whatever THE HELL WE WANT Logic was one thing, adhering to it was an entirely different matter. But something told him that Nina took in his words; really took them in. The thought of permanent damage wasn't appealing to anyone. Bellamy knew just how difficult it was to accept an injury, but the fact that straining it may result in the wound never healing . . . well, it was a frightening enough thought to force compliance. "That almost sounds like a compliment," he said a bit teasingly in reference to her remark about how his logic was annoying.
He knew they hadn't been on the best of terms ever since the morning after their . . . well, whatever one would call it. Their very heated reunion perhaps. But Bellamy hated being at odds at her; and hated himself even more for burdening her with his presence. Yet, the desire was slowly outweighing the rationality of that. "No where in particular. Was just checking on those in medical," he revealed. "Have you eaten?" Another necessity that sometimes people tended to neglect, and he wanted to make sure she was taking care of herself . . . even though he knew it wasn't his place to do that. The offer was there in his words, should she wish to take him up on them.

OR He'll say he's just not the same and you'll begin to wonder why you came She snorted at his comment and shrugged her shoulders. She supposed it was a compliment, given that logic was something that was considered a positive trait in people. Nina never would have considered Bellamy to be a logical person, if asked to describe him, but in this moment he was giving her words that she needed to hear, even if she didn't want to. Nina nodded her head as he explained that he was checking on people in medical. She had never told him, but she thought he was a great leader. He didn't care about the power so much as he cared about his people. And it showed that he cared because he did the things that some leaders might not, such as checking on people in medical after a battle. It was certainly something he didn't have to do and Nina admired that about him. But she kept her comments to herself, still unsure as to where they stood with one another. They hadn't talked much since their reunion on the ground and Nina partially blamed herself. She shouldn't have gone into his tent that night but her mind had been pushed away in that moment, only listening to her heart and her desires.
His question made her think about the last time she had eaten something. For the life of her, she could not remember. She didn't feel hungry but knew that she should probably try to eat a little something. Shaking her head, she glanced over at him. "Honestly, can't remember the last time I had something to eat." It wasn't like she was doing it on purpose. She had just been so preoccupied with everything going on and her shoulder. "We can grab something and eat it back in my room if you want?" So we can talk. The words were unspoken but she had a feeling he would understand why she had suggested the privacy. But he could say no and it would be fine. It just gave her further indication on whether he wanted to be near her or not.

whatever THE HELL WE WANT Bellamy knew that many people's appetites had suffered in the wake of the trauma they were experiencing. All part of the aftermath of the horrors they had faced. And yet, he still felt that compulsion to ensure that they were taking care of themselves. Or that, he could at least try to take on that role for them. Even if it was doing something as simple as ensuring they had a meal. Like right now. He couldn't heal the psychological wounds that could very well scar them . . . but he would do whatever else he could within the realm of his capabilities.
So if this was the only way to make sure that Nina ate, well then damn it, he was going to do it. "Sounds good," he agreed, leading the way to where they would be able to get something to eat. Rations were more generous down here, but still quite limited. It was one of the many things they needed to do in the weeks to come -- even though experts from Farm station were still missing, they had enough people from all fields to get them started. "At least the food's better here than what we were eating at the dropship," he said, in attempt to lighten the mood with a subject that wasn't as intense as majority of the others. He knew he would need to talk to Nina; that they both had a lot to talk about. But it was better done in private, when they got to a more secluded location.

