now we're picking fights and slamming doors
Laeta had met many of the soldiers in her clans army. After all each time they battled they came to her for treatment, but she certainly did not know the one whos eyes she met upon turning around and after he spewed sarcasm her direction she was glad she had not. Her eyebrows arched at him and then her eyes narrowed as they furrowed down in a frown. Leave it to a brute in a uniform with a bad temper to ruin a perfectly beautiful day. Laeta pulled her shawl over her shoulders a little tighter, stuck out her chin a tad bit making her attitude visual and stepped forwards to him. “How about you watch where you’re going and maybe breaking things wouldn’t be a concern.” Her voice which was normally relatively calm and collected was instead as sharp as the blades these warriors so often carried.
There had never been a point in Laetas life where she had been one to step down or bow her head. Obedience was not one of her better qualities, in fact what she lacked in obedience she made up for with a stubborn streak that ran a mile wide. This man and his attitude had pulled that streak right up out of her and now she was determined to get a well-deserved apology. “I think an apology is in order.” She said in a low tone, her shoulders squaring up in determination as she prepped herself mentally for the rebuttal she knew he would give. Something about his look and the aura he oozed gave her the idea that he was probably a man who liked when things went his way and she was eager to make sure that did not happen in this situation.

[googlefont="Playfair Display"][googlefont="Alice"] now we're picking fights and slamming doors
While Laeta had never been an excessively outgoing, Hester was convinced she never went out and because of that she constantly sent her out to do things. Everytime they were low on supplies Lae was sent out to the market place to pick them up, Hester always claimed it was because she was far too busy for such things, but Laeta knew it was because she was determined to make her get out with other people. Which is exactly why Laeta found herself out at the market place on this nice breezy day. Honestly though Laeta would have been outside in some other fashion anyway, she liked nice days like these and thoroughly enjoyed going out for a walk. Usually with a person of her choosing though, because she did have a few friends. It wasn’t like she was an anti-social person, but Hester was the type of person who could look at someone and be their friend so Lae’s personality didn’t make sense to her.
Lae walked through the market wearing a loose fitting blue dress that crossed at the top to go over each shoulder and tied around her neck. Her back would have been exposed had it not been for the thin brown shawl she draped over her shoulders covering any skin on her back and the upper half of her arms. She held a basket in her hands filled with the items they used to barter, which typically consisted of medical related supplies. Of course she was well known in this market and they typically stayed with traders they knew and trusted. Today though seeing as she didn’t have much else to do she wandered from stall to stall just looking.
She came to a wood working stall and found a pretty little figurine of a wolf. The wood had intricate designs carved into it, obviously whoever the man behind the stall took great pride in his work. Laeta stayed at the stall looking closely at the wood and trying to decide if this was worth dipping into her personal supplies to trade for. While she was busy greatly admiring the palm sized wolf she suddenly was pushed over from behind her as someone walked straight into her. ”Hey! The hit sent her stumbling to the side dropping her basket and she looked up, her hazel eyes fierce with irritation as she turned to find who it was that had just so rudely bumped into her.

| ~ • ~ | Character Basics | ~ • ~ |
.:Name:. Laeta
.:Nick Name:. Lae
.:Affiliation:. Yujleda
.:Age:. Twenty-Four
| ~ • ~ | Appearance | ~ • ~ |
.:Physical Appearance:. Laeta isn’t the fanciest looking nor is she the plainest, instead she lies somewhere in the happy medium where she will definitely attract some attention when she walks into a room, but she won’t steal the spotlight from the stars. She has a strong jaw line that could have given her an almost masculine look were it not for high defined cheek bones that pointed her face and make it striking. She has long brown hair that most of the time is kept in a loose braid along the left side of her face. A style that has just enough class to be acceptable at most outings but just enough flyaways it never gives her the appearance of being too well put together.
.:Height:. 5’7”
.:Portrayed by:. Gwendoline Taylor
| ~ • ~ | Personality | ~ • ~ |
.:Personality:. Laeta is not a loud person. Her mothers personality rubbed off on Lae and taught her to be quiet around peope she didn’t know. Despite many people thinking of her as standoffish or even in some cases rude, Laeta has nothing against anyone. She is just very straight forwards and to the point. It’s off putting to most people and some people get offended. Unless she has a reason for speaking, she won’t just go strike up conversation with strangers. In some cases that is beneficial and in others, such as social events, it can make it hard for her to gain new friends.
While Laeta may not be capable of initiating a conversation, she is certainly good at continuing it. She enjoys discussing things with people and can enjoy a good talk with someone. With the people close to her she can be quite fun. A love of dancing and music comes out when she’s with those who she trusts and is comfortable with. However the best of Laeta’s personality comes out when she loves. Her heart is genuine and kind but she saves the most important parts for the one she loves.
While she may not always have the best sense of humor and certainly doesn’t have a knack for making people laugh, she does have a streak of sass and sarcasm that comes out in a variety of different circumstances. Equally, she can handle the same type of sarcasm and sass that she likes to dish out.
