I won't let ANYTHING BAD HAPPEN TO YOU That had been close. Too close. The first time he had tried to plan something for Octavia to be out out their quarters . . . and it was definitely going to be the last. Had it not been for someone else, then Octavia would have been caught. Their mother would have been floated, and Octavia imprisoned and floated as well when she reached the appropriate age. But alas, Clarke Griffin had helped them. He was beyond grateful for it, but Bellamy was also extremely nervous. Everyone knew who she was, and that she was with the Chancellor's son. He didn't know if she was going to keep this to herself, and needed to find out.
He was still expected to chaperon the dance so he went back to where all the teenagers were getting back into the swing of things after the surprise inspection. His eyes searched the crowd for Clarke, and when he finally found her, he made his way through the group of teenagers until he was standing near her. "Hey," he said in a low voice, but loud enough for her to hear considering their close proximity. "Can I talk to you for a sec, in private?" He asked. He didn't care about where her boyfriend was or if this looked suspicious. Right now, all his concerns and fears were related to Octavia, and further discovery. One person had already found out . . . he couldn't let anyone else. So he needed to both thank Clarke, and hope he could convince her to keep this to herself. She and her family were so close to Jaha though . . . too damn close.

Wells had done it all. He had gotten her a dress, a mask and everything just to get her to go to this damn masquerade with him. And of course he got her parents on his side. So in the end Clarke had next to no choice but to go. She meant to pretend to have a headache initially, but that one was actually coming soon for real, long before the solar flare. As she was holding hers and Wells ID while he was out to talk to his Dad via coms, she noticed commotion with a seemingly young guard and a girl who had no ID. She heard them, heard him claim he already scanned her when he had no scanner. Clarke made a snap decision, the desperation tickling her instinct to help. She snapped Wells ID in her hands so it would become unreadable and headed over to the girl. Clarke pretended she had tried to repair the broken card that was hers and the guard had just tried to keep them out of trouble for something so trivial. After Clarke got scanned, they took cover. Wells, after discovering she broke his card of course made her stay in return.
Clarke sat in the corner, bored while Wells made more smalltalk, obviously enjoying himself. She did not expect the guard to come again. Had she screwed up this badly? But he asked for a word in private. Clarke just nodded and followed him to wherever he brought her. “What’s this about? The girl?”

I won't let ANYTHING BAD HAPPEN TO YOU When she agreed to speak to him, he led them to the abandoned hallway, close enough to keep watch in case anything happened, but far away enough to be out of earshot. The loud music and chatter certainly helped. She mentioned the girl, and his expression was a serious one as he looked at Clarke. "Did you tell anyone about what happened?" He asked. Wells, any of her friends here. His voice wasn't accusatory, but he had to know.
He needed to figure out how to deal with this. Getting Octavia back was only half the work. He now had to cover his, their tracks. He would never forgive himself if he got Octavia arrested and his mother floated. That was a guilt and fate he could not endure. "I need to know," he added on, hoping she would be honest with him but fully aware that she had no reason to be. Perhaps her loyalty lay more with the Jaha family and doing what the Ark demanded by its laws. He wasn't dismissive of the fact that what she did, technically was aiding and abeting and that this was putting her at risk too . . . but his first and foremost priority had to be Octavia.

What the hell was the deal with him and this girl? Underage girlfriend or what? Secret daughter? Whatever it was, Clarke wasn’t sure she wanted to get involved with it. She had seen they needed help, she had easy access to it and had done so. Being privileged had its advantages after all, especially for Wells as he was basically his own ID – lucky him. Lucky girl as well.
“No, I didn’t.” It was the simple and easy answer for her. She had not told anybody about what really happened that she didn’t know that girl or whatever. “The guy who’s ID this was is slightly mad, but he thinks I broke it in surprise as the alarm went off.” Broke it with precision, too, but Wells believed her, which was good.
“What’s the deal with you and her. Is she your girlfriend? Daughter?” Oh god, no. Had she honestly asked him that now? This was embarrassing. “Sorry, you’re clearly too young to have a daughter. Uhm. I just wanted to help her. The guard can be, cruel. At a night like this… they already arrested several kids for doing drugs, so I just tried to help and I had the chance to.”

