A young girl paced outside a tent with a boy who couldn’t be more than a couple of years older than her, their dark hair and facial features hinted that they were related in some way. Maybe siblings, it was more than possible. This girl couldn’t be more than eight years old, she was dressed in ragged clothing made of various cloths and furs. Her face was smeared with black face paint; perhaps as she tried to master the art of looking like a true warrior, at first glance the child would not appear threatening in any way, in fact some might think to take advantage of her weak appearance and maybe rob her of her things if she was found alone in the forest. However, appearances can be deceiving. Seren, as she is called was already receiving training from her mentor, she was the warrior Arwen’s second and had already picked up the basics for wielding a sword. However, this was not a time for training, the child and her brother had much more pressing matters to deal with. For months now they had been waiting, waiting patiently for their mother to deliver a baby into the world. A baby that would be their brother or sister, but hours had passed and still they had not heard the sound of a baby cry. Of course their father had sent for the healer, but he’d been inside the tent for some time now and it didn’t sound like he was making much progress with their mother. Seren let out a whimper as she heard her mother cry out from within the tent, there had been a lot of shouting from their mother and it was doing nothing to ease the girls nerves. It sounded as if her mother was in a great deal of pain. Their father had said that they might hear things, crying, yelling… But he’d always said that in the end they would have a baby sibling and that it wouldn’t be long. But it was long, far too long for Seren’s liking. “Stop that” Seren heard a shout and she turned to see the boy looking at her, glaring at her, his hands clenched into fists at his sides. “You have to be strong Seren, you’re a warrior! Don’t act like a child!”
“I’m scared Lukas!” Seren exclaimed, tears welling up in her eyes and her lip wobbled as she fought the urge to cry, she wasn’t scared, she was terrified. Many women had birthed babies in the village in that year alone and all of them had come faster than this.
She was pulled into a hug by her brother “don’t be scared Seren, mother will be fine… It’ll all be over soon” he whispered to her. She had no idea who he was trying to reassure, her or himself. She’d never seen her brother behave in this way, the people in her clan didn’t often show such open displays of affection and Lukas was one of the strong ones, he’d always been eager to prove to their father that he was stronger than the other seconds, that he had what it took to be a great warrior. Seren couldn’t remember the last time that he had held her like that and she knew immediately from the tone of his voice that everything wasn’t going to be ‘okay’.
Suddenly a baby’s cry disrupted them, shattering the silence that had settled over the village. Immediately and simultaneously both children ran into the tent, the crying didn’t quieten, it was a strong baby, the weak ones didn’t cry. As they entered the tent it immediately became apparent that something was very wrong. The healer held their new baby brother or sister in his arms and wore a grim expression on his face. Their father knelt at their mothers’ bedside, sobs wracking his body. Seren had never seen her father cry, he was always so composed, and he barely showed her or her brother any affection apart from occasionally ruffling their hair or giving them a brief pat on the shoulder. It was then that Seren noticed the blood that stained the fur on the bed, so much blood… Too much…
“Mother?” the word left her mouth before she could stop it and all eyes flew to her, the look of thunder on her father’s face was enough to make her quiver, but she wasn’t sure if it was in fear or this other emotion. An emotion she’d never felt before, it hurt her chest, made her feel like it was impossible to breathe, made her hands shake so badly that she thought it would be impossible for her to pick something up, let alone hold it steady in her hand.
“Lukas! Get your sister out of her! NOW!” her father growled, the pain was evident in his voice, tears trailed down his face and his eyes were red and puffy. Feeling arms around her waist, Seren snapped out of her stupor and began to struggle in her brothers arms.
“No! Mother! No!” she cried and the tears finally spilled out from her eyes, leaking down the side of her face and smudging her face paint. She wasn’t strong enough to fight back, her brother had three years of experience over her and so he easily managed to drag her out of the tent and away from their parents. Seren had seen death before, it wasn’t new to her, she had not yet made her first kill, but she’d seen people from her village accused of treason and tied to the tree. Death by a thousand cuts was capital punishment in her clan and she was used to seeing traitors pay with their lives. But her mother hadn’t looked like any of those people whom she’d seen die. It just looked like she was sleeping, a thin layer of sweat lay upon her brow and she looked pale, too pale to be her mother, her mother usually had a rosy hue to her cheeks and a smile on her face.
