whatever THE HELL WE WANT Bellamy was nervous. Not unsure for he held confidence in his decision, but that didn't mean it was going to be easy to tell his father. He knew that if he could, Kane would be among the others. But he couldn't be. They needed him. Bellamy wasn't so much needed in terms of his position. He would sacrifice his life in the name of the Kane family. For love. Because that was the greateast motivator of all. As he arrived at the council chamber, he casually stepped inside, seeing a few of the guardsmen, but fortunately, his father was alone as teh person he'd just been talking to was leaving.
"May I have a word with you alone?" He asked him. The formality in his tone came out of respect, but it was not as strong as it normally was. He was scared. He was just a person; only human. But he could swallow back that fear. He could set it aside. Because this was the right thing to do. His mother and father always instilled honor in him as he grew up. And it would be an honor to die so that his family could live. What greater more significant way to die was there? He wanted his family to stay alive. He wanted to protect them, with every breath in his body . . . including the last one he would draw.

The weight of over 300 was sitting on his shoulders, and Marcus Kane wasn't sure he would be able to push the button when the time came. He knew it had to be pushed, however, and he would do it if need be. He would do it for his family. His wife of over 20 years, and the son that was the center of his world. To protect them he would do anything. Even give his own life if needed. For them!
Marcus looked up when the said center of his world walked in and asked for a work alone. "Can you give me and my son the room," he told rather then asked the man around him. Once they were cleared Marcus looked up at his son. He could tell Bellamy had something he wanted to say, but Marcus wasn't sure what it was. Did he disagree with the culling? "Still no word from the girl in the pod." He relayed the news to his son. "We are thinking she didn't survive the crash in the old unit. We are making plans to move forward." The words were heavy, and made him feel tense, but his voice was sure . . . somehow.

whatever THE HELL WE WANT Bellamy continued to look at his father, taking a few more steps toward him as the men exited the room and gave them the requested privacy. Kane revealed that they still hadn't heard from Raven. Which meant, they still had no idea if the 100 were alive. No indication that Earth was survivable. Which led him to his next words . . . the plan was moving forward. It was still in motion. That meant that Bellamy's decision could not waver. And he needed to get right to it.
He just slowly nodded his head in acknowledgment of his father's words. He hadn't even realized that he was standing in front of him now. Nor did he realize that his hands were clasped behind his back, a stance that his Marcus often took, especially when coming to him as the vice chancellor, not as his father. He was his father's son after all. A few moments of silence ensued, before Bellamy got directly to the point. There was no need to drag this out. Neither of them were ones to beat around the bush. "I am here to sign my name for the culling." The words came out with ease, strength, certainty. It was almost as if he was simply volunteering to take a shift; not to give his life.

Bellamy stood there so tall, and it made Marcus so proud of the man he was turning out to be. He knew that if this didn't work that he might not see who that man was going to be, but he hoped like hell it did! He wanted to be able to see Bellamy turn into someone great. "I am here to sign my name for the culling." Marcus exhaled loudly, and then looked down at the floor for a moment. Bellamy's words causing him to feel as if the Ark stopped spinning for a moment.
When Marcus looked up at his son he knew he had to try and talk him out of this. "Bellamy, the people of the Ark are volunteering. You don't have to do this. They will need leadership and you are in a place where you could offer that." Marcus tried to use this as an argument, but he also knew his one and knew this wasn't something he had just thought up. "I would rather you didn't volunteer." Because he could not loos his son! Anyone but his son! "I am asking you not to do this."

whatever THE HELL WE WANT Bellamy watched his father's reaction, able to see it and hating the fact that his words brought forth this inevitable pain. But, it was also for his father that he was doing this. And that was something Bellamy could take comfort in. That he was doing this for his loved ones. He remaiend silent, not entirely surprised that his father would try to talk him out of it. He wasn't doing this to rebel or to teach a lesson. He was doing this out of the genuine desire to protect the people he loved.
Things had been a bit tense between him and Marcus ever since it was discovered that he was with Braeden. So he knew that what else he would ask his father for today . . . could just add to that, or perhaps allow them to make amends. But right now, he needed Marcus to know that he was serious about this.
"The leadership that they need, will better come from you." Not even the Chancellor. The people were closer to Kane than Jaha. It was Marcus who they went to, who they saw as the protector. Bellamy was his son, but he was no where in the position or authority that his father was. It was why Marcus could not be one of the people who gave their lives. He was far too needed here on the Ark.
"The people on the Ark need you." Kane could not be replaced. But . . . it wasn't even just that. Bellamy wanted his mother and father, his grandmother, and the woman he loved to all live. To have a chance. Hearing his father ask him not to do this, caused Bellamy's heart to ache. He forced his emotions down, forced the expression on his face to remain steady. He just ever so slightly raised his chin, trying to remain strong in this moment of defying his father's plea. "My mind is made up." His tone didn't suggest otherwise. "I volunteer."

