Jasper was a hero. So brave. So strong. Fearless. He killed a grounder and everybody was abuzz about it. He even got a bigger tent for it... good for him... but Levi thought it was stupid. No surprise there, Levi thought everything was stupid... though this time it was the way he gloated. Levi had no sympathy for grounders and knew that one day they would all be killing them, or be killed by them, but the way Jasper prattled on about how in the moment he was... it was annoying. He believed Octavia’s side of the story far quicker than he believed in Jasper’s heroism... but what got him where it hurt was the way some girls were after him. Harper, a member of Bellamy’s militia, a girl who was truly brave enough to stand up and protect the group was after him. She was better than that... not that Levi liked her or anything.
She was pretty, funny and smart... she was too good for Jasper. Maybe if he hadn’t gloated so much Levi wouldn’t have such a low opinion of him. He wasn’t sure... but when he saw Harper go into Jasper’s tent he couldn’t help scoffing to himself with annoyance. He wasn’t jealous. He was annoyed. There was a difference...
But then she left... minutes after. Not even five had passed and she left the tent with a defeated look that made Levi’s jaw drop in disbelief. He rejected her. How in the hell did he think that he could do better? Jasper had a thing for Octavia, he knew that, everybody knew that... but after killing a grounder did he really think he had a shot? Levi slipped off the wooden perch where he sat and followed Harper until he was walking beside her. Part of him wanted to make sure she was alright but it didn’t come out well. “Didn’t go well I take it?” He asked in a playful tone. “Don’t blame yourself. You’re probably too much for him to handle.”

This is my Fight Song--TAKE BACK MY LIFE SONG, PROVE I'M ALRIGHT SONGWith how confident Harper had felt walking into Jasper's tent, she couldn't believe just how...dull she felt now. It was hard to describe just how much it hurt to be rejected by Jasper of all people. The guy who was a hero now, yes, and of course that was part of the reason why Harper had suddenly come to notice him in that way but he was also the dorky guy she'd known on the Ark, and smoked with whenever Monty wasn't around to keep him company. Jasper had flirted with her before, she could remember the time clearly and remember with how young they both were and just how much she wasn't interested. She'd appreciated how brave the guy was but that was about it. Now, though, he was rejecting her. Was it some sort of payback for what she had done years ago? If it was, Harper just...
Her head down and her spirit low, Harper moved one foot in front of the other as she moved away from Jasper's new and larger tent. In that moment, she couldn't care less about his tent or him. At the same time, she wanted to run back in there and try again. If she didn't know Jasper as well as she did, didn't know that he was set in his ways, that he wasn't going to just change his mind about her, she might have tried again. For now, she would go back to her own tent, take a few minutes out before she went looking for something to do. What she didn't want was what she got: Levi. Harper felt her eyes rolling and her legs readying to speed up before he had even spoken.
So when he did speak, she was ready to pick up her pace. "Thanks, Levi," Harper said, her voice dripping with sarcasm. Of course he would see her walk out of the tent and be there to annoy her. It wasn't that Harper hated Levi or anything, she would call him her friend but at the same time, he could be a total pain in the ass. Keeping her eyes down at the ground and not even thinking to look up at Levi, she spoke again, "What do you want? To tell me that I'm 'too much to handle'? Because I've heard it and you can go then." Now she did look up at Levi, her face showing just how unimpressed she was. There were times Levi was great to have around, this wasn't one of them. She would rather have Monty talk to her, and she'd never thought of him to be helpful when it came to dealing with emotions. Levi Kazuto || She's more grumpy about this than I expected. |

He'd underestimated how badly she'd reacted to Jasper's reaction, and for a moment he felt guilt when he saw her irritated expression. Though his expression flickered between pity and false amusement, he was struggling to find anything playful to say. There weren't really any sarcastic retorts that fit, so instead he let his folded arms drop before raising his hands in teasing surrender. "Alright, alright it was rude," he said lightly as he walked with her. "I just think that you're too good for Jasper on his best day... When all this passes and people stop worshipping him you'll be glad you didn't stoop." Levi had trouble being nice without putting anyone else down, but it was the only way he really knew how to raise somebody up. It wasn't that effective, but that didn't mean he would change his ways.
"I didn't mean to offend you, Harp-- really." The sincerity behind his tone was real and couldn't possibly be faked, but he could understand why some people would ignore it. After all sincerity wasn't his strongest suit. "He doesn't know what he's missing out on... He's got an inflated ego. He'll regret turning you down... Just don't let him get away with it." Wouldn't that be great? Jasper comes around and suddenly decides Harper's good enough for him after all. Some chicks liked that kind of thing. It was idiotic.
"Are you okay?" His brow was quirked as he examined her expression; hoping that he hadn't upset her more than she'd already been upset.

This is my Fight Song--TAKE BACK MY LIFE SONG, PROVE I'M ALRIGHT SONGHarper didn't expect that anything good would come from Levi's mouth, just more teasing and all the usual to expect from him. So when he said something that sounded almost nice, Harper's surprise was obvious. Her eyebrows pulled together and her mouth paused half open as she found herself unsure of what to say. "It was rude," she said after a moment, using his words, making sure he did know that. But then, "I'm too good for Jasper?" Her voice showed both how confused she felt at the comment, but other emotions seeped in as well. Gratitude at the words, a sweetness that wasn't often used around Levi at all. She looked down at her feet for a moment as she continued to walk, before she looked back up at Levi. "Are you okay? Didn't hit your head or anything? Maybe we should get Clarke to look at you." Harper was teasing, well, sort of. Maybe she should have really been worried that he'd hit his head.
"Are you sure? Because it definitely sounded like you did." He sounded sincere but Harper really couldn't find it in herself to trust that, or to deal with Levi when he was, well, Levi. Still, she wasn't getting away from him yet. Even if it was him, Harper did want some sort of company. Levi wasn't always annoying and he was her friend, as much as Harper sometimes found herself thinking otherwise. Maybe she needed to cut him a little slack, although it would have been so much easier if he hadn't been being his usual self. "He's probably just still bitter about me turning him down on the Ark," Harper said, realising only once the words were out that telling Levi that may not have been the best idea.
Harper didn't want him to have more reasons to make fun of her, even though he sort of seemed like he might have been done with that. For two minutes maybe. "And why shouldn't I let him? Once he gets over whatever thing he's doing by saying no." Somehow, Levi telling her that she shouldn't let Jasper change his mind only made her want that to happen more. Maybe if the words had come from the mouth of someone else, like Monroe for example, her reaction might of been different. Or maybe she just really had her hopes on Jasper. She just rolled her eyes as Levi asked if she was okay. "Fine," she told him. Finally she stopped walking and turned to face Levi completely. Taking in a deep breath, she looked up at him. "I'll be fine," she said, her tone softer. "Is there something you wanted? Am I needed somewhere?" |