I won't let ANYTHING BAD HAPPEN TO YOU He felt relieved when she confirmed that she didn't tell anyone, not even the guy who's ID she took. "Thank you, for doing that." He owed her his sister's life. Speaking of which, she then inquired as to who the girl was: a girlfriend, a daughter . . . a daughter? He looked at her a bit strangely at her suggestion though she seemed to catch herself and apologize, saying that he was too young to have a daughter that age. Well, at least he didn't look that old. Clarke further explained that she just wanted to help her saying that the guard could be cruel. He knew that first hand.
His mother already had to perform certain . . . favors, to get a heads up about surprise inspections. He hated seeing the way that asshole leered over her. But she had to do it to protect Octavia. He would have to tell her the truth. Clarke might mention in caual passing about the girl, since this wasn't drug related. It wasn't just a matter of Octavia being illegaly at this party; she was illegaly living on the Ark.
"I know this is a lot to ask, but I need you to keep what happened tonight to yourself. No one can know about this." Alright so he didn't exactly answer her question right away; but he had to tell her how imperative it was for this to never be repeated to anyone. He wished he had something to offer her in exchange, but she was privileged. She could get whatever she wanted. "I need your word." Her promise, hoping it was good for something since he didn't know her at all. "I'll give you whatever you want in exchange." He had basically nothing, but had to at least offer.

He really seemed to care for this girl, deeply. How could she not do as he asked then? If he cared, he would not get her into trouble either as that would endanger the girl. They were both safe then. It would be okay. At least that was what Clarke deduced from this conversation. “I don’t even know what this is, to be honest.” And she wasn’t sure she wanted to know. It seemed to be quite heavy, quite dear to him. “I’ll not say a word to anyone, unless directly asked by this guard.” She would have to back up the story. “I will stick to the story then, he has no way to prove me wrong now, does he?” At least she hoped so. Clarke was just about to ask him something else as Wells came over. He placed his arm around her protectively, which had Clarke roll her eyes and shoot the guard an apologetic look. Wells asked what was up then.
Clarke turned to smile at him. She fingered a pill in her pocket as an idea formed in her head. “Nothing is going on, Wells. He was just checking on me because he saw me jump at the alarm where I snapped your ID. And he was so kind to give me painkillers for my headache. Nothing is going on.” She held up her hand with the painkillers she brought as her exit plan.

I won't let ANYTHING BAD HAPPEN TO YOU Bellamy didn't know if it would be better or worse to tell her the truth about Octavia. Maybe it was better just to keep it unknown. It would put her in a less dangerous position as well. "So what exactly will you--" He wanted to know the exact words she would tell anyone in the guard who asked but before he could, Wells showed up, putting his arm around Clarke. Bellamy didn't have time for this immature protective boyfriend bull shit. He needed to speak to Clarke alone but that didn't seem like it was going to be happening soon.
He asked what was going on and just like that, Clarke came up with a reason for them to be talking that had nothing to do with Octavia. Bellamy remained silent, letting her take the lead on it cause . . . damn, she was good. It gave him further reassurance that she would indeed keep to herself what happened tonight. But that didn't mean he still didn't need to hear the exact story. "Right," Bellamy said, going along with Clarke's words. "Hope you feel better," he told her with a small nod. "Let me know if you need anything else," he told her. Damn it, Wells. Bellamy was going to be paranoid until he had a proper conversation with Clarke. Hell, he'd probably stay paranoid now with someone else knowing about Octavia. "You should get back to the party." They were teenagers after all, and dances weren't overly frequent.

