Arran Quinn was one of the most respected guardsmen. He was of a high rank, and was known as being wise, just, and fair. He answered to only a few, such as the new vice chancellor Marcus Kane, and the few members of the guard that help position above him----which meant that as his daughter, Braeden Quinn had a lot to prove. She had to be better then everyone else so that no one questioned her moving up the ranks. She had to be tougher then everyone else because when your father was the best, you had to be better to be seen as equal to the name he built.
She had always known she wanted to be in the guard, so when she joined she had made sure there was nothing to distract her--which meant that she had her high school boy friend had agreed to end their relationship on good terms, and just be friends. They had made it through training, as friends; and then were assigned other places. For Braeden that was working under Officer Grus at first in factory station, before moving up to work as an officer in medical. It wasn't long before she was assigned to the council and political station--which was a promotion.
The part she liked, was this meant she was working for Bellamy Blake Kane; the former high school boy friend who had not only been her first, but a dear friend. The part she didn't--was how much they had both changed in the few years they had been apart. In high school he had made her heart flutter--and now as man he was now making something else flutter. Currently it was because he no longer looked like the straight-laced guardsmen and was covered in sweat, while half naked. It was making it hard to think. Especially because she was ruffled, sweaty and half naked.
It was a pity they were in a crowded gym, and was training--or being that it was against the rules, maybe it was a good thing. "Come on, Kane," She teased, dropping her body in a defensive formation, while lifting her hands up to be ready for his attack. "Who's your daddy now?" She was wearing tighter black pants, and a black sports bar (normal training attire as no one wanted to rip good clothes). Her breathing was labored as they had been training for a while. In some attacks, Bellamy beat her and in other attacks she beat him. They were about even. In the last attack, she had managed to toss him tot he ground, which was why she was gloating now.

whatever THE HELL WE WANT Bellamy was currently clad in his training attire consisting of a sleeveless shirt and long shorts. He quite enjoyed the physical training aspect of his position in the guard -- one he was moving quickly up the ranks in. He was young but he held promise. That was how he preferred to see it, rather than it being because he was the son of Marcus Kane. Perhaps it was a bit of both. Considering his father's position, he wanted to make him proud and live up to the Kane name. Though, he didn't want that to be his identity. He wanted to develop his own. Which was why being referred to as Kane could be a bit hindering to that . . . yet at the same time, it was accurate.
Bellamy had to admit, he didn't mind when Braeden did it. She was his friend . . . his good friend, and if anyone could get away with teasing him, it was most certainly her. He looked at her, a sarcastice expression to match the words that would come. "Don't want to wear you out, Quinn," he told her teasingly, tauntingly. Perhaps even a slight reference to back when they were together. While he never advertised it, people had a general idea of their past. They had never been in a formal relationship before . . . just as friends. That didn't mean that he didn't find her especally attractive. "Save what energy you have left for someone better matched for you. Like Shumway." The last words were said with a grin of amusement . . . as Shumway was not someone either of them were overly fond of. He hated Bellamy and well, Bellamy didn't exactly like him either. But the son of the vice chancellor had his ways of getting back at him.

"Don't want to wear you out, Quinn," Bellamy teased her, and Braeden sent him a wink, because she knew what he was referring too; and she knew herself better then that. He might have been able to wear her out at 16 but she had since learned stamina. And a lot of it. "Save what energy you have left for someone better matched for you. Like Shumway." That made her eyes narrow. She had begun to pick up on the fact that Shumway liked her, and it wasn't a feeling she returned. She also thought he liked her father and she was just a way to get his attention--either way though, he was her superior and she had to show him respect.
Unlike Bellamy who was her superior but was int he training ring with her thus respect could wait--so with that she jumped forward and got in a jab to his ribs. Not enough to hurt him, as this wasn't the goal. It was enough she hoped to warn him about teasing her with such men. Cause she didn't like it. "I'm not 16 anymore. I could tire you out, Kane, and still have enough to take him down." Her tone was pure teasing, and where spoken low because apart of her was hoping he'd understood her joke, which was slightly in appropriate but she couldn't hold it back.

