Bellamy had been looking intently at Bryan's face, watching any flicker of a reaction to his words. And that was when he saw it; a hint of a smile. It started the relief to slowly creep into Bellamy, only to be flooded in when Bryan told him that it wasn't a no. And offered to start over. That . . . made Bellamy feel like a weight had been lifted. He knew that this wasn't fair to Bryan. That it wasn't fair to Octavia. She was locked away and here he was, trying to find some semblance of companionship. Trying to find someone who could make his heart feel lighter; and add a little light into the darkness.
"I like the sound of that," he said with a bit of a nod, making his intentions to stay clear as he pulled out his chair and seated himself across from Bryan at the small table. "What are you reading there?" He asked, figuring it was an innocent enough question. Nothing overly intense. Casual. Small talk. Getting to know each other . . . with no strings attached. He felt grateful to Bryan for not giving up on him; for allowing him another chance. Bellamy didn't get those often and so already felt immense gratitude toward the younger male for giving that to him.

Bryan felt his shoulders relax as Bellamy sat, his smile growing a little at Bellamy's words, though his expression was still a little hesitant. When Bellamy asked what he was reading, Bryan huffed an unamused laugh. "It's a repair manual for one of the machines in the garden. Obviously, we have mechanics and engineers for big problems, but it's always better if we can fix small things on our own," he said. "As I'm sure you can imagine, it's a thrilling read." He pushed the book closed. "I just came here because it's quiet, and I'm sure my parents need time away from me as much as I do them." His smile went a little more genuine as he said that.
He looked over to see if Bellamy had any books he'd picked out. "What brought you here? Looking for something historical you haven't already read?"Tag: Bellamy Blake

Bellamy listened to Bryan explained what he was reading, the older male's nose slightly scrunching at the sound of what book he had selected. Clearly, it was work related rather than for leisure. Bellamy quite easily recalled those days of studying. Of having a higher purpose, better goals. Now . . . there was nothing to aspire to. He wouldn't have a clean record and supposed he'd forever remain a janitor. "Makes sense," Bellamy agreed, in regards to them fixing the small things on their own, so that they wouldn't have to external assistance every single time. It would slow things down.
"Need me to quiz you or anything?" Bellamy joked, just trying to keep the mood light, especially at the mention of parents. He knew that when his mother was alive, he too had sometimes needed a break from her and his family. Now, he regretted every second he wasn't with them because he needed some time to himself. "It's nice to take a break from family," Bellamy agreed, masking his own pain at the mention.
For right now, he would give anything and everything to have them back in his life. Bellamy gave a slight huff of amusement when Bryan asked if he as here to find something he hadn't read before. "Pretty much. Thought I'd try to read something new. Any suggestions?" He paused for a moment, nodding to the book Bryan had. "Except for that one. Unless I need a cure for insomnia." He didn't sleep well, but it was easier to joke and tease everything off, rather than delve into the truth of his words and reality of his situation.

Bryan snorted softly when Bellamy offered to quiz him on what was in the book, but he didn't reply, knowing it was just a joke. For as much as Bellamy said on their first date that he would be interested in Bryn's job, even Bellamy knew this was the sort of subject that could put anyone to sleep.
Bryan nodded when Bellamy mentioned that is was nice to get away from family. "Doesn't matter how well you get along; close quarters are enough to drive anyone crazy," he said. He got along with his parents better than some of his peers, but they were still only human.
Bryan actually chuckled when Bellamy asked for book suggestion, indicating he didn't want to read the one Bryan had in front of him. This was starting to feel more relaxed again, easier to do. Bellamy even seemed to be engaging in the conversation more. "You sure?" he teased, pushing the book a couple inches toward Bellamy, his expression amused. "What do you like to read? Besides history."Tag: Bellamy Blake

Bellamy slightly clenched his jaw at Bryan's words. They were true, though he also knew that one never realized just how much they appreciated their family or loved ones . . . until they were gone. "I can imagine," Bellamy said, keeping his tone leveled to remain consistent with the conversation, rather than get into anything about his own grim recent past. "It's good to take a break every once in a while. What better place to do that than the library." Because as Bryan had said earlier, it was nice and quiet.
A great form of escapism. Bellamy frequented it now, more than ever, just needing to be somewhere, anywhere outside his apartment alone. A flicker of amusement crossed his features when Bryan teased him about the book, inching it toward him. "I'll let you know if I ever get that desperate," he joked. He thought over the question of what else he liked to read. "I'm not that picky," he admitted. "What books do you read for leisure?" Not this technical crap. "Maybe I'll take one of your recommendations," he suggested.

