Someone who just gave up? Raven flinched at the words. No she wasn’t someone who just gave up. But since arriving it seemed like the ground was trying its damn well hardest to push her to do just that. Like every day she had to fight just to survive. What sort of life was that? She’d lulled herself into a false sense of security when they’d expanded Camp Jaha into Arkadia with relative peace for a while…they all had. There was no such thing as safe. No such thing as secure.
But then that’s why they needed her. Raven and her weapons…Because even though there was more of them than us and it was likely those grounders would eventually just kill them all. Raven wanted to make sure she took a piece of them with her. Perhaps Nina was right. Maybe she shouldn’t give up so easily. Of course…she’d never admit that out loud to her. So with a loud and deliberate sigh Raven reluctantly reopened her bag and held the broken remote in her hand, slowly lowering her body down to sit on the rock she’d almost broken her foot on. “Fine…”
Some of the exposed wire caught her eye. Maybe if she just changed their arrangement, fiddled with the circuitry to adjust the wavelength…this wouldn’t have to be such a lost cause. “You just gonna stand there all day, here take this,” she asked…or well told Nina, offering her the bag. The poorly hidden hint of a smile on her face however showing the obvious change in subject and her demeanor. Raven wanted to get past that moment of vulnerability and get back down to business. “Careful with that,” she added as a gentle tease. “Got all sorts of dangerous toys in there.” With that, she poured all her concentration into fixing the remote, taking a small pair of tweezers out of her jacket pocket. Always be prepared…
“Okay I’m only gonna try this one more time…” she said, finally getting up after hopefully fixing the remote. “Take cover…” she said taking a few more steps back before crouching, though Raven couldn’t really keep her eyes off the small mound in the middle of the field.
3…2…1...“Here goes,”
….With a push of a button the bomb almost immediately exploded. The force of it knocking her back a bit. But it was noise she revelled in…that ‘BOOM!’. It was just as satisfying as she’d hoped it would be. “Now THAT is what I call an explosion.” She yelled, standing up. Her expression was one of arrogance, but Raven didn’t care…for that tiny moment, nothing could wipe that smug grin off her face.

everything will change; nothing stays the same nobody here's perfect, but everyone's to blame The sound of a loud sigh leaving Raven's lips caused Nina to look over at the girl, a quirked eyebrow on her face. She waited to see what she would do; waited to see if her words had gotten through to her. She didn't want to push her luck but Nina knew she was right. She knew that Raven wasn't someone who gave up and she just hoped that it was now something she could see. The bag dropped and Raven sat down on the rock so she could look at the remote in her hands. Nina did her best to suppress a grin at her obvious triumph, but was having a hard time doing just that. It had been the kick in the ass Raven needed, and now she was already back to trying to fix this bomb she had made.
Seeing that Raven was already back to her bossy-self, Nina held back a chuckle. Taking the bag from the girl, she looked through to see what Raven might need. However, at her other comment Nina couldn't help but to laugh out loud. "Oh I'm sure you have plenty of toys," she said with a suggestive tone, wiggling her eyebrows at Raven. At her own comment, she laughed again, despite how lame it might appear. Nina watched as Raven worked on the remote, pulling a pair of tweezers from her pocket. Huh. Well if Nina ever needed to do her eyebrows she knew where she would go. Raven told her to take cover and Nina backed up and Raven soon stood by her side. The pair crouched down next to one another and Nina prayed that this would work. She wans't sure she would be able to berate Raven into her old self again.
An explosion echoed throughout the clearing and Nina almost fell backwards, seeing as she was crouching on the balls of her feet. A huge grin covered her face and she looked over at Raven. "You did it!" She yelled in satisfaction. She lightly punched her friend on the shoulder. "See? I told you. Idiot." She rolled her eyes at Raven's little pitty party only moments ago. Standing up, Nina placed her hands on her hips and looked on in satisfaction at the wreckage Raven had just caused. "Now we just need some live bait," Nina said with a grin. |
