The Skaikru boy let his eyes roam over his surroundings, still feeling unsure about what to do. He bit his lip at Aden's words as the boy actually seemed offended by Hunter's suggestion that his people would hurt him. He did remember a few of the Grounders helping his people cultivate new plants and trade with them for ingredients he'd never seen in his life. They actually had real milk that tasted sweeter than Hunter would ever have imagined. It was probably a bit stupid of him, but he'd never even thought about Grounder children, but of course they had to exist, he'd just never thought about these people as parents before. Every Grounder he'd met so far had seemed so terrifyingly intimidating to him, but he remembered one of them being prepared to share his wisdom of planting a potato with him and the man had seemed almost gentle with him, probably because he had the bonus of being a kid. He sighed as he looked up at the sky, seeing how low the sun was already standing. It wouldn't wait for him to decide that to do and the prospect of being alone out here in the dark was rather frightening. With his arm being injured, the survival skills he'd started to learn wouldn't really help him much so he guessed that he really had no other choice but to follow Aden.
„Okay, okay you're probably right!“, Hunter finally said, raising his healthy arm apologetically. „I guess I have no other choice but to trust you and your people anyway.“, he added with a bit of a teasing tone. Trust was still a concept that was pretty hard for the boy. The only thing he'd ever been able to trust was his survival instinct since his mother had been as defenseless as himself against his father. Staying alive through the beatings he had to take and what little food he could scrape together what with his father using all of their points to satisfy his desire to drink, had been his sole focus during his life on the Ark. Trusting someone else to help him get through was a new thing for the boy. „So how long will it take to get to Polis?“, he asked, wincing a little as the pain of his broken arm kicked in.

Hunter's eyes, their blue even more striking with the stark contrast of the ashes and blood covering his face, seemed blank. Only on the edge of his conciousness was he aware that he had stopped moving. His ears were still filled with the ringing of the explosion, blood trickling out of one of them because his eardrum had been shattered, but he was too numb to notice the pain of any of his injuries. His eyes seemed to wander at first, even when Bellamy crouched down in front of him, but then his figure was something clear that he could hold on to and he stared directly at him, his blue eyes looking wild and haunted. He suddenly held on to the young guard's arms, his fingertips almost like claws as they dug into the fabric of the uniform as if holding on for dear life.
„My mom, she's….she's still..“, Hunter began, panting but he was breathing so heavily and still so confused that he couldn't go on talking. Tears that he didn't know had built up inside his chest and then his eyes were starting to run down his cheeks, drawing clear lines into the dirt and blood covering his face. There was this sticker still stuck to his shirt. It was a name tag really, he'd found it in one of the class rooms of Mount Weather. It was a white, rectangular sticker that said 'Hello, my name is…' and he'd written his own name underneath it with a black pen. It was barely white anymore, covered with the same dirt as his whole body was, but the word 'Hunter' written in his own handwriting could still be read. He finally let himself fall against Bellamy's chest as he didn't have the energy to hold himself up on his legs anymore.

Hunter realised what Gena was trying to do and it was a nice gesture, but it wouldn't help. She was treating him like and adult would any other kid, trying to take his mind of the trauma of the moment. The problem was, he wasn't like the other children, even for Arker standards his childhood had been rough. And he didn't think like that because he wanted anyone's pity or sympathy but he had to see the reality of it. When his father had still been alive, telling himself that he was alone and strip his mind to his bare survival instinct had been the only thing that had kept him going. Sure, he had had his mom and she tried her best, but she'd been too terrified of her husband herself to be able to do much for her son. Still, he appreciated the young woman's efforts to keep his spirits up and he wasn't going to destroy her hope of helping him and just decided to go along.„Yes, I've been helping the farmers cultivate new plants. They allowed me to eat one of the plums so we could use the stone to plant it. It was the best thing I've ever tasted!“ , Hunter managed to give Gena a soft smile as he remembered how the plum's juice had run down his chin, a surprise to the boy since most of their food had only ever been dry. He grunted as his head hurt and his vision blurred for a second. But he knew that he had to power through if they were to get back to Arkadia. He had to let the guards know about his mom, if there was any hope of her still being found alive they were the only ones who could do it.Tag: Gena Martin

