Let me know if you'd like anything changed about this starter! I'm heaps excited for these two to thread!! (: The new arrivals in Mount Weather had caused a stir to begin, an obvious curiosity building in the residents of the Mountain. At least, that's how Isaiah saw it. From the first sight of them in the mess hall, Isaiah knew he was going to investigate them in some way. The old curiosity in him came back to the surface, reminding him of the days when he explored the Mountain and found all the secret places. Or when he would sneak into agriculture as his interest in that grew, curious to see how it worked and to watch the farmers do their job. Now, he was curious about the new members of the Mountain's population, wanting to know more about them other than the fact that they had lived in space and been on the Outside. He wanted know about the people and even more so, about those places they had lived.
Unsure of where to begin in terms of actually talking to the new people, Isaiah decided that reading up on things might be a good place to start. On space, particularly, since he was sure he had already read every book about the Outside already. He'd read them all twice, really. Isaiah had never held less than a healthy need to know what things were like outside of the walls of Mount Weather, and that was feeding into his need to know about these new people. Isaiah walked through the aisles of the library, familiarity at the sight of the books on either side, behind glass to keep them preserved better, but still able to be clearly seen. He looked over all the books that were about space, looking for something that might be about space stations, rather than just the stars and planets.
He took a few books out as he looked, flipping through pages and skimming over words until he was sure it wasn't the right book. After a while he got annoying but honestly, also surprised by just how many books the library held on space. But then he came across what looked to be the perfect book and reached out to open the glass so he could take it to read. Another hand reached out at the same time, getting there before him and opening the small door. "Sorry," Isaiah said, the words mumbled. It was only when the younger man went to take the same book Isaiah wanted to read that his voice got louder. "Hey, I was gonna read that book." Isaiah didn't like confrontation and probably wouldn't have made the effort to say something if he didn't feel so pressed to find an ice-breaker for talking to the people from space. |

Curious is my middle name |
words: tag: Isaiah Riggs notes: haha, don't worry it's great! I know, it's going to be exciting. |
It might have been the new arrivals that rekindled Alastor’s desire to learn more about the world outside of him. These people had lived up in space and outside Mount Weather. As far as he was considered, none of his people could set foot outside for reasons not disclosed to them. Not at least not any him or any of the other children were aware of. And that's where this thirst of the unknown had been created. Where it was once the ocean and mountains, it had diminished and was now replaced by thoughts of outside and space. He couldn't help but wonder what it would feel like to live the life they had-- to live in space. What an experience that would be. Whether he admitted verbally, or not, his growing curiosity for the new arrivals couldn't be satisfied by mere glances afar. He wanted to move past that and talk with them, to ask them about their experiences and how it was like to live in the places they had.
Considering he spent a majority of his life cooped up here, the only thing Al wanted was to learn more about the world outside. Granted, he couldn't experience it himself.. he could only live through the experience by words stories alone. That had been his main motivation for searching through several shelves of books and gathering a few that were of his liking. A majority of those books consisted of space and the world outside. While Al did read a great deal of the books here in the library, it was always nice to read through the books after the first read.
It was through this small wandering of the library that Al found himself moving closer to the glass case containing one of many space books. To be precise, it had been one that he had yet to read through. For a brief moment, he almost missed the older male beside him, reaching out for the same book in the glass case. Ironically, it might have been the fact Alastor was too caught up with his thoughts that he had only acted out of instinct. He merely reached a hand out and unlocked the small door connected to the glass case. "Oh, sorry." The fourteen year old spoke, his gaze flickering over to the older male for a moment. Maybe it had been the fact they were both reaching for the same book previously that he found in his hands currently. Mulling over his choices, Alastor turned his attention over to him before glancing at the book once again. "We could share the book if you want to read it too." He suggested, an uncertainty in his voice. A quick glance at the books in his hands was all it took for assumptions to begin popping up in his head. Almost immediately, his expression had turned into one of wonder and curiosity. "Are you interested in those new people too?" Alastor questioned hurriedly.

