When she asked her question about his scars he gave her a certain look, almost asking her 'do you really want to know?' Of course she did. He obviously hadn't been attacked. So what else could it be? And with that he got up and sat down right beside her, on her left. She turned her head to look at him. Up close she could see every single feature of his face, and could see the scars even better. They really were perfectly straight. She looked between him and the scars as he pointed at each one of them and told her. They have scars for each kill they do. She was intrigued. But also a little afraid. I suppose they were warriors, survivors most of all. Of course it would be a great honour to show off how many people you had killed. She suddenly had the urge to touch them, lightly, but held herself back. That would just be weird, she scolded herself.
Glancing at the scars, she thought about her own life. She had killed a few reapers, but there hasn't been much excitement since she came down to the ground. BUT she had killed one man. It was self defence. Either him or her. She hated to think about it, sometimes in her dreams he would be there. She was definitely not a killer. She coped.... But only just. She supposed that if you grew up learning to be a warrior all of that wouldn't have much of an affect on you, you would easily wear those scars as a badge of honour. "Wow. Incredible." Was all she said. She thought she had stared enough and looked away, facing forwards again. Her body was tingling with a nervous sort of energy, as the scars reminded her of bad memories. The scars on her back started to feel almost itchy, and she raised her arm, reaching behind her back, trying to scratch away the memory.

As the man dismissed her comment about herself not being a goddess he just smiled at her, and she glanced away feeling embarrassed. How was it that she always seemed to get into embarrassing situations whenever she was engaging with men? She didn't understand herself sometimes. But she couldn't help it. When it came to men she knew nothing. Which was surprising considering her best had been a guy. But then again he had been dead 5 years now. She couldn't believe it. 5 years had gone by so very fast. And she still missed him like crazy. This was not the time to think about him however.
A breeze had started to pick up, a warm one at that. It was nice. She had never felt a breeze before coming to earth and she closed her eyes lightly, taking in the feel of wind on her face. "I am hot." The man announced. She opened her eyes again to find him unbuttoning his outer layers of clothes and taking them off. Underneath he wore just a beige shirt, that revealed his muscular build. And she could also see scars. They were perfect. They were vertical lines and aligned on his right shoulder. She glanced at them quickly before looking away. It was rude to stare. But she was curious. These must have been put there for a reason. How else would they be so perfect? She really wanted to ask him, but she didn't know if she should. She hated it when people asked her about her scars. Of course sometimes she forgot they were there. Especially the ones on her back that were hardly ever shown. She had never told anyone the truth. Nobody. She always lied. Sometimes it would be the same lie, sometimes she would change it around. But she couldn't bring herself to tell anyone. It had been horrific to her, and she had just wanted to forget. It wasn't possible. You can't hide from things like that ever. Because the attacker was on the ground with her.
She awkwardly moved, she needed to stretch her leg out. When she moved her right leg, her prosthetic one, it made a loud click sound. Please, she hoped, please don't be broken. She shouldn't have sat down on the ground, crossing her legs always gave her leg problems. But she tried to ignore it. "How?" She finally dared to ask the question that was burning her mind. She pointed lightly at the scars. "How did you get those? Why?"

"Warrior of Peace." He called her job. And she smiled brightly. That was an interesting and amazing way of thinking about being a guard. She would have to file that away for later. She loved to find new ways to describe things. And grounders had an interesting perspective on all the things that her people did or were. She liked it also because it was so simple. Warrior of Peace. It was much nicer to say than guardsman. But she was no warrior. Yes she could fight, and she could fight well. But did that make her a warrior? She didn't think so. She was shy, and warriors were brave.
She continued to look at him and listen to his voice, saying he had never seen anyone like her. She wasn't surprised. She looked so different than him, her pale skin compared to his tanned, and her hair even was just pulled up and twisted into a bun, some hair always escaped, hanging down the side of her face. And when he called her a goddess, well she laughed, not because it was funny, but because he had never in her life been called that before. She absentmindedly touched her scar, one of her flaws. That definitely didn't make her a goddess. Not that she hated her scar. Sometimes she was self conscious about it. "No. I'm not. You should see some of the other girls at camp." She shook her head in slight embarrassment. She had never found herself beautiful. No one had called her beautiful before. Not even her parents. But they had been too busy shouting at each other to notice her. No boy had ever come up to her and told her she was pretty either. She just wasn't.

