So this was it huh? Earth...Cas wasn’t exactly sure of what she’d expected. She’d been told stories all her life about the homeland her people had been forced to flee. Of course not even her parents had seen Earth. For generations now they’d been living in space. So..What had she thought would be waiting for them all? Death and destruction was a possibility. But Cas tried to keep her thinking positive. She was a realist. But you could be realistic without the doom and gloom vibe. A lot of things were out of her control. (Yeah, she hated that by the way.) If the shipped crashed...There was fuck all she could do. And if the radiation was too much to survive like everyone feared...Even a safe landing wouldn’t do them much good. But that stuff was all above her head. So..She’d really had no choice but to work under the assumption that the shuttle they’d been given would land properly rather than hurtle from the sky in a great ball of fire and that radiation wouldn’t be the thing that got them. Honestly..She’d spent more time wondering how they’d feed themselves and you know..survive than dreaming of the untold glories the little blue body had to offer them. So...How did the planet live up to the daydream? Hard to say given that so little time had been devoted to that. But well..They could do worse. Was it the big 17th bash she’d envisioned? No. But then..she honestly wasn't much of the party type. She was a free spirit; but, typically parties were boring as all hell. She preferred her sleuthing. And 17..really wasn’t anything that special. Would she have given up pretty much anything she owned to be back on the ark? Even that was hard to say. Cas wasn’t a daydreamer and the reality was she was here with an opportunity no one had had in centuries. She’d make the most of it. Still..She allowed herself one sentimental moment, hugging the jacket Pops had given her, as the rain came pouring down. Cas laughed long and hard before letting loose a feral scream, one that sounded excited rather than terrified. This..This was their world now! And here they could get wet! When the rain slowed to a slight drizzle the very attractive Bellamy approached her. She only knew him by name because he was something of a leader around these parts at the moment. Although how long that would last..hard to say. Teamwork and structure weren’t really most prisoners’ strength. She grinned seductively up at him after his suggestive remarks. “I don’t need help,” she emphasized. “I’m quite capable,” she added with a evocative grin. “But see..It’s my birthday today and..You know..I think I could use with a bit of play. Think you’re up for it, Mr. Big Shot?” Cas asked, an enticing smirk playing across her lips. Bellamy Blake

Abigail hadn’t been floated. But she’d been damn near close under Pops’ orders. But the chancellor stepped in and saved her life. But now things were extra complicated. Mom had begged Pops not to go through with it. Pops had said no. And now...Mom didn’t want to be anywhere near Pops. There was even talk of her moving out. No one wanted that. So..It was up to Cas to talk to Pops and try to sort this out. She found him in his room, surprise surprise. When he needed to brood that was where he went. Cas hadn’t bothered to knock. She’d waltzed straight in. “For the record, I get why you did it,” Cas said brazenly. “Those rules seem decent enough. No life should be valued that much more than all the rest. And there was a good chance he would have died anyways. To abstain from punishment would have been to condone her actions. Abigail took a gamble. It paid off; but, it was a gamble. And still there are complications with the chancellor. He’s sick and bedridden. I’m sure somewhere Mom gets it. But you know her and Abigail are thick as thieves. Of course she’s going to be upset. But she didn’t die. No one died. I know you can work this out.”Pops looked so troubled that Cas broke her own rule and gave him a quick hug. “Really Pops, it’ll be alright. I don’t think you need to apologize. I’m sure she knows you were trying to do the right thing. You always do. But maybe you can say you were sorry it had to be Abigail but you couldn’t treat her differently just because she was Mom’s friend. Favoritism like that corrupts quickly.”Marcus Kane

Holy shit! Holy shit! Holy shit! She couldn’t think that enough times! What..What in the hell was this?! What was she reading here?! Why in the hell would they do this?! Yeah..People were locked up in juvy for a reason. She didn’t doubt that. But no one was supposed to be executed until they were 18! And this...Was this worse than being floated?! At least then death came quick. But radiation...That could be long and gruesome. Alright..Alright..She had to calm down and think about what to do. Should she confront Mom or Pops? She couldn’t just pretend she hadn’t seen it! These were..people’s lives! Cas might not be a saint. She might not always follow the rules. (In fact, she broke them quite often.) But she wasn’t a murderer. And even when it came to other murderers, she didn’t want to see them dead not if it could be avoided. Making all those people guinea pigs... She supposed the most important question was why now. What had made someone so desperate to concoct this mad plan?! Right..In any case...She shouldn’t stay here. The longer she lingered, the greater the odds were someone would catch her. Cas could think all she wanted back in her room. Right..just...Should she make a copy? Did she really want that sort of information on her person?! But without it, there’d be no proof. Well..Time was tick, tick, ticking away and still she stood there indecisive. Was it good enough to have the copy wired forever in her brain; or, did she want something a little more substantial? The choice was taken from her when the door creaked open. Her heart caught in her throat as she looked up to see none other than Pops. Oh she was royally screwed now! There was no point in playing dumb, not with her location, not with the files laid out on the screen. “Did you know?” she asked softly. “Please dear god tell me you didn’t!”Marcus Kane