OR He'll say he's just not the same and you'll begin to wonder why you came Nina kept the surprise to herself. She wasn't really sure what she had assumed in terms of Bellamy's answer to her offer. He had been the one to bring up eating, but she had been the one to push it in the direction of her room with the possibility of talking. There were many things he could have said to further delay their conversation. Hell, he could postpone their conversation until the end of time and they would never talk. Talking had never really been their strong suit, at least when it came to feelings. They talked like normal people but Nina had never pushed him to open up about his feelings. She had never been one of those girls to force her boyfriend to tell her what was on his mind and how he felt about absolutely everything. Knowing what she knew now, she guessed that it had probably been the saving grace for their relationship. Maybe she had just been an escape for Bellamy so that he could forget about his sister hiding under the floor and his mother breaking one of the biggest laws the Ark had.
Walking by his side, Nina and Bellamy walked towards their little mess hall they had created. More often than not, people were found drinking at the tables and stools. It wasn't an unwelcome thought, now that Nina was thinking about it. Drinking away her pain and suffering for at least one night was more than appealing. Perhaps that would be her night after she ate and attempted to have a conversation with the man standing next to her. Nina hummed in response to his comment. Food at the drop ship had basically been twigs and berries. They had eaten like the scavengers that they were. Eventually they had created a meat house where they could smoke any hunts they brought back, but it had taken some time to get to that point. Nina was definitely glad to be rid of the wild onions that had been a huge part of their meal plan while at their camp.
Nina walked into the mess hall and went towards the small line of people that had formed near a few tables. On the tables sat various pots filled with food Nina knew not to question. People were serving the food in portions so that they would have enough for everyone. Grabbing her bowl, Nina waited in line and moved along with the people until some food was put into her bowl. It didn't really look appetizing but she knew she couldn't complain. Hopefully it would taste better than it looked. Nina quickly stuck the tip of her pinky into the bowl and put it in her mouth to get a little taste. It wasn't that great but nothing that couldn't be fixed with a little salt. They had no salt on the Ark but a group had found some in one of the many caves. She wasn't sure how they knew the mineral was edible, but it had been a saving grace for a lot of their meals. Nina picked up the spoon in the salt bowl and sprinkled some salt, or more than some, over her food. Once out of the line, Nina waited for Bellamy to finish getting his food. Her eyes wondered over the people sitting down at tables. For the most part, everyone looked happy. They had their kids back from Mount Weather and everyone was safe now. People had injuries but that was nothing compared to the possibility of death that constantly loomed over them.

whatever THE HELL WE WANT It seemed evident by her lack of response that Nina didn't feel like talking. Or if she did, perhaps it was reserved to the privacy of her room. So Bellamy too remained quiet. Talking was not necessary for him; he didn't thrive on it nor feel dependant on it. Not in certain situations. He wordlessly took the offered bowl, speaking to the one who was serving briefly, checking on how many rations they had and whether they were well stocked or would need to get more.
Everything seemed stable based on the exchange. They would have to hunt soon enough, but at least there was no emergency shortage of food. Thanking the food handler, he took his bowl, not wanting to eat too much. His appetite hadn't exactly fully returned and he'd rather save it for the others. Besides, he was used to eating smaller portions.
On the Ark, they had been receiving two rations to feed three people. And then following that, his own rations had been cut as part of his punishment for aiding the concealment of an illegal sibling. Food was not something Bellamy needed an abundance of. When he had a bit, he went to where Nina stood, giving a small nod, and glancing around the room to make sure everything was stable and organized, before turning to exit.

OR He'll say he's just not the same and you'll begin to wonder why you came Nina couldn't hear the specifics of what Bellamy was discussing with the person behind the food table, but she assumed it was to make sure everything was running smoothly. Nina usually tried to think about where she could help out, but her mind had been so busy since coming back from Mount Weather. Everyone seemed to have taken care of things just fine while most of them had been gone and she was thankful for that. But she had a feeling that they would have to try hunting soon, now that they had all of the delinquents back and they were more mouths to feed. Not that they were a burden; Nina was more than thankful that they had everyone back. But even with rationing, at some point they would run out of food. "Everything good?" Nina asked. If it wasn't, she didn't really expect Bellamy to tell her about it. It all came down to his underlying need to protect everyone and while she sometimes found the notion sweet, it often annoyed her. Nina didn't like being shielded from the truth, even if it was only to spare her feelings. Whenever someone did something to protect someone else, it almost always came back around to slap them in the face. Hiding things never ended well. But in this instance, it was a small detail and Nina had already prepared herself to hear that everything was fine. Even so, she would make a note to double check with people in the kitchen to see how they were doing on meat.
Leaving the mess hall, Nina and Bellamy walked down the hall and towards her room. She carried her bowl in one hand and her other hand hung limply by her side. The silence between them would feel awkward to some, but not to Nina. She was used to silence with Bellamy and it had never really bothered her. She had never been one of those girls that felt the need to fill every single silence with unimportant words. She was perfectly content with silence. Nina approached the door to her room, unlocked it and stepped inside. Her bed was pressed against the wall and she sat on it, resting her back against the wall. Nina began to move her spoon around in her food, realizing that she still wasn't hungry. When was the last time she had eaten something? Had it been that long ago that she couldn't even remember? "I'm glad you're okay," Nina said, finally breaking the silence. "When I found out you went into Mount Weather alone, even though we're not together or even really friends I . . . I don't know. The idea of not even getting to see you again didn't sit well with me," Nina confessed, looking down at her food the whole time, as if she was having the conversation with the food and not Bellamy. |