Nicolette was sitting by herself at the front of the classroom, it wasn't time to begin classes yet. But she liked to be early, the other people that were here were talking among themselves. She had a book on her desk, and she was reading it, totally blocking out anything else. She was loving this book already, and she was powering through it in her spare time. She almost couldn't put the book down. Only when necessary.
She hadn't gotten to know many of her classmates, since no one had bothered with her. She didn't mind though, her whole life she only had 1 friend, but that was enough. Who needed lots of friends when you could have 1 best friend that you share everything with? She didn't understand the need for so many friends. But at the same time you would think that these people would WANT to get to know their classmates if they were all going to be guards one day, you had to be civil with them, you relied on them to help you out when necessary. But she wasn't looking to make friends, too shy to approach them anyway. Not that they were at all intimidating.... Ok, she was lying to herself, they were a little intimidating. Especially the girls. They weren't like how she was, and that scared her a little. They also gave her weird looks sometimes, which she didn't understand, nor would she ever.
This was just her life and she had to accept that. Which she did.

She could tell that he didn't fully understand, but she didn't mind, it was the thought that counts. He continued to eat and look at her, and she wasn't sure what to do anymore. But then he asked a question, "And what is it you do?" That she could easily explain. "I'm what we call a guardsman. I protect the people, keep the peace. Sometimes I have to arrest people if they have broken the laws. But things are a little different now that we are on the ground. Still same job though." She explained. "This uniform?" She pointed to herself. "This means I'm a guardsman, if you see someone in this uniform you know what they are." She was proud to be a guardsman, and it had been her dream since she was a little girl. It wasn't exactly how she had expected it to be, but that was what was so thrilling about it. You never really knew what you were going to do next. This was a great example, she woke up this morning not knowing she was going to encounter a curious grounder, nevertheless eating plants with him!
He then edged towards her, smiling, and she stared at him, but leaned back slightly. "Are you nervous? Of my here?" She glanced at him a moment, what made him say that? Was she acting nervous? She couldn't tell! She cocked her head to the side lightly. "Not as much as I'm usually like when around strangers. Why?" She said. She just continued to look at him, a slight nervousness creeping into her stomach. Had she been wrong? Was he actually here to kill her? Oh no, what had she done?

Nicolette had been placed in a different part of the skybox, she wasn't sure why, but she didn't question it. More kids to get to know. Not that she knew many, just that she would have to remember faces and names. But that was ok. It was time for a search though and she unlocked Clarke's room. The girl was facing her and not to the wall. But this was common behaviour for these kids. They always demanded something. But this girl just asked her name. "Nicolette. Nic for short. Please turn and face the wall. It's time for a search." She told the girl. Sometimes all these kids needed was a friendly enough guard, a nice voice to listen to. But it all depended on the kid. Some of the kids would shout at her, or stare at her scar. Other kids would laugh at her sounding so friendly, but that was when she would bring out her strength, which they hadn't expected.
Searches were rather eventful for some of the kids. A lot of them at first would try and hide food, which wasn't allowed. And then they would just protest, which never helped their case, at all. The kids who didn't fight were the ones that Nic was nice towards, and she tried to be as nice to the others as well, but sometimes the kids were just so aggressive.

She nodded along to his answer of what he did. So it seemed he did the odd jobs, she could appreciate that. Someone had to do it. Just like her odd jobs as being guard. Sometimes she just had to do boring things. Such as standing in a forest, watching the trees for danger.
He continued to question her about the ark, and she smiled at his question. "Oh. We did it on purpose. We wanted to come down here. We. Uh. We were going to run out of oxygen, you know, what we breathe. If we stayed we would have died. So we took the risk of going down to earth because we knew the kids were safe." She explained. "We made sure the thrusters were pushing us into Earth's gravity, and that's when we fell." She hoped that it was a good explanation. She had never tried to explain it to anyone, in her mind it all made sense. She understood what had had to happen, and had known the risks.
She wondered why this particular grounder was so curious. But she supposed that some people were just curious by nature, and he just happened to be one of them. But in the back of her mind she wondered if she should be telling him all this stuff. She was smart, but very curious right now. Surely things would be good?

He tried to sound out the word sugar and she smiled, nodding. "Yes. But... It doesn't look like that. They are small grains. But same taste." She explained to him. If only she had some sugar on her, she could show him. But unfortunately she didn't. Which was a little disappointing. She ate another one, trying to savor the flavour. Ever since crashing to the ground they didn't have any of their normal foods from when they lived up in Space. So this was a small luxury only she had gotten to experience.
He told her that he had no role and she was very curious. She would have thought that everyone had a specific role, that's what she had gathered anyway. Nic and her people did. Everyone had their role, and that made everything run smoothly enough. "So, do you do jobs here and there?" She asked, wondering. If he didn't have a specific job, then what did he do?
He continued to eat, and finally he asked another question. He pointed to the sky, "How did you stay there?" She liked to talk about the sciences, those were her best subjects at school. Or had been. She hadn't studied science in a long time. "Oh. Well, there is thing called gravity, which is why we stay on the ground and not fly. Our home stayed just outside of this gravity. We also had mechanisms that helped keep us in the same place, which would push air in the directions we wanted. It's all very complicated." She tried to explain. Of course she could go into more detail, but she doubted this man would understand many concepts of science. She glanced up at the sky, that's where her home used to be, up there, in space. She still couldn't believe she had survived. After all that has happened to her, she had survived the trip to the ground. With no one she loved, but then again she hadn't had anyone to love for many years. She sighed glancing at the ground, ok, she didn't need these negative thoughts. She was over the death of her parents and best friend. She had years to get over it. And she was. But sometimes these feelings would creep back in.