Her breath came out in gasps as her sobs stopped her from being able to breathe properly and then somebody was shaking her “Seren! Seren, it’s okay! Stop it!” it was Lukas and he sounded genuinely concerned for her. Maybe it was because he had never seen somebody crying in the way that she was crying. It was not common for somebody in their clan to lose control like this and completely break down, but she was barely more than a child and she was hurting.
“Mother… She’s… She’s” Seren whimpered through her choked gasps, unable to get the words out properly before another sob took over her body.
“Mother’s gone Seren… She’s gone, I’m sorry!” she could hear the pain in his voice, she knew that he was hurting too, maybe just as much as she was, but she was selfish, she couldn’t calm her breathing or stop the sobs that overwhelmed her.
Lukas placed his hands on either side of her face, forcing her to look at him and as she stared into his eyes and saw her own pain mirrored within him, her breathing finally calmed as she heard him breathe the words “Her fight is over…”

(This perhaps isn't her happiest moment, but it is a moment that she remembers well and is considered a happy memory.)
Sprinting through the forest Seren had one thing on her mind. Escape. Her legs ached from running the long distance from the village of Tondc which now lay far behind her. Her breath came out in ragged gasps and grunts and eventually she slowed to a halt, her deep brown eyes scanning her surroundings, cautiously, ever vigilant. Suddenly she heard the familiar sound of a twig snapping underfoot and in the complete silence of the forest is sounded like a thunderclap. Like a startled deer, Seren forced herself to keep moving, darting between the trees, leaping over logs, she no longer ran with the perfected skill of stealth that had been drilled into her ever since she could remember. Now her movements were clumsy and tired, she could hear her feet hitting the ground, far too loud, she would be heard, she was certain of that. Finally Seren could run no more, slowing to a halt she allowed herself to catch her breath, her throat and lungs burned, never before had she been made to run for such a distance, never allowing herself to stop for long.
An alarm cry came from a bush nearby and several moments later a startled bird erupted from within, flying into the sky, free from the dangers that lurked on the ground. Seren reached for her sword, whatever, whoever had started the animal would be nearby, of course the warrior could not be certain that she had not startled the bird herself, but her gut told her that she was being watched, the hairs stood up on her arms and every instinct told her to trust her gut. It was one of the first things she’d been taught as a child, trust your gut, it will never lead you wrong. Several seconds went by and nothing happened, Seren did not hear another sound and perhaps foolishly she allowed herself to relax. Almost at the age of seventeen the girl was a warrior, she’d finished her training recently and was eager to prove herself; she’d already made many kills during her brief life.
Suddenly, something erupted from the foliage, taken by surprise Seren had no time to reach for her sword and just as her hand touched the hilt of her knife that was attached securely to her belt, she was knocked to the ground, the air wrenched from her lungs causing her to gasp for air like a fish out of water. Bell like laughter reached her ears and despite the girls discomfort the sound brought a smile to her face. Squinting up at the warrior who had pinned her to the ground she took in her features, every little detail of her face. It was a girl, she wasn’t much older than Seren and she was dressed similarly, streaks of black face paint masking her features. Her name was Sae, the person whom owned a piece of Seren’s heart. She was beautiful, or at least that was how Seren saw her, a gem to be treasured and protected, but she was also a deadly weapon, a battled hardened warrior even at such a young age and if anybody ever crossed her, they’d be dead before they could even blink. Seren knew that, it was the way of their clan to begin training their warriors as children. “You’re getting better” Sae chuckled, climbing off of Seren and offering a hand to help her to her feet. Taking it gratefully, the smile upon Seren’s face broadened. “You travelled twice the distance that you managed last time and didn’t stop nearly as much” these training sessions were harsh, but necessary, a warrior had to be able to travel long distances, sometimes at an impossible pace and could not be allowed to slow if they had any chance of survival. They had to have perfect stamina to withstand the strain a battle would have on their body, they had to be strong, fast… There was no room for error.
“I only got this far because you allowed me to, if you wanted to you could’ve stopped me miles back there” Seren grunted meeting her lovers gaze as the smile vanished from her face, disappointed with herself despite her achievement.
“True, but if I had taken you out back there then we would have no idea of your capabilities, I wanted to see when you would give up, when you would reach your limits” Sae muttered, closing the distance between them. As Seren lowered her gaze, Sae took a hand and using her forefinger and thumb, lifted the girls face to meet her gaze once again “do not doubt yourself Seren” she breathed, her eyes sparkling with humour “you’re a talented warrior, you are capable of much more than you believe” she kept her hand beneath the girls chin until she was certain that she would not look away again.
