◄ HAVEN'T YOU HEARD WHAT BECOMES OF CURIOUS MINDS? It was a struggle to keep herself from growing more distraught at the thought of Jaha discovering she had killed his son, Wells. As much as Charlotte tried to remain strong, she couldn't forgot about the former Chancellor's presence down here on the ground. Seeing him again would only bring back terrible memories accompanied by nightmares once again. She didn't want to relieve those days whenever she closed her eyes.. but what was she supposed to do? How was she supposed to handle this? The sole parental figures she had were gone, no longer able to offer any possible advice to her. Maybe.. that was the reason why she found herself so attached to Bellamy. Despite being a part of the hundred, she never truly felt a part of it. She was the youngest one out of the group, which often left her singled out for most of the activities going on among them. The first couple of days after their arrival, she spent a majority of it isolating herself until Bellamy had extended a hand towards- offering a small job to do among their camp. That had been the moment things had changed for her. Things had improved significantly for the young girl during that moment. She didn't have to live fearful of every second of her life. No, Charlotte finally had an opportunity to change things around in the long room. Granted, she had done something horrible, but who hadn't at this point? All the hushed words of what went on during their time at Mount Weather hadn't been ignored blindly. She overheard what some of the hundred had done, what they had to do to get them back from the Mountain Men. The news hadn't been pretty in the slightest.
Despite the shakiness clinging to her, there was a steadiness sticking to her as her hand reached out and accepted Bellamy's offered hand. She didn't want to be alone, not during this time. Some company would be nice. Taking a small breath of air, she turned her gaze over to him briefly. "I have.. a room?" Charlotte questioned, disbelief evident in her voice. Considering what she had done awhile back, the last thing the twelve year old expected was to have her own room here. Jaha's presence here had left her thinking that wouldn't be the case. How long would it take until someone told him she was the one that killed his son? Fortunately, Bellamy's voice had snapped her out of her thoughts, forcing her attention to be solely on him. "O-Oh, okay." She muttered softly, nodding her head seconds later. It was a relief to know the talk would be continued later on in the day. As much as she refused to admit it, Charlotte wanted to talk about this. She didn't want to ignore the long pending conversation any longer, not when she was driving herself to exhaustion with the onslaught of terrible memories plaguing her. It was about time that she brought this issue up for once. There was no need to repeat a past mistake once again, not when she had an opportunity to do better this time around. "No, I didn't get a chance." Charlotte answered, shaking her head at his question. Between the rescue and the insisted check-ups, she didn't have much time to pick up something to eat. In her defense, Mount Weather had left her recoiling back into herself- not wanting to think about anything else. "Some food would be nice.." Charlotte admitted, eyes flickering down to the floor briefly. Hesitation flickered on her facial features for a moment as she considered her next words, almost feeling uncertain of speaking them. ".. Jaha won't be there, right?" Charlotte questioned, trying desperately to keep her voice steady and clear of fear. Bellamy Blake

words: tag: @harpermcintyre . notes: ah, I figured it would be a good idea to mention a bit more about her nightmares. |
Fear had gradually become something that Charlotte had grown accustomed to. Even with the freedom that the ground offered, her mind was still heavily occupied with thoughts of her parents and Chancellor Jaha. Her nightmares had a way of burrowing itself in her mind, despite being away from the very place it grew in. Honestly, the twelve year old wasn't certain she'd never grow accustomed to the ground, especially when the threat of Grounders was so high recently. All she wanted was to find something to keep her head far away from her nightmares. Fortunately, that had been the moment an older blonde had approached her. Initially, Charlotte was surprised by the sudden company but she didn't have to the heart to push away the only company she had now. It was extremely rare to get any company nowadays. With that thought in mind, she couldn't prevent the smile that was slowly growing wider. "It's nice to meet you too." Charlotte quickly pipped up, hoping to soothe any rudeness she might have shown.
