The First Time...

"It's hard to avoid this topic... Death is everywhere around us but some people recover faster than others from their relatives death..." Sae said, she didn't want Seren to blame herself for bringing this to the surface so she added "But we all end up accepting our loss... We just have to wait for the event or the person which will be the click..." she looked at Seren and smiled at her, feeling that Seren was this person, Sae was convinced that she was the woman who will make her feel better but she didn't know how to make her feel this.

Once again, when Seren's eyes locked onto hers, Sae wished that this moment lasts forever but Seren looked away so Sae was a little disappointed because she liked this moment and she was almost sure that Seren appreciated it too. Seren's reaction at Sae's words confirmed the latter one's thought, Seren seemed happy about Sae enjoying the time they were spending together which made Sae very happy. When she agreed to walk a little longer, Sae said "It's very hot... Maybe we can go refresh ourselves at the river, if you want to of course...". She didn't want Seren to feel like she had to go there.

Seren knew that the words Sae spoke were true, people grieved differently. When her mother died, her father took a long time to get over it, he became quiet and isolated himself, choosing to throw himself into his work and focus on protecting his people. During this time of grieving, he hardly acknowledged his children, even though they were grieving too and had just lost their mother. Seren didn’t hold this against him, she had been too numb after the sudden loss of her mother to pay much attention to the absence of her father, although now looking back on it she had to admit that the comforting presence of her father would have been nice considering the circumstances.

Seren liked to believe that she’d already accepted her mother’s death; she’d been quite young when she had passed and although she remembered it as if it were yesterday she only felt the slight pang of occasional grief, when she tried to remember the tiny details. Like how her mother smelt, or the way she held her when she woke in the middle of the night after having a nightmare, or the way she used to hum soft songs to settle her when she got scared. However when Sae looked at her instead of holding her gaze like she would with any other person, she felt as if she needed to look away, as if some unseen force was pushing her head down so that she was forced to look at the ground, a small smile on her lips. When the girl suggested that they go spend some time at the river to cool off Seren looked up again, intrigued with this proposal. It was a warm day and Seren often enjoyed spending time at the river on days like this with her friends and so she found herself nodding “Sure….” She muttered in acceptance, the day was only going to get warmer and the idea of the rivers cool, refreshing water was too good to resist.

As Sae spoke about grieving and then looked at Seren, she found that the girl seemed pensive so she worried of having said something wrong which was more than possible in a situation where grieving is evoked. "Are you okay?" Sae asked softly as she put her hand on the girl's arm to rouse her from her thoughts, hoping that she hadn't brought bad memories to the surface. Before Seren could answer, Sae continued "I'm really sorry if I brought some bad memories to the surface...", she felt like she needed to apologize.

When Seren looked away instead of holding her gaze, Sae saw the small smile on her lips and felt that Seren understood that she thought that she was the one, she was her click so she was very happy about that. Then, as she suggested to go to the river, Seren looked up again and Sae found that she seemed a little surprised about this idea but she accepted so Sae smiled at her and said "Cool! Then, let's go!" already walking in the river direction. Sae didn't like warm days and normally on a day like this one, she would have trained early the morning and then she would have stayed home all the day until the evening and its freshness but this day wasn't like all the others, it was a magical day, she had met Seren.

Seren flinched slightly as she felt the girls hand on her arm but forced a smile to reassure her that everything was fine "It's fine" she muttered as she looked at Sae and saw the look of concern on her face. "You haven't upset me, remembering is better than forgetting" she didn't want Sae to feel guilty for upsetting her when she'd done nothing wrong. "You don't need to apologise" there were often times when she'd lose herself in thought, but she didn't want Sae to think she'd upset her by mentioning the subject of death when death was a common occurrence in their lives.

Sae let out a small chuckle as Sae began to walk in the direction of the river, she seemed eager to get there and Seren didn't really blame her, it was an unusually warm day. Even when they were under the cover of the trees. Still, Seren decided to follow behind Sae at a slower pace, not wanting to lower her guard or get too comfortable. She was glad to be spending time with Sae and even going to the river to maybe relax a little, but that didn't mean that it wasn't dangerous.

Sae saw that Seren flinched when she put her hand on the girl's arm and for a moment she wondered if it was because she had scared her while she was lost in her thoughts or if what she said was that bad but she muttered she was fine so Sae smiled at her. At Seren words "remembering is better than forgetting.", Sae answered "True but remembering too much bring sadness and it can be hard to overcome it..." looking at the ground. As Seren told Sae that she didn't need to apologise, the latter one looked up at the girl "I'm glad to see I didn't upset you." she said blushing, she lost herself in her thoughts too sometimes.