The time was drawing near. Cas knew what she was in for even if no one else did. In fact, she was here precisely because she knew. She’d learned something that was supposed to be kept hidden at all costs. All the juvies were being downgraded to guinea pigs for whatever reason. Someone somewhere must be pretty desperate if they were willing to sacrifice all the troubled youth on this fool expedition. Well..For her sake, she certainly hoped it wasn’t as fool an errand as it sounded! But..The radiation..It was still supposed to be toxic enough to kill any human inhabitants! Well, in this case, curiosity just might have killed the cat. She’d dug her grave. Now it was time to lay in it. Complaining would get her nowhere. And it wasn’t like she could really vent even if she wanted to. She was under strict orders to be kept in complete isolation. Couldn’t have her go tipping off any of her fellow inmates. Because at the moment, they were still allowed visitors. Of course...That was going to end very soon. But no one should be the wiser. Should be...Then there was her. That’s why she was locked up alone. Someone came by every now and again to give her food and water. They didn’t talk to her. She’d tried to engage them in conversation. All attempts had ended in bitter failures. They treated her like she was some damn untouchable or something! Yes...Well nothing for it now. She was heading to Earth whether she liked it or not. Attitude was everything. Here, it really was best to keep a positive one. Think of the thrill, the adventure! Don’t think of it as a death sentence. She didn’t know for sure that it was one. She would be the first human to set foot on their homeland in centuries! C’mon! That was pretty damn cool! In the mean time...She was just trying not to lose her mind, being kept in isolation like this. There was nothing she hated more than being caged. She was a free spirit, filled to the brim with wanderlust. Roaming was kind of her thing. And now...Six strides could cover her cell in any direction. Yeah...She was trying to keep busy with exercises and gymnastics. There wasn’t much else she could do. Her ears perked up when she heard the beep of a code being imputed. She doubted this person would talk to her either but... “Pops!” she cried out, both startled and pleased. He was the last person she would have expected to see. Pops was very much a by the books man. And she’d broken the rules, rather horribly to her detriment. Here he was..another human, her father at that (by closeness if not by blood). She was so happy she could actually cry. It was amazing..How much one could come to miss a human voice. She’d been keeping track of the days, marking them on the wall. Maybe it was silly; but, she hadn’t wanted to lose touch with time. She’d been here for 3 weeks and 5 days. All that time in solitary.. Her name...She would have sworn it was the most beautiful sound ever birthed. She just wanted to run to Pops and fling her arms around him. But of course..That just wasn’t her. “What brings you here?” she asked as casually as she was able. But she knew her eyes were too bright. And they burned...But she wouldn’t cry! She wouldn’t! Marcus Kane

Pops entered the room like he owned the place. He didn’t technically but he might as well have for how often he popped by. (No pun intended. Puns were cute and Cas didn’t do cute. In fact...She really hated being called cute.) She stared up at him knowingly the second he strutted inside. Alright..He wasn’t quite strutting this time because he was worried. You could tell a lot from the way a person held themselves and the way they made an entrance. Pops was a confident man not unlike Cas. His gait was tall and proud. Typically. It was still self-assured because Pops was second in command. But something was missing. She couldn’t quite put her finger on it. She was sure if she hauled out the measuring tape his posture would prove to be just as straight and narrow as ever. But...Maybe it was his eyes. Normally there was a fire burning inside. Now..They seemed not quite glazed but duller, tainted with a little sorrow. But he didn’t seem traumatized at least. Whatever he’d come to tell her, it wasn’t the worst news ever. Cas hadn’t quite been up to anything nefarious. This was her home too. There was absolutely nothing wrong with poking and prodding. But then..She’d been putting her noses places Mom expressly told her to keep out of. So when she’d heard someone messing with the code, she scrambled to cover her tracks. Fortunately, she was quick as all getup. Everything was back in place, no file left lingering. And she’d managed to plop herself on the couch before Pops had marched inside. Pops didn’t seem suspicious. He went right for the punch. His voice was gentle, soothing. "Strep throat isn’t the end of the world.” She was more perturbed than she let on. She cared about her mom. She hated the fact she was sick. But strep-throat was hardly the most terrible news in the cosmos. “I’m not a kid,” she said gruffly. “I’m almost 17. I don’t need a babysitter, Pops.”

