She was busy reading, and hadn't realised that someone had stood in front of her. She jumped as she heard a voice, one she didn't quite recognise, "Hey bookworm," The boy that stood in front of her was tall, with light brown hair, blue eyes, and a light complexion. She recognised the face now that she saw him. He already sounded arrogant, and that concerned her a little. "You finish the homework assignment?" She wanted to scoff, but was afraid to offend him. She didn't think that would be a wise choice. "Yes. And you?" She asked cautiously. Why was he talking to her? He had never said a word to her before. Did he want something? She supposed he did, or else he wouldn't talk to her. It wasn't like he wanted to be her friend, no one wanted to be her friend.
She looked up at him, waiting for his response, but she had a feeling the answer was no. She also had a feeling that he was going to ask her to do it for him. The thoughts suddenly caused her body to respond, butterflies entered her stomach, and her heart rate accelerated. But she wasn't sure why. Did the boy scare her? Certainly not. Guess she was just afraid to talk to him. Or afraid she will upset him in some way. She wasn't sure how he would react. Better to be safe than sorry; that was her motto.

Nic finally saw Raven sitting at her work bench, looking quite stressed. “I just need a little more time okay?” She shouted, causing Nic to jump instinctively. She had not expected that. Raven then seemed to realise that whoever she thought she was talking to was not her. She walked over, extending her hand out to Nic. “Nice to meet you…” "Nic." She replied, taking her hand, shaking it lightly, still slightly taken aback at Raven's earlier outburst. She didn't blame the girl, everything had been stressful as of late.
“And it seems you know who I am, so, how can I help?” Raven said. Nic leaned against the wall, and awkwardly looked away. Right, she was here for a reason. For a moment she was stuck, too shy to say anything. How could she do this without sounding like a freak? She hadn't rehearsed what she was going to say. She had dreaded this meeting for a while, but it was bound to happen. Nic swallowed once, finally turning back to Raven, and tried a small, but shy smile. "My leg. It. It needs to get fixed." She tugged on her pants slightly, glancing down to show Raven her ankle. From there you could see some metal. Definitely not a real leg. It shocked most people, it even shocked herself sometimes when she woke from a dream where she didn't have this dumb prosthetic. "It's... A prosthetic." She added as an after thought, as if it wasn't obvious enough.

Nicolette was minding her own business, walking around camp, watching. It had only been a few days since the events at Mount Weather and it left everyone in a bad mood. It was awful to watch those that had suffered, suffer. She watched the faces of grief, the faces of anger, and those who tried to ignore all that. Clarke leaving was a huge surprise to everyone, but Nic thought it was quite brave. It sucked to leave like that, but... She understood why the girl did it. Though now all the blame was put on Bellamy. The whole camp was in a mess.
Nic watched as people went about their lives, trying to make sense of what happened, and what she didn't see was the small pothole in the ground. Her right foot caught in it, and she stumbled forward, falling. She grunted loudly, and by some miracle no one had seen what had happened. While she had fallen there had been a loud click noise. Shit, she thought. Her leg. She sat up, and carefully maneuvered around so that she could stand again. It didn't work out very well, and she fell to the ground again, hearing a clang this time. Again, from her leg. She took a deep breath and continued. Finally she was able to stand, but only on her good leg. Great, she thought, now I need to fix it.
As best as she could she hobbled to a nearby wall, and tried to assess damage. It wasn't something she could do herself. It was time to go and meet the infamous Raven. The mechanic. Slowly Nic made her way to the workshop. Along the way there were a lot of weird looks, but no one seemed to want to help. Everyone was in their own world. Finally, after what felt like eons, she made it to the workshop. She hobbled inside, her leg clicking every time she moved her bad leg, like clockwork. "Hello?" Nic called out. "Raven?" She walked in, glancing around for the girl. Nic was self-conscious about her leg, and she tried to avoid getting it fixed by mechanics or engineers as much as possible. But sometimes the damage was too much for her, and she couldn't fix it herself.