The door opened and Bellamy's mother stood in front of her, smiling. Her eyes flicked to the injury to Nic's face and then to the bundle in her arms. She invited her inside and quickly sat down. Nic hesitantly walked inside, glancing around quickly. It was quite small in here, but she wasn't judging. She sat down and glanced at the woman. "What can I help you with?" Aurora asked her. She handed the woman her bundle. "Need to get my uniform fixed. Small accident you see." She told her, she probably didn't need to explain why it needed to be fixed, but she felt like she should. She was nervous. Not that this woman intimidated her, but because she was still on edge from her accident. Well it wasn't an accident. It was an attack, but she didn't really want to admit it to anyone, let alone herself.
“Mind if I ask what happened to you? Did you have it checked out?” The woman asked. The question she had dreaded. Nic cringed lightly. "Oh. No. I'm fine. It was just an accident, I fell over some sheets of metal." She said quickly. Of course this was NOT the truth. But she wasn't going to tell a stranger that. No way. She wasn't going to tell anyone. Ever. "Are you able to fix my uniform?" She asked. She wanted to be out of here as quickly as possible and go for a long, long walk. She doubted she could sleep tonight.

Nic was taking a small break, trying to fix her fix the strap of her prosthetic leg while in the bathroom. It was difficult, but she managed. She was used to it, so it didn't take long. She just hated to do it. But there was nothing she could do about it. Once she finished she went out and searched for a snack to eat. She managed to find some nuts that she could crunch on, and she leaned against a post, watching people work. She hadn't been assigned anything yet, so she was bored yet again.
A girl then walked up to her. She recognised her as one of the mechanics. They had rescued her not too long ago. It was incredible really. "Nicolette Carmichael?" The girl asked. "I'm not sure if you've been informed. I've been told you you're free to join me on a trial run for the new vehicle. I'm gonna need a guard outside." Huh. A chance to go outside without being confined? Hell yes. She grinned and nodded once. "Call me Nic. I'm definitely free." She replied. She was so happy, this was not going to be boring after all. She was going to go out, further than she had ever been outside of camp. Excitement bubbled through her, and she couldn't help grin. The only thing holding her back from doing a happy dance was that she had never talked to this girl. She was going to feel awkward if she had to talk to her. But that was beside the point. The need to get out was far more important than being afraid to talk to this girl. "You ready to go?" She asked.

Having sat down the man started to rustle through his bag until he found what he was looking for. A plant, it rod shaped with green and yellow. She wondered what this did.
"So. . ." he said as he worked, not looking at her for a moment. His eyes finally flickered up to her. "Sky person .. how do you finding the world?" She didn't know how to respond to that question at first. She continued to watch curiously as he tried to pull apart the plant. It looked really difficult. What was inside? And what was this used for? She gave a small sigh and a smile. "Amazing. There is so much space. I am not stuck anymore. Well. I guess, I am stuck in camp." She shrugged, but not that he was looking anyway. "But it's beautiful here. So many things to look at. Breathing here is much easier. There is quiet." She wasn't sure if he could understand everything she was saying, she hoped he could.
Finally he got the plant open, and started to pull it apart a little, revealing pips. He put one in his mouth and grinned at her. "They are tough." He held out one of the rods to her. She looked at it a moment wondering if she should take it. But she was curious. She doubted he was going to eat it if it was going to kill her. She took it from him and placed one in her mouth. At first there was a bitter taste and she scrunched up her face, but continued to bite into the pip. Then she tasted it. The sweetness. It was familiar. But what was it? She began to laugh happily. "Sugar!" She announced. "This is a sugar plant." She was really excited, maybe they could have sugar again. She would have to inform some of the gatherers, they would know what to do with the plant.
"What do you do for your people?" She decided to ask him. To herself it was interesting that she could feel so comfortable around this complete stranger, someone who didn't act or live like she did. She just hoped that it wouldn't backfire.

