Echo had been watching the Sky People for only a short time, but she was already seeing how violent they were. They fought among themselves, and their idea of order was hanging one of their own by a tree--and apparently it was without proof, or waiting for their commander's orders. Weaklings. They'd die off soon enough, but she rather watch them do it sooner rather then later.
Echo walked along the water's edge, looking for the body. The one they had hung had been cut down because a child had killed one of them. When the crazed one turned on the child, the girl had jumped from the cliff. The others that Echo was with went after the male, and Echo went for the child. She would see what she could learn from the body before her people found and claimed it.
When she finally found it floating. With a sigh she stepped into the water and grabbed the coat, to pull the body to the shore--was when she heard the shaken breath. Echo let go of it like it burned her and jumped back int he water! Her face held shock as she looked up to the cliff and back down to the child. How the flying hell did she make that alive?!
Reaching for her again, Echo pulled her from the water, and carried her to the nearest village. There she turned over the child to the healer. It would take 3 days before the girl would open her eyes again, and Echo was in the cabin when she did. Though Echo didn't speak--she wanted to know what the girl would say first. So instead she reached for the water in a bowl and handed it to her.

She didn't know his tone, but she knew his words. They made sense but his tone wasn't one she knew. It was taunting but mocking all in one. Echo wasn't going to give it much thought right now as she was waiting for things to get good. She wanted them to think she couldn't speak their language--she just had to hold out long enough. THEN the tone of the room changed.
He pulled the blade. He pointed it at her. She would have frozen, and began to wonder what he was doing but he backed up. Weakness. She'd had used it on him. Echo grew still, her faced tilted slightly down, while her eyes up and on him. Her breathing slow and measured to make sure it gave no signs of her heart breaking faster at the weapon. "I dare you," She told him, making her tone dark and angry. Each word drawn out slightly, as she spoke slow and clear in her own language. At her next words, her face twisted slightly as disgust, hate, and anger pushed her features together slightly. "Coward." She wanted to use that one in his language--even savored the thought of him standing there bold and prideful and her words pushing him into rage. She almost did it, but Echo had self control and she could wait out the king of the children--king of the sheep. Sheep king.

Really? Talk and then shut up? These people of the sky were fools! No wonder there was so few of them! There was another moan from above, and Echo looked up there for a moment, wondering who they had. Was it someone she knew? Was it one of them that was too weak to live here? "You are not fit to live here. You are weak, and weakness must be killed out---or is that way your people sent you here? To bleed out the weak." She taunted, knowing he did not understand. Her tone this time dark, and promising of blood.
She jerked at bonds, and then looked down at them, before looking back. "Do your worst, because even your worst is but play to my people." She wasn't going to speak his language to him. She didn't want him to know she spoke the old language. She wanted them talking freely around her, so she could learn what they didn't want her to know.

Echo was pulling on the ropes--or whatever they were--until she saw HIM enter. Then she grew still and stared at him--right int he fact at him. She wasn't going to back down from this. You were never the one who blinked first. You never left someone behind if you could fight to save them. death before dishonor. Blood for blood. Life for life. She'd die before showing weakness int he mist of this little bitty children playing at being warriors--they didn't even have order. Her people would have deferred to the leader--these had swarmed and attacked with disorder.
He demanded she talk, and Echo decided to give him what he wanted. "You know nothing!" She told him in the language of her people, before spitting at him. "If you think I will betray my people to a over grown boy who has sheep for an army then you will be the first I kill when I get free from your chair!" Her shoulders moved forward as she spoke, leading in toward him with no fear. She wasn't afraid to try to imitate them from where she was. They had the upper hand, but she was a warrior of the Ice Nation! They were but children playing at being fighters!
Leaning back in the chair she watched him, watching how he moved, and tried to read into it. She could learn a lot by watching people--and if she had to be here she was going to learn a lot.

