@mikha Always cake. XD Isaiah wasn't sure he had ever really seen a picture of an ear canal but now he was sure he didn't want to, if it sounded as bad as Maya made it sound. But then, maybe he did. A part of him wanted to learn about what Maya was learning about, to get to know her more in that way. That wouldn't be a very logical thing to do, however, all his study time needed to be put into farming. The mechanics of hydroponic farming weren't too difficult to get the hang of but learning about all the different plants they grew, all the ways to look after them, how to plant, to harvest, to protect from pests and viruses that still managed to exist even in a bunker...Isaiah had not been prepared for just how much work would need to be put into study to work in agriculture. Spending any time studying something else for fun or for someone else would be stupid, to put it bluntly.
He could easily encourage her, though. "I'm sure you'll do great, if this is what you love." And even if she didn't particularly like the medical field, Isaiah was sure she would still do well. If there was one thing that he knew about her for sure, it was that she was smart. He liked that about her and it was part of the reason his feeling for her had sparked up. "You're smart." His eyes widened as the words came out of his mouth and he looked down at the pizza. He had not meant to say that out loud. Hopefully she wouldn't think him weird for saying that. There was no way he had intended it, he wasn't even sure what he was intending to do with her but he just knew that he held none of the confidence to actually let her know his feelings. A compliment like that shouldn't be a big deal anyway, he decided. It would be fine.
He looked up at her again when she answered his question about the pizza, a little too much relief at hearing the words. His worry about whether she was expecting someone else fading even though he now held more worry about her reading too much into a tiny compliment he had given her. Isaiah wasn't quite sure if he knew how to not worry. When Maya handed him a fork, he just took it without question and watched as she pushed the slice of cake - he hadn't even noticed it before, too interested in the pizza and, well, Maya - into the centre of the table. He gave a light laugh at her comment and followed that with a shrug as he lifted his fork towards the cake. "I have a feeling one of the chefs really likes baking cakes," he joked before slicing his fork into the cake to eat some. "Not that anyone would ever complain about that," he added. He loved cake and he didn't think he'd ever heard of a person not loving it. |

THE FIRST OF THE STARTERS!!! Isaiah, like everyone in Mount Weather, knew about the new arrivals to their small community. News that that spread quickly and with the way that they had causally joined them in meals, they obviously weren't meant to be in hiding from everyone else. So everyone knew of their existence but Isaiah held questions about more than just them being here, he wanted to know why and he wanted to know who they were. It was a him thing, really. He liked to know the details and to have all the pieces to put together a picture. He hated being given vague answers about anything and would put all his energy into finding those missing facts. If he weren't so dedicated to farming and so against violence he may have made a good guard for that reason. Even in the smallness of Mount Weather, mysteries still occurred.
As no one was answering his questions as to who these new people were, Isaiah decided he would find answers himself. It wouldn't be the first time that he had done such a thing and he had yet to get into any trouble from his investigations so he saw no reason not to continue doing them. Earlier in the day he had followed one of the new people, from a distance, back to where they were staying. That gave him an opportunity to corner one of them in an environment where they might be more willing to talk. Isaiah doubted he would get much out of them when they were at meals, since all the other residents of Mount Weather would be there and he could imagine they wouldn't be completely trustworthy of everyone yet. That part might make his investigation a little more difficult but he was hoping he might be able to gain the trust of one of them.
Specifically, Isaiah was thinking about the girl who barged into the mess hall and caused a riot. He didn't know why he had decided she might be a good person to talk to but it would at least be more fun to talk to her. Maybe it was just that she was less happy and Isaiah found himself more confident approaching people who were unhappy. It could have simply been that. He walked into the dorm room during the afternoon, finding it alive with people and chatter. Part of him froze up at that, unsure of whether he would even make it through the room to where he could see the blonde haired girl without someone questioning him. He took in a deep breath, letting his eyes shut for a second before he continued on into the room and over the girl he wished to talk to. "Hi, I'm Isaiah. I was wondering if I could talk to you." |