"The leadership that they need, will better come from you." Marcus could agree with that, for he was more of a publicly known figure, but he also saw in his head at how his son could become twice the man his father could be. And he had so desperately wanted to see that! "The people on the Ark need you." No, Marcus needed his son! "My mind is made up." "I volunteer." Marcus didn't look away from his son this time, only walked forward, feeling desperate and a bit of panic. "I forbid you do this. I will not loose my son, when everything I have done was for you." The words didn't come out as an order, more more of a plea--which wasn't something that Marcus was used to hearing from himself. He never begged for another, but he would beg his son now if that would change his mind. He knew it was unfair for him to ask this of others but not be willing to give up his own son--but he could not do this! He could not give up so much! Not and be strong for his people afterwards. He wasn't sure how Jaha was doing it after the loss of his son!

whatever THE HELL WE WANT Bellamy stayed frozen in place despite his father's advances. Marcus' words nearly broke his heart; hearing him forbid him . . . yet knowing it wasn't as vice chancellor. It was as a father. He wasn't ordering him, he was pleading. And Bellamy felt the guilt of his father having to be forced to say this. But that still did not change his mind. It only fueled the pain he already felt in his gut and heart over his decision. Having to say goodbye to those he loved. He inwardly took a deep, calming breath, showing no sign of it . . . but he knew his stoic, guarded expression was stating to waver. Starting to slowly crumble.
How could it not with his father standing there before him, pleading with him? Marcus was the srongest man that Bellamy knew. The man he admired most. The one who inspired him. "My father raised me to always do what is right and necessary. To serve and protect the people. Our loved ones." While on a grand scale he was doing this for the people on the Ark . . . but his decision was geared toward more so doing it for the people that he loved. "I am going to honor that now, and be the man that he can be proud to call son." It was time to step up. After what happened with Braeden, he was well aware that his father was disappointed with him. But he would remedy that now. He would make him proud by doing this. Because Bellamy was so very proud to have the honor of calling him father.

"My father raised me to always do what is right and necessary. To serve and protect the people. Our loved ones." He didn't like that answer, but only because it made him both proud and made him sure there was no way to talk his beloved only child from this. He recalled when Bellamy had just been a baby. He had never thought then about his future with any detail. He had been so sure that he would get to see it, and experience it with him. Now he knew that there was no chance of that. "I am going to honor that now, and be the man that he can be proud to call son." "There has never been a moment, when you were not the single most loved person for me here on this Ark." He loved his wife, but Bellamy was his son. "Nor one when I have been more proud of anyone then yourself." Marcus wanted him to know
Marcus stepped forward once more and lifted his hands to Bellamy's face to touch him. He didn't like this. There was only one more thing to say to try to stop this. He had to try once more. "I will go volunteer. I would rather give you the change to live, and have your own son; then to loose you because of my own mistakes in underestimating this." And that was how Marcus saw this whole thing. Because he failed to help solve this, because he didn't push hard enough to get the council to not wait another few days--so many more had to die.

whatever THE HELL WE WANT Bellamy felt a slight tremble in his lip when his father spoke of how he was the single most loved person; that he had never been more proud of anyone. He felt his heart swell with pride and honor, but also be stricken with grief and pain. It was such so bittersweet, knowing that his actions could help save lives . . . but not wanting to put his father through any pain of losing a son. The words meant the world to him, and Bellamy knew they would be among the few memories that he would think of when the oxygen was taken from the room. It was these such things that he would draw his strength from.
"And there is no man that I admire more, nor would be prouder to call my father." Than him. He encompassed so much for Bellamy. He was his role model, someone that he aspired to be like. They had their challenges, but never once did Bellamy feel anything less than loved. He was lucky. So damn lucky to have the family that he did, and to be loved by the woman he was. The touch of his father's hand on his cheek filled his body with warmth, the paternal love being felt with this single gesture. But his words numbed that. A slight panic started to fill Bellamy at the thought of losing his father. He knew it was hypocritical of him, but he couldn't allow his father to do this.
He wasn't going to let him in that damn room. "No." Just, no. Bellamy moved the hand on his cheek, gently pulling it away but realizing he didn't let it go. "The people here need you." That was all there was to it. "They look to you for guidance, for leadership." Not the Chancellor. The Chancellor enforced the laws, but it was Marcus who inspired the people. It was Kane's face that they saw. "If you die, that hope dies with them. Do not forsake them. This isn't your mistake. Show them that, by being there when you will be needed most." This wasn't his father's fault and he hated hearing that he took responsibility for it. But that was the man that he was. And as Bellamy had acknowledged and stated, he admired everything about him.