Seren smiled at Sae, she couldn’t believe how easily the warrior could manipulate her mood as she did, so quickly she could change from being angry to happy, annoyed to delighted, just from Sae’s presence. Whenever Sae was around Seren felt like she could let down her barriers, stop being a warrior and just be herself, she could stop being Seren of the Woods Clan and just be Seren.
“I love you, you know that?” Seren breathed slipping her hand into that of her lover and searched her gaze for anything hinting that she returned her feelings. A smile seemed to light up Sae’s whole face as she leant in towards Seren, closing the distance between them. Their lips locked and Seren seemed to lose herself in the moment of unforeseen affection. But the moment was over just as quickly as it had begun as Sae pulled away.
“We should get back to Tondc, Arwen will want to be informed of your progress” she told Seren, much to the girls disappointment, but nonetheless she began to follow her girlfriend back through the forest, thankfully at a much slower pace than they’d been travelling before.

A lithe figure sprinted through the dense forest that belonged to the Trigeda, the territory was familiar to this girl, she'd spent her childhood scaling the trees, she knew the area like the back of her hand. This grounder was dressed mostly in leather and her face was smeared with the black face paint that symbolised that she was part of the Trigeda. The reason that this warrior was running now was because of the weather, she could taste it in the air, smell it in the breeze that blew through the trees. A storm was coming and Seren knew from experience that it was not pleasant to get stuck away from the village during a storm, especially in one as big as she felt this one would be. More experienced warriors than her had been lost in storms such as this one and she did not want to meet a similar fate. Since the cease fire had been put in place the people of her clan had felt like they could move freely for the first time since the sky people had come to their land without the risk of being shot at. However there were other dangers that Seren had to worry about, that was why she now ran with her sword strapped to her back and a knife in her belt. When they had marched upon Mt Weather, Seren had been more than eager to see everybody inside that mountain burn. The mountain had been a shadow hanging over the coalition for too long, far too long. They'd taken too many of their warriors, they'd taken Sae.... The rain was now coming down in torrents and forks of lightening lit up the sky, Seren's face paint ran down her face as the rain drenched her to the skin. If she had known that the weather was going to take such a drastic change then she would've never ventured out of the village, she would've stayed in her tent and continued to help Gastor perfect his hold on his spear... That still needed a bit of work. Already she could see the trees bowing, a branch hit the ground just to her left, urging her to put on another burst of speed. Suddenly she skidded to a halt as she heard a voice calling out, to her? It was distant, almost lost in the wind but it was definitely there, calling in trigedasleng, instantly understanding her native language instantly Seren looked around, bringing a hand to her face she wiped the water from her face and it came away black. Cussing silently as she realised that she smeared the black ink. Spotting the individual through the downpour, it was immediately apparent that it was a sky person, not somebody of her clan or a neighbouring clan, Seren was unsure if this was a good thing or a bad thing. However, they were calling to her, maybe to offer her help as it was clear that she would never make it back to her village before the storm reached its peak. Letting out a frustrated growl, the girl changed direction, sprinting straight for the man as he took a couple of steps in her direction, risking a quick glance upwards she let out a nervous grunt, it wasn't safe to be out in these conditions, she knew that her brothers would be with her father wondering if she was safe, wondering if she had found shelter. Just as she reached the man she looked him straight in the eyes, unsure what to say to him, she thought maybe she owed the sky people, they had wiped out their enemy when the Heda had been unwilling to do so. Of course Seren was unwaveringly loyal to the commander, however sometimes she didn't agree with some of her decisions. Sae was not among some of the people that had been recovered from the mountain, Seren had not expected her to be there, it had been five years, but her absence was still crushing. The mountain men had deserved everything that they got, Seren only wished that she had been there to see them burn.

