we've been AT WAR SINCE WE LANDED The battle had been won. It was over. Bellamy had never been in the face of so much blood. So much death. Sure, he had seen his fair share . . . but this different. He had helped devise a strategy, one that the Grounders were seemingly unfamiliar with which was excellent because it gave them the upperhand. Trojan horse. They had tried to use that before in Mount Weather but it hadn't entirely succeeded.
This time, it had. He had told them to make sure others could see them flee, and once the Trojan horse was in position, they could attack from behind when their defenses were lowered. It had been successful. That, and the use of vehicles. The Grounders may not like guns, but they had other technologies that they could -- and had -- used to their advantage.
Bellamy was currently in the tent designated to him. There was a bowl of water that he was using to wash his hands; the stained blood from his hands. He had taken off the mask but the rest of his Grounder clothes remained on. His eyes fixated on his hands, unable to control a slight tremble in them. He clenched his jaw, not wanting to appear weak. He felt as if his soul had died the day he pulled that lever.
He supposed this was even the remotest proof that he still had some humanity left in him. Hearing someone enter his tent, his head immediately went to the door while he reached for the cloth used to dry his hands. It was Echo. "What is it?" He asked, not annoyed but wanting to get straight to the point and see if Nia wished to speak to him about anything. Echo had been the one to train him and really, still the only Grounder he trusted among all these others.

Echo pulled her mask off as she left Nia's tent, and moved through the field to find Bellamy. When she got to his tent, she pushed right in, knowing no other would dare. There were many who still feared him, and after this there were many more. While there was some who sought to prove their worth by challenging him, none had dared Nia's wrath by doing it. It left him in an untouchable state. No one brave enough to try. "Nia ste beja kom yu, Belomi." She told him that Nia was pleased with him, trying to make him work on their language more. Nia wanted him to be able to address the warriors soon.
Echo dropped her mask by the door and pulled off the outer layer of her garment. She still wore layers, but no longer was she coated in the heavy coat she used to appear larger. "She sends food, and says she will meet with you in the morning to discuss what we do next." Echo watched his face while trying to decide what she saw there. It wasn't pride in what he did. That was much she could tell. Sitting the basket of meat down, she moved to stand near him. "Today's victory will serve as a warning to the others. I doubt the other clans will offer her support after this defeat." She told him, but she was watching his face as well. Trying to tell if he was regretting this choice, or if he was dealing with it.

we've been AT WAR SINCE WE LANDED Echo began to tell him something in Grounder. He picked up on a few of the key words . . . getting a gist for it but fortunately, she translated right after. She had brought food with her though Bellamy's wasn't the slightest bit hungry. Still, he wasn't about to appear ungrateful for it. Maybe he'd be hungry later and better to have it now than wish he had it in the near future. If that were even the case. He didn't look at her as she continued to speak, finishing drying off his hands and then setting the cloth back on the small table.
He did meet her gaze however when she approached him, standing near him and speaking of how today's victory would warn others. The sooner they got the target, the sooner this all would be over. Though he had to wonder if he would ever be able to return back to Camp Jaha with the others . . . or if Nia was actually deadset on keeping him here.
He knew better than to question it, especially when their initial objective was not yet acheived. "Good," he said in the same blunt voice. "Makes us one step closer to getting her." Capturing, torturing . . . whatever the hell they intended to do with Lexa. That wasn't Bellamy's problem. He had just promised to help them get there. "Mochof." Thank you. For he was thanking her for the food that she brought. Before, he hadn't had any interest in learning or speaking Grounder. But now, he was picking up on it.

When he spoke, Echo relaxed some. She had been worried he might bolt but his words were steady and not affected. She walked back toward the meat and pulled some off the larger chunk before putting it in her mouth. "Pro," which meant you're welcome. She chewed the meat and swallowed it before walking up to his drinking water and taking some of that too. She didn't feel bad about sharing his things without asking. It wasn't as if she took everything he had. She just took some of it.
Picking up some of the meat again she walked over and held a bit out to him. "You might look like one of us, but you still think like a Sky Person." She told him, "I did not think it would work, but we stand victors." She looked around his tent, as if looking for something to get in too. When she found nothing she looked back up at him. "Are these tactics normal of your people?" She was curious about them, as well as doing her job. While no one ask her to learn more about his people; it was her unspoken job. They were at peace now, but this would not always be the case. Still, as long as he held Nia's ear she didn't see the truce breaking.

we've been AT WAR SINCE WE LANDED Bellamy hardly looked at her or cared that she started eating the food brought for him and drinking the water. It wasn't as if he was going to eat and drink all of this himself. He did however take the meat she offered, not wanting to appear ungrateful or suggest that anything was wrong -- even if he felt rather unsettled after everything he'd just engaged in and witnessed. Taking a small bite he listened to her speak of how he looked like them but still thought like a Sky Person.
He wasn't sure if that was an insult or a compliment but her next words satisfied that curiosity. She then asked if this was the norm of his people. "Our strategies are different from yours," he began to answer. Clearly that was the case. They used more primitive weapons. "And they depend on the situation," he further answered. A lot of it was based both on technology and historic events that proved to be successful and able to be executed with the proper adaptations. "Our technology is a big advantage. But the Trojan Horse is a past strategy used by the Romans."
She may be familira with it. She may not be. He wasn't going to explain anything beyond that and give a bit of context. If he was going to continue to prove to be an asset, he needed to keep his strategies to himself. And he had no idea how much Grounders knew about history. "Guess it's best to not totally conform me into an Azgeda clansman," he said only half kidding about that. He meant more about keeping his own mentality rather than using the Grounders strategy . . . because if they did, they would lose the element of surprise against them.