.:Name:. Cassandra Cartwig .:Nick Name:. Cas .:Affiliation:. Ark .:Age:. 17
| ~ • ~ | Appearance | ~ • ~ |
.:Physical Appearance:. Light copper skin. Brown eyes. Long black hair. .:Height:. 5ft. 6in. .:Portrayed by:. Nicole Hombrebueno
| ~ • ~ | Personality | ~ • ~ |
.:Personality:. Cas has a big heart but most can't see it since she has an even bigger mouth. She's often told she has a bad attitude. That's not exactly wrong; but, those who only see that don't get the real her. She has a chaotic and free spirit; but, she does want to do good. She simply believes the ends justify the means and doesn't like being kept in the dark. Also she has something of a low attention span and can grow restless and bored quickly. That isn't to say she's stupid. She's quite perceptive when it comes to her judgements both of people and her surroundings. But her intelligence can be overlooked in terms of her whimsy and impulsiveness. She's adaptable and so doesn't mind rushing headlong into problematic territory. She does enjoy a good thrill and adventure!
She has an issue with authority since she is very much a girl who prefers to play by her own rules and doesn't feel anyone should be able to decide what's best for her. Cas is a confident girl, very comfortable in her own skin. She's not delusional. She will acknowledge her faults (to herself if not to others). But at the end of the day, she does like who she is. (She hates it when others lecture her on her shortcomings.)
Cas feels that laws should be more guidelines than actual rules. Rule makers can't anticipate everything; and, it's silly to let laws written by long dead men get in the way of the greater good or bare necessities. However, she knows the laws surprising well. Hating to be in the dark, she wants to be well aware of just which toes she is stepping on when she goes on one of her little escapades. .:Special Skills:. stealthy, agile, gymnastics expert (very athletic), good aim
| ~ • ~ | History | ~ • ~ |
.:Birthplace:. The Ark .:Family:. Callie Cartwig (mother), Marcus Kane (father figure) .:Occupation:. student in the ark, hunter and part of Bellamy's militia on the ground .:History:. Cas never got to know her biological father; but, she wasn't sore about it. She had a great mom (although one who got on her case far too often). And she had a father figure she lovingly called Pops to irritate him. (His name was Marcus Kane and he was sleeping with her mother.) She always felt she had a good family life although would never say as much to her parental figures. She was an endless source of trouble with them. Often told she had far too much energy for her own good, she was the sort to take the expression "bouncing off the walls" literally. And no was never a word she came to appreciate. Her parents would try to lecture her and she'd just be doing back flips, somersaults, and cartwheels around them. She would listen to the point that she'd hear their words. But she would rarely agree with them. She thought they were far too fixated on rules.
Her parental figures were reluctant to discuss anything private in Callie's and Cas' living space (and even Marcus' quarters as she had the code). "The walls have ears." And they most certainly did. Cas felt it was her personal duty to drink up any secret she could. She couldn't stand being ignorant about pretty much anything. She might not have been the book type; but, she always thought there were different ways of learning. She was a hands on kind of girl. And yes, she got her hands into everything much to her parents' chagrin. She was the sort where you really did have to worry if it got quiet. Take your eyes off of her for a moment and you might regret it. Although if she wanted to be gone, she would get out. It was a question of when and how not if.
One day Cas bit off more than she could chew. Something big was happening. She didn't know what; but, the tension was palpable. Mom and Pops were acting more stressed out than usual which she personally considered quite a feat. Of course her questions about it had lead her no where. As usual she'd have to go private investigator mode. She uncovered a secret that made everything she'd ever discovered in her entire life look minuscule in comparison. The juvenile prisoners were going to be sent to Earth shortly on what surmounted to a near suicide mission to determine whether or not the planet was habitable. Before Cas could decide what to do with this newfound knowledge, she was caught and the decision was made for her. She was arrested and made a juvenile prisoner herself (not being yet 18). And she was to become part of the group heading to Earth.
Cas wasn't the sort to bemoan her fate. And she could appreciate the fact that she'd dug her own grave here. But that didn't mean she didn't try to resist arrest with everything she had. But of course it wasn't enough. Still, at least she was taken on her own terms, mostly beat up. She was isolated because they couldn't risk her speaking to fellow prisoners who might have visitors and share their fate. Cas was given a smaller space than she was used to, always being one to roam the ship freely. But she made the best of it, keeping up her gymnastic exercises. She tried to mentally steel herself for the journey to come. She was frightened but tried to focus on the thrill. No one had been to Earth in generations! She would be one of the first! Who knew what would await her on the old homeland! Soon she'd be released and get to find out!