“Basically since I can remember.” Clarke replied. Nic smiled lightly. "Well, your drawings are beautiful." She told her softly. And they were, there was no denying that fact. It was impressive that she had kept it up. On the ark it was hard to have hobbies. This was clearly one of Clarke's. But maybe because she was more priviledged than others? Nic didn't know. She didn't have many hobbies, mostly just reading books. She didn't have any talents, basically she was just a boring person who had become a guard. There was nothing special about her. Her parents made sure of that. “Will you take the charcoal away? Please, I’m not hurting anyone with them. I’m going to be floated anyway. They can be washed off, too. It’s just charcoal.” Clarke was pleading with her. "Of course I'm not going to take it. Here. Take it." She held out the charcoal to the girl. There was no point denying the girl the simple pleasure of drawing, of not being bored. At least this way maybe Clarke could respect her as a guard, and not bother her in the future, unlike some of the other delinquents that she had to attend to. Though so far it seemed that Clarke was going to behave. Making life easier for the both of them. Nic wanted to ask the girl some questions, but was to scared to. Not because of her shyness, but because she didn't want or need to get attached to Clarke, not when her fate was most likely to be floated. She had already had a hand full of people she knew die, she didn't need any more. It was best to keep this as professional as possible, without being too harsh on the younger girl.

The woman didn't say anything further about the topic, but Nic could tell that she wanted to say more. Nic appreciated it, if she had continued to talk about it, she may just break down right there. She was that fragile right now. Of course she tried her hardest not to show it. This was tough. She was a cadet after all. There was no time to feel like this. She had a duty to the Ark.
“If you want, you can stay, have a drink or something. You can also leave. I’m guessing it will take me three to five hours, depending on what’s going on today. It would be best if you called in before, so I can make sure you get what you need. You don’t need it in the next two hours, right?” Aurora asked her. She took a moment to decide. "A drink would be nice." She confirmed. Maybe it would be safer here, rather than home or wandering the corridors. She needed to feel safe. "I'm done for the night, so it's ok, take as long as you need." Nic told her with a small smile. She would try and be safe for those hours. She doubted she would have gotten any sleep if she was lying in her own bed. This definitely was the next best thing, even if she felt a little awkward.

The girl seemed to look a bit worried when she replied, “I am, but I’m not sure you are. I packed a blanket and food and water. I don’t know if the thing will last the entire drive. It’s the first test drive. It would not be too surprising. We might be forced to stay outside tonight.” Nic nodded once, of course. That made sense. "Give me a moment. I'll go grab my pack." She said quickly before rushing off to her bunk. She always had a pack ready in case of emergencies. This wasn't an emergency, but it definitely was good to be prepared. She slung the back over her shoulder and grabbed an extra gun for good measure, tucking it into the back of her pants before heading back to where the girl was still waiting.
"Alright, now I'm ready. Lead the way." Nic said politely. This was going to be interesting. Her first time on a Jeep. An actual car. She had always wondered what it was like. And now she was going to get that chance. Of course she would hide her excitement, and make sure that everything went smoothly. They didn't know what was out there, any number of things could be threats, and Nic had to be focused on that, and not her daydreams.

Nic felt slightly awkward standing around, as Aurora assessed the damage, and questioned Nic's answer. She didn't know what to say, there was a lump in her throat. Of course the sheets were a lie, but she could not for the life of her tell anyone about what had happened to her. Nobody would know. Certainly not a stranger. Aurora's response hinted that she had knew roughly what had happened, but Nic couldn't admit that. In case something awful were to happen again. "No. Nothing like that. Just normal sheets of metal, ones who can't talk." She replied, softly, looking away from the woman. She immediately regretted answering, knowing she sounded nervous, her voice slightly shaky. She hated feeling like this, but she knew nothing else right now. She was scared, in pain, upset. Nothing good. She felt as if her body were just a shell, a mask, her insides a dark shadow trying to consume her.
“Yes. I will have to insert a bit of fabric for this one, but that should be no problem at all. Unless they have changed the rules about that. Have they?” Aurora asked her, focusing on her uniform. "No, they haven't." Nic replied, short and sweet. She didn't want to spend too much time here, not because she didn't like Aurora, she seemed like a nice lady, from what she had heard from Bellamy, but she just couldn't shake the feeling something bad was going to happen. To her. She was a bundle of energy, and she needed to do something about it. She just didn't know what. But the uniform was more important. That had to be fixed first before Nic could focus on herself.