He explained, but Echo didn't follow it too much. She was warrior. SHe followed orders, not gave them. She had never had the head for planning the battles--only fighting in them. She could read people, and learn everything about them; but she couldn't move deeper to trying to manipulate them. He spoke of Romans and Echo had not heard of them before. "Who were they? Were they enemies of your people?" Would they too fall from the sky and cause a war?
He also joked about conforming, and Echo thought for a moment before reacting in anyway. If he conformed too much, Nia would loose interest and and chances were he'd be killed since he knew too much about them. "It is said that the true warrior can walk amidst his enemies without being seen." The deadly assassin who was near enough to fear but couldn't be seen. It was like he had done in the mountain--walked around as one of them. "Sometimes it is best to give the appearance of conforming." Because Nia wanted him walking and sounding like them, so when the other clans saw him they would think he had really joined them.

we've been AT WAR SINCE WE LANDED Enemies of his people. He supposed that in a way, it was true . . . but they were not enemies of his people. It was Ancient history -- literally. "Not quite," he began to answer truthfully. He wondered what sort of academics the Grounders were raised with . . . or if the emphasis was solely placed on warfare. "It's part of Earth's history. One that takes place centuries ago." Details that he would not go into but he figured he answered the question adequately enough. She then spoke of how a true warrior could walk among others without being detected . . . and that it was sometimes best to give that notion of conformity.
"Physically, yeah," he agreed. Better he looked the part rather than stick out like a sore thumb. "But mentally, I'll stick to my own mentality. Otherwise, I'd be useless here." He'd have nothing to offer. Right now, he was offering unfamiliar strategies to them and their enemies; his expertise. If he was just like everybody else, all the other Grounders then he doubted Nia would have any purpose for him. A slight smirk suddenly appeared on his expression. "I'd like to see you try and conform to the appearance of one of my people." It was more of a taunt than anything else. A teasing challenge . . . for he doubted that would ever happen.

Echo finished off what she had in her hand while he explained it was from Earth's history. She wasn't surprised she had not heard of it before, as they tented to know more about recent histories to long time ago histories. Why learn anything that had nothing to do with them now. Most of their histories were of their clans. Apparently it was were he pulled his ideas, which meant clearly there was advantage in knowing their war tactics.
It was his last comment, and smirk that drew her attention away from politics. "I'd like to see you try and conform to the appearance of one of my people." She squared her shoulders and shifted to turn and smoothly come to rest beside him, rather then facing him. Her stance had falling into one to mimic his, and her hands even rose to move where his own were. Then, in her best impression of his accent and fluency she tried to copy his words. While they were not as smooth, she managed to get close to his accent. "I'd like to see you try and conform to the appearance of one of my people." Echo waited for his reaction before dropping from his stance.

we've been AT WAR SINCE WE LANDED Echo responded to his statement by starting to take on his demanor, positioning herself like him before she started speaking like him. It wasn't bad for a Grounder, he'd give her that. But it did cause him to roll his eyes at her. "I hear parrots can do the same thing," he mocked. He had never seen a parrot before, but he had read about them, learning that they could mimic a person's words.
Really, he was just teasing Echo. She seemed to watch people closely, notice the small details and now, she had been using that to her advantage when he'd sarcastically suggested -- though not entirely void of curiosity -- she be unable to act like one of his people. "Though I guess you can't really dress a parrot in our clothing," he added on with a slight smirk on his facee. Seeing Echo in Arker clothing . . . that would most definitely be quite interesting indeed.

"I hear parrots can do the same thing," Echo didn't react to the unknown word, but maintined his stance, and body language. "Though I guess you can't really dress a parrot in our clothing," Hearing it a second time she asked about it, still trying to speak and sound like his people. "What is this par-rot you speak of to me?" She tried to use as many words as she could think of in that question, and when he was over she dropped back to her own natural body language.
"Your clothes worked in your metal land, but here it is too little to keep you warm." She told him her opinion without him needing to ask for it--as she was doubtful he ever would. "And it is too easy to see in the woods with your colors." They wore reds, and blues, and colors that didn't match the dark greens, and browns of the Tree Lands, and the grays or whites of her own. It made them easy to find--they also walked loudly and in large groups--which made them impossible not to find.

we've been AT WAR SINCE WE LANDED Echo inquired as to what a parrot was. It was so interesting, that the Grounders seemed to have less knowledge about the history of Earth and all the things it entailed compare to the Arkers. Despite the Grounders having survived the nuclear war, they were still so very primitive. And limited in their knowledge of history and all that had once existed. The Arkers were quite the opposite. They had the academic background and the technology. Together, they could have done so much. But instead, they fought against each other. Damn shame.
"It's a kind of bird that can mimic a human's voice," he told her. A talking animal. He had not seen one for himself, but he had read about them, seen pictures of them. They were wonderfully vibrant in color and large. She then went on to explain why his clothing was impractical: because of the cold weather and because it did not camouflage well in the woods. "That's why I'm dressed like this now." He didn't like it. It was the representation that he didn't like though, not the impracticality. Because Grounder clothing was obviously better equipped for cold weather -- especially Ice Nation one. But it was their uniform.
Their attire. Their style of clothing. Bellamy was still an Arker at heart. Still one who fought for the Delinquents, even if he was with the army of Azgeda. He would never refer to himself as one; not truly in his heart and soul. "Our clothes serve their purpose. But we had to adapt them for winter." They weren't stupid. But they also held a different skillset than the Grounders. "Doesn't matter," Bellamy dismissed. "I'm not wearing them here." He was in the garb of a Grounder Warrior. Sometimes he felt like he was playing dress up or something . . . but then the harsh reality came crashing back down, realizing that this was where he was now.
