whatever THE HELL WE WANT She began to answer his question, speaking about how could be done if this was an infection. It started with making a fire. So that was the reason she said it was a risky thing to do. The next was cutting off the flesh and then cauterizing it. Bellamy would hate inflicting that sort of pain on her, but would do it if was a matter of saving her life. But she pointed out the risk once again, of being discovered by the Grounders.
Which risk was greater: the infection spreading or the Grounders finding them. Bellamy paused in a pensive silence, trying to determine how best to proceed. "How bad is it right now, Clarke?" It obviously looked bad, but he needed her medical opinion. "Is it better to do it now or wait?" How sure was she that it was an infection? He figured it was better to do it now but he wanted to ask to be certain that this had to be done. That the risk was absolutely necessary. Because if it was, then he would do it. It only meant that they would not be resting tonight and would get back on the move as soon as they put out the fire.

He was getting a tiny bit ahead of him, it seemed. There was no need to do it yet. While her temperature had risen to a slight fever, she knew it was in reality not really a bad sign. You just needed to know what the signs meant. Clarke reached for his hand, squeezing it lightly. For a moment she had forgotten she now had a better way to reassure him, but it soon came to her. She leaned forward to kiss the man softly on the lips, giving him a soft, hopefully reassuring smile.
“We wait, Bellamy. There is no reason to do it yet.” She looked him in the eyes. Her wound was maybe infected, but not too badly yet. “Usually the human body is quite capable of handling an infection, Bellamy. The wound is small. We should give it time to let it try and fight I on its own. When it gets worse, then we do it. But for now the hope still holds that it won’t, okay? Don't worry. This won't kill me." How ironic would it be if it did. A damn stick of all the things.

whatever THE HELL WE WANT He was worried, of course he was. While his tone was void of panic, that didn't mean that he wouldn't be concerned for her. With their limited supplies -- even more limited ones being out here -- he was afraid of losing her. Of not doing enough to save her, even if it was from something like an infection. However it seemed that all his thoughts and fears were suddenly put on hold the second he felt her lips touch his. He kept his eyes open for a moment, before closing them and letting the sensations of her touch fill his entire being.
It was a light kiss, though certainly an effective one. When she pulled away he slowly opened his eyes, looking at her as she explained that they didn't have to do it right now. That it was just a small wound and the infection wasn't that serious. He leaned toward her, resting his forehead against hers for a moment as he spoke. "Alright," he conceded, before moving his head back once more. He would be monitoring that very carefully though, prepared to do what was necessary the second it had to happen . . . if it had to happen.
"No, it won't," he said in full agreement when she assured him that it wouldn't kill her. Because he wouldn't let that happen. And because, it would take way more than a stick and infection to bring her down. "You're too tough for that, princess," he said with a bit of teasing in his voice but also with the utmost truth. He then reached for the water and handed it to her. "You should have some more," he instructed, since it was all he had to offer right now, and they could hopefully find some more water tomorrow on their way back to camp.

Normally being out there would have had her nervous, to have an infection on top of it even more so, but she wasn’t alone, she was with him. He gave her a sense of security that she intended to cling to. This man was… not what she expected when she first saw him, but she was glad she was wrong about him. In a sense the trip to earth here had given her so much, him. Without it she’d never have known him. Fate didn’t exist after all. Clarke took the offered drink, but only took a few sips. They might need it later.
Clarke was just about to say something when she heard rustling. The light of the trees was out of a sudden, as if startled by the sudden aggressive movement. Huh, interesting. She heard grunting. What was that? Since they couldn’t speak, Clarke looked at Bellamy, hoping to ask him with her eyes what he thought of that. Were those Grounders? Were they about to be found? Or an animal? A small part of her hoped for their people, but hell that would be them being very stupid.

whatever THE HELL WE WANT The rustling in the trees caused Bellamy to be fully alert, his head turned in the direction of where it was coming from. But it wasn't just one place. Soon enough, he could hear the sounds practically surrounding them. All from each direction except one, but it was one a matter of time before that exit would be blocked too and that they would be circled. His movements were quiet, slow. His hand went to the useless gun, everything suddenly getting quiet. Too quiet. He looked at Clarke, unable to speak but just gave a small nod that said to get ready. They were going to need to make a mad run for it . . . well, as fast as they could go considering. And he wasn't even sure which direction it would take them since they only had one option. He slowly moved toward Clarke, knowing she wouldn't be able to run right now. Not as fast as they needed to go.
With the gun strapped around his back, he carefully and quietly moved his arms n preperation to hold Clarke in them. Hold tight he mouth to her. He then counted down in his head. 3 . . . 2 . . . 1 . . . and with that, he scooped up Clarke and made a runfo run for it. As soon as he lifted her and ran, there was an arrow shot in the exact area they had just occupied. Bellamy moved as quickly as he could carrying through the trees and heavily wooded area. He could hear the Grounders behind them, one of them getting way too close. If he could at least eliminate one, it could help things. He skidded to a stop, putting Clarke behind a tree so that she was concealed. "Don't make a sound," he instructed her before he stepped into view just in time to see a Grounder charge at him.
He knocked Bellamy to the ground, the beast using the handle of his axe to agressively strike Bellamy across the face a few times, before Bellamy rolled over to the side so that he misssed the next blow. He then leaped to his feet, moving behind the grounder, using the bulletless gun and rammed it in the back of the grounders knees as hard as he could. It provided just a few seconds of delay in the Grounder which allowed Bellamy to hit him on the head with the gun, again and again, until he fell to the ground, unconcious. Bellamy didn't have enough time to kill him, nor was there any need. Instead, he grabbed his weapons. An axe and a couple of daggers. He pocketed the daggers and looked at the path from where the Grounder came. He could hear the others approaching. He then tucked the handle of the axe behind him and went back to Clarke, scooping her up in his arms once more. They needed to find somewhere to hide because they sure as hell wouldn't be able to out run them.