Nic was kind of glad for this man's company. He definitely wasn't like the other boys in her class. He seemed to be very against what Curtis and his gang thought was ok. "At the very least he deserves to get a broken jaw." He told her. And she laughed at that. "Well, I wished I could. Maybe one day it will happen. Wipe that smug look off his face." She said, imaging it now in her mind. She could punch hard, she knew that, and it would definitely be satisfactory. But she couldn't just go up to him and punch him. She would definitely get told off. She didn't need that in her life. "Guys like him give the rest of us a bad name," He replied. "But I promise, we're not all like that." She smiled at that and nodded. "I know. But there are plenty of guys out there that are like him." She sighed once. "But hey then there's you, and my best friend, Benny!" Benny was a good man. He would never do anything so selfish and stupid. Nothing so morally inappropriate. If the girl was willing, well that was a different story. But the fact that he HAD to try and sleep with all the girls, well... That was just childish. "That's two."
"Bet he can't stand the fact that you're talking to another guy right now," The man said, a little jokingly. But he was right. There Curtis was, glancing at her, who was glancing at him. She raised her eyebrows at him, and he glared, looking between her and the man she had only recently met. The one who looked like he could easily beat the crap out of Curtis. Yeah, this somehow made her feel good. "Oh, look." She laughed. "What an idiot." She didn't like to call people names, except for herself, but he really was. "You know, I should probably ask your name." She realised. He was definitely worthy of knowing her name. "I'm Nicolette Carter, but you can call me Nic." She gave him a bright smile. It was the nickname Benny had given her. She thought it was kind of badass, rather than Nicolette, which sounded so... Not badass.

“Charcoal. The pictures in the cell were made with them. Helps pass the time in isolation. I’ll be floated in a few months after all. For treason.” The girl replied. Nic gave a small smile. This technically wasn't forbidden, so she let it slide. She doubted it would be much fun in isolation. She glanced around at the walls, she had noticed them as she walked in, but hadn't thought that Clarke had made these. "These are incredible." Nic commented. And they were, there was no denying it. She couldn't draw. Only basic shapes, but nothing as intricate as these drawings. "How long have you been drawing?" She walked over to the girl, and held out the charcoal to her, wanting her to take it.
Nic knew why Clarke was in here, she had been briefed on every prisoner she had to see. So she was no stranger to her traitorous reasons. Nic didn't quite agree that she should be punished, but laws were laws for a reason. She was here to enforce them. That she could do. Her job as a guard meant she had to do a lot of things that people didn't agree with, or things SHE didn't quite agree with. And because of some of the things she had to do people hated her for it. Maybe not her specifically, but the guards in general. She didn't mind. As long as everyone kept the peace. That's all she could ask for.

Warriors - Paradise Fear This song is a wonderful song that can be applied to Nic's little story in her mind. The one she's slowly starting to tell Thalia Tait. It somewhat describes Steve, and how he feels, his confusion about his title of Prince, and Heir to the Throne. ------------------------------------- I've spent twelve months Fighting this illusion of me Stuck in the shadows Of the person I'm supposed to be And lines got blurred Somewhere in between My fathers son And their twisted fantasy There's a soul There's a pulse There's a warrior There's a hole where my heart used to be Now I'm filling it up with all the things I always said I'd be So I let you in But I'm so scared of what you'll see Just skin and bones Hiding this monster inside of me

The girl lightly brushed off Nic's compliments, and Nic just smiled. She didn't like compliments either. She doubted the girl got many of those either. "It's still a gift, you can use it in any way you please. I wouldn't mind you singing more to me." She chuckled awkwardly, that sounded so weird in her ears. She was also happy to hear the other girl wanted to know more. She had always wanted to tell stories. One of her little dreams was to have a child to be able to tell bed time stories to. But this would do. Of course Thalia wasn't a child. But she was just as excited and invested. In a more mature way.
Nic started to tell her story. "One day Steve, a handsome knight, Prince of the kingdom, was wandering the forest thinking about how to talk to his brother without yelling at him. He had found out that his brother, Colton, had tried to ask out the kitchenmaid he was in love with, but didn't do it. Too scared." She smiled lightly. "He needed to find a way to get his thoughts across to the younger man. If it were Steve he would have asked the girl out when he first knew what his feelings were. But of course his brother wasn't him. He sat at his favourite tree, staring up at the leaves high up above, thinking, 'what if I-" Nic's ears perked up. She thought she heard some rustling. She frowned, grabbing her gun, and pointing it towards the tree line, glancing into the shadows. She thought she heard it again, but couldn't see anything. "Thalia." She warned softly. "Get behind me." She whispered.
She had been wrong. Something, no, someone landed on top of her, knocking the gun out of her hands. She fell backwards with a heavy grunt. "Ah!" The noise came from the person on top of her. She glanced up, her fist quickly following her gaze, punching the person in the face. She could finally see, it was a grounder, easily distinguished by the mask they were wearing. Terrifying up close. The grounder grunted, and quickly pulled his arm up, a knife in his hand, bringing it down towards her. She quickly went into fight mode, blocking the grounder's attack. She grabbed one of her own knives, hidden in a small pocket on her pants. She pulled it out, stabbing the grounder in the side, trying to push him off. She managed to get out from under him, scrambling to her feet.

