The First Time...

Seren found Sae's excitement confusing at first, she didn't know if it was the idea of training that excited the girl or the thought of training with her specifically. She watched as Arwen disappeared, walking back in the direction of the village and a peaceful silence settled over them. "Yeah... It could be fun, if you enjoy losing" Seren teased Sae with a smirk, the more she fought with the girl the more she would become familiar with her tactics until she'd be able to predict each move she made before she'd even made it. She'd noticed the look of surprise on Sae's face when she'd asked Arwen to leave them and it amused her "Are you afraid?" she asked the other girl as she looked around the clearing.

There was no reason to be afraid, Trikru territory could be a dangerous place if you didn't know what to look for but from what Seren could see, they were safe. Seren just enjoyed teasing the girl, she'd grown up with two brothers, that had taught her not only to stand up for herself but it also meant that she'd grown up and experienced a great deal of playful teasing from both of her siblings. As Seren turned her gaze back to Sae, she noticed that the girl was staring at her, their eyes met and she looked away quickly and uncomfortable feeling travelling up her spine "has anyone ever told you... That you have a staring problem?" she asked, her tone picking up a slightly harsher tone. She wasn't angry, just irritated really and she wasn't used to being stared at like that.

Sae loved the fact that Seren was teasing her, spare the rod and spoil the child as the saying goes. So when Seren asked her if she was afraid she answered "Should I? Because the only potential threat I see right now is you so I don't really think that I have a reason to be afraid even if you are a really good warrior!" and she smiled at her. She probably asked this question because of Sae's look of surprise when the girl asked to her mentor to go.

Seren's voice brought Sae back to reality and she realised that she was fixing the girl for a moment so the latter one seemed to be a little pissed off but Sae didn't mean to make her angry. "I'm sorry! I was looking to your beautiful eyes and then I got lost in my thoughts. I'm really sorry." she said blushing because she felt pretty uncomfortable. She usually never let her feelings show up but this time they gained the upper hand which wasn't necessarily a good thing for her. Sae thought that Seren was going to think that she was crazy whereas she was just very confused by the feelings she felt for Seren which were new for her.

Seren smirked at Sae as she spoke of having no reason to be afraid "Maybe you should be more cautious of who you trust" she told her, they were from the same clan and so it was safe to assume that neither would have the desire to harm the other but they didn't really know each other. They'd only met that day so it should be natural for the girls to be cautious of each other, but Seren did trust this girl,  there was something different about her. She didn't seem like some of the other seconds in her village, she was different.

At her words, Seren felt her cheeks flush with colour and she was forced to look away "Um, er... Thanks... I er, guess..." she muttered suddenly feeling all of the confidence drain from her body. Sae's words had caught her off guard and she didn't like how uncomfortable she felt now, never before had she been made to feel this way. She was vaguely aware that, that was supposed to be an apology for the girls staring but she couldn't acknowledge the apology, not at that moment. Eventually she managed to raise her gaze back to look at the girl who stood in front of her, hating how quiet she'd gone in her embarrassment "Do you make a habit of complimenting those that you've just fought?" she asked, the words came out sounding quiet and timid, Seren wanted to kick herself for how weak she sounded but the time would come later that she'd have time to internally scream at herself for making a fool of herself in front of this girl. If this was one of the girls tactics to throw off her focus so that Seren would lose their next fight then it was definitely working.

Sae was aware of what Seren about being cautious about who she trusted. In fact, she usually didn't trust people easily. She didn't even trust herself so how could she trust someone? But with Seren it was different, she gave off something that made Sae feel like she could trust her. Sae couldn't tell why but this girl who she only knew since that day had already gained a huge part of her confidence.

Sae saw she made Seren feel uncomfortable when she told her she had beautiful eyes and she blamed herself for that and for letting her feelings gained the upper hand. She had to think before speaking instead of letting her heart speak. She really didn't know what to say now because she felt like every time she said something it made the situation worst so she just stayed quiet trying to find something to say.

When Seren broke the silence which had settled by asking Sae about complimenting her opponents, Sae tried to answer with her head and not her heart "No, today is an exception... You're an exception..." She stopped herself here because she knew if she continued she was going to make Seren feel uncomfortable again if it wasn't already done and she didn't want that to happen. But in reality, she would have liked to answer her "Only when my opponent is as skilled and as pretty as you." but she couldn't say that... Obviously dealing with feelings was definitely not her thing.