Sae was very happy to go to the river, it was too warm in the woods, she needed to refresh herself but when she saw that Seren followed her slowly to stay on her guards, Sae became aware that she got too comfortable and let her guard down so she slowed her pace so she could be more careful and Seren could catch her up. She took a deep breathe trying concentrate herself to stay on her guards, to get ready to take her bow and an arrow and to shoot at any danger.

Seren didn't blame Sae for wanting to speak about death, it was common enough to find its way into any conversation, no matter how innocent that conversation could be. "I'd rather remember than forget" she added, her mothers death brought her pain but she'd rather live with that pain than forget about her mother. What Sae said was true, remembering could bring sadness but there were also happy memories, you couldn't just hold onto the bad memories, you had to remember the good times too.

She chuckled when she realised that Sae was copying her actions and choosing not to lower her guard. She had no problem with it if the other girl wanted to relax and go swimming, she'd be okay with staying at the edge of the river to keep watch for danger. When she caught up with Sae, Seren nudged her gently "I can stand guard while you swim if you want!" she offered, aware that it had been Sae that had suggested going to the river in the first place.

As Seren said that she prefered remember than forget, Sae wished she could be able to remember the good memories she had with her father but not to think about them as often as she did because it brought her more sadness than she could bear, she wasn't strong enough to overcome it. But seeing that Seren had overcame a part of the pain made Sae respect her, she was stronger and Sae wished she could become as strong as the other girl seemed to be.

When Seren proposed to keep watch for danger while she will go swimming, Sae smiled at her but as all she wanted was to go in the river with Seren, she answered "Come on! Let's go swimming together, it will be funnier!". She really wanted to spend as much time as she could with Seren and letting the girl stay at the edge of the river while she goes swimming and then reversing roles didn't seem to be a good way to spend that time but Sae was thankful that Seren had proposed this. "And I'm sure everything is going to be okay because there aren't much dangers here actually, nobody ever comes around here." Sae added trying to convinced Seren to go swimming with her.

Seren was cautious, she didn't want to lower her guard because that was when they could be caught off guard and since her weapons would be out of reach, they could quickly get into trouble with a predator or even a mountain man, although the latter was unlikely, she'd never seen a mountain man before and she doubted she ever would. "People might not come here often, but that means that animals might have more confidence in these parts" she warned Sae, unable to understand why the other girl was so calm about abandoning her weapons when doing so could cost her, her life.

However, Seren could see how much Sae wanted to go swimming and relax, Seren rarely got a moment to relax. She didn't want to disappoint her new friend and supposed that if something did happen, then at least one of them would be able to get to their weapons before things got out of hand. "Fine... I'll go swimming with you, but we can't stay long" she eventually told the other girl, her tone telling her that she wasn't kidding. A lot of things could go wrong and she was unwilling to let anything happen to Sae or herself if she could help it.

"Trust me, I usually come here and I’ve never seen any dangerous animal or people around." Sae said as Seren told her that animals could be more confident if people never came around and getting aware that Seren couldn’t totally trust her as they just met, she added "Our weapons won’t be far… I’m sure we are going to be fine.". Sae knew that she could seem so irresponsible sometimes when she had to deal with her emotions but things were cleared in her mind, and one of these things was that she wasn't going to let anything happen to Seren.

As Seren agreed to go swimming with her, Sae smiled at her new friend, "Great!" she said and as she noticed they were arriving to the river, she began to take her weapons in order to put them all on the shore. Once she put down her weapons, she took off her clothes only keeping her underwear and then she rushed to the edge and dived in the river. She stayed a moment underwater, the coolness of the river felt quite good on this warm day. When she went back to the surface, she looked at Seren and beckoned her to come "Come on! Water is good!".

Seren doubted that Sae would do anything to put herself in danger, but she also doubted that there would be no signs of life so close to a water source. If anything, they were more likely to see something near a river, everything needed water to survive and the river was the most obvious source of water nearby. However, their weapons would be nearby and at the first sign of trouble, she'd knew she'd be out of the water and holding her sword in her hand once again. "We'll be careful?" she asked the other girl, still cautious about actually lowering her guard enough to relax and go for a swim with her, but she'd said that she would swim with her and she wouldn't go back on her word.