His had gripped her wrist and pulled the blade closer to his neck and Echo began to wonder if he did want to die, but then he let her go and admitted something else--as if he was almost shamed of it, he looked away. To see her? That made less sense then going to the mountain did. Clearly he didn't need anything or he would have said so before so why come see her? Had she made some impression on him? She hoped not, because she wasn't looking for someone to attach themselves to her. Still, if she had to pick one of the Sky People it would be him--he had been . . . fordable. And she had gone back to watch him a few times.
He had looked away but she reached up to grip his chin and pull it back to look at her. "You found me," She reminded him, not sure why he had came but knew it was not death he needed. "So take what you came looking for." She challenge before leaning down to kiss him, using her own lips to part his own and deepen it. She dropped her blade and fisted both hands in his hair, holding him tightly to her. "Do it," She returned his own words to him between kissing, "See if you can."

His words told her much--and still left her wanting to know more. "You do not have a daughter, Bellamy, I do. Do not let yourself get attached, for there is no use. I have not come to ask for a home--but for aid in leaving quicker. I plan to leave as the sun arrives." So she could cover as much ground as she could. Her people would not think of her coming to this camp, even if they knew who the father was. She had no loyalty here, no connections. They would not look for her here. If they were even looking. She wasn't sure if they were enraged of her lies, or if they were just glade to be rid of her.
She wasn't even sure why she came. Could not recall the thoughts that had prompted her. Echo moved to set Blake down on the table, and the little girl sat up on her own, her chubby hands moving to grasp at the near by coat and play with it while looking around. Echo felt tired, and knew she came here to feel safe before she ran more. "Do you plan to help us?" She needed to know, because he was the only one she could ask this of--and she knew this was the most unfair thing to ask of him.

He was angry with her now, and Echo wondered why. Something clearly had happened before that she had missed. And the phrase 'dumb ass' was really confusing her, even with the context of what he was using it for. Unless it was literally meaning he was dumb and a ass. That she could see right now. He was clearly mad at something besides her and taking it out on her. This was a trait found in both cultures apparently--but not one she would humor.
Echo pushed to stand, and reached behind her to dust off her butt, before walking over toward him in a very casual manner. Her steps where almost lazy, as she was clearly unaffected by his words--only she was. She was annoyed. Pissed. How dare he yell at her for telling him he was making a mistake! She would have let any of his other people go die--or killed them herself to keep the mountain from getting their hands on them.
She put one foot by his hip and casually swung the other around to his other side, before her actions became swift, direct, and angry. She let herself drop to his lap her feet still supporting most her weight but the rest of it on him; while her right hand fisted into his hair and yanked his head back, and her other hand pulled the blade from her boot and put it on his neck. "Speak to me like that again, Sky Person, and the mountain will no long be a worry for you." She pulled the blade back and pointed it at him, "You were the strongest of them, and and I spoke because I hated to see it wasted in the mountain. If you want to die, then I will spare you the trouble of living . . . but if you are done speaking to me like I was one of your idiot children at your camp, then tell me where you go, and I can tell you a better way to get there."

Echo felt herself waking up, which was odd because she didn't recall falling sleep. That would be embarrassing--falling sleep while a hostage. Wait! She was a what? Echo forced her eyes opened and the pain in her head made them close right back before she forced them open once again. Had he hit her? With what?! That had hurt! She tried to move but everything was stiff--no! Damn it! Everything was tired down! Her arms were numb, and she had to pee. This was not going to go well.
Rolling her head around she tired to take in where she was. Same place. Just locked down. Silently she sat there, trying to sort her thoughts. How long had she been sleeping for? Where her people looking for her? No, they wouldn't think she was this weak. Somethings she knew she'd never live down. Echo looked around for him, ignoring the others. Bastard had not even bothered to wait until she woke up! Was she unimportant?! She wished she'd kicked him harder. She begin slowly trying to turn her wrist in the rope. It was tight. At least they seemed to be able to do one thing right.