Hunter's face began to light up as he talked about one of his greatest passion. Back on the Ark, besides from taking apart mechanical devices, helping out in the green houses had been when he'd been the happiest. He hadn't always been allowed to help since some of the plants had been to delicate to let an amateur deal with them. But the adults had been happy enough to let him help with the easier tasks. With his experience and the knowledge he'd gained from old books, he was proud to say that he was quite a big help to the farmers. Hunter had been very intimidated by and scared of the Grounders at first. But a few of them had started to help the Skypeople with growing plants he'd never even heard of before and they were happy enough to share their wisdom with him. The boy absorbed their knowledge like a sponge, he couldn't learn enough about all the riches Earth had to offer them. He smiled brightly as Clarke mentioned the apple pie, on of the projects he'd been working on with another farmer and a kitchen help.
“We're actually pretty close to baking one of those. The Grounders have cows, actual cows would you believe that? They traded us some milk and showed us how to churn it so we can have butter. They gave us a few hens so we'll have eggs and the wheat will be ripe enough to grind to flour.“, Hunter began talking faster now as he was so excited about all the different ingredients they were gaining. They couldn't have done it without the Grounders and he was glad that they were at least on trading terms, although he knew some people on both sides weren't so happy about that. „You could be the first to try the first ever Arker apple pie!“, he said with a grin and sat down next to Clarke, careful not to hurt her. „The fruit and vegetables are just amazin. They don't have any of that artificial taste like they did back on the Ark. They're so sweet and just explode with flavor in your mouth!“, he laughed as he imitated the sound of an explosion, but then his face fell and he looked down, remembering the explosion that took his mother from him and left him with the large burn mark on his arm. He felt guilty for sounding happy, because how could he be when his mother was no longer alive to share all of these wonderful new things with him?

Hunter couldn't help a scoff from escaping his mouth as Aden suggested that his people might be worried about him. The thought alone seemed ridiculous to the boy since the only person who'd ever really cared for him, was dead. Maybe Bellamy would be a little worried about the young boy he'd found after the explosion that had killed his mother and injured himself but the young guard had too many far more important jobs to do so he wouldn't notice his disappearance for a while. And once he did, Hunter would just be another name on the long list of Arkers who had died since coming down to Earth, he would get over losing him pretty fast, the boy imagined. The thought of anyone really grieving for him somehow seemed ridiculous, especially now that his mother was gone. He was hardly irreplacable like Bellamy, Clarke or Raven would be were they ever lost.
He kicked at a small rock in front of his feet as this situation still felt uncomfortable and a deep frown was edged into his forehead. Aden seemed pretty set on taking him to the Grounder capital and that had him feeling even more sceptical. Hunter wouldn't put it beyond his people to use their children to lure Skaikru into their territory. After hearing so many terrible stories about the Grounders, the boy wouldn't put much beyond them and he was scared about walking into a trap. „Yeah right, I'm sure your people would love to help a Skaikru boy like me!“ , he said with a laugh and his head was running wild with stories about how a scenario like that could end for him. They could try and use him as a ransom to blackmail the Arkers, he was sure his own people would welcome him with curses and abuse in such a case, or they wouldn't even get him back at all. And who knew, the Grounders might even eat human flesh if they got their hands on a stranger that wouldn't be missed. The idea of going to Polis seemed less and less appealing to hom with every gruesome thought that popped into his mind when he'd been so curious about the Grounders before.Tag: Aden

Hunter could almost forget his pain as he listened attentively to the story Gena was telling about her mother. It had always amazed the boy how the people who had least of all, were the most giving. His own station on the Ark had been a great example for this. It had been one of the poorest station of all and of course there had been those who kept what little they had to themselves and noone could blame them. But in general they had all been a tight knitted community where anyone who could spare even a small scrap of bread gave it to someone who had even less. If it hadn't been for some of his neighbours, Hunter would probably not have survived since his father spent so many of their points on booze.
„I remember that my mom brought home a cake for my eigth birthday. I had never had a piece of cake before and it was the best thing I'd ever eaten!“, he said with a huge smile on his face as he thought of that memory. Of course the smile vanished the next moment as he remembered that his drunk father had come home to find the crumbs of the precious gift and he had yelled at his mother for spending so many points and he'd beaten his son because he was the reason for his mother's spending.

The boy was surprised that Clarke actually wanted to know about the plants he tended to. He often got the feeling that most Arkers of course knew about the importance of the farmers and their work, but they weren't really interested in what they did on a day-to-day basis. The work of doctors and guards seemed so much more exciting than digging around in the dirt and watching plants grow. Of course, Hunter knew that there was so much more to what he and the other farmers did, but most people thought of their job as boring. He sat up a little straighter, surprised about her enquiries and feeling a little excited to talk about something he loved doing. „Well, we've been able to cultivate some beans, tomatos, cabbage and potatos and we even got an apple tree sapling.“, he said with a proud smile, since apples were a fruit that the Arkers had always known about, but so far it had only been a dream to actually eat one.
„Of course we also have different kinds of berries, but another really important part of our plantation are the medical herbs. We also have two people go out almost every day to find new kinds of fruit, vegetables or herbs so we can start planting more.“, he said excitedly and thought about how he still dreamed of going along on one of the expeditions one day, since he's never been allowed to so far.