OOC: That song was epic! I loved it... As you can tell from the way Nic reacted... haha
----------------------------------------
When Thalia explained how she felt about Nic's story. Well. Nic was absolutely taken aback, her breath was literally taken away by the small breeze that came through the small clearing they were standing in. Thalia's voice, was... Incredible to say the least. There was something so enchanting about it. She loved the words too. It resonated deep in her mind and bones. Her spine tingled, her skin was now goosebumps, and she felt like she was going to cry. "That. Was. Beautiful." Nic finally said in a soft whisper, after the girl had finished singing and explaining her thoughts behind it. She hadn't needed the explanation, but she felt the truth behind it. "I know a thing about the story running through your blood. I literally felt that right now." She gave a small chuckle. "I'm delighted that you love my characters. Maybe I can share my story with you? I mean, aren't stories meant to be told? To someone, anyone? I tell the stories to myself, but maybe it's time I share it with someone else?"
It was incredible how in such a short amount of time, this girl, Thalia, was able to get these things out of Nic's head, and out into the open forest. Right now, this was their enchanted forest, from those fairy tales, from the old days. This was their haven. Even for just a moment. She felt like anything could happen right now. She felt almost powerful. But she wasn't. This forest was bigger than all of them, they were just small creatures among the beautiful, tall trees. The trees could hide anything, be anything. She could not dictate what the forest would do, or what it could throw at them. But... She decided that was the beauty of it all.

Nic felt absolutely awkward while the two people clashed, grounder vs arker. She had let this happen. She was such an idiot. She never should've talked to this guy, never should have let him into her life like that. Dumb, Nic, she thought to herself. Later she would probably punish herself, most likely relive her worst memories. Great. Clarke was going to be pissed at her when Vine left. But she deserved it, so it was ok. She would listen to her leader, and take in as much criticism as she could. “I’m sure Bellamy and Kane kept tracks of that. I’d suggest you sit down, rest and then afterwards report to Kane. He’ll want to have a full report. My mother, too, probably. You deserve to rest now, though.” Clarke told her, in the middle of all of this. Nic shrugged lightly. Yeah. How was she going to explain this? She was most likely going to get fired! Man, she really had screwed up. "Yes, Clarke." She said a little awkwardly. She turned away from the girl and glanced over at Vine, who was now angry He gave her a slight nod before turning and walking away.
She had screwed up. It was official. She wanted to tell Clarke that Vine didn't have any weapons on him, that he was only there to find plants. But she didn't want to make the situation worse. She glanced at the guard who was still holding onto her. "Could you take me to the engineers, please?" She asked in a small voice. "Sorry." She told Clarke. "I'm sorry." She whispered, more to herself rather than to Clarke. The guard started to walk her towards the engineer's tent. First order of business, get her leg fixed.

A guard had come to help Nic, and she was grateful. She placed her arm around the guy's neck, while the guy held her waist tightly with both arms. She smiled at him. "Thanks." She told him. The guard helped her hobble towards Clarke. Clarke and Vine seemed to be in a staring contest of dominance. They were exchanging words, but Nic wasn't really listening, she was focused on walking with only one functional leg. It was hard, but the guard was good at keeping her balanced enough for her not to fall over. In moments like these she felt both awkward, and annoyed. Annoyed at being useless and having someone to help her. But right now it couldn't be helped. It either this or being carried in his arms. Carrying definitely was not an option, it freaked her out. Nic gave a small chuckle at Clarke's comment about the search party. "My shift wasn't over yet." She just said. Every time she was in Clarke's company she felt a little awkward. Once upon a time Nic was the superior, now Clarke was. But that wasn't the awkward thing about it. Clarke's personality was just so strong. She radiated authority, confidence. Everything Nic wasn't. And she never knew how to act around the girl, or woman, as Clarke definitely shouldn't be considered a girl anymore. She was so much more than a girl.

