved her lips back to meet Costia's to kiss her again, this time Costia did not shy away as Lexa's hands came up to rest on the back of her neck. As Lexa pulled away once again, Costia watched her intently listening to her words. Nodding her head slowly she offered a small smile "I do understand Lexa... I understand that I must follow orders, I am no stranger to that, I've had to follow orders all my life" she muttered as Lexa moved her hands to her face. "I also understand how much you care for me... I do not want to make things difficult for you" she told her, stroking a hand up and down her spine softly. Hesitantly she pursed her lips "I do however, want to make a small request... If you wouldn't mind, I'd like to stay in Tondc for a while, after Skaikru have been taken care of, to help them rebuild and recover from their losses" it felt like so long since she had seen Gustus and truth be told she missed her guardian and the village that she had once called home. It was just a matter of whether or not Lexa would allow her to remain behind in the village instead of accompanying her back to Polis. amber3