Clarke didn’t know why, but she wanted to answer his question. If only Wells had not interrupted them. How could she… change this? What could she do in order to get her boyfriend off her back to talk to him a bit longer? Clarke looked down at the painkiller in her hand and had the idea that would do it. It was so easy and so hard to prove that her story was completely false. She just hoped he’d understand what she was trying.
“Actually, you go ahead, Wells. I don’t want to spoil your fun. I’m pretty sure my headache is getting worse. Could be a migraine and… You go to your friends.” Wells nodded and was off, not even checking how true her story was. Clarke sighed and turned to the guard. “So, to back up this story, would you walk me home? A migraine does could as a valid reason to walk a teenager home in the night, trust me, especially after a solar flare. Medical student. I’m Clarke, by the way.”

I won't let ANYTHING BAD HAPPEN TO YOU Damn. She was really good. She thought quick on her feet, and it seemed she was willing to speak with him over her boyfriend, which was something else he greatly appreciated. She didn't owe him anything; he owed her everything. And yet, she was continuing to help him. He knew it was too soon to get comfortable with her knowing, but so far, she definitely wasn't making his paranoia increase. "Of course," he said with a nod, already turning to the hall as he waited for her to stand alongside him. She was right about that; escorting her home would definitely fall under his list of duties.
Especially considering who her family was. She was part of the privileged people on the Ark. Any neglect would have greater consequences. "Bellamy," he introduced after she offered her name. As they started walking down the hall, he was relieved to see it was abandoned. It was late anyway, so to be expected. But it would at least allow them to talk. Still, he kept his voice low. "You think real fast on your feet," he pointed out. "I'm guessing this isn't the first time you had to think quick under pressure," he added on with an ever so slight smile. She seemed like a good person. Someone who was willing to risk a lot to help a complete stranger. He truly, truly appreciated that. For whether she knew it or not, her efforts in saving Octavia, saved his mother and himself too.

Bellamy, now that sounded like a first name as well. She would have expected a guard to offer rank and last name, but ti seemed like she had come across an unconventional guard in every sense. He protected kids instead of desperately searching for someone to get out of line in order to whatever they got out of that, maybe a kick. He was different, an exception and that made him somehow interesting. She liked people helping others, no matter the reasoning.
“You’re right. I’m a med student. I have to think fast there, otherwise people might die.” Clarke had not lost anyone yet, but she feared it. She wanted to keep the number of people she lost on the table as low as possible, but it would only be a matter of time before it happened. The rules were so strict, with some patients, she would have to let them go because the laws forbade her to use more supplies to save them. It bothered her every day, but she’d do whatever she could before that. “Besides, my mum is on the Council, I had to think fast if I wanted to get away with anything, even if it was just reading beyond bedtime.”

I won't let ANYTHING BAD HAPPEN TO YOU She elaborated her position as a med student, which made sense considering her mother was the main doctor on the Ark. "Makes sense," he agreed with a nod. "That's a lot of pressure," he went on to say. She looked young, no older than eighteen for sure. And already she was a doctor's apprenctice. It was an extremely respected position and it only made him fill with more fear over what this could mean for Octavia.
Thus far, she didn't give him reason to not trust her . . . but his recklessness had endangered his sister. He couldn't just set that aside just because Clarke seemed like a good person. She went on to say how her mother was on the council -- something that Bellamy was all too aware of. "Not to mention you're dating the Chancellor's son." He paused for a moment, not having meant for that to slip out, unsure of what his tone was when he said it. He turned his head to look at her. "Sorry," he apologized, knowing it was none of his business. It was just part of his worry that he was asking her to choose to protect a stranger, rather than confide in her partner. "It's none of my business," he added on, not daring to admit that it had become his business.

Somehow she felt like she could tell him. He didn’t know Wells or Thelonius. At least not as closely as she did, she assumed. He seemed to be strangely trustworthy to her. He came off like this earlier was so very important to him, that he had to make sure he could trust her. Maybe that was the reason why she opened up to him about something she had shoved into the depths of her soul. “No, it’s… it’s okay. It’s to be expected. I’m Abigail Griffins daughter, dating Wells Jaha, it’s a match made in heaven, isn’t it?” But it really wasn’t. Clarke sighed again. “I didn’t want to go to the masquerade, but he insisted. I would have rather stayed home with a book and to rest. He’s… he’s not it.” It was a comfortable relationship, naturally. She had everything she could ask for, only the one thing she really wanted she didn’t think she had.
“Something is missing. But I don’t know what it is, I can’t name it. Maybe it’s me being an idiot or… well expecting too much, but something is missing.” And she could just not name it. Wells was good, mostly. But he was the comfortable choice, the choice everyone expected from her. She wanted happiness, not comfort. So there he was, he had a bit of a private information of hers, too, now. Maybe that would put his mind a bit more at ease about the whole situation.