Marcus knew he spoke true words, but no parents wanted to hear reason when the life they were debating was their child's. He didn't want to hear about how others needed him when the one he needed was his son, and it was his son that was offering to die so others may live. Marcus could feel the panic at knowing that his time with his son is limited. No parents should have to out live their child, and knowing that his son would be dying made the pain greater then a sudden death.
Marcus gave a nod of his head, before pulling Bellamy into an tight embrace. He held his son to him tightly, and thought of all the times that he held him as a boy. How each time had been special and cherished but they were all not this hug--for Marcus knew this one was one of the last. That soon this would be only a last memory.
Which made him hate how they had spent the last bit of time between them. In an unspoken awkwardness between them because of the girl that Bellamy had decided to love. He would give everything to go back and change things, so that these days were filled with time sent honoring his role as Bellamy's father--with laughter and soon time, rather then how he had been. "I am not going to stop trying to change your mind." Marcus warned, though by now they both knew there was nothing he could say or do to stop him. "But nor will I waste this time. Not even a second."

whatever THE HELL WE WANT The second Marcus put his arms around him in a hug, Bellamy immediately returned it. His arms wrapped tightly around his father as Bellamy squeezed his eyes shut. Oddly enough, this made him feel stronger. Made him feel calmer. He felt like he was that small boy, a child who would go to his father when he felt scared . . . not wanting to admit it because fear was weakness. But his father never made him feel weak. He always comforted him when he needed it. Bellamy figured it was always that unspoken knowledge; Marcus knowing his son was scared but never made him feel like a coward.
Right now, reminded him of all those childhood instances. Bellamy was that small boy right now, seeking the comfort of his father in his fear. Marcus told him that he was going to try to change his mind, but that he would not waste any time. Bellamy forced a smile, a breathy laugh, though it was short and not entirely jovial. He drew his head back, forcing a bit of a smirk on his face. "Good luck. I get my stubbornness from my father," he said a bit teasingly toward Marcus, as Bellamy attempted to bring the conversation to a ligher note. Though, it would be impossible he imagined. His expression sobered a little though, knowing that before they could move on, he needed to ask something of his father. The source of it was a bit of a spot of tension between them . . . but Bellamy had to ask. He needed to.
"There is something that I would request. A favor." This wasn't his death wish, but something that he hoped his father could grant him. Bellamy paused for a moment, looking at Marcus and gathering the courage to ask him. "Braeden said that she is going to volunteer for the culling." But this wasn't something Bellamy could let happen. "I can't let her." He couldn't go in there with the knowledge that she was there too. She had the rest of her life, and it wasn't her time to go. "Help me stop her. Please." It was a plea. He knew he couldn't fulfill his father's plea, but here he asked him now for one. To save the life of the woman he loved.

"Good luck. I get my stubbornness from my father," Marcus somehow managed a short, humorless laugh at his son's words. Bellamy pulled back, but Marcus wasn't ready to let him so, so his hands stayed on Bellamy's arms. "I think you are like your mother in that aspect, then your father." He said fondly, with a bit of sadness. Had he told his mother? He didn't have to think to know the answer--Bellamy would have come to him first, knowing his mother would need Marcus' support afterwards. "There is something that I would request. A favor." Marcus tightened his hands on Bellamy's arms, and nodded his head. How could he deny his son anything? Now when Bellamy was facing giving up his life for the people he had sworn to protect--for his mother and father. He could ask Marcus to rename the moon and he would try. "Braeden said that she is going to volunteer for the culling." Marcus' hand loosed on his son in surprise. Braeden knew he planned to do this. It wasn't a question. Bellamy had not said so, but Marcus could read between the words his son spoke. He had gone to her first--a testament to his love for the woman. One that Marcus had given doubt to, and thus caused the strain between father and son.
"I can't let her." And yet, Marcus was supposed to let his son go? "Help me stop her. Please." Marcus' hand fell from his son, as he looked at Bellamy's face for a short moment before speaking. When he did it was not with the words that Bellamy might want to hear, at least it wasn't a no. "I remember that I used to joke with her father about the two of you. We never could tell which of you were following the other, or which was the leader. We thought one of you would surely follow the other into hell . . . . how right we were. I should apologize for the way I spoke to you about her. I should have known better. Both as my son, and an officer you have done nothing but be honorable. I was afraid for what it would do to your career, and I wish now more then anything that I could take it back. That we did not have these days are the ones that would stand strongest in our memories."
"I would give you anything you asked for, but I am not sure that I could stop her if I could not even stop you. What would have me do?" He had tried talk to Bellamy, and short of locking him in a room he wasn't sure how to get him to not do this.