whatever THE HELL WE WANT Bellamy gave a nod at her question, asking if everything was alright. They silently made their way to her room, though it didn't feel like an uncomfortable one. It was quite the opposite in fact. Especially since nothing needed to be said right now. And if it did, some conversations were better had in the privacy of one's apartment. Bellamy stepped in after her, closing the door behind them as he moved to a chair set at the table, though pulled it a little closer to the bed. Sitting on the bed with her seemed . . . he wasn't even sure. With how they had left things, there were certain boundaries he was not sure he had a right to cross anymore.
When she started speaking, Bellamy paused, his heart swelling at the sentiment of her words. Expressing that she was glad he was ok, that the decision to go in there didn't sit well with her. He didn't want her to worry about him, and yet, the fact that she did . . . well, he was human. He couldn't deny the comfort it gave him. That Nina cared enough about him to be worried for him -- he couldn't really blame her otherwise. His mind never forgetting the way their relationship had ended. Or even the lack of closure it was given until they reached the ground.
He remained silent for a few long moments, his gaze on his food before finally raising it to look at her. "Well you don't have to think of that idea anymore," he offered. Because he was here. And he knew how painful it could be dwelling in the what ifs of the past. "Appreciate it though," he added on, trying to force out a small smile though knew he failed miserably, the lack of joviality in his gaze. Especially after what he had to do in Mount Weather. Smiling, didn't exactly come with ease. "I'm glad you're ok, Nina," he added on. Relieved, that she wasn't one of the victims of this war against either Grounders or Mount Weather.

OR He'll say he's just not the same and you'll begin to wonder why you came She wasn't sure if she was thankful that he sat in the chair across from her instead of with her on the bed. Part of her saw the act as a way for him to distance himself from her. But the other part wasn't really sure what she would have done if he had sat on the bed with her. Because try as she might, she still cared about him and she hated it. It was her weakness, and she knew it. She was that pathetic girl that couldn't get a stupid guy out her head, no matter how hard she tried. But now with her confession out in the open, he had the power yet again. He could brush her aside and simply finish his meal, or he could leave. Nina had to get out of her damn head. She was going to drive herself crazy. Well, crazier than she probably already was.
Finally looking up at him, she noticed that he had almost paused in place.'You should probably just run while you can' her thoughts said to him. Bellamy had too much on his plate to deal with her. Nina would just have to keep to herself and psychoanalyze something else. Pulled from her thoughts at their eyes connecting, Nina nodded her head at his comment. She didn't have to worry about him in that aspect, but this was still Earth. Danger lurked around every corner. And while he might be safe for the time being, there was no telling what would happen tomorrow or the next day. "But we both know that won't be the last time you put yourself in danger," Nina said, attempting to make her tone teasing.
Nina heard him say that he was glad she was okay, and while he instinct was to push the thought away, to tell herself that he was just saying that to be polite, she allowed herself to believe him. At least, for the time being. "Thanks," she said, nodding her head. Looking down at her food she put a bite into her mouth, knowing that it would only become less appealing if it got cold. But as she swallowed the bite, she realized she really wasn't hungry. She placed the bowl on the small table next to her bed and sat back against the wall. "Even though you might not think so," Nina added. "I still think you're a good person." Despite what had happened at Mount Weather. He had done what was necessary to save his people. This was war. |