Isaiah is a worrying little idiot.
It didn't take long for Isaiah to finish a piece of pizza, chewing as Maya did and then as she spoke. It was good pizza. He also found himself paying attention to the tastes of some of the vegetables, like the onion, and thinking how he had helped to harvest the onions the week before as part of the training he had been completing. Harvesting had seemed like a simple task to Isaiah until he had been told to start checking the vegetables for any flaws or deformities that could have made them bad for eating. He did wonder what they did with vegetables that couldn't be eaten but he hadn't been bothered to ask. Remembering where he was, Isaiah blinked and got out of his head. His training with the farmers was definitely the thing that took up the most space in Isaiah's head. But Maya. He was with her and he needed to keep his attention focused on her. She deserved his undivided attention, that was for sure.
Going back over her words in his head, he spoke. "Yeah, it is. Otherwise school becomes the only thing we think about." He chuckled. Glancing down at the pizza, still almost whole, Isaiah suddenly wondered if she was expecting someone else to come sit with her. Why else would she have had so much food with her? In his want to talk to her because of the silly crush he had for her, he hadn't even thought about something like that. She had asked him to join her but still... Isaiah's smile faded from his face and he kept his eyes on the pizza. "Were you, ah, expecting someone else?" he asked, gesturing at the pizza. "That's a lot of food for one person." After saying that, Isaiah wondered if it was even the polite thing to say. Sometimes he really didn't know and he guessed it didn't matter too much. As much as he seemed to have feelings towards Maya, he doubted that she would have anything similar towards him. They were friends, after all. |

@mikha It was hard for Isaiah not to look at Maya, to let his eyes graze over every part of her. The dress she was wearing had to be the most beautiful dress he had ever seen, only more so because it was on her. It was obvious that Maya had put effort into her appearance for the night just as Isaiah had. The dress, the hair...even her skin seemed to glow somewhat brighter than it normally did. That could have been the lights, though. Her hair was up rather than down as it usually was. That part was the part that Isaiah was the least happy about. He loved Maya's hair, as much as he had sometimes heard bad words said of it. But as much as Isaiah wanted to look at her, once he was standing near her he made sure to keep his eyes on her face. That was polite, at least that was what he had been taught to be polite, and he didn't want to be anything but.
There was relief to the fact that Maya was smiling upon his greeting and Isaiah let himself relax into a smile as she spoke. Thankfully, he noticed her gesture for him to sit and he turned to pull out a chair from the table. He could almost feel his stomach jump at the sight of the pizza, realising how hungry he was. Knowing that there would be food at the party, Isaiah had skipped dinner. Part of him wondered if he would have been so willing to sit with her if the pizza hadn't been there. He was sure he would have been. Once he was sitting, he focused his attention back on Maya. Momentarily he was distracted by the smile on her face and the way her eyes lit up with sincerity. He loved to take notice of things like that. "I'm feeling great now," he answered her, honesty to his words as often was the case. "A bit hungry though," he added. At that he grinned and picked up a piece of pizza. "And how are you?" |

So I just took to assuming that things would be very organised and that farmers would be assigned to different sections so that all the work got done in an orderly manner. In no way had Isaiah meant to be rude when questioning whether he had Bellamy's name correct. He just hadn't wanted to assume that he had it correct, he'd thought that would be the politest way to go about it. At Bellamy's reply, questioning whether it was a problem who he was, Isaiah felt his eyes widen slightly and add to the stress he was already feeling over this interview. In a normal situation, Isaiah would have taken notice of the fact that Bellamy was smirking and heard the teasing tone to his voice but this wasn't a normal situation. In stress, Isaiah became what his mother just tended to call a little blind. It had been cute, apparently, when he was a kid but now it just caused him trouble. "Not at all," Isaiah quickly confirmed to Bellamy, attempting a smile to accompany the words.
Bellamy moved back onto the topic of the investigation. Isaiah was relieved about that. He simply nodded along with Bellamy's words, confirming that what the guard was saying was correct. It was true that Isaiah knew the basics of what had happened, all the farmers did. Big news such as that spread around farming circles quicker than viruses could spread through a whole planter box of produce. Isaiah was also a bit relieved to hear that Bellamy wouldn't need to speak to him for too long, as much as he wasn't going to let that part show. It wasn't that he had any sort of problem talking with Bellamy, it was the situation. In any other circumstance Isaiah would have likely been excited about Bellamy talking to him. The case and the missing produce just left Isaiah in a state of high stress.
It was true that Isaiah was a little surprised by the first of Bellamy's questions, not completely sure why he'd want to hear from Isaiah what he did in his job when he already knew. But he would still answer it. Isaiah had nothing to hide. "I'm part of the team who look after the root vegetables - the carrots, onions, and beets, for example." He paused, turning out towards the white planter boxes lined up in neat rows. "They're all grown in this room, particularly over to the left section. My team is responsible for planting, tending, and harvesting those vegetables. But my job also can include helping out in any other sections if help is needed. I was helping pick fruit the other week." A bit of a smile now on his face, Isaiah turned completely back to Bellamy. Talking about his job - as pointless as the question seemed to him - wasn't stressful. It was the following questions that likely would be. |

