"Hm, it is obvious that you don't have much experience in the dead zone" Emori admitted, unable to hide the smile that appeared on her face at the boys hostility. He accepted the water that she offered him though and that told her that maybe he was willing to trust her. Taking the pouch back when he offered it to her, she clipped it back to her belt.
"I've seen quite a few people out here" she told him when he asked her if she'd seen his brother, "what does your brother look like?" she couldn't remember exactly what every single person she'd robbed looked like, but if he described him to her then maybe it would jog her memory. He'd said that his brother was gone, but he hadn't said why he'd gone, had he been taken or had he left willingly "if he's out here then maybe he doesn't want to be found?" she suggested, looking away from the boy momentarily when she saw him beginning to look around, she figured that if she just allowed him to wander through the desert alone then he'd probably end up dead.

"You don't look like somebody who knows what they're doing" Emori observed and usually she would've kept walking if she saw somebody struggling in the desert or she would've robbed them blind, but this boy didn't look like he had anything worth taking and he looked like he was a little younger than her brother, she knew that if anyone found him in a similar situation then she'd want them to stop and help.
Emori raised an eyebrow at his question "I'm more than capable of looking after myself" she said as she glared at him, if he wasn't careful then he'd learn just how capable she was. "If you've failed to notice, you're also out here alone" she reached up tug down the material that hid the majority of her face from view "I spend a lot of time out here... But it's clear that you don't" unhooking the pouch of water that was clipped to her waist by her belt, she offered it to him "you're not gonna last the day out here" in the desert the days were long and the nights short and the boy was not wearing anything that would protect him from the heat "so I'm going to ask you the same question, what are you doing out here alone in the desert?" Emori found it easier than some to walk through the desert and to brave the blistering heat from the sun that beat down upon her, because for the majority of her life she'd lived and worked in the desert, venturing occasionally back to forested areas that offered more cover so that she could rest and stock up on water from the rivers. She was dressed appropriately for the desert, with her face and head covered to offer protection from the sun and the sand that blew up into her face. On one of her hands she wore a large glove and she had a knife that rested on her hip. She was travelling alone this time, she often split up with her brother after they'd agreed on a place to meet in a couple of days and so it wasn't unusual to find her without him at her side.
She spotted movement up ahead and raised a hand to shield her eyes from the sun so that she could get a better look. It appeared to be a young boy, struggling to walk in the sand and from a glance Emori noticed that he wasn't wearing the proper gear to spend a prolonged amount of time in the desert. Picking up her pace, Emori quickly managed to close the distance between the boy who obviously didn't know how to walk properly in the sandy terrain "I'd say you were stupid, but that doesn't seem a strong enough word" she called to him when she was close enough to him. She wondered if it was his first time in the desert, but by the look of him she could probably guess the answer.

Three days. It had been three days since Emori and John had left Otan and Jaha after attempting to steal the backpack that was obviously so much more than a backpack. Emori didn’t know why they’d been so eager to recover it once it had been stolen; it was obviously a valuable piece of equipment, something that would have been able to sustain herself and Otan for quite a while if they’d sold it to the right customers. Which was why she was so confused by her brothers actions, never in her whole life had he threatened her and then out of nowhere he’d tried to take the backpack and held a knife to her throat. It wasn’t like him, John had tried to explain some of what he knew to her but she still found it confusing, she didn’t understand how somebody could control someone else like the way they had her brother. She still had every intention of finding him again; she’d pick up their trail eventually and get her brother back. They’d docked the boat somewhere safe, in a place that she was sure it wouldn’t be found and stolen. Being on the boat was cool, it was a great way to travel and whilst on the water it was rare to come across anyone who might ask questions but once her feet hit solid ground again she felt truly comfortable. They’d been moving around the forest, never staying in one place for too long. Emori had introduced John to one of the many ways that herself and Otan scavenged for supplies. It wasn’t dissimilar to the way that she’d stolen from him when they’d first met. They killed a rabbit and smeared the blood over John’s face and neck to make him appear dead and in theory whoever came across the body in the middle of the road would be lured towards it, either to investigate further or to take possessions from the body. Somebody who is dead is no longer in need of anything they possess and many people had been known to steal from the dead. When their victim was in position, Emori would emerge silently from her hiding place and hold a knife to their throat, they’d then knock them out and proceed with stealing from them, taking anything that held any value or that they thought could be useful.
Not everyone was cut out for a life on the road; many people preferred the comfort and security of living in a village. Emori didn’t exactly have that option; her hand prevented her from being accepted by anyone. She was pleased to discover that John seemed to be faring relatively well with the lifestyle that she’d introduced him to and he was one of the few people who accepted her and weren’t repulsed by the hand that she kept covered most of the time. Right now she was carefully skinning the rabbit that they’d caught earlier that day, they didn’t have any way to preserve the meat when they were moving around so often so it was best to prepare the meat before it spoiled, the fur also had its uses but Emori wasn’t as concerned for the warmth that it could provide at that moment, the weather was good and they were more concerned with finding food at the moment than anything else. She didn’t really know what their next move was going to be, they’d been moving around the same area for a while now, she wanted to go find her brother when John was ready but he didn’t seem as eager about that idea as she was.