whatever THE HELL WE WANT Bellamy could tell that his second comment affected her more than her first based on the way she eyed him and then of course, jabbed him in the ribs. He slightly hunched over for a brief moment but then stood upright again, mockingly glaring at her though it was also mixed with amusement in from teasing . . . having found that one topic to provoke her with. Shumway. He wasn't only mocking the man because well, he didn't like Bellamy . . . but also because he knew that Shumway had a thing for Braeden. It made the entire conversation all the more amusing. "That's really not saying much," he mocked, regarding having enough energy to take Shumway down. "But why don't you save all that fire for him. I'm sure he'll love it," Bellamy added on, clearly suggesting something beyond training.
Truth be told . . . he didn't see anything ever forming between Braeden and Shumway. The dude didn't seem to be her type. He also didn't fail to notice the underlying suggestion in her comments. It made him wonder. He quickly moved forward, grabbing her arm and twisting it behind her back while his other hand tightly gripped her wrist, hindering her ability to move as he stood directly behind her. "Especially now that you're single," he added in a lower voice, not to announce it to anyone but more so, tease the idea of her and Shumway. He knew the relationship had ended on a good note, otherwise he never would have teased her with it. He continued to smirk with amusement due to his words, though now released his grip on her. "Look who's slow now," he teased, just showing a clear sign of being in a dominant position and satisfied with that.

"That's really not saying much," He taunted to her, and Braeden shot him a playful glare (though it was growing less playful with his topic). She wasn't a fan of Shumway nor of Bellamy's teasing. "But why don't you save all that fire for him. I'm sure he'll love it," He had her pinned down or she would have hit him again! However his voice spoken low and near her with his next comment of, "Especially now that you're single," distracted her from the need to hit him. It was a pity he was her boss, or she'd be all over him again. He let her go, and went back to taunting. Neither of them had been in a reason relationship since each other--and how real could high school really be? Though she knew they had seen with other people.
"Look who's slow now," With a glare she spun around on him, trying to use her foot to sweep his from under him, and danced back in case he didn't fall be kept his balance. "That was always the trouble with you, Kane. You never knew when to shut up, and when to be a man of action." She teased, knowing that wasn't quite true. Moving forward quickly, she attempted to get in another hit, this one aimed more toward his pretty face.
Dancing back a few feet (out of his range) she kept her hands up. It was then she noticed that Shumway and a few others were walking in. Determined not to let him say anything before the man, Braeden lunged forward, catching Bellamy's middle with her shoulder. She wrestled for his arms; her goal to pin him down and win the match. Either way, one of them would win because her move put them both on the ground.

whatever THE HELL WE WANT Bellamy anticipated her action, her leg only hitting his ankle as he quickly moved out of range. He knew she was good, and knew better than to underestimate her. The swing toward his head came next and he managed to get out of the way of that too. She really was taking this seriously. By the time Shumway and gang came in however, she was not holding back. He lunged at him, tackling him to the ground and he fell right onto it, with her attempt to hold his hands against it to hinder his own movement. He smirked up at her, amused more than anything akin to immasculation. Hell, he was proud that he had co-guardsmen like her.
"You like being on top don't you?" He teased, his question somewhat rhetorical as he was playing with the idea of her being on top . . . and not just for the purpose of training. Letting her gain the upperhand for a moment, he then locked her hips between his legs and spun her around, pushing her against the ground as his hands went to either side of hers and held them on either side of her head. "Now this is more like it," he stated playfully, cocking his head to the side. Letting that position linger he rose up to his feet, offering his hand to her to help her up once he was standing. "Good job, Quinn. Looks like you learned a lot from me." Another tease. Another jest.

She had him! She had him pinned! "You like being on top don't you?" She smiled down smugly at him, ready to deliver her sassy comment--and it would have been full of wit, sass and just toeing the line of property. However before she could say anything, his legs moved to wrap around her and flip her! "Now this is more like it," He teased, and she felt anger for letting their playfulness distract her from winning! Though only at herself! After beating her head once on the mat behind her, she brushed it off and let him help her up. "Good job, Quinn. Looks like you learned a lot from me." Her lips couldn't stop themselves in twitching.
Stepping closer to him she looked up at him, before tilting her head and replying in a low voice. "One day maybe I will show you what I taught myself." She taunted, letting her words hang there; knowing that they could be taken either way. Before she could say more an annoying voice came from behind her. 'And there he is, the son of Marcus Kane using his name to spend his time wisely, since he didn't have to pay his dues, and work the ranks.' Shumway. He was still bitter that Bellamy had gotten this job rather then him. While the words were spoken in a teasing tone; everyone knew they were not. Braeden shifted her weight so that she was more between them, ready to put her hands up and stop him from attacking the other man.