He got Iah's attention pretty quickly! XD It really wasn't until the other guy spoke that Isaiah realised he was more of a boy than a man. That definitely had him feeling bad for wanting to insist that he get the book. Isaiah paused, actually taking notice of him. He did look young, honestly, he couldn't have been any older than sixteen, although Isaiah doubted that he was even that old. Other than that, honestly, the kid didn't look any different to most of the other people in the Mountain. Well groomed, nice clothes, and no sign of freckles on his pale skin. There was no doubt that this was another resident and not one of the new arrivals to Mount Weather, which was a good thing for Isaiah because he knew he would have already made a bad first impression. Most of the time Isaiah tended to be a little more polite.
Smiling down at the kid, Isaiah shrugged. "Sorry." Honestly, Isaiah wouldn't be annoyed if the kid wanted to read the book more, Isaiah just got determined and focused when he put his mind to something. And that something happened to really involve reading the book on space stations. He could read it later or the next day, it wasn't like the new people would just disappear overnight. They weren't visiting. The kid, however, made the most obvious of suggestions. Isaiah's smile brightened, hoping to stop the uncertainty that the kid obviously felt at the suggestion. It was definitely the one that would make them both happy. "Yeah, we can do that," Isaiah said, hoping he sounded at least somewhat encouraging.
Isaiah was about to suggest they do that, go find a table and sit down to look at the book together. He was shutting the door to the glass cases that the books were kept in when the kid asked him a question. Now that made sense, the kid wanted to read the book because of the new people in the Mountain. The exact same reason that Isaiah wanted to read it. It really did make sense, since Isaiah couldn't have been the only one interested in them. Nothing new ever happened or arrived at Mount Weather and so things could honestly get pretty boring. This had to be the most interesting thing to happen in Isaiah's life time. The same could probably be said for the kid. "Yeah, I am." Isaiah glanced around the room, seeing an empty table up against a wall. He gestured to it as he spoke. "Want to go sit down, chat, and look at the book?" he offered. |

The Sky was Ironically, it might have been Alastor's height that led others to believe he was older than he looked, despite the boyish features he still had. Maybe it wouldn't hurt if he decided to drop the polite pretenses for once, formal speech wasn't something he was trying to make into a habit after all. As he pushed the thought aside, he gaze flickered over to his newfound companion, almost wondering if he had seen him somewhere before. Considering, how small of a community Mount Weather was that had to be the case. The only question was figuring out where he had seen him before.
While he was still a tad apprehensive about the older male, the fourteen year old found his guard lower when he spotted the smile on the other's face. Shaking off his thoughts, he offered a small smile back in return moments later. "No, it's fine. I'm sorry too." He apologized, all too aware that he had been a bit hasty in retrieving the book himself. Besides, there was something pleasant about someone else searching for the same book. Despite having a few friends his age, he hasn't met anyone remotely interested in the sky or anything dealing with the outside world. That might be a bit of a stretch. There were a few who were interested, but they weren't heavily invested in the tales the textbook described as much as he was. "Great!" Alastor pipped up, a bright smile settling on his lips. "I did pick up a few more books dealing with space stations earlier too, if you wanted to look at those."
Considering the numerous visits he made in the past month to the library, Alastor hadn't spotted many people making trips to the library. The only people he had seen was the usual small crowd of people that visited throughout the week, hardly anyone new. It didn't seem far fetched to think the older male in front of him was interested in the new comers as well. Of course, his only clue to this assumption had been the space station book he was reaching for a few moments ago. While there was a lot of interest concerning the new group that arrived, there wasn't much verbal excitement going on about them. He didn't see any point in hiding any curiosity concerning the teenagers the guards had found earlier in the week. Perhaps that explained why Alastor found it so easy for him to crack a smile once he heard an answer to his question. "I thought I was the only one." Alastor lightly joked, before turning his gaze over to the table he gestured to. "Yes, that would be great." The answer had been a quick one. There was no need to over think it, especially when an opportunity like this one didn't pop up often for him. "I'm Alastor, by the way." He hurriedly stated, almost forgetting to introduce himself. | NOTES: Sorry about the delay! Haha, Al is definetly eager to talk about the topic more. Aah, I didn't even realize I had a diff. theme for Al. |

