20. Watching a bad reality TV show. Cause darling I'm a nightmare dressed like a daydream Oh, this was just to good to be true. Josie grinned like a Cheshire cat as she stood in the doorway, watching the horrible T.V show with mild amusement, knowing that Malia would never normally be caught dead enjoying it. It was the worst kind, with horrible acting, and cheesy dialogue, the kind that was advertised as 'reality' but was entirely scripted. She laughed out loud when one of the stars said something outrageous and ridiculous: was this one of Malia's guilty pleasures?
Still grinning, she locked eyes with the woman from across the room, the expression on her face teasing. "Enjoying some quality T.V, I see." Josie hadn't called ahead, hadn't told Malia that she would be stopping by this afternoon. No, she'd simply let herself in, as she normally did now that they were good friends. And boy was glad she had because she would never have caught Malia in the act if she'd known she was coming.

Malia had absolutely no idea what was going on. She studied the light box--the...TV--with a frown. It was hard enough to wrap her head around the idea of the object itself. There were pictures moving on the screen, people's voices coming from it. As she watched the pictures move, she could not figure out what was going on. She did not know what she was watching. Was this something that had happened? The people on the TV did not seem very genuine. It was hard to believe that there were actually people like this once. She understood that this had taken place a long time ago. There was not anything here or back at home that looked like this, not anymore, anyways. Perhaps long ago the earth had looked like this. She realized she could barely name the objects and things around in the screen. Those were trees, sure. Those buildings looked odd, and what were those people wearing? It looked ridiculous. Surely those clothes could not be practical.
As she continued to watch, she realized she wanted to know what was happening and wanted to know what would happen next. She studied the people as they walked around the screen, interacting with each other, becoming less confused and more curious as the show went on. She smiled faintly as she heard their laughter. Whatever was going on, they seemed happy, and it made her feel like she wanted to be there, too laughing with them.
Malia was so focused on the TV that she did not hear Josephine walk up to the room. She did not notice her watching her from the doorway. So when she suddenly heard laughter that did not come from the TV, Malia jumped in surprise, quickly standing up as her hand went automatically to her side where her knife would have been, but she remembered that it had been a while since she had had a knife actually there. She relaxed when she saw that it was Josephine, not someone trying to kill her, even though she doubted someone trying to kill her would have laughed. She sat back down on the couch. It was comfortable, and she liked it.
Her brows furrowed as she tried to understand what she had meant. Had it looked like she had been enjoying it? She certainly had been captivated by it, and that seemed embarrassing, and she found herself blushing slightly as she watched Josie's expression. She straightened herself up and fought back the blush. She did not want to be embarrassed, or at least show that she was, though she knew it was too late already.
"Do you ever knock?" Malia demanded as she studied her. "I would suggest knocking next time. You startled me." She decided to get up, brushing herself off even though there was no reason to. She was embarrassed and feeling awkward and she did not know what to do with these feelings. She disliked them and hoped that she would not go through them again. Tagged: Josephine Lightbourne