He knew. She could see it on his face. How could he not? The daughter looked just like him. Same hair. Same eyes. Even her skin was less like Echo's and more like Bellamy's. "Blake." She told him, speaking her daughter's name--one that was also from her father. She had wanted her to be a warrior, to be strong and have honor. She would be of the Ice Nation, and carry the name of the man who had saved them--and created her. Yet none of that was to come to pass because of the blood.
Was it tainted? She didn't think so, but she had believed others were as it was what she had been told from birth. Yet when she looked down at her daughter now, she couldn't think it. Couldn't make herself do as she knew she was supposed to do it. Her hand lifted to the soft hair that was her daughter's head and she lifted it back to show Bellamy her ear. The shape of the ear was there, but there was no opening, only skin. "She cannot hear from this side." She had managed to keep a hood over her head for a while, trying to decide what she should do, yet she knew she could no longer hide it. Others found out, and she left before there was an outrage. She ran. In the middle of the night, taking what she could. She knew they would have come to make demands, and punish her for trying to hide this. She had to leave to make sure her daughter lived. "You are supposed to talk too much." She reminded him, knowing that had been an annoyance of hers at first but then she had liked how she could tell what he was thinking based on it.
The silence was too quite.

Echo frowned at his words for a moment, before she began to understand his tone. The Sky People sometimes said things they thought were funny, and the words meant little to her. Still, it was his tone she reacted too, not the words, so she cracked a half smile, before telling him; "Surprised you are not hiding behind it." She tired to match his tone to reply the same humor in the words. It was something she didn't understand, but Echo was resourceful, and could mimic things well.
Then he spoke of going north, and Echo's smile faded. "I warned you of the mountain before, Sky Person, and yet even knowing it holds nothing but death for you, you go there?" Where else could he be going? The only things North were the Mountain, Ice Nation lands, and . . . . ice. Even if he went past--GOT PASSED--the mountain, then he would end up in her people's land and they did not take kindly to strangers. AND should he someone manage to have become the best warrior there was and got passed her clan there was nothing but ice past that! "I thought you of all the Sky People, were smarter then that." She was disappointed in him. He held promise to be something more then an idiot, but now she doubted it.

The kick didn't phase him as much as she was hoping, but she had almost only done it to piss him off more then trying to escape. Before he could come back at her however, a sound from above her distracted her. It was a moan. Not like the ones she had hear from his tent earlier but one of pain. Someone was hurt. Did they have another one of her people up there? She had not seen anyone injured here or someone brought in. . . . was there a sickness here? Something else?
Echo looked up at the roof with her face of confusion for a moment before she looked down at their leader with an angry one. This was growing tiresome. There was one of his men mouthing off about something to the right of her, and her hands gripped the chair, as she pushed to stand what little she could and quickly bring the leg of the chair down on one his foot. He yelled out with pain, but she refused to look away from the leader, or blink. She was not going to be his victim.

Echo watched as she put the weapon, and her eyes looked over the clothing, seeking out other places a weapon could hide, without making her actions very telling. The Sky Person had said she had no destination. Which meant she had left her people and was not expecting to return to them. For the clans, one did not just leave their people--unless they were a wastelander. It made her wonder what it took for the Sky People to cast out one of their own. Especially after seeing the lengths they would go through to to get their people back.
It was the last words spoken by the Sky Person that got a reaction from Echo. Her eyes jumped back to the girl's face, and narrowed, anger evident in the expression she didn't bother to hide. Echo's fist tightened into balls, but remained at her side. It took effort to not just lash out, but blood would not settle a debt--it would credit a whole new one.
Echo had been too weak to fight, but when the order to leave came and the Sky People had not left she had voiced her protect, only to be pulled away and forced to walk. It had not been hard, she'd been caged for a long time and recently bleed. Her body had been weak when her mind had been strong. She would have stayed. Once she had built strength, her and Tree Nation warrior, Alekay, had parted from the group and gone back to the mountain--only to the horror of the aftermath. Her would not let her mind go there, for the aftermath was too much to think on. The sights had been the worst she'd ever seen.
"Their are many, Sky Person, who would have stayed if they were able. You should mind your words with more care." Because their were some who would seek insult to be called a coward--which was how her words had been taken. "The freed from the mountain know who the debt of honor belongs to, and it is not the commander." It had been the man who unlocked their cages, as he had promised. The commander had taken away their right to give life in return for life.