Seren didn't really know how to respond to the girls words, she wasn't used to anyone speaking to her in this way and she could feel her cheeks burning as she listened. She looked at her feet, hoping that Sae would not notice the redness of her cheeks. She told her that she was an exception and Seren managed a timid smile. She was used to fighting physically with an opponent, those battles were easy to win but battling your emotions was a different struggle all together and it wasn't always possible. "Thanks... Your eyes are very pretty too" she muttered not looking up from where her eyes were focussed upon the ground, she knew that she looked like a shy child right now but she couldn't snap herself out of it and she didn't know if Sae meant her words or if she was just using them to get to her and to lure her into a false sense of security so that she could win their next fight.

Clearing her throat, Seren eventually raised her gaze to look at Sae once again, her eyes watching her cautiously "So... What do you want to do now?" she questioned her, hoping that they could just do anything that would break the awkward tension that was building between the two girls. She knew that Sae probably thought that she was stupid for reacting the way that she had to her words and she wanted to put it behind her so that maybe they could learn more about each other without emotions getting in the way of things.

As she saw Seren looking to her feet to avoid her gaze, Sae blamed herself for making the girl feeling uncomfortable. But even if she had lowered her head, Sae could see that her words made Seren smile, it was a little shy smile but it was a smile and it made Sae very happy. When Seren returned her compliment about her beautiful eyes, Sae was a little surprised, she didn't expect her to compliment her like she did andshe wasn't able to tell if Seren really meant that. "Thanks." she said feeling her cheeks blushing a little bit.

Sae could feel the awkward tension between her and Seren and she was now hesitating about her answer to Seren's question, should she just propose to go back to TonDC or should she stay longer with the girl to learn more about her and to let her understand that she really meant everything she told her. Once again her feelings won the fight happening between her heart and her head "I don't know... Maybe we could go for a little walk and just talk about everything and anything..." she was just suggesting and she didn't want Seren to feel forced to go walking with her so she returned her the question "What do you want to do?".

Seren noticed that the other girl was blushing as she returned her compliment and this made her confidence grow a little now that she wasn't the only one to show these signs of embarrassment "A walk?" she muttered almost to herself as she contemplated the proposal. What harm could a simple walk do? Both of them had their weapons and so they weren't in any real danger and Seren did want to find out more about the girl that she had been sparring with. Slowly she nodded her head "We could walk..." she said as she dipped her head in the opposite direction that Arwen had gone "we'll go this way" she had no intention of wandering back to Tondc just yet, not without finding out a little bit more about Sae.

As she led the way further away from Tondc, glancing over her shoulder to watch Sae "You wanted to talk about everything and anything?" the girl repeated Sae's words with a small smirk, getting over the shy behaviour that she had been displaying previously "what does everything and anything include?" it was a question that perhaps didn't make the most sense if you heard it but what Seren was really asking was what Sae wanted to talk about and what she wanted to ask her. She had many questions that she wished to ask Sae, herself but she'd allow the older girl to speak first as it was her idea to go for a walk anyway, if she hadn't made the suggestion then they would already be on their way back to their village.

As Seren was repeating her suggestion, Sae hoped she will accept to spend more time with her. And when she finally said "We could walk...", Sae was very happy, that was exactly what she wanted to hear and she was pretty excited at the idea of spending more time with Seren. As the latter one proposed to go one the opposite direction of TonDC, Sae got more excited than she already was, Seren really wanted to stay with her probably to learn more about her and there could be only two explanations for this, either Seren just wanted to have more informations about who she sparred with or she felt the same way Sae felt.

As Seren began to walk, Sae followed her being careful not to stay too far from the girl but not too close either because she didn't want to make Seren feel uncomfortable which is how you feel when someone you barely know is right behind you. So she was trying to keep this distance when Seren asked her about what she wanted to talk about Sae didn't really know where to start, there were so many questions she could ask to the girl but before she could answer Seren said "what does everything and anything include?" so Sae answer with a smirk "It include loads of things..." but she knew this answer wasn't what Seren wanted to know so since she still didn't know were to start, she decided to let Seren choose "I'm sure you have many questions for me so maybe I can begin by answering them... What do you want to know about me?" she asked her a smile on her face as she was now trying to catch her to walk next to her.

