THE HELL WE WANT
Bellamy had no intention of going to Earth. None whatsoever. None . . . before today. He was still trying to process the news himself. His father had told him some time ago that the Ark was dying. That they were doing everything they could to fix it. Bellamy had kept this a well guarded secret, but today . . . he would be betraying the trust that his father bestowed in him. The thought made him feel sick, but not as sick as the thought of leaving Braeden and Amaren made him feel . . . nor as sick as the thought of separating his daughter from her mother and brother. But what other choice did they have? With the very limited oxygen left, the Chancellor and Council would find no excuse to dispose of whichever lives they could.
His daughter as an illegal second child would undoubtedly be among them. And Bellamy feared that his father wouldn't be able to stop it, even if he wanted to. Bellamy paused outside the door of their apartment, taking a deep breath, trying to compose himself. Tomorrow the drop ship would launch to Earth, which didn't leave enough time. Though even if it launched a year from today . . . that still wouldn't be enough time. He slowly punched in the code to their home, stepping inside and closing the door behind him. He saw Braeden with their children and a slight smile formed on his lips, though it was far from jovial. He didn't know what they would do when Arria was older as they were just taking things one day at a time.
But now . . . the harsh reality of their situation was thrust upon them, as was the even harsher solution. He wordlessly followed, seeing that Arria and Amaren were playing with something together. He kissed Arria on the top of the head, sitting down on the couch next to Braeden as he reached over to ruffle the top of Amaren's head. "Why don't you two make a surprise picture for mommy," he suggested, the thought seeming rather enticing for Amaren as his face lit up at the possibility. He bounded off, with Arria struggling to catch up . . . but she was fast for a two year old. She wasn't far behind him. Bellamy just watched them disappear into Amaren's room, trying to gather the courage and strength to tell Braeden what he had to.