It was perhaps just a tiny movement that tipped it off for both of them: This was no animal, nor was it their friends. Animals would not move with such precision and unfortunately neither did their friends. They simply were not trained enough to do so. The odd one or two could, but the one man who was most skilled at this was currently holding her, trying to not make a sound like she did. To no avail. She heard everything getting quiet as well. She had an idea what it could mean, but she could see he did. She trusted him, so she just tried to move according to his cues. That included placing her arms around his neck when he signaled her to prepare.
Clarke was out of control here, so she trusted him, but she hated that. She hated to be nothing but a passenger when he ran for their lives. She wanted to run, but couldn’t. She wanted to help him, fight with him, for him. But instead all she could do was sit where he placed her and pray he’d survive. She heard the noises, forced herself to be quiet even when she feared he could be hurt. Eventually someone came. She pressed herself a bit further into the tree, but relaxed once she noticed who it was. She’d always recognize that silhouette. Clarke wrapped her arms around his neck. They were getting lost more and more, but somehow they’d survive, she was sure of it just by how determined he was.

whatever THE HELL WE WANT Bellamy was moving as quickly as he could, but it was no longer about out running the Grounders as oppose to finding a place that they could hide out. They had some distance between them that would work to their advantage. He was all too aware that wherever they were going, was most probably further away from their camp. And with her infection . . . well, something told him that they were eventually going to have to do what she said they would need to if it got to that.
Hope struck Bellamy when he saw a small cave up ahead. It wasn't big, but it looked inconspicious enough. He moved toward it, setting Clarke down on her feet. "Wait here," he instructed her as he pulled out the axe he had taken from the Grounder. He raised it up in front of him as he inched toward the cave. He stepped inside and was incredibly happy to see one thing: the end of the cave wall. It wasn't deep, which also meant that it wasn't connected to the tunnels of the mines and that they therefore wouldn't have to worry about Reapers. That was all they needed right now. He just hoped that the tiny cave would go unnoticed by the Grounders. He went back to Clarke and moved her arm around his neck so that he could support her as he guided her to what would be their shelter for the night.

“Where the hell am I going to go?” she protested as he placed her outside the cave. It wasn’t like she could run away, especially not like this. Moving would probably result in her face planting against the floor, because putting weight on her leg was just not going to happen in this state. Clarke leaned a bit heavier onto where he leaned her against, trying not to slide down as Gravity suggested she should. Finally after what felt like so many moments spent worrying about her surroundings and whatever he would find in there, he returned, helping her to hobble inside.
The cave wasn’t big, but for the two of them, it was just enough. They could easily spend the night here. Clarke looked around. Nothing seemed to be fresh in there, nothing suggested there was an animal or anything living here. They were alone. Clarke was just about to say something, when the cave seemed to turn, at least to her. Damn it. Gripping him tighter, she tried to focus everything again, with success. Clarke knew the symptoms, it was still okay, but it was getting closer. “Can we safely make a fire here, should we have to?”

whatever THE HELL WE WANT Bellamy nearly rolled his eyes in teasing at her rhetorical quetsion, responding as he led her to the cave. "I never know with you, princess," he teased as they seated themselves into what would be their shelter for the night. That is, if luck was on their side and the Grounders didn't find them. She then asked if it was safe to make a fire here, if they had to. Something told them that they were going to have to if she was inquiring about that.
"It should be," he told her. "We'll just have to wait a bit until we're sure the Grounders aren't nearby." As they could still be following a path -- considering Bellalmy had only taken out one compared to the many others -- starting a fire would tip them off as to their exact whereabouts. It was too risky at the moment, but he also knew that they may eventually not have a choice. "It's getting worse pretty fast, isn't it?" He asked, though his tone seemed to already hold an awareness to the answer of his own question. Even if they did have to do it, he was no expert in this. He'd much rather get her back to the camp. But desperate times he supposed, and he'd do everything within his power to protect her.