whatever THE HELL WE WANT Bellamy was glad that his father managed a changed expression, even if it was extremely short lived. "Maybe a combination of both," he said in the same tone, managing a compromise of both. He was a Kane, and a Blake. And he was damn proud of it. He awaited his father's response about Braeden, unsure how he would react. Though his firstly spoken words in answer were not ones he had expected. He didn't know that Marcus and Braeden's father spoke of such things. It was on secret that they were friends, and they had practically grown up together.
He then apologized, for how he had handled discovery of Braeden and Bellamy's relationship. He didn't blame his father for how he reacted. It wasn't exactly the way he had wanted him to find out . . . but he also didn't know when the right time would have been to tell him. It was a delicate situation, yet one that didn't apepar to cause any more tension between them . . . as Bellamy's time here was far more limited that any of them would have expected. Bellamy just remained silent, the words meaning the world to him, hearing of his father's apology and approval. "I love her." He needed to tell his father that, if he didn't already realize it. "I'm sorry that you found out the way you did." Bellamy knew that he had to take responsibility for this.
"I never wanted this to be a source of tension between us. But I hope the future will remedy that. With you and her." That they would get along. It was another unspoken request, that his father look out for her where Bellamy would no longer be able to. He then directly asked what he could do, knowing he couldn't even stop his own son. This was where their -- mainly his father's -- position came into play. "Station guards to contain her and keep her situated in her apartment." They had the man power for it, and Bellamy would make sure she was not alone either. He planned to send one of his closest friends in there with her so that she wouldn't have to be by herself -- whether she wanted company or not.

"I love her." Bellamy hold his father, and Marcus felt more guilt for the things that he had said that day. Had someone said such things about Aurora, he would have punched them. Especially in his younger days. "I'm sorry that you found out the way you did." Yes! When he had found her . . . on his son's lap. Awkwardly. "I never wanted this to be a source of tension between us. But I hope the future will remedy that. With you and her." Marcus knew what he was asking here, and he also knew he wasn't good at opening up to others. His son was in love with the girl, and he would try but he also knew that he and Quinn were the the types to just spend time together and bond. "Station guards to contain her and keep her situated in her apartment."
This was what surprised Marcus. Enough that he begin thinking slightly outside of the father role,a nd more at the role he served in. "You want her under house arrest?" It was with in his power if he had cause, but he also had spoken to Braeden's father and knew the man's plans. "She would be unable to go with you or her father to the door if I did that. Is that really the only way you know to so this?" Marcus reminded him, and then felt the dread of knowing that he would have to walk with his son down that same hall, and walk up it without him. It wasn't a thought he was taking lightly--it was one he was dreading with everything he had in himself.

whatever THE HELL WE WANT Marcus questioned that he wanted her under house arrest, saying that she wouldn't be able to go with him or her father to the door. Bellamy preferred that rather than her going through the door which would most likely be what happened. "I spoke to her father," Bellamy explained. He had told him of his plans, that Braeden was planning on signing her name, and her father explained that he was doing this for Braeden as well. The two had come to an agreement when Bellamy proposed this plan . . . for her father also did not want her in there, and had easily acecpted her not being present on the other side of the door.
"She wouldn't go to the door. She'd get through it, and neither he nor I wish for that to happen." He had informed her father of his relationship with her, his feelings for her. He had to, in order to gain his support in this matter. "It's the only way right now, the most effective and all we have time for." Bellamy didn't want ot make a grand deal out of it. It would only take a couple of guards to ensure she didn't go . . . and that was it. "Will you grant me this request?" He asked, hoping his father would. Hoping that Braeden would live, like the rest of the people that Bellamy loved.