With the cold weather, it was hard for Charlotte not to bundle up with her jacket, trying to gather as much warmth as she could. Considering they were living on the ground now, she knew she had to learn to adjust to it. While she knew that simple fact, she still had some difficulties actually trying to adjust down here. The weather was one thing she hadn't dealt with beforehand. It only took a quick glance beside her to see Harper was also pulling her jacket closer to her. The cold weather was affecting everyone down here. With the cold breeze passing through, she kept her hands in her pockets as tried to cling to whatever heat she could presently. "It's.. so different from the Ark.." Charlotte trailed off, eyebrows furrowing slightly at the scattered thoughts in her head. At that thought, the twelve year old saw no reason to keep quiet about her curiosity. "Are you getting used to this place..?" She questioned, after mulling over her question.
Any signs of nervousness Charlotte showed in her voice had been caused to her own uncertainty of being down in the ground. Considering she didn't have a lot of people to talk to, the loneliness she felt had been eating her up for awhile now. Maybe it was the fact she was the youngest that made the others uncertain of how to interact with her. Either way she didn't have many people to talk to down her. At the latter of Harper's words, Charlotte's mood seemingly brightened up at the thought. "It's a lot closer to the fire over here." She mused, lips pursued in a brief smile. "-- Warmer too." Then again, that might have been because she was seated close to the fire. Either way, her mind wasn't focused on that. No, she found herself focusing more on the current conversation with Harper.

Despite being given freedom down on the ground, Charlotte couldn’t shake off the fear that clinged to her constantly-- almost shadowing her actions. She couldn’t stop the scene of her parents’ death from replaying in her head, each second constantly being rewinded. However, the weight had been lifted slightly once their days here grew more.. lively. Ironically, the reveal of Grounders had kept everyone peering around the camp and the woods surrounding them. While everyone had gone on to participate in building the fence separating them from the woods, Maybe it had been her age, or something else, but Charlotte had been kept busy with other meager task. Her participation had been very little when it came to the fence. Either way, she wasn’t certain if things were better this way. The visual the fence provided her with wasn’t the greatest one. It made far too simple to remember what was going on beyond the gate. They could be watched at any moment.
With the addition of the fence, the twelve year old found herself closing herself off once more, uncertain of how to go about things. Being the youngest hadn’t given her much opportunities to connect with everyone else. Not when they were a majority of them were her elders by three or more years. That had been her constant dilemma ever since arriving to the ground. It was with that thought in mind that Charlotte had kept herself to a more lonely part of the fire, her food lingering in her hands. Huddling closer to the warmth the fire provided, she took another bite of her food, unaware of who’s attention she had caught. Instead, she had focused on finishing up the remainder of her meal.
For a moment, Charlotte had fallen under the belief the older girl had only sat beside her to take in the warmth the fire provided from the chilly wind. It wasn’t until her curious gaze flickered over to her that she heard her greeting, accompanied with the genuine smile on her lips. While being talked to was a bit surprising, it was hard to prevent the twelve year old from offering a small smile back. “Hi, Harper.” Charlotte greeted, after getting over her initial surprise. Bringing her jacket closer to her, she turned her attention back to Harper. It was nice being able to talk to someone, even if they were older than her. “..--I’m Charlotte.” She spoke up seconds later, tempted to ask more. To find something to make more conversation with. “It’s cold tonight, isn’t it?” Charlotte pipped up, ignoring the lingering nervous tone in her voice.

Being kept in the upper portion of the drop ship wasn’t a guarantee she would be safe. Charlotte didn’t need to remember Murphy’s attempts at getting her hang to be assured of this. If everyone wanted to, there was no way they wouldn’t be able to accomplish the task. She had seen it before, done on Murphy. While the brunet was banished from camp, there was no way to guarantee there weren’t others with his mindset still here. After all, he did have a following when he hunted her down earlier. She didn’t get a chance to see all of their faces, unfortunately. Not that it would help when they outnumbered her.
With everything that Bellamy had done for her, she didn’t want him to put himself in the crossfire any longer. There was no telling when things would be blown out of proportion. And that could happen within the blink of an eye. It was with that thought.. that she couldn’t stand the thought of something occurring to Bellamy. He was someone a lot of people had come to admire in the group, someone who was deemed a leader. Having him protect her like this wasn’t helping him. She was only placing him under a more questionable light in the eyes of everyone. She couldn’t do that to him. Not after all the help he had given her before.