Good, they had time. They did not need to rush anything. Her body was still fighting. There was no reason for the fire yet, at least from what she felt and noticed. Clarked watched him, saw the worry in him, but also something akin to knowledge as if he was sure it would have to happen. To him it might look like exactly that. What he saw was her fever climbing, her dizziness and all that. To him it could easily be signs of something bad, but not nearly as bad as it could be. She was not septic yet. Still his assessment was not wrong.
“It’s certainly not getting better, but you don’t need to worry yet, Bell.” Had she ever called him that before? She couldn’t tell. “The stress of fleeing naturally doesn’t help it. But it’s fine.” It was still fine. The question was for how long. “I think we will need to do it before tomorrow, though. You might be right. Are you ready to do it?” What if he wasn’t?

whatever THE HELL WE WANT Bellamy trusted her judgment, and if she said that they didn't need to do it yet, then they didn't need to do it yet. Her casual referring to him as Bell caused a flicker of a smile, the nickname most commonly being used by Octavia, but he liked the way Clarke had said it. "Hopefully that's the last time they get so close before we get back to camp," he commented. Hopeful, yes. But luck wasn't always on their side. They had caught up to them in the clearing. But with each second that passed where they didn't discover them, hopefully meant another step away from them.
She said that they would need to do it before tomorrow, and asked if he was ready. "I'll do whatever I need to do. You don't have to worry about that." He hated the thought of inflicting any pain on her, but at the same time, if it saved her life . . . then he would do it. "We just gotta make sure that you're the one who's ready." That everything was in place for when they did do it. "Not that either of us have much of a choice here," he said cocking his head to the side for a brief moment. These were the circumstances they were faced with and they had to deal with them . . . story of their lives.

“I’m not.” How could she ever be ready for something like that? But at the same time it might be necessary in order to save her. She hated to place this burden on him, but she knew he’d do it, no matter what, with or without her telling him to, just to save her. Because this was Bellamy. He had been selfish initially, but now he was so far from being that man. Clarke could only admire the man he had become when faced with the circumstances of all of this. “We can get through this.” It would probably hurt both of them immensely, especially with what happened on the clearing. But then again exactly that might offer them the comfort they needed.
“Can you hold me again?” It wasn’t like leaving was a choice. They might as well sit there, wait for the new day or for when they would have to take actions about her leg. Then again… what the hell. Why risk it, when this way it might be easier for the both of them. She sighed. “If… if it’s clear, you should do it. Better now before it spreads than later.” It might even return a bit of stability to her leg, allowing her to walk at least a bit. If not they’d have to wait until then but then spring into action.

whatever THE HELL WE WANT She stated that she wasn't ready and well, he couldn't blame her for that. It wasn't going to feel good at all, which only made him wish all the harder that he could spare her from that pain. "We will get through this," he stated confidently. "Just like we've gotten through everything else." He wondered if the day would ever come where they could just . . . live, rather than survive. The constant threats, danger, war, everything. It was exhausting. When could they truly start their lives, living free and in safety. Damn, that sounded like such a far fetched dream.
"That's something that you never have to ask me, Clarke." Why? Because he would always want to. His arms would always be open for her. He moved close to her, wrapping his arm around her and nestling her against him. She then told him that they should do this now, and he closed his eyes for a moment. "Let's just wait a few minutes," he suggested. He wasn't just stalling because he didn't want to cause her pain. But also because if the Grounders were close, they would see the smoke. He didn't want to risk discovery, especially in Clarke's state. "Let me just hold you for a little longer," he said in a low voice, turning so that he could kiss the side of her head in a lingering embrace.

Part of Clarke wondered if they both just wanted to drag this out in order to not face what they would have to do. The other part was well aware of the fact, that he needed to make a fire for it and that could bring the Grounders to them. It was better to wait. It was better to give themselves a few moments before they had to do that. While in his arms, Clarke reached for the small bag they carried around. She didn’t know what she thought she’d find in there, as she wasn’t looking for water or provisions, but she went through it anyway to see what exactly he had packed. As her head rested against his shoulder she couldn’t believe her eyes. Was she hallucinating? Was she already too far gone? Clarke pulled the object out. Dried seaweed.
She wasn’t hallucinating. She vaguely remembered actually putting it in the bag, thinking that one of their originally larger party could get themselves hurt and they might need it. And then she had forgotten about it. Damn it. “Bellamy. Do you know what this is?” Clarke put the bag back down and turned to snuggle herself a bit deeper into his embrace, the seaweed held just so that he could see it. She wondered if he could actually remember it. It’s been quite a while

whatever THE HELL WE WANT He felt and saw her reach for something from the bag, rummaging through it as if looking for something. Did she want food? Water? He could have given it to her, but she seemed to look past those things. He just watched her curiously until something caught her eye that caused her to pause. Her next actions revealed what it was. She held up a dried piece of vegetation of some sort. He had no idea what it was. Damn . . . she was asking him what it was.
"Uh, some sort of plant that can serve as an anesthetic?" He asked, trying to be logical in his response. He figured it was something that she put in there. He knew it wasn't drugs to make you high . . . the kind of high that people went for. So it was either some sort of healing thing, or served another purpose entirely. "What else did you put in that pack?" He inquired somewhat rhetorically as he leaned his head forward a little to peek inside, though wasn't curious enough to actually move his position and look through the contents of it. If she put that in there . . . it was for good reason.
