DON'T UNDERESTIMATE THE LIONESS | SHE HUNTS AND SHE NURTURES; SHE IS THE HEART OF THE PRIDE | TAGGED @vero
| Shadow Valley was Yujleda's greatest source of conflict; with harsh warriors right on their borders, fights were common even under the coalition- or the attempt of one. Savannah was used to being camped out near the border, but the boredom of waiting for something to happen was downright crippling. They had attacked a village nearby, so the warriors were here for when they returned with strict orders not to cross into their land. They were defending... but that was incredibly boring... She leaned against one of the thick based trees and slipped an apple out of her pack with eyes wandering over who she had fighting by her side. Most of the warriors were from nearby villages and she didn't know them... but she saw Vero. He was a close friend and would no doubt make the minutes pass quicker. She wandered over to him and took out another apple from her pack before holding it out as offering. "Are you as bored as I am? I say we slip away," she teased as she leaned against a nearby tree. They were rather far from the other posts but one of the closer men made her snicker. He was downright asleep against a tree trunk. "I see he's got the right idea," she mused moments before her peripheral vision caught movement.
Her lips drew back in a hiss as she turned and made eye contact with an armed scout on his own, hiding out in one of the trees that was hardly covering him. He was far; well past the border, but close enough that Savannah was sure she could catch him. Against orders, she took off like an animal and dropped her pack and apple where she stood. Of course she expected Vero to follow... She could take on a scout by herself, but she doubted her friend would allow her to venture into enemy territory without aid. She wasn't worried and only thought of catching the scout; questioning him and seeing what their plans of attack were. What had he seen? She didn't think he'd have any friends nearby. Her feet moved light and fast across the rough terrain and as she drew closer she pulled out her daggers. Her breaths were animalistic with her teeth bared; more like a creature than a warrior. Finally within reach, she threw one of her knives with deadly percision; landing it in the scouts calf.
"I'll rip your fucking heart out!" she snarled as she reached down to grab the scout by his collar. Before she could touch him, a knife was pressed against her throat from behind. Her hair was tugged back, exposing more of her neck for slicing. When she actually took a moment, she realized there were eight men. She'd never wished Vero was on her heels more than ever. "Jok of!" she snarled as she slammed her elbow into the enemy behind her. With a quick movement, she slit their throat and searched the woods for Vero. |

blood and battle
ARE ALL I HAVE EVER KNOWN
Vero smiled as Savannah approached. In this time after battle, he always appreciated the sight of the others, seeing who survived. And Savannah, being one of his closest friends . . . well, he presence always brought him relief. He took the offered apple and gave a nod of thanks as he bit into it, setting down the rock and dagger that he had been sharpening. "And I say we exercise caution. It's not safe to venture far." With the distance between camps and safe places for their people. He knew Savannah's restlessness all too well though. And only hoped he could distract her with conversation long enough to let the temptation to go ebb away from her thoughts. He looked over at the warrior sleeping against the tree, and smirked with amusement.
"Maybe you should do the same," he teased, since he knew she clearly wasn't tired. When he turned to look at her again, he caught the tail end of what had happened. A figure in the distance, only to have Savannah join him. "Savannah!" He called out. But to no avail in attempt to stop her. "Jok of!" He cursed, leaping to his feet. He dropped the apple and pulled out his blade, racing after her. He didn't even have time to inform the others or to wake them. His priority was Savannah, as he charged after her. Her swiftness through the darkened woods making it difficult to find her. Curses replaying over and over in his mind. By the time he caught up to her, the sight before him left him winded, and made his heart feel like it stopped beating for a second.
Fortunately, she reacted quickly, elbowing the man and as Vero approached to aid, another attacker came out. He raised his sword just in time to block the attack, the metal clinging, battle cries echoing. Vero managed to slice the man's chest, causing him to fall to his knees before he stabbed it again directly into his heart, gripping the man's shoulder and releasing so that he would fall to the ground. Another came at him, and he spun around, using his brute strength to shove the man back against a tree as hard as he could. He took the hilt of his sword and slammed it into the man's face a couple of times, enough to release the entanglement of their swords where he sliced open the warrior's throat. He spun around, his eyes desperately seeking out Savannah to make sure she was alright.
He clearly hadn't learned. The first distraction had been looking at the sleeping man, allowing her to get away. The second, was distraction by looking for her . . . and not yet clearing their surroundings. It became blatantly obvious why this was not good when he felt something stab into his thigh, causing Vero to yell out in pain at the strong impact of the blade into his flesh. He swung his arm, fist slamming into the attackers cheek that spun him around to the ground, as Vero lowered his sword into the man's head.
Once he rid himself of that particular threat, he pulled out the blade and tossed it to the ground, clutching his hand over the wound. The threat was not completely neutralized. After a quick count, there was eight of them, yet Vero could barely walk at the moment. Instead he waited for the other to come to him, sword raised, as he blinked a few times, his chest heaving and determined to stay standing . . . somehow. "Joken fechas!" He was definitely going to have words with Savannah after this, but right now, he needed to focus on getting her out of this, alive. If only to kill her himself.