Charlotte’s gaze flickered between Bellamy and the pack in his possession, mulling over the question in her head. Was she being sent away? However, that hadn’t been her main concern. No, it was the harm she might do to everyone else-- specifically Bellamy. He was the one she didn’t want to harm, whether it was indirectly or directly. With Bellamy sitting beside her, it was growing increasingly difficult to ignore him, especially with intense stare along with the comforting hand on her shoulder. The temptation to cry was steadily beginning to rise. “I know but..” She paused, the words stuck in her throat. While the thought was considered, she kept quiet instead only offered a small nod acknowledging his words.Ironically, that silence didn’t last long when the twelve year old heard his next words. Tears were threatening to spill as she tried her best to keep herself calm. “I don’t want you to get hurt... not because of me.” Charlotte spoke up, her voice wavering in volume as she took the food and water with unsteady hands. When it came down to what might happen, she wasn’t prepared to let Bellamy get hurt- not when she had an opportunity to change that. “You don’t have to do this..” Charlotte spoke up, turning her gaze over to him. After losing her parents, she couldn’t stand the thought of losing anyone else. Unsurprisingly, Bellamy’s words had been the push that was needed to make her spill her heart out. The food and water she was given was set aside as she tried to wipe away the tears rolling down her cheeks. " --I'm sorry." Charlotte apologized, her shoulders shaking lightly from the increase of tears. Despite everything, she was still just a child compared to everyone else in camp.Tag: Bellamy Blake

Mount Weather had been a place composed of nightmares for Charlotte. One moment everything was peaceful until news of their group slowly, but steadily, growing smaller every week. The thought hadn’t been concerning at first until she heard what the others were saying. Something was terrible could be happening to those that were missing. It only took a mere moment for panic to quickly spread and engulf the twelve year old’s thoughts. For a small moment, she thought this place could be called a home. It seemed as if every time she tried to call a place home.. things always took a turn for the worst. Granted, she personally had a hand when things had changed drastically in their former home. Wells’s death hadn’t ceased to enter her thoughts, almost rivaling the moment she had watched her parents be floated.
However, peace had come briefly in their rescue from Mount Weather-- they were saved. The moment should have made her feel happy, and yet here she was stuck in a pit of fear and guilt. Things had changed in the camp ever since their return, Clarke’s departure being one of them. Despite admiring the older girl, Charlotte found herself wracked with guilt and fear when she realized who else remained here in Arkadia. Chancellor Jaha. The source behind her nightmares was here in the flesh. Despite the others being around in camp, Charlotte had been quick to keep herself isolated in a small far off corner in the medical bay.
The possibility of seeing Jaha wasn’t something she wanted to risk, especially after what she had done. While Charlotte tried to be a different person, she knew things weren’t as simple as that. Confronting her fears had been one of them, along with the fact she had killed Wells. The pending confrontation wouldn’t be a peaceful one. Her concern now was figuring out if someone had already told Jaha what she had done. While this would have been the simplest solution, she needed to tell him personally what happened. Otherwise, she would continue this cycle of hurt constantly.
With Mount Weather behind them, Charlotte hardly seemed to focus on the small wounds lingering on her. Instead, her attention constantly flickered between her thoughts and the people around her. For a brief moment, she almost failed to see the shadow that Bellamy casted seconds later. Maybe it was the exhaustion or her own thoughts finally slowing her down. It was only when she heard his question that she finally found herself raising her gaze off the floor to glance at him. At the greeting, her lips were pursued in a small, tired smile. “I’m ok--..” Charlotte paused for a moment, eyebrows furrowing slightly at the thought. She couldn’t lie, not to him. “The nightmares they’re back again...” She confessed shakily, practically on the edge of tearing up. Remembering what happened was the last thing she wanted to do right now. Not when her thoughts were plagued by Mount Weather, the lingering effects still there.. waiting to take its' toll on her. Despite having the strength to speak up, she couldn't bear to glance at him, worried about what expression would be shown to her.