He had that tone that Sky People sometimes used when their words didn't match their meaning. Still, his words made her blink, as if she had only just realized what she said. Her hear moved no more then a millimeter as she tired to clear her head. Echo had not thought this past supplies. Only now was she starting to let the emotion make her see her errors--and she hated making mistakes. She had only thought about making the trip past, and her people would not lead supplies to her because of her daughter. Now she realized she had only made this harder on herself. She should have done this on her own. "I shouldn't have come here." She told him, looking away from his face for the first time to look at the door.
Had she been thinking clearly she would have never have admitted that to him. Never showed that hesitance or weakness. Would have hated showing it. Yet she was here, and she would not adjust her course--could not. He stepped closer, and she leaded slightly back, too used to protecting her child to even need to think on her actions. Her eyes also moved back to him, almost in surprise that she had even done it. Taking a slow step back she begin to explain, her voice stronger, less of the numb calm and more of the rationalizing warrior she was before.
"Sometimes there are children born within the clans that are of . . . . we call them wastelanders, for they are seen as tainted blood. Or because they bare children of with stains on the bloodlines." Echo didn't look from his face as she explained. "I never had given it much thought to disagreeing with the banishment of these people until now." She had never thought to defend them, or help them. It was how things were done. It was not until it was her daughter that she begin to disagree.
"I have a daughter, Bellamy, and she has such blood. The code of my people demands I cast her out, but I could not. So I am leaving with her. We are going south, to survive the winter, to be in a place were she can be safe." There, that was stronger, and more direct. With each word she felt her mind settling. "I came to ask for your help." With that she reached up to unbuckle her coat, and tossed it to the table hear her. There under it, she wore a faded shirt, and a large bit of cloth held a baby to her. Reaching in she pulled the infant out, and her eyes opened to look up at Echo. Black hair fell over the forehead in large ringlets, and large brown eyes were framed with tanish skin. The child hands came up to grasp a hand full of her mother's shirt, but Echo's eyes were now on Bellamy. "Will you help me?"

The sight of him when he had first entered out had not overly effected her--for she had not allowed her mind to think of what had happened between them before. She had sealed her mind into the lock of what she had to do before winter so tightly that she would let nothing waver her choice. It was not until they entered his room that she wavered--a room deep within their metal home. Not even a window. She hated it on sight. Turning to look up at him, she paused.
It was his eyes. Even in the mountain they had held kindness, and it had given her pause then too. Yet now when she looked at him she saw more then just Bellamy the warrior. It was his eyes--it was her daughter's eyes. The ones that her daughter had gotten from her father. She had been going to tell him of the child, and gather supplies and be gone by morning. She still would hold too her plan, but it was no longer easy to just remain unaffected by her choice to not come back after their nights together.
She had missed him. She missed the fighting, too. But him. They'd not spent long together but she had come to see him as a friend. A respected man. . . A lover. Thankfully he had been a well known name, and it had been easy to hear of his triumphs, and that he was alive.
She'd come here to made a demand of him, but took her a moment of just staring at him before she spoke--her voice still calm and strong but not as cold as it had been in the yard. "I have to leave my people. I am headed south, to where the winters are not so harsh. I have weapons, and I can hunt but your people . . . you do things to your meats to make them last. I need to know what that is, and if you have any to trade."
He would ask her why. She knew he would. Yet even knowing she could not offer up the reason. For all it took was one look into his face for everything to come back to her. Bellamy fought and would die for his people. His siter. And even for her own people. . . . . he would do the same for his child.