Slowing her pace so as to allow the other girl to catch up with her, she arched an eyebrow as Sae dodged her question and made room for her to ask the questions instead. Of course she wanted to know more about her and so the idea of asking the girl questions was not unappealing to Seren, but she'd been the one to offer Sae the opportunity to ask her anything she wished to ask and she had not taken that opportunity. "I'll make you a deal..." she ventured with a small smirk on her face "We'll take turns, first I'll ask you a question and then you can ask me a question and we can go from there" she told her, knowing that this deal sounded fair in her own ears and it would allow both of them to find out more about each other.

Hesitating briefly to allow her words to register with the other girl, she took a moment to search through her mind for an appropriate question to start with, searching for one that would not risk upsetting Sae. "You fought me with a sword today... Is that your chosen weapon to wield or do you prefer another?" she eventually asked, the words leaving her mouth slowly as she thought about how to word the question. She knew that many warriors had a chosen weapon that they preferred to use in battle and she wondered if the sword was Sae's preferred weapon, she fought bravely with it and obviously was skilled with the sword and so she was doubtful that she would prefer a different weapon but if she did then Seren was definitely intrigued to find out which weapon it was that she was most skilled with. If she was good with a sword, she was curious to see how much better she was with her weapon of choice.

Sae noticed that Seren slowed her pace so she could catch up with her so she smiled at the girl as she was getting next to her. As Sae let her an opportunity to ask questions first, Seren seemed quite surprised and she talked about a deal that Sae found fair so she nodded her head "Okay, sounds like a great deal to me." she said already trying to find a question to ask to Seren. She had to think of a question which won't make the girl angry or uncomfortable but there were so many questions she wanted to ask, which one could she choose?

Sae was still thinking about what her next question will be when Seren asked her if the sword was her chosen weapon. "That's a very good question." Sae started surprised because she didn't expected this question but finding it pretty interesting. "Actually, my favorite weapon is my bow. It's the weapon which brought me where I am today..." Tears rode her in the eyes as she was thinking about this day when she was just a little child, this day where if she didn't have her bow with her, there won't be only her father who will be dead but also her mother. This bow kept her from being an orphan. But Sae took a deep breathe trying not to let her emotions show up.

Now that she had answered to Seren's question, it was Sae's turn to ask one. "Why did you choose to become a warrior?" Sae said as it was the first question getting through her mind at this moment. She hoped Seren's story wasn't as sad as hers because she didn't want Seren to feel sad because of her but there were always reasons why people chose to become warriors and Sae was just curious about Seren's reasons.

"A bow?" Seren asked the girl, raising an eyebrow questioning she smiled, she had a certain level of respect for any warrior who could wield a bow seeing as she was useless with that particular weapon herself. "I never was any good with a bow, I prefer my sword, I have more control with it" she explained with a soft chuckle, she didn't doubt that a bow was a powerful weapon, it was when it was in the right hands but her hands were not the right hands. She would never have guessed that Sae used a bow, after all she had such skill with a blade and the two weapons were not exactly similar. She noticed the tears that seemed to spring to the girls eyes and instantly Seren became curious as to why such an innocent question made her emotional, but she didn't ask, some things were personal and she didn't enjoy prying into other peoples lives, especially if she didn't know that person particularly well.

'Why did you choose to become a warrior?' at the question Seren smirked "I'm afraid there's not much to tell" she sighed in response with a slight shrug of her shoulders "My father's a warriors, my brother is a warrior... It only felt right to follow after them and it's what my father wanted" looking around at the surrounding trees whilst she spoke, her gaze quickly returned to Sae "my youngest brother will also follow the same path, the life of a warrior is full of danger but it's also exciting, fighting is something I enjoy" she'd grown up sparring with her brother, watching her father leave to fight in some battle that was going on beyond their borders, being a warrior was in her blood and it was the life she believed she was born for. "What about you? Is there any specific reason that you chose to become a warrior?" she asked Sae the same question that she'd been asked, curious to see if they had different motives for choosing this life.