Hearing the girl praise her for her fantasy was incredible. It boosted her confidence just that little bit more. It was a strange feeling, she never really felt that way. She gave a small chuckle at Thalia's mention of her job. "Don't get me wrong, I love to shoot things too. And hit things. I suppose it comes with the territory." She told the girl. And it was true. There was something great about shooting and hitting things. Sure she wasn't a violent person. "It also helps to imagine battles in my head." She added.
They still continued to walk, and Thalia continued to work. But it was starting to feel a bit more comfortable now. "And you are not stupid," the girl replied, giving a small but friendly smile, filled with a warmth Nic only knew from her best friend. "Your colorful imagination just proves how intelligent you are. You've created an entire person, with a family and life struggles." Nic smiled at that. "Well. Thanks for calling me intelligent. Hardly anyone has ever called me intelligent. You know, apart from my teachers at school. Come to think of it, when they heard I was joining the guard, they told me it was wasted potential. Because I was smart, highest grades in the class, every year. But hey, look at me. I have a job that I love, isn't that important?" Intelligence, was definitely not associated with being a guard. They were seen as determined, and aggressive people. People who only knew rules, and followed them no matter the consequences. They were thought to be heartless, people who shot first asked questions later. But Nic thought she was a little different than that. Even some of her fellow guardsmen weren't like that. The people who weren't guards didn't know everything.
Again Nic smiled when Thalia wanted to hear more. Thalia was really sweet, and Nic appreciated it, very much. She didn't feel so nervous anymore. It was a rare occasion to feel like this. Might as well enjoy it while she could. At that moment they had stopped, and Thalia was digging up some roots. So Nic looked out at the trees, making sure no harm came to the girl. "Alright." She smiled happily. She didn't know where to start. "So Steve's background. His father is King, King Joseph, and he is a very mean king. His people don't really like him, but they follow him nonetheless, he was their king. The Queen, Queen Constance, she was a lovely wife to her husband. The King, he used to be liked, back when his Queen was still alive. The Queen unfortunately was murdered, by a famous assassin. Codenamed The Shadow. No one knows who this person is, no one has ever seen them." She spoke in her story telling voice. "She was murdered when Steve was about 8 years old. And after she was murdered, well the King sent out a small group of knights, tasked on finding this assassin, to no avail. They all died. The King in his grief became a bitter man. But every night he would stare at the portrait of his sweetheart, and cries." She said sadly. "Steve has 3 siblings. His younger brother, and second in command, Kristoff. His other younger brother, Colton. And finally his younger sister, Autumn. And of course Steve being the oldest is next in line for the throne." She continued. "Anyway. Steve and Kristoff are similar in some ways and completely different in others. Both of them Knights, have values that are the same. But Steve, he has a temper. A really bad one. He tries to manage his anger, but he's not very good at it. Kristoff is usually the one in the way of this, who tries to help, but can't seem to. Steve sometimes loses his temper and hits him. But Kristoff doesn't take it in the wrong way. He doesn't have his brothers temper. Steve and Kristoff are both calculated people, able to think 10 steps ahead, they think things through very well. Kristoff is much nicer, able to see the good in people, even his older brother. Steve doesn't think he has any good in him. Which makes him very confused, a battle in his own mind." Once Thalia finished with the root, they continued on, and Nic continued telling the younger girl about Steve and his family. "Now. Of course I had to add myself into the story." She gave a small chuckle. "I'm just a kitchen maid, you know, nothing special. She's lived her whole entire life in the Castle that the royal family live in. She grew up with Kristoff. They are around the same age, and somehow became friends. For years the two of them have had feelings for each other, but neither have done anything about it. Because they don't think the other likes them. Steve knows his brothers feelings, and tries to get him to do something about it, but Kristoff is a little stubborn, and refuses to do it, afraid of being rejected." Nic paused, glancing at the girl. What else could she say about the royal family she had made up in her mind? "Steve has always been a little rebellious. Sneaking off for days at a time, fighting monsters. Or he would hide some important documents, or some of his sibling's stuff just so that they would have to find it. Steve was cheeky like that. He didn't do it because he was cruel or anything, he just liked to challenge them, to prove himself worth something. He also has a complicated relationship with his father, who has never really liked his eldest son. And likes to punish him whenever possible. Steve, being relentless, just takes it in vain, and still continues to annoy his father." It felt good to get all of this out of her head and out in the open. "I think that's about it in regards to Steve and his family. And now that Steve is older he knows he has a responsibility, and wants to be a better King than his father, but he just doesn't know how. He has only really seen his father be greedy and cruel. He himself doesn't see himself as a good man, no matter how hard he tries. So he contemplates handing over the throne to his younger brother, but he doesn't know if his brother would be able to handle it, or whether or not he is ready." Again she looked at the girl, and this time waited for her to respond to her character's background. Hardly any of this had to do with the actual story that she had created for the past few months. Of course backgrounds were important, but the best bit was the actual story. The struggles and triumphs of these characters. How they may have changed, or stayed the same.