When Bellamy said Isaiah's name, his heart sped up and it wasn't in a good way. It was a great start to the interview, he thought, feeling nervous already. His heart beat would probably help lead to other nervous behaviours and cause him to act like he was actually guilty when he wasn't. This was probably part of the reason why Isaiah had been so drawn to an occupation such as farming, he didn't have to deal with people in such a stressful way as this. The only people he dealt with in his day to day workings as a farmer were the other farmers and the cooks that would use the produce to cook food. They weren't stressful to deal with most of the time and it made things a lot easier for Isaiah. He didn't do well under pressure and that was obvious to everyone around him when situations like this came about.
There was some relief when Bellamy asked whether Isaiah would prefer to be interviewed there or in another room. It gave him choice about his surroundings and it was a surprisingly kind gesture from a guard who was obviously trying to work out if any of the farmers were guilty. Isaiah had enough of a brain to know that was why they were all being interviewed separately. "You're Bellamy Blake?" Isaiah asked. He knew the answer to the question but found it too intimidating to do anything but ask for confirmation of that fact. He glanced around the room, seeing the plants and feeling his normal sense of calm from the familiarity of them. It was obvious to Isaiah that he wouldn't feel more comfortable in any room other than the one they were currently in. "Here is fine," he said, a small nod following the words as his gaze fixed back on Bellamy. |

@mikha A little rambling but it's still a post. Yay for the first canon pre-s1 MW thread! The wardrobe doors sat open as Isaiah stared at the three button up shirts he owned. It was stupid, he knew, to have been standing there for as long as he did with not a clue on what to wear. It wasn't like him at all. Still, he stood there, his eyes moving from one shirt to another as the decision overwhelmed him. It was a new situation, he had to admit and that was what left him as lost and indecisive as he was. He took in a deep breath, letting his eyes shut for a moment. It was just a party. While Isaiah was not the biggest fan of parties, while he tended to prefer quieter events, it definitely wouldn't be the first one he had been dragged to. The only difference in this situation was that he had made the decision himself to go. And he was going for a girl. There was also that.
So that was why his decision was so difficult, and he hated admitting that to himself. It felt so out of character for Isaiah. He was calm, he was collected, and his main interests were in his studies and in his friends. A girl had not been part of the plan. But still, he knew his parents at least would be happy, as would his friends. Everyone but him seemed to have an interest in making sure he dated. It was utterly stupid, to think that everyone else was so interested his own life like that but Isaiah was usually good at brushing that off. Now it was just sad that they could get what they wanted, if the girl he was interested in held any interest towards him.
Opening his eyes again, Isaiah picked one shirt, the one that looked the least worn and slid his arms into the sleeves. As he buttoned up the shirt he walked over to the desk in his room, picking up his belt to put on once his shirt was tucked in. It was just a party. That was what he kept telling himself, using the words as an attempt to calm his anxieties. Once dressed, Isaiah walked out of his small bedroom and managed to get out of the apartment without running into his parents. He knew he was dressed nicer than normal. He knew they would ask questions. He walked with a brisk pace towards the mess hall, where he had been told the party would be. A weird enough place that it seemed "cool" yet still public enough that it could be monitored by the adults. Like everything in the mountain was.
When Isaiah arrived at the mess hall he automatically looked around the room in search of familiar faces. He saw one of his friends sitting at a table, laughing with some unfamiliar people. It wasn't difficult to make a decision not to go over to that table. So he continued looking, not needing to look for long before he found Maya. She looked beautiful, but then she always did. Isaiah couldn't remember a time when he had thought of her as anything but. It took him a moment to get the confidence to walk over to her. Again, he found that stupid. Not being nervous about talking to a person but being nervous about talking to her. She wasn't a stranger and he had talked to her before with no issue. His heart was even beating in his chest faster than it should have been. Reminding himself of the fact he didn't need to listen to his anxieties, he got up the confidence to walk over to her. "Hi Maya." |