Hunter cursed himself for reacting the way he did and making Clarke suspicious, but he just couldn't help himself. He knew there was no logical reason to shy away frompeople other than his father but it was just the instinctive reaction of his body whenever someone got too close to him. He felt a surge of panic roll over him as Clarke started to question him, asking the sort of questions that he dreaded the most. His defensive barriers rose higher than ever and he started laughing nervously, trying to make her believe that her questions sounded ridiculous to him.„Of course not! Why should anyone hurt me?“ , he said, trying to sound convincingly shocked. His mind raced to find a good explanation for his behavior to get the girl off his back. He was quite trained in finding excuses, so it only took a moment for him to conjure up some sort of story.„It's just...me and the other kids in my class play this game. You have to punch another kid's arm before he does the same to you, so we're all always on guard, trying to avoid a punch. That's all!“ , he said with a shrug and gave the girl a reassuring smile.

Hunter started to feel a little more at ease as Raven treated him different than most people would. All the other adults seemed to just want to wrap him up in cotton wool, constantly asking him if he was alright and forbidding him to do almost anything because they wanted to protect him. The young woman just handled him like she would anybody else she might catch going through her stuff, or at least that's what it seemed like to the boy. She didn't talk to him in that voice that most of the other Arkers used when they spoke to him, overly careful and gentle as if he might break at any harsh soound.
He shrugged his shoulders when Raven wanted to know what he'd heard about her and looked at a broken powerdrill that had been salvaged from the wreckage of Farm Station. „Nothing luch, just that you're the youngest Zero-G mechanic in 52 years.“, he said in a playfully mocking tone. He couldn't help a grin from crossing over his face as she complemented him on his name. This moment still felt a little surreal to the boy since he'd always seen the young woman as a sort of rolemodel since finding out about her. He didn't mind helping the farmers of Arkadia grow vegetables and such, since he'd always liked studying plants and actually getting to see them grow was fascinating. But what he'd really always been pationate about was getting to know how the things around him worked, how every little piece fit into each other and seeing what happened when you removed or added certain parts. Raven's question threw him a little and he stared at her with confusion. „Strip wires? Why...I mean, sure...yeah, I know how to do that!“, he stuttered, still not sure what she was getting at.

Hunter felt a surge of frustration and despair when Clarke announced that she was not allowed to give him any medication. He gritted his teeth as his broken bone seemed to be begging for a relief from this pain. He wondered if he should just tell the girl about his broken arm, but that would just raise more questions that he didn't want to answer. His annoyance at not getting what he needed almost made him blurt out bitter words, like asking Clarke what good she was at the infirmary if she couldn't do anything to help him. The boy was distracted from his frustration when the girl in front of him asked him to give her his uninjured hand and he pulled back a little when she simply reached for it. His mind was stuck on the belief that any touch was bad and meant to do him harm, so he wasn't really keen for anyone to put their hands on him. „What are you doing?“, he asked with a deep frown just before Clarke explained just that. He did feel the pain of his headache, which wasn't as bad as he made it out to be to get some pain medication, ebb away but couldn'tsense much of a difference, which was probably due to the broken bone he hadn't told Clarke about. When the girl rached for his face, he jerked his head back with a sharp intake of breath, his good arm rising a little in an instinctive movement to protect his face. Hunter's heartbeat relaxed a little when he felt her fingers on his temples, but he still had that sceptic expression on his face. „Some pain killers would still work a lot better, you know? I hope she will come back soon!“, he said, closing his eyes for a moment as the tiniest movement of his injured arm made another wave of pain roll over his body.