When they arrived at the river, Seren watched first as Sae set down her weapons and then stripped down to her underwear and entered the water. She hesitated at first, taking a couple more seconds to look around the area, to make sure that there wasn't any obvious signs of danger, before she set down her own weapons. She heard Sae calling to her from the water and with a final glance around, she stripped down to her underwear and followed the other girl into the river, the coolness of the water at first made her shudder and wish that she hadn't agreed to go swimming but then she grew used to the change in temperature and actually smiled. "So you got me in the water, now what?" she asked the other girl, it wasn't often that she got to relax like this and lower her guard, it was often too dangerous to go swimming like this without having somebody on guard.

It was hard to make Seren lowering her guard which was a great thing for a warrior, but Sae will manage to do it. She wanted to see how the girl was when she could relax. That was why she had insisted so the other warrior would come in the water with her and just relax a little. "Of course we will... I promise I won't let anything happen. We just met, we aren't going to ruin everything already..." Sae answered as Seren asked if they will be careful. Sae truly didn't want to mess this up, she already had feelings for the other girl even if she wasn't sure she was ready to admit it. Maybe she just needed a little more time.

Once they arrived at the river and Sae had dived into the water, she looked at Seren as she was stripping down to her underwear. The warrior was definitely very pretty and right now, even if the archer was doing everything she could to control her emotions, they were growing stronger and she couldn't do anything about that. While Seren just got into the river, Sae could already see that the girl was beginning to relax which made her happier. But as the warrior was getting closer to her, a smile on her face, Sae felt her emotions taking over. The girl was so beautiful, a very cute smile on her pretty face, she couldn't lie to herself telling that she didn't feel anything for Seren anymore, she had to admit it. Emotions control could go to hell. So at the warrior's words, the archer's gaze just wandered down to her lips and as she just couldn't answer, Sae closed the distance between them one of her hands reaching for the girl's face while the other rested on her hip, and she kissed her softly, hoping Seren will kiss her back.

Seren didn’t know how Sae could be so relaxed and willing to lay down her weapons and go swimming, she’d agreed to go but it didn’t mean she’d lower her guard completely. It wasn’t wise to assume that the area was safe, because that was how people got killed. “Well… As long as you promise” she laughed, like that meant anything, promises wouldn’t keep them safe from the dangers that lurked in the forest. However, she had given her word that she would go swimming and she wasn’t one to break her promises, even if her gut was telling her not to go into the water and to keep hold of her weapon.

She watched Sae curiously as they drifted closer to each other, her legs gave the occasional kick as she tried to stay afloat without using too much energy. Seren knew that there was still so much that she had to learn about the other woman, all she really knew about her at that moment was her name and that she wasn’t as cautious when dealing with certain situations as she was. Seren was still waiting for an answer from the other second when Sae took her by surprise as she closed the rest of the distance between them and she kissed her. For a moment, Seren froze, taken by surprise before she began to kiss Sae back, bringing her hands up to rest on the other girl’s waist. She had thought that maybe one day it would be nice to kiss the woman, but she hadn’t imagined that it would happen this soon. Seren pulled away from Sae, confusion etched upon her face but she didn’t move to put any distance between them “wait…” she muttered, raising a hand to push gently against Sae’s chest to prevent her from attempting to kiss her again if she were to try “what’s happening here?” she asked her. It wasn’t that she didn’t like it or that she didn’t want to kiss her, but they barely knew each other and that was enough of a reason for her to question it.

As Seren said "Well… As long as you promise", Sae thought You could make me promise you the world and I’d do whatever it’d take to hold my promise and bring it to you… but she didn’t voice it or at least she hoped she didn’t. And as she knew that some people didn’t really care of the promises they could make to other people so a promise didn’t really mean anything anymore, Sae decided to reassure Seren by telling that she wasn’t one of these people "Just so you know, I always hold my promises." and she winked at the other girl.

Feelings still in control as Seren had kissed her back, Sae’s brain was totally shut off which prevented her from asking herself questions about what just happened but let her heart speak freely "You’re happening to my heart… you, your strength, your sweetness, your beauty…" Sae gently took Seren’s hand which was resting on her chest and placed it on her heart so the other girl could feel it beating for her "This is what’s happening…" Sae said looking back up to meet Seren’s eyes. After a little moment that seemed to have lasted an eternity in the bubble where the girls were and that let time to Sae’s brain to take back a part of the control and to make her realize what happened, the archer added "But I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have done this…" not that she regreted, she did like the kiss and she would love to kiss Seren again but she didn’t want to make the pretty girl feel uncomfortable.