Was it bad that Charlotte desperately wanted her nightmares to fade away and forget about Chancellor Jaha and Wells? She didn't want to see them and be constantly reminded of her parents who were floated before her eyes. All she wanted was for this pain to go away already. No memories or constant thoughts about them. If this was an opportunity to erase her pain.. and then why shouldn't she take it? At the thought, she fiddled with the small silicon device with a blue infinity symbol carved into its' base. All it would take was ingesting this and she could be saved from those lingering nightmares. Her eyebrows furrowed slightly at the numerous thoughts crossing her mind. However, it had only lasted for a moment. Wordlessly, she raised the small chip to her lips before forcing herself to swallow it. The pain would fade soon. She didn't have to spend her time consumed by fear any longer.
That had only been days ago, and yet Charlotte's behavior had changed significantly. The fear that clouded her mind was gone only leaving behind a smiling girl in the process. Any thoughts of Chancellor Jaha and Wells had vanished from her mind. Not even her parents' death seemed to fully register in her mind anymore. If she were to think about deeply, she would find out she couldn't remember the small details in their facial features any longer. Their appearance and the affection they showed their daughter had been emptied from her mind. Instead, Charlotte was left feeling content and relaxed now that her fear had been erased from her mind. The price being her memories of her parents and anything, or anyone, associated with them in the slightest way. Perhaps the most concerning thought had been the fact any mentions of nightmares had abruptly come to an end-- forever pushed to the far reaches of her mind.
Charlotte bent down for a moment, picking up some of the smaller equipment from outside. Despite the happiness she felt stirring inside of her, she couldn't shake off her desires to visit some place else. The City of Light-- A.l.i.e had called it. A place where anyone was welcomed. Maybe.. there was a chance she could visit it as well. Her thoughts were interrupted by the sound of Bellamy's voice nearby. Shifting the objects in her hold, she quickly brought them inside the fallen Ark before hurrying outside once more. "Is there anything else I can take care of?" Charlotte questioned as she approached Bellamy, eager to help out. Considering she was the youngest out of the delinquents, there wasn't much she was able to do around camp besides smaller tasks. "I finished moving the other things already." She quickly explained.

Only a few hours had passed since Wells's death and Murphy's banishment.. yet it seemed like it had been several days. She shouldn't have done that. Killing Wells because his dad haunted her dreams had been futile. His blood was on her hands. There was no point in arguing that she was just a child. Charlotte had already accepted the heavy weight on her shoulders-- guilt. She couldn't forget about what she had done. Having someone else get hurt because of her was the last thing she wanted. She needed to find a way to mend what she had done. Charlotte had almost fallen near the cliff earlier, in her attempts to do something to make amends, only to be caught seconds before the thought had fully registered in her head. That small step back, towards the cliff, had alerted the others on what her intentions had been right as the words had left her lips.
And here she was, completely isolated on the upper deck of the drop ship under house arrest. Charlotte had her suspicions it would only be a matter of time before someone would come after her. She overheard the various talks going around camp as they brought back to the drop ship. The excuse of being a child was already chipping away at the morals of some of the hundred. It would only be a matter of time before someone threatened to hurt her for what she had done. Her eyebrows furrowed at the thought as she tucked herself closer to the wall, trying to stick to the shadows that were cast in the room. Considering the scene earlier at the cliff, Charlotte wanted to avoid being spotted at the given moment. The young delinquent was seated on the floor, her back pressed against the wall behind her with her legs drawn to her torso.
With everyone's remarks coming to mind, Charlotte didn't want Bellamy to be hurt in the crossfire. Not when she had come to admire him. The thought of him being hurt because of her was a painful thought to imagine becoming a reality. With the way things were on the ground.. everything could change in a matter of seconds down here. Hopefully, she could find a way to make sure no one else got hurt because of her. The thought was one she couldn't bear to thinking about any longer. Lost in her thoughts, Charlotte had almost ignored the sound of the door opening nearby. It wasn't until she saw the shadow of a figure stepping close that she forced herself to look up and meet Bellamy's gaze. Ever since that impromptu meeting at the cliff with Clarke and Murphy, she hadn't seen him all day. "I don't want anyone to get hurt because of me.." She spoke up, her voice quiet and wracked with guilt. She shouldn't be here, not when it meant putting Bellamy in the line of danger. Ignoring her fear, she forced herself to ask the one question lingering on her mind for the last few hours. "What did everyone else say..? What did they decide to do?" Charlotte questioned, her eyes flickering away from Bellamy. Regardless of what happened, she'd put herself in the way if his safety was threatened.