Hunter kept cradling his injured wrist to his chest, noticing how it seemed to be slowly swelling up. Still, he didn't take his eyes off the other kid, worried that the Grounder might have some tricks up his sleeve and he could have other motives for talking to him. He was certain that the boy must have some kind of weapon hidden somewhere underneath his clothes, most Grounders did from what he had heard. His breath caught in his throat for a moment when Aden as he'd introduced himself asked if his people had hurt him. He thought back to the beatings he used to take from his father, but that man wasn't part of his people anymore. He bit his lip, trying to remember all of the boy's questions as he hesitantly opened his mouth to answer.
„My name's Hunter. I ran away from our camp because I was mad. My arm got burned in the explosion that killed my mother and everyone seem to have already forgotten it even happened!“, he said in an angry tone of voice, not even sure why he was telling this strange boy everything that he'd kept inside since the explosion of Mount Weather. Maybe it was because Aden was his own age and that made it easier than talking to an adult. Knowing the Grounder's name also made him seem a little less dangerous and foreign although his clothes did still create a huge contrast between the two kids.
„I hurt my wrist when I jumped off the Rover, I think it's broken!“, he stated, hissing a little as he felt another strike of pain go through the limb as he moved it a little. „So what are you doing out here?“, he imitated Aden's question. He wasn't sure about the way the Grounders educated their children, but he couldn't believe that they would let one of them be this far away from their next village all on their own. Of course he really had no idea, this could be some sort of training ritual or something along those lines. He knew that they started learning how to fight from a pretty young age, although he wasn't really soon at what age exactly. Aden did seem pretty young to be fighting anyone, but different societies could have a different understanding of maturity.

Only when Hunter tried to push himself off the ground did he notice the pain in his left wrist, letting out a yelp as it struck through him like a lightning bolt. His landing must have been a little rougher than he'd thought and the adrenaline through him had dampened the initial pain. It was uncomfortable and his face was contorted in a grimace, but he guessed that it was better to have a broken wrist than a broken ankle. This was by far not his first broken bone and he'd had worse injuries before. Maybe he could even construct himself a makeshift sling to speed up the healing process, but it was probably a good idea to get moving in general, since his people could come back any time and he didn't want to be out in the open when they did. Cutting through the trees would probably be the best tactic for now, using the trunks and leafy canopies to shield him from the view of anyone who might come down this path.
He was just about manoeuvre how to best get himself up without putting too much pressure on his injured hand when he heard a voice calling out to him. His head snapped into the direction of the sound, something feeling odd to him about the tone of the voice. Once he laid eyes on the stranger, he could explain what had seemed so weird about his speech. It was a kid, another boy who seemed to be about his own age. But the clothes he was wearing couldn't be more different to his if they had tried. He had to be a Grounder boy, Hunter realized with wide eyes and raised eyebrows. Of course the Arker hadn't been as naive to think that the natives didn't have any children, but it was something else actually seeing one of them. So far, he'd only ever encountered a few of their warriors and only from a distance because the adults mostly tended to keep him and the other kids away from the strangers. The boy actually looked a bit like that ever youthful boy Peter Pan, whom Hunter had seen in a picture in one of the library books back on the Ark and he couldn't help but chuckle a little when he thought about that comparison.
The both stared each other for a while as Hunter now stood in the same way the other boy did, a few feet of grass seperating them as they scrutinized each other. „Hello!“, he repeated the stranger's greeting, both of them speaking with a healthy amount of scepticism in their voices. „I could ask you the same thing, I know there's no village closeby!“, he answered, sounding a little defensive as the Grounder sounded a little reproachful to him. One could argue that this region was probably rather the land of the other boy's people, but it wasn't like the kid himself had any claim to it and he couldn't accuse him of invading his space or anything like that. Hunter would have crossed his arms in front of his chest, a form of shield he'd been using for many years now, but his right armed was still badly burned from the Mount Weather explosion and his other hand had been injured in his fall from the Rover so he would only hurt himself more and could only let his arms hand by his sides as the other boy and him kept staring at each ohter.

Gena's words gave the younger boy a little hope back, although it wasn't at all easy to ignite that spark inside of him. Given the experiences made during his young life, he hardly had any childish innocence left inside his heart. He could only wish that her guesses would be true and their people would actually find them on the road back to their camp. With his injuries, he wasn't even sure if he could make it all the way back and he didn't want to burden the older girl with leaning on her since she'd been affected by the explosion as well.
He cradled his burned arm close to his chest as they made their first few wobbly steps down the slope of the mountain. Talking about mothers made him smile and his heart ache at the same time and he tried to think of a story similar to hers without dwelling too much on the worries he had regarding his mother. He scratched his head with his healthy hand and bit his bottom lip as he tried to think about a memory in particular. „She...would make up these little stories when she brought me to bed at night.“, he remembered with somewhat of a smile. „And sometimes, she would try to collect some extra points to get me a special treat.“, he recounted, looking a bit lost in his thoughts and forgetting about his pain for a moment. But with the good memories of his mother, always came the bad ones of his dad, as if they were catching a piggyback ride from them and the hint of a smile that had briefly illuminated the boy's face vanished again.

Since Hunter is so closed up and more of a loner, I'm looking for someone who can try to get him out of his shell. It would be great to have someone about his age who'd try to approach him in a relaxed and fun way, but it doesn't have to be a young character. I'd even be open to find a love interest for Hunter but that would have to be someone about his age of course