It was interesting that Bellamy said he could imagine what it felt like to want space from his family. He lived with someone, considering his apartment had two beds, so he didn't have to imagine. Though Bryan remembered vaguely thinking the apartment looked un-lived in, almost too empty, before Bellamy walked up behind him and kissed him. God, it had felt so good to kiss Bellamy, right up until everything went south. Maybe Bellamy's place was transitional for some reason, but Bellamy them brought the conversation back to the library and books.
Bryan didn't miss the amusement that flickered in Bellamy's eyes when Bryan teased him. Bryan almost thought his lips twitched a little, but he wasn't certain he was imagining it or not. Encouraged a little, Bryana laughed again when Bell said he'd let him know if he ever got that desperate, and the smile didn't fade as Bellamy continued to speak. This was going way better already that Bryan expected when Bellamy approached him, better than probably their first date, maybe because Bellamy was more invested now.
"I read a lot of science fiction and fantasy. Some horror." Except ghost stories. He hated ghost stories, but Bellamy didn't need to know that. "It's hard to go wrong with anything by Bradbury."Tag: Bellamy Blake

Bellamy could listen to Bryan laugh all damn day. It was so refreshing, and further helping put Bellamy at ease. Then again, Bryans presence seemed able to do that from the very beginning. Bellamy just wasnt letting the non committal, physical part of it taint the moment. "Maybe I'll check those out then," he stated, wanting to learn more about what Bryan liked. Wanting to experience it first hand, realizing his interest in the male.
"Ive read the same books way too many times anyway. Should probably branch out a bit." How wonderfully unfamiliar; to talk so casually about books. "Do you have to be anywhere else tonight?" Bellamy asked, wondering how much time they had. Bryan had seemed fairly settled when Bellamy saw him but he also wasnt sure how long he had been in here before Bellamy joined him.

Bryan couldn't help but be pleased that Bellamy said he might check out the books Bryan had recommended. He hoped Bellamy would like them if he did. It didn't really matter, in the long run (should there be a long run), if they liked the same books, but it felt nice that Bellamy was interested in what Bryan liked, and it would be something they could talk about.
"I've got time," he said, when Bellamy asked if he had anywhere else to be. His parents wouldn't worry, as long as he wasn't too late. He'd never given them a reason not to trust him on his own before, and he didn't plan to. "If you're serious, we can always see if they have any of them here," he said, gesturing to the stacks to indicate he was talking about going to find Bellamy something different to read.Tag: Bellamy Blake

Bellamy glanced at the pile of books, listening to Bryan's offer of seeing what they had here. "Let's check them out," he said, pushing his chair back to a stand up and take a look at what the library had to offer when it came to the discussed genre. Besides, Bryan said that he had time which left the rest of the day fairly open to just casually spend some time together.
Whether this could be considered a second date or not, it was certainly an impromptu one. Bellamy started going through the stacks, one by one, trying to see which would capture his interest, or even be remotely ralated to the ones they had been discussing.
"Is there one that's your all time favorite?" Bellamy asked him, figuring that could give them a good starting point. "With the limited books we have, there has to be at least one you've read a ton of times." For Bellamy, it was the Iliad and the Odyssey. But that was for quite personal reasons, yet didn't shift the fact that it was his most favored reads.

Bryan followed Bellamy into the stacks, and couldn't quite help smiling again that Bellamy actually was interested. "Fahrenheit 451," Bryan answered when Bellamy asked what books Bryan may have read many times. He stepped in towards Bellamy, maybe a little closer than he would have stood next to someone he wasn't trying to date. He recognized the book immediately by the colors on the spine and pulled it out.
"It's about a future, on Earth of course, where all books are burned. Firemen exist to burn them. But one day, one fireman meets a teenage girl that changes his perspective." He shrugged, flipping the pages absently against his thumb as he looked up at Bellamy. "It's dystopian, if you like that sort of thing. I know a lot of people don't." When Bradbury wrote this novel, he probably would have said Bryan and Bellamy lived in a dystopic future. Bryan had stayed out of trouble, but he'd seen and heard things, he knew how the Ark operated, and thought 'dystopic' was probably appropriate for their society. He didn't blame people who'd rather not read that in their leisure time.