whatever THE HELL WE WANT Bellamy's playful smirk remained in place upon hearing her next words. A tease . . . something that he felt intrigued to find out more about. He knew he shouldn't be having such thoughts about her, considering their positions and the rules in place about their ranks. But it was hard not to. Especially considering their pasts. And how damn attractive she was. It was Shumway's words that caused the amused expression to slowly fade from Bellamy's face. He didn't miss the way Braeden moved to stand between them. Bellamy knew he had to keep his anger in check and it was a bit easier to do so with Braeden standing between them.
She knew him well, and he liked that about her. That he didn't have to explain himself nor did he need her to proect him. She just seemed to silently be aware of what he needed. "And there he is, Officer Shumway, still too afraid to face me with actions so he hides behind his words." Truth be told, Bellamy hated it when people used his father's name to explain his postion among the guard. It made him feel like his efforts and hard work were for nothing because his father's position was what got him to where he was now. It was because of his father that he worked hard, but Bellamy liked to think that it wasn't because of him that he was where he was. Marcus was not reckless; he wouldn't put an under qualified individual in such a high ranking role. So this was indeed a trigger for him, but he did what he could to suppress that. To withhold it. But with that said, his gaze still didn't move from Shumway's.

This was going to get out of hand! Braeden could see it, and she knew everyone else could. Her heart was beating a bit quicker because she knew she couldn't speak up against Shumway as he was her superior but she also knew that when ti came down to it--she wasn't going to let Bellamy get into a fight without her there. Besides, she was fighting for her own name to stand out from her father's too--so she understood where Bellamy was coming from. 'Some of us work for the jobs we hold!'
That wasn't going to end well. "We all have." She snapped, letting it be as much as she could say right now; before turning to Bellamy and trying to talk to him in a low voice. "This is what he wants. For you to prove you don't have the control and common sense for the job. Lets just go, and let him look like the bitter man he is." She didn't know if her words would reach Bellamy, but she was hoping that it would at least remind him of what is happening thus letting him make better choices. She stayed between them for a moment before whispering his name, "Bellamy. We should go."

whatever THE HELL WE WANT Work for the jobs?! What the hell did Shumway think Bellamy did. He was ready to break the guy's jaw just to teach him a lesson, though some how he miraculously remained in position, grounded. Perhaps it was no miracle at all. It was thanks to Braeden. She told him that this was what Shumway wanted; to prove that he couldn't remain composed. Bellamy wasn't going to get in trouble over this idiot. She was right. He wasn't worth it. Bellamy took a deep breath, forcing his gaze away from Shumway's to Braeden's, and gave her a small nod in response to her latter spoken words.
Yeah she was definitely right. They needed to leave. Bellamy turned to walk out before pausing and spinning back around. "Oh, that reminds me," he said in an overly exaggerated tone of kindness. "One of the younger classes are going on a tour to the farming station. They are going to need a guardsman to escort them for the day. Since you work so hard, why don't you help out with that." They didn't technically, but Bellamy knew the teacher and was well aware that she would be grateful for the additional support. "And a personal escort during bathroom breaks." Bellamy smiled at Shumway. "Report there tomorrow." And that was the final order he gave him before he properly turned and walked out of the training room.

Braeden had to fight to hold back her smile at Bellamy's words, but she knew better then to lat Shumway see that she was enjoying anything--he would only turn his annoyance or attention to her and she didn't want to deal with him personally today. Quickly moving to the locker room, she grabbed her bag and left to wait outside the men's locker room so she would not miss Bellamy.
Technically they were off duty soon, so maybe after this she could get him to knock off a little early and let them hang out or something. Something to shake off Shumway's ass comments and something to lighten the mood. When she saw Bellamy walking out, she grinned up at him in a sassy way. "I was just here to see if you needed a personal escort too." She was mocking Shumway more then him, since Bellamy was the one who had given the order.
Braeden knew how comments that were small could annoy her, when it came to her father or her family name. But no one had ever been out right as ugly as that to her, and honestly, her father wasn't the vice chancellor of the Ark! He wasn't the head of security! Bellamy had it worse, and she hated it for him. Still, out of everyone here surely he knew she could relate to it. They had both been dealing with this since they were kids. "I can go up to 4th with you and let you put in the order and then many we can hit the messhall? Or find food of some sort?"