| ~ • ~ | Character Basics | ~ • ~ |
.:Name:. Seren .:Nick Name:. She hasn't really got any nicknames... .:Affiliation:. Trikru, The Coalition .:Age:. 21
| ~ • ~ | Appearance | ~ • ~ |
.:Physical Appearance:. Seren is a young woman who stands at around 5'6, she's got a slim, athletic build and long dark hair that she often decorates with the usual intricate braids typical of grounders. She does not enjoy wearing masks as she hates to feel restricted in anyway and instead whenever she goes to war she wears the usual black face paint that is associated with the woods clan. Seren usually wears leather clothing, she doesn't feel the need to wear furs as it doesn't usually get too cold within the Trikru's territory, they aren't as far north as Azgeda. Seren has countless scars on her shoulders, the larger one on her left shoulder is the mark she received upon becoming a warrior and the smaller ones each represent each of her individual kills. She has tribal tattoos, one on her left calf and one on her right arm and a large one on her back. .:Height:. 5'6 .:Portrayed by:. Celina Jade
| ~ • ~ | Personality | ~ • ~ |
.:Personality:. It could be argued that Seren isn't the friendliest of grounders, but this is only how she appears at first glance. Once you get to know her you'll figure out that Seren is willing to behave civilly to outsides. She is just extremely protective of her clan and the commander. She is distrustful of the sky people as she believes them to be like the mountain men and has not yet got to know the people that they are, she only knows the destruction that they have brought to her clan. She believes that every grounder within the coalition should be willing to lay down their life for their Heda and this proves that she is incredibly loyal, she is so loyal that if her own brother went against the Heda she'd be willing to drag him back to their village to receive punishment for his crimes. Seren is a strong believer that if you are stupid enough to commit a crime then you should be brave enough to face up to the consequences and receive punishment and she follows orders, even if that means sentencing those she loves to death. She enforces the laws laid out by the Heda. Despite the fact that she would be willing to execute her brother if he went against the coalition, she cares for all of her relatives dearly and is extremely close to them. She could be considered over protective and confrontational and her mistrustful nature makes it hard for people to get close to her but when you get past her hard exterior and get to know the girl inside, she will give you everything, protect you from anything that could cause you harm and show a softer side that a select few people have ever seen. .:Special Skills:. Seren is a warrior, she is skilled with weapons and has been trained since she was a child to fight with everything she has. Her weapon of choice is a sword and she never leaves the village without her blade secured to her back, out of the way so that she can run without it constantly getting in the way and restricting her movements, but also in a position where she can grab it easily if she ever needed to defend herself. She can throw knives with pinpoint accuracy and of course she is trained in hand to hand combat and can easily over power a foe twice the size of herself. However, she has never been able to grasp the basics of archery, it wasn't that she didn't try, it was the fact that she found it too hard to master the skill and eventually grew frustrated and gave up on the task, she believes that the only weapons she needs are her blades and her fists.
| ~ • ~ | History | ~ • ~ |
.:Birthplace:. Tondc .:Family:. Mother (Deceased), Father, Brothers: Lukas (24), Gastor (13) .:Occupation:. Warrior .:History:. Seren grew up in Tondc, she was the second child born to her parents as she already had a brother named Lukas who was three years older than herself. Seren was extremely close to her brother, she looked up to him and he was extremely protective of her. Her earliest memories are of Lukas and herself sparring when they were small children, just for fun as they hoped that one day they would both be warriors. When Seren was eight years old when her brother Gastor was born, unfortunately there were complications and her mother did not survive to see her youngest child, she didn't even hear him cry. Seren was deeply saddened by her mothers death but her father told her that she had to be strong, she had to train hard and fight for their clan, for their survival. Soon after her mothers death a warrior named Arwen took Seren on as her second. The warrior took on a motherly role to the child whilst at the same time trained her to be a formidable warrior. Skipping ahead eight years to when Seren was sixteen, she found a brief love interest in Sae, a female warrior in her village. Whenever Seren was with Sae, she felt like she could let down her barriers and be herself, but of course their happiness did not last. Sae went on a patrol one day and never returned, the rest of the patrol returned without her and revealed some devastating news, Sae had been taken to the mountain. Immediately after hearing this news Seren wanted to go after her girlfriend but her father would not hear of it, Arwen ordered her to remain in camp and as a precaution her father sent Lukas to watch and confine her to her tent. Nobody ever left the mountain once they were taken and Seren had to accept that. The mountain posed a major problem for the Woods Clan, many of their warriors were taken, many of their scouts never returned from their missions. The grounder clans thought that the mountain men were the greatest enemy they would ever have to face, but they were wrong. Five years later, something fell from the sky, a ship of sorts that contained people, those same people destroyed a village with fire, tortured one of their scouts and sent a very clear message, they were there to stay and they weren't afraid to kill people. Seren was immediately wary, she told her brother Gastor who was now thirteen to stay within shouting distance of Tondc and declared that he may be training as a warrior but he was still a child and not ready to face a foe as dangerous as the sky people. One thing was clear though, they were dangerous and couldn't be trusted.