Everything had gone according to plan, Emori hadn't expected the group of travellers to stop and listen to her so willingly but they were obviously more trusting than most other wastelanders and the weapons that they carried gave her a clue as to why this was. The guns that they carried and the fact that they only seemed to speak English pointed towards the fact that they were Skaikru, Emori had never seen one of the sky people up close but where they were from didn't exactly make a difference to her, the fact that they were Skaikru only seemed to increase the chances of them carrying tech anyway. They had foolishly believed her sob story about the wastelanders that had murdered her brother and taken her supplies, they'd even offered her a drink of water, yes they were far too trusting of a girl they'd only just met. She'd successfully persuaded them to pull her cart and in exchange for their services she would take them to the city of light. Of course she had no intention of carrying out her side of the bargain.
From then on it was easy to lead them to where Otan was waiting, the moment he appeared on the back of that horse she'd made her move. With a knife against John's throat the Skaikru travellers had no other choice but to put their weapons and supplies into the cart. After she'd knocked her hostage out it was easy to hook the cart up to their horse and prepare to leave, the sky people would probably die without their supplies but that wasn't her problem. Her only goal was to keep herself and her brother alive and to do that they had to scavenge supplies from weary travellers, these people weren't the first and they wouldn't be the last either. Taking Otan's hand, her brother helped her up onto the saddle behind him and they were just about to leave when a voice caught her attention 'Emori! Let me go with you'.Placing a hand on her brothers shoulder, she looked towards the source and immediately spotted the girl who was calling for her. She hadn't noticed her absence from the group and she immediately cussed herself for not noticing that she was missing. She hadn't even picked up on this girls name and she expected her to take her with them, clearly these sky people weren't as smart as everyone thought them to be. Smirking at the girls request she called back to her "Why do you think we'd be interested in taking you with us?" she eyed the gun that the girl held warily but didn't pay the weapon too much attention, if she wanted to go with them then she would not attempt to kill one of them. Emori wondered if this girl had any worth, what had she to offer them, she certainly wasn't interested in dragging around a girl who would do nothing but weigh them down and slow their progress.

.:Name:. Emori .:Nick Name:. None .:Affiliation:. Nomadic Grounder .:Age:. 20
| ~ • ~ | Appearance | ~ • ~ |
.:Physical Appearance:. Emori has tanned skin and wears ragged pale clothing that is torn in places and a headscarf. She has a tattoo on her face and has dark brown hair which is usually loose with a collection of small braids like most grounders underneath her headscarf. On one side of her face she had a narrow curving scar beneath her eye. Whilst she is in the dead zone she often keeps her face covered and on one hand she wears a glove to disguise her large mutated hand, preferring to hide it rather than attract the unwelcome attention of others who might only view her as a stain on the bloodline that needs to be erased. .:Height:. 5'5 .:Portrayed by:. Luisa D'Oliveira
| ~ • ~ | Personality | ~ • ~ |
.:Personality:. Emori is understandably distrustful of people when she first meets them as she has had to live a hard life, avoiding anybody who might pose a threat to her family. She is also an intelligent young woman who uses her intelligence to trick unsuspecting travellers and to lure them into a trap so that she and her brother can rob them of their possessions. She is a feisty individual and doesn't like to be controlled. Emori has a more caring side to her and she cares deeply for her brother as he is the only family that she has left. .:Special Skills:. Emori never got the chance to experience clan life and because of this she had to rely on her parents to teach her everything she knows. She is handy with a knife and relies more on her intelligence than brute strength. She uses her size as an advantage as she is quite small and doesn't immediately look like much of a threat.
| ~ • ~ | History | ~ • ~ |
.:Birthplace:. Tondc .:Family:. Otan (brother, 17) .:Occupation:. Thief, particularly interested in stealing technology for various sources. .:History:. Emori was born in Tondc to two loving parents, but she was never meant to be born. It was evident from the moment her mother saw her that she was different, she looked like a perfectly normal baby girl. That is until you took a closer look at her left hand, it was deformed and as soon as other people started to notice this abnormality, they began to make demands. They wanted her gone, she was a stain on the bloodline, something that needed to be erased, destroyed so that it could do no damage. However her parents could not bring themselves to abandon their child to die. They left the village before things could escalate out of control.
It wasn't easy for Emori's parents to raise a young child without the protection of a clan and the struggle only got harder once Otan came along. They'd convinced themselves that when the child arrived that they could find a way to get it accepted into the clan, they still had family in the village, friends who might take the baby if it was asked of them. However they hadn't expected for their second child to have a mutation as well, they were horrified when their little boy arrived and he was damaged just like their daughter, they knew that he would never be accepted anywhere, both their children would be shunned by all they met.
Emori and her family spent most of their time travelling, never spending too much time in one place, it wasn't safe for them to stay in one area for too long. They made their life by stealing from other nomads and merchants. At first, her parents had no desire to venture anywhere near the dead zone, there were stories of a place past the dead zone... A city of light, it was meant to be safe there, many nomads were searching for this place. However they knew that their children were too young to survive such a long journey in such harsh conditions.
When Emori was fifteen her parents finally made the decision to travel into the dead zone. Both Emori and Otan were old enough to stand a good chance at surviving the journey. There would be less people around, less people who could discover the deformities that their offspring had. However, things went bad after a spending a couple of months in that wasteland. Wastelanders were desperate people and desperate people were dangerous. They found that out the hard way one night when a group of wastelanders attacked their camp, their parents tried to fight them off but it was futile. Emori saw her parents fall and she dragged her brother off into the night. They were alone now without their parents to protect them.
The siblings resorted to a life of crime again, stealing from people just so that they could survive. They didn't need their parents anymore, they relied on each other to survive and together they found the city of light. They started scavenging and stealing technology to sell to others who might want it, they learnt that this was easier than taking the risk to steal from other wastelanders, they didn't need to come into contact with other people as often and that's how they liked it, they'd spent their lives alone, outcasts in the world and that was never going to change. They didn't need it to change.