As Seren was surprised about her favorite weapon being a bow Sae let out a small laugh. This girl was definitely special because making Sae smile in a moment like this, when she thought about these tragic events which are her mother's attack and her father death, was a pretty hard thing but Seren did it. When she said her sword was her favorite weapon and she had more control with it, Sae couldn't help answering "Yeah, I had noticed that!" and smiling at Seren as she was recalling about her defeat which hadn't irritated her at all. Then, Sae saw that Seren noticed her tears and she was grateful to her for not asking more questions about what caused her pain.

Sae nodded her head as she was listening Seren's answer, so she became a warrior because everyone in her family was one. "That's a good reason." she said letting out a smile. But when Seren returned her question, Sae's smile disapeared, she closed her eyes taking a deep breathe and then opened them to answer "It's a long story but I'll try to be short. I wasn't really destined to become a warrior but one day when I was 6, my mother who was pregnant, was attacked by an Azgeda warrior but I wasn't far and I saved her by shooting the warrior so he ran away but the baby didn't survive. Since that day, my mother had wanted me to become a warrior but my father didn't, all he wanted was to get revenge which cost him his life..." Sae stopped tears running down her cheeks. She wiped them and continued "So my mother finally got what she wanted since my father wasn't here to say no anymore and I didn't want this to happen to someone else. Here's my story..." She looked at Seren tears still running down her cheeks but trying to let her know that she didn't blame her to ask this question because she couldn't know, but her look was also a kind of distressed look because in her heart, she still hadn't recovered from these tragic events.

Seren listened in respectful silence as Sae spoke about how she became a warrior. Hearing the emotion in the girls voice at speaking about her family, Seren instantly felt guilty for making her feel such pain. "I'm sorry about your father..." she muttered after Sae had finished speaking. She knew what it meant to lose someone after losing her mother at a young age. The fact that Sae became a warrior to protect her people so that history didn't repeat itself made Seren respect her more even if the reason why she chose the path that she did was because of a tragedy that took place in her life. "I know what it feels like to lose somebody that you care about, it must have been hard for you" turning to face Sae she could see the tears that now leaked from her eyes and her heart ached for the girl.

"I'm sorry that I brought all this to the surface, I didn't think my question would touch upon a sensitive subject" Seren's eyes locked onto Sae's and she let out a heavy sigh at seeing the other girl so upset. "If talking about it is hard, we don't have to talk about it... We could just walk" she personally found the forest to be quite calming but she didn't know if it had the same affect on Sae. "Or if you'd prefer, we could go home" she didn't want the girl to feel pressured to stay out there with her if she was upset and felt uncomfortable with where the conversation had gone.

As Seren told her she was sorry for her loss, Sae nodded her head to thank her and when the girl continued by saying that she knew how you feel when you lose someone you care about, Sae understood that she lost a relative too so she felt happy that Seren could understand her pain but also sad for her because like Seren said it was hard. It also increased the respect she had for the girl because she seemed to have recovered from her relative death or she was hidding her emotions very well.

When Seren apologized for bringing this to the surface, Sae who didn't want her to feel guilty answered "It's okay... You couldn't know. That's not something that you can see on someone's face.". When Seren's eyes locked onto hers, Sae felt a bit better, she would have liked that this moment lasts forever. When Seren talked about going home, Sae answered "No, walking will make me think about something else... Plus, I love being here with you...". Right now, all that Sae wanted was to stay with Seren because she made her feel better.

“True, but most people have lost someone they care about… I should have been more careful to avoid the topic” Seren explained with a sigh, the forest that they called their home had its fair share of dangers and it was rare to find somebody who had not experienced the loss of someone they loved. It was hard to find something to talk about these days without the risk of upsetting someone or touching upon a sensitive topic, sometimes she wondered why she even bothered trying to start a conversation with anyone if just by talking to them she could bring up bad memories that they’d rather leave in the past.

Flashing Sae a small smile at the girls words, she lowered her gaze to the floor once again as their eyes locked to break the eye contact that she wasn’t sure was welcome or not. She was glad to hear that Sae was enjoying the time that they’d spent together just as much as she had. “Okay… We don’t have to head back just yet, we can just walk” she agreed, her voice softening slightly “is there anything in particular that you’d like to talk about?” she didn’t want to risk upsetting her again, there was obviously a lot about this girl and her past that Seren did not know about and therefore there were a lot of opportunities for her to upset the girl.