I won't let ANYTHING BAD HAPPEN TO YOU Bellamy had to admit that he was a bit surprised that she was admitting all this to him. He wasn't naive enough to believe he was the only person she was telling. She probably had friends she spoke to about this . . . girl talk. But, it did the trick. For he could tell she was confiding in him about something extremely personal, and that indeed cause his mind to start to become at ease. Assured that she would advertise what had happened tonight. "You don't sound like an idiot," he told her in her defense. Bellamy had never been in a relationship.
Not a serious, long term one that lasted more than a night or so. His sister was his number one priority and that was the only relationship he had time for. "You can't help how you feel I guess," he offered, not having anything valuable to contribute to the subject of relationships with significant others. "So why are you with him?" Was that too personal? Was he crossing the line? He found something rather intriguing about Clarke apart from her being damn beautiful. And it was enough to make him ask her a question that he perhaps no place asking her to begin with. "Again, none of my business," he added on with a bit of a smile. Words to assure her that he wasn't trying to pry . . . though his question suggested otherwise. Besides, it was far easier to talk about her than him.

“It’s comfortable, I guess. It’s what is expected of me.” That covered it just a little better. It was expected of her. They grew up together, there had been talk of them together for so long and then it happened. They kissed, they fell into a rhythm, they became a couple. That was it, that was their entire romantic story, a story she really did not feel proud of. It wasn’t the typical lovestory. “It’s okay, Bellamy. It’s a valid question, actually. The truth is our parents are more in love with the idea of us being together, than I am in love with him.” She couldn’t blame them.
“How bad would it have been had she been discovered without ID?” Right now she had no idea who this girl was and she wasn’t sure she wanted to know or should know, but at least she thought she should know how bad it would have gotten, had she not been around by luck. For some reason it seemed to be so very, very serious when it began and right now. She wondered who this girl was, but if it was better for her not to know, then so be it.

I won't let ANYTHING BAD HAPPEN TO YOU She said that it was comfortable, that it was what had been expected of her. "Just because it's expected of you, doesn't mean it's the right thing to do." That, he did have some experience with. He was on the Guard -- or well once he passed his Cadet status. He was expected to uphold the law, enforce them. But instead, he was breaking it every second of every day. He didn't think it was wrong though. How could it? That would be saying that he believed Octavia should die for existing which she didn't at all.
"You proved that tonight as well," he further explained. As a citizen of the Ark, she too was expected to uphold the law but she had helped him with something that she knew was clearly illegal. She went on to say that it was their parents who liked them together rather than her actually being in love with him. That didn't sound like an ideal situation to be put in. "You should do what you feel is right." He may be out of line saying this, but he decided to go ahead and say it anyway. "And being with someone for the sake of everyone else's happiness other than your own, doesn't sound right." Well this was getting a tad bit deep. Bellamy didn't usually get involved in anyone's relationships but . . . she was opening up to him about this. So he had to say something.
Her next question caused him to fall silent for a few moments before responding. "Bad," he answered simply, but with the utmost truth. "She would have been arrested. And then floated as soon as she turned eighteen." Her case wouldn't even be reviewed. Her existance was against the law, and there would have been no leniency. Not to mention the fact that his mother would have also been floated. "You saved her life tonight, Clarke. And it's not something that either of us are ever going to forget." He meant that. He was indebted to her. Perhaps if she knew how she had literally saved them, it would make her less likely to tell someone. He wasn't getting the impression she was the kind of person who would go back on the promise she made him . . . but he was still scared. Scared for Octavia and his mother. It was his job to protect them and he couldn't fail in doing so.