He man revealed his name was Vine. He moved cautiously, trying not to do anything too quickly. She knew that he was just trying to keep himself safe. He slowly pulled open the satchel hanging at his side, and she glanced at it. What was inside? She was surprised to see that it was filled with plants, different kinds. He looked at her, seeming to look for approval and she nodded, no longer pointing the gun at him. He seemed somewhat harmless, if all he had was plants, than surely he wasn't a warrior. Warrior's wouldn't go forage for plants. Maybe he was a healer looking for medicine? She wasn't sure, but she knew that he was ok. He wasn't going to hurt her unless she provoked him.
He sat on the ground, looking up at her with an odd expression of curiousness. She had never seen this expression on a grounder before. Who was this guy? Everything she knew was thrown out the window. And now she wasn't sure what to do. This was new territory. Strangers weren't her specialty, so she would have to do the best she could, try not to be so nervous about talking to him. Her hands shook lightly, as she decided to also sit down, but it was difficult with her leg. She struggled having to bring her left leg down on the ground while her right one bent as far as it could, and she fell on her butt to the floor, giving a light grunt. It didn't hurt really, it was just so annoying, even after all these years.
"Is that... a .. battle . name, sky person?" The man asked her. She gave a small chuckle, rested her gun beside her, pointed away from the man, after having clicked the gun on safety. "Oh. No. We don't have battle names. Just one name." She told him. Nic was already starting to be really interested in him. She didn't feel as awkward around him, because he wasn't like her. She felt like she could have a better conversation with him, than a stranger from the Ark.

The grounder slowly dropped the knife on the ground, and Nic felt a little better about it, she just hoped he didn't have any other weapons, which he most likely did, having known grounders, or anyone that knew how to fight. She herself had several knives. The grounder slowly revealed himself, but stayed close to the tree. He held his hands up in surrender and slowly took a few steps forward. She continued to point the gun at him, but she wasn't sure if she needed to. But just to be safe, until she could see that he wasn't a threat anymore. He stopped to ask a question, "What do they call you, sky person?" It was a curious question to ask. His speech wasn't the greatest, so it meant he wasn't fluent in English, so she would have to try and speak in an easy way to him. He didn't look very dangerous either, with his wide curious eyes. He seemed different than the others, but she didn't want to underestimate him. "I'm Nicolette, but Nic is good too." She replied. "And you are?"
She wasn't sure what to think about Grounders anymore, seeing this man had already changed her view on them. Of course she was still going to be on her guard, but she didn't think she had to worry too much about his intentions. "What are you doing here?" She asked him. This was their territory after all, he technically shouldn't be here.

It took a while before she heard a reply, and she was startled if she had to be honest with herself. She doubted many of the grounders would actually reply if they wanted to kill her. "err.. Hello there, Sky-person. I mean you no harm..." She heard the shout. She took a step forward, squinting, and there in the distance she could see an arm sticking out from behind a tree. A big wave to catch her attention. And attention it did bring. She was curious. Most of the grounders she had encountered tried to attack her. She continued to hold her gun up, now pointed in the direction of the person. "If you come forth I won't harm you." She shouted back, not sure what else to do. There was so much more they could learn about the grounders. If this grounder didn't want to harm, could she talk to him? Did she have to capture him? In this moment she wasn't entirely sure what to do. There were no set rules as to what to do when they saw a grounder, with the exception of them attacking, she would have to defend the camp.
She waited, not daring to move in case this could be a trap. Her eyes scanned the rest of the surroundings, but she couldn't make out anything else. The grounders were sneaky, able to move quietly in their surroundings, easily able to fool the people who did not know the area, aka the arkers. Nic was observant, but not enough to know everything about the surroundings, and with her prosthetic leg it made it difficult to move quietly. She would make a horrible grounder if that was the case, she thought to herself.

Nicolette was on guard duty, which frankly bored her to no end. But it had to be done. It at least gave her a chance to think, coming up with stories about battles and like. It entertained her when she was most bored. She was walking around in the forest, not too far from camp. Things had been pretty quiet for some time, and guard duty was starting to become mindless and easy. She didn't complain though. Sometimes it was nice to get away from the hustle and bustle of the camp. She didn't always like big crowds much. That's what she liked about Earth. There was just so much space! So much freedom. Well freedom enough, the camp still restricted her. But she didn't dare venture out by herself, much further than she needed to for her duties.
She was just imagining her main character ending the battle, and being victorious, when she thought she heard a noise in the trees. She walked forward, holding her gun up and scanning the surroundings. She thought she heard footsteps and her nerves started to pick up. Was it an animal? A grounder? An enemy? She was ready for anything. "Hello? Anyone out there?" She cocked her head to the side a little, staring into the distance. It was sometimes hard to see in this forest, it was quite dense, so she couldn't make out anything other than trees and bushes.