FIRST POST WITH IAH!
Aaaand hopefully the beginning of Belliah!
Isaiah sat against a wall in agriculture, looking out at the rows and rows of food that were always growing. This was where he always felt his calmest. He knew there was nothing wrong with any of the plants, that the harvest would be on schedule and that there was nothing left for him to do that day. It was true that Isaiah loved his work but he also loved when the work was over. It was difficult for him to imagine a better time than one spent sitting around the plants, relaxing in the section that must have held the freshest air in the whole mountain. It was glorious to him. The moment would have only been made better if Isaiah wasn't waiting for his turn to be interviewed by a guard about the stolen food. The last person before him had been taken a few minutes before, so he was sitting alone in wait rather than in an attempt to relax. Although he had specifically chosen to sit where he was to try and stay as calm about the situation as he could.
There was only one thing Isaiah knew about the stolen food and that was that he hadn't been the one to steal it. It was the third time it had happened now, in the period of a month. The first two times had been a lot different to this third, smaller amounts of food and a lack of investigation into why it had happened. Isaiah had taken to assume that one of the farmers had been particularly hungry one day, or that some teenagers had gotten into the marijuana plants and gotten the munchies. That could have been a good explanation for the first two times, due to the smaller amounts of food that had been stolen and the fact that it had been localised to one small area in agriculture. This time it had been completely different and the guard had been called in to investigate. This investigation included interviews with all the farmers in a separate way. Isaiah had to admit, as much as he hadn't done anything, he felt nervous about the interview.
When the sound of footsteps echoed in the room, Isaiah stood up, brushing any dust from his pants before turning towards the door. The guard that had entered the room was the same one that Isaiah remembered coming in to collect the other farmers and Isaiah wondered what to think of him. Of course he knew who the guard was, everyone did. Bellamy was known well throughout Mount Weather as being the only one who could go outside without the safety of a bio-suit. There were many stories and rumors that went around about him and Isaiah had heard them all from his friends. Isaiah didn't know what to think about the rumors, he didn't tend to take them as truth and usually let them slip in one ear and run out the other. He liked to know the truth about people and the famous Bellamy was no exception to that. There was a doubt to Isaiah's mind that he would learn anything about him during the interview, however, as Bellamy would be the one asking the questions. |

| ~ • ~ | Character Basics | ~ • ~ |
.:Name:. Isaiah Riggs .:Nick Name:. I, Iah .:Affiliation:. Mount Weather .:Age:. 21
| ~ • ~ | Appearance | ~ • ~ |
.:Physical Appearance:. Isaiah is both tall and lean, towering over most people he knows with a height over six feet. He has thick black hair, often shaved to a short length so that it is easy to keep, and brown eyes. His height stands out more with a long neck and a round shaped face. Often Isaiah is seen wearing simple clothes of button-up shirts and plain coloured jeans or slacks. Like all the clothes worn by those in Mount Weather, his clothes often look slightly tattered and well-worn due to their age.
.:Height:. 6'2 .:Portrayed by:. Alfred Enoch
| ~ • ~ | Personality | ~ • ~ |
.:Personality:. Isaiah is often described as being quiet, skilled and dedicated. Those words sum him up quite well, at least when it comes to his work. His passion and main interests lie in farming and he is even often found sleeping in Agriculture. He holds a passion for growing the best food and has the knowledge to do so. Saying this, sometime Isaiah is known to get too into his work, forgetting that other things do exist. In complete irony, Iah is also known to forget to eat when caught up in harvesting. This passion he holds for his work is a good way for him to keep himself away from others and still be well thought of as a needed person in Mount Weather.
While Iah tended to avoid a lot of life when he was a younger child and teenager, he now enjoys the simple things of life, like quiet dinners with friends. Around friends he can be seen as his most energetic, a goofy smile on his face and a simple sense of humor that finds jokes the most innocent of things. While around strangers he is more likely to keep his head down, playing with the chain around his neck and generally not feeling comfortable. Saying all this, Iah will always prefer to be around his work and could be quoted in saying he prefers the company of plants to people. .:Special Skills:. Agriculture, high reading level/vocabulary/technical language knowledge basically he'd be shit in a fight
| ~ • ~ | History | ~ • ~ |
.:Birthplace:. Mount Weather .:Family:. Ivan Riggs (father), Ruby Riggs (mother) .:Occupation:. Farmer
.:History:. Isaiah was born in Mount Weather, an only child to his parents Ivan and Ruby. In terms of his upbringing, there was nothing particularly dramatic that happened to him. He had loving parents and a relatively normal childhood in Mount Weather. He attended school, found what he was interested in and pursued that into a job.
From a young age Isaiah found that he preferred to be on his own and only enjoyed the company of others when accompanied by other activities like school or games. Never bothered or feeling it were something odd, Iah spent a lot of time on his own reading any books he could get his hands on and as a child discovered he was interested in the hydroponic farming that was used to grow food in the mountain. Even as a child he found ways to sneak into Agriculture, watching the plants and trying to watch the farmers to learn what they did for their job. He was known for this and it got to a point where the farmers didn't bother to take him back home but instead let him watch and even began to teach him.
As Isaiah grew older, his passion didn't fade and he found himself studying hard to become a farmer like those he now looked up to. His teenage life was one where he learned to become more balanced in his life, having a friend in which he spent some of his time with. Even if it were obvious what came first in his life. Through the encouragement of his friend, along with his studies, Iah began to participate in life in Mount Weather, finding himself learning to enjoy things that he hadn't thought of being apart of before, even the simplicity of sharing meals with people who weren't his parents.
After completing his studies at school, he was enlisted to work in agriculture and fit quickly into the tight-nit group of farmers that provide for Mount Weather.
(He has quite a boring history, to be honest.)