whatever THE HELL WE WANT Once Bellamy stepped outside of the training area, he went to the locker room in attempt to freshen up. At this point, he just wanted to get out of here. So he didn't bother changing. He would probably just head right up to his apartment and shower there where he could change into some clean clothes. When he stepped outside he saw Braeden there, he comment causing a small smile to form on his lips. If there was anyone who could change his mood for the better, it was certainly her. "I'll take it," he said nonchalantly, playfully acting underwhelmed by it but it was all in good humor.
"Besides, you're a better looking escort than Shumway," he added on. He knew he should be used to such jabs at his rank and who his father was . . . but they still irritated him. Especially coming from an idiot like Shumway. It was why he was all the more grateful for Braeden. He helped soothe the hot headed side to him that would have easily made him lash out at the Officer -- physically rather than just verbally. "Sounds good," he said in full agreement with the plan. It would help take his mind off of things. "I just have to freshen up at my place. Can meet you there in 20?" He asked to confirm, wanting to take her up on the offer. As they neared the elevator, he pushed the button for it. "Thanks, by the way," he said, grateful for her intervention. "Bastard gets on my nerves." But she had helped him deal with that by reminding him of one very important thing: Shumway wasn't worth it.

He grinned and she felt herself grin slightly brighter back. This was why she liked working under him--FOR him. Because they could be playful and have fun, rather then being all formal--which she liked being formal but with Bellamy it felt different. Like he was the exception to the formal rule. When they were in public she was formal and spoke with clear 'yes sir's but when it was just them it felt . .. fun.
He pushed the button for the elevator and talked about going to his room to clean up. Her eyes feel over him in a subtle look, and she regreated he was doing that. She liked his hair a mess, and the smell of him now. "Yeah, I should change clothes too." She reasoned, knowing that showing up in the messhall like this would make a few people stare. No use trying to draw attenion being they both were trying to blend in. When the lift came to them, she walked in first, and looked upa t him. "He's an ass hole, Kane. He is so jealous that he didn't get your job, and the only thing he has done is he older then you. He thinks his age should be his ticket." At least that was how she saw it. "He has always sucked up to my dad. He's always trying to talk to me about my dad too. Don't let him get i your head. We both know why you got this job. Your dad is too by the books to give you hand outs, and everyone knows it."

whatever THE HELL WE WANT When she mentioned that she should change clothes, it was then Bellamy actually noticed them. He glanced over at her, and when he noticed that she didn't see him looking, he found himself staring, his eyes slowly moving over her before he quickly tore his gaze away. He really shouldn't be looking at her like that. Taking notice of the curves of her body . . . imagining how perfect she looked without clothes. And how, developed she had become since the last time they had been physical with one another. Fortunately, the next conversation was enough to divert his attention to something else . . . other than thinking of her as a woman rather than a fellow guardsperson. "He's a damn leech," Bellamy agreed. He was grateful that she understood, that she saw it the way he wanted others to see it. It was about hard work, not about who his father was.
And he wished more people saw it like that and realized that Kane was not somene who would carelessly appoint people. As Braeden had so accurately stated, he was too by the book for that. "Someone needs to break his jaw so he stops talking all together." To her father, about her father . . . to him, to Braeden. "Idiot doesn't know when to shut up." He just ran his mouth, to whoever he could provoke or whoever bothered listening to him. Her father was a highly respected guard, so he imagined that he was too respectful to say anything rude to Shumway. Bellamy could easily fulfill that role though. When the elevator came, he waited for Braeden to step in first before he followed inside. "I'm not losing this position because of him," Bellamy stated, or perhaps more so reassured. "Thanks for reminding me about that," he added on, wanting her to know that there was a great deal he was grateful for, and that his statement of thank you was not just a generic on said as a reflex.

He thanked her for her reminder once again, and she turned her head up to look at him. They were standing side by side int he lift, and while her face was never soft--as it most of the time held a sarcastic, sassy, or smug expression; it was a softer look for her. She rocked slightly toward him, letting her shoulder bump him, before speaking. "You're welcome . . . what are friends for?" She was sort of brushing it off, not used to people thanking her for being nice. She wasn't overly an nice person, she was driven and tented to step on a lot of toes--but with Bellamy it wasn't like that.
As she rocked back to place, her gaze stayed on his, and she didn't look away from him. They both stared at each other for a moment, and she couldn't have to let her eyes drop down to his lips for a half second before they were drug back up to his eyes. She knew they couldn't start anything! He was her boss, they were friends, and exes who ended things on a good non-awkward. He was her boss! Blinking, Braeden looked away finally; and didn't say anything. They'd go back to normal after a cold shower and some food.
