CLOSE YOUR EYES MY DEAR | |
I'VE GOT YOU HERE; IN MY ARMS YOU'RE SAFE FROM HARM | |
TAGGED @tomac | Tomac, the chief of Talulah’s people had fallen dangerously ill. A rider had come for her at her home, as their healer was gone, aiding the scouts. Her reputation as a budding healer was far greater than that of her once teacher. She’d only just returned from Polis, where she had aided three natblida children through a deadly fever.... it had opened her eyes; given her a thirst for travel and more learning.... but now, she needed to serve her people. When she had gotten to his home, Tomac was barely conscious. They wasted plenty of time, and part of her wondered if that was his guardians or his own stubbornness. He’d been hit with an arrow in the right shoulder and instead of caring for it the chief probably tore it out and kept fighting. Now, it was riddled with infection that had spread through his chest. The healer from their village probably left it alone when they realized it wasn’t poisoned... but anything was poison to the body if it wasn’t taken care of correctly. For hours, she’d been cleaning the wound and changing the dressings with various flora that would fight the infections. Most of all, she worked to keep his fever down with cool cloths soaked in water and seaweed. It had been a few hours, and there was some improvement. She could bring a man back from near death if she had to... it was what she was known for... but that didn’t mean she wasn’t angry that he’d waited so long... Respectfully. He was their leader after all... She traced his forehead and pushed his hair back gently as she sat on the edge of the bed; eyes roaming over him. He was attractive, but that was not a new realization. She’d always thought that of him... He never really addressed her. She wasn’t a warrior, nor the village healer. She wasn’t important, really.... though that was slowly changing. Lusting after, or at least admiring their wodaheda was almost disrespectful. When she was younger, her mother would chastise her for staring... and now she had him half naked in his home. Well, knocked out cold with both exhaustion and sedating herbs burning in the corner...but still. She let out a small sigh as she traced the curve of his face; her thumb trailing along his bottom lip lightly. She knew it was inappropriate but for a moment she was transfixed.... but she pulled her hand away and reached down to grab another cloth from the pitcher of water. Open eyes startled her as she turned to rest the cloth against his forehead. She stood up with wide eyes. “Wodaheda—I... Are you in any pain?” She was quick to snap out of her embarrassment and rested the cloth across his forehead. She probably had nothing to worry about, but still... “My name is Talulah... you have an infection from your wounds... They asked me to take care of you while our healer is gone... I'm learning form them." She didn't feel it necessary to say that she'd learned all she could from them... that she'd been studying on her own. This wasn't the time for gloating. |