Sorry this reply took so long! My muse died in December. Isaiah appreciated the apology the kid gave and accepted it with a smile and nod. The kid was a lot more polite than others around his age, that was for sure, and it was nothing but a good thing in Isaiah's eyes. It wasn't as if it had been a big thing, but a small apology from them both cleared the air and almost brought some humour to how they'd both been rushing to get the book for similar reasons, if not the same reason. Isaiah was extremely glad to find another person as interested as he was in the new people and getting into the books to research the topic of space. There obviously weren't many, if any, other people doing that same thing, shown by the few people who were in the library.
While reading was one of the few fun things that could be done in Mount Weather, not many people hung out in the library a lot like Isaiah did, and there weren't any more people than usually could be found in the large room.
As the boy mentioned having found other books about space stations, Isaiah's face lit up even more. "I'd love to, can never read too many books." The feelings the boy had about thinking he was the only one were familiar to Isaiah, while there had been a couple of small conversations about the new people with his friends and his family, it was otherwise quiet on the topic. It sometimes felt too quiet and Isaiah really had begun to wonder if other people knew something he didn't that kept them from being as curious as him. "Same, but thankfully we both really want to read this book," Isaiah teased.
With a quick and positive reply to Isaiah's suggestion of where they could go to sit, Isaiah started off towards it, turning his head back after a couple steps at the sound of the boy introducing himself. "Nice to meet you, I'm Isaiah," he said, deciding it wasn't worth holding his hand out to shake, not with how young Alastor looked. Isaiah walked over to the table and sat down on one of the chairs. If he wasn't sharing a book with someone else he would have more likely sat in one of the comfortable armchairs or even on the patchwork beanbags (which were only like they were because of the amount times holes had to patched). Once Alastor was sitting as well and books were on the table, Isaiah asked the question he was dying to ask, "Have you talked to any of them yet? You'd be more around their age than me." |

The Sky was Considering the polite nature and manners Alastor had grown up with, it only seemed natural to go around in a polite manner. Besides, there was no point in getting upset for someone else reaching out for the same book. After all, the brunet did have a hand in reaching for it around the same time the older male did. While it was true his mind was briefly distracted currently, Alastor couldn't help but find the situation rather humorous. It wasn't often that someone would find themselves in this situation. He couldn't necessarily remember a time where he encountered someone else reaching out for the same book. It was a nice feeling to find someone else who was just as interested as he was in the new people that had arrived.
Perhaps that was the reason why he was stirring with excitement at the given moment. Alastor couldn't remember the last time he could discuss a novel or even a topic that he was interested in. This could be his shot to finally talk to someone about this.
With all the time Alastor spent in the library, it wasn't surprising that he would find another book concerning space. "Really?" He flashed a grin, "There's quite a few here." His fingers lightly drummed against the cover of one of the books in his possession. It would be fun to speak about this with someone else. With excitement coursing through him, he couldn't prevent his smile from widening any further from Isaiah's teasing remarks. "You're right about that." He agreed, nodding his head.
As the two had walked over to the table, Alastor had went ahead and introduced himself-- almost forgetting to introduce himself for a second there. Walking over to the table, he was quick, and careful, to place his own books onto the table. Having them fall over on the table wasn't the impression he wanted to make, after all. Once the books were carefully placed on the table, Alastor had taken a seat near Isaiah and reached over for one of the books. "Ah, not enough to have a proper conversation, unfortunately." The brunet mused for a moment, lips drawn in a brief smile. "Have you talked to any of them yet?" | NOTES: I'm so, so sorry about the delay.