.:Special Skills:. Herbs and mixing them for healing, steady hands for stitching, knows a bit of archery
| ~ • ~ | History | ~ • ~ |
.:Birthplace:. Trikru Capital
.:Family:. Mother is deceased, father is unknown, no siblings.
.:Occupation:.Healer
.:History:. Laeta never knew her father. He left far before Laeta was ever born. Her mother, Freya, never told her why, despite years of incessant begging from Laeta, her mother never spoke ill of her father but never told her anything which was no better, only that he wasn’t around and when she would ask why her mother would shake her head and say that if fate had wanted him here, he would be here. Lae always wondered why she had been born in Trikru, after all her mother was Yujleda, so why was she in Trikru. Everytime she’d ask her mother would only shake her head and say it was because that was where fate meant for her to be born and who was she to question fate. Laeta would be loathe to admit it now, a grown woman of twenty-four, married, widowed, and a healer, that her mothers patient steadfast ways had become part of her.
The two of them lived in Yujleda all of Laetas life, in fact she never remembered Trikru, not long after birth they returned to her mothers home and there she was raised as an only child with no father. Eventually the ideas, the dreams of her father being a great clan leader washed away and were replaced with a dislike of him. For what reason that was good could he have had to leave her mother so alone during such a difficult time? Lae could think of none. So Laeta grew, into a young happy, healthy child. Strong, enthusiastic for all new things, and to some extent perhaps a bit bossy. While in Yujleda, Laeta had a relatively unbothered youth. She learned to fight, though proved to never be very good at it and not for lack of natural talent, more lack of interest. Who wanted to sling swords against a heavy shield? During her teenage years her Freyja persisted enough to get her to take up archery. Always insisting a woman must have at least one way to defend herself and feed herself, this was to be hers, so Laeta learned enough that she could at least hit a large target. Perhaps nothing small and quick, but she wasn’t terrible. Laeta asked her mother what she would do if she did not find a place she fit in, a job she could do, when so obviously she was not cut out to be a warrior. Her mother just shook her head and said that fate had a plan and who were we to question it.
As she neared her beginning years of womanhood her interest in the earth life around her and the ways to use it in benefit of a human began. So it wasn’t long before she was following another healer, named Hester, around demanding more information. That interest in healing only grew by a tenfold when her mother became ill with fever. She tried for many months to learn enough and keep her well, but as Lae neared her nineteenth year, her mother passed away. A couple days before she took her final breath Laeta asked her how she would survive and why this was happening. Freya merely shook her head and said that it was fate and who were they to question fate.
The immense fury that followed nearly destroyed her, and perhaps it would have if it hadn’t been for the older woman named Hester who after a week stormed into Freya’s home that she shared with Laeta and demanded her apprentice return to work. Hester was around 15 years older than Laeta and despite the name her parents chose, she was a striking woman who was always firm and fair. Lae resisted at first, but the way Hester had come in with a flourish and pulled her off of her couch, shoved her in the shower, put food in front of her face, and stared at her until she ate, it had deterred Lae from not saying no.
So starting the next day Laeta threw herself into her new founded apprenticeship beneath Hesters fine tutelage, letting anger and a sense of injustice fuel her. Days blurred into weeks, weeks into months, and soon it was several years but she was no longer just an apprentice but a healer herself. Until one day, it all stopped. There were always battles of some kind going on and Laeta was used to patching up warriors from various incidents. She was used to the flirting and the teasing, she never let it phase her. Her mind and heart were closed to all of the male variety, after all she had been raised with a woman who she had never seen a man touch her let alone flirt or kiss her. Laeta ignored it all or if the man was too rough, she took it upon herself to put him in her place. She wouldn’t know it at the time, but the day after her twenty-third birthday, when a bruised and bloodied Abrahm was dropped on her table by his comrades, her quiet little life started to change.
Abrahm was a mostly quiet man. He was tall, with short brown hair, and striking green eyes. He never flirted with her, or even spoke much aside from introducing himself. Instead he just laid back against the table and watched her work. Everytime she looked up from her stitches or her bandages she saw him watching. Laeta made a great healer in all but one thing, bedside manner. She seldomly spoke to her patients unless she had too and usually when she did it wasn’t a warm welcoming voice, but rather a demanding no-nonsense tone. She could remember everything and noticed even the slightest change in a condition, but if you asked her to comfort the ill, it wasn’t her strongest suit. She patched him up and told him he’d be fine, but he would need to return for wound dressing daily.
So he nodded, thanked her with a warmness she wasn’t used too, and left. Of course he returned the next day, but she was busy with another patient. Hester offered to tend to him, but he politely refused and sat in a chair and waited the next hour until Lae was free to care for him. Laeta was flustered by his whole behavior and when he sat back in the chair he only said hello and watched her work. This continued for another two weeks. He would return daily, wait whatever time she took to see him and then say minimal. Though his vocabulary did increase with time. The day after he’d asked her how her day was going, she made him wait while she ate lunch in front of him, staring at him defiantly. That day he didn’t ask her how she was doing, but instead spoke of a couple other things and watched her work.
Hester would merely smile as she passed by, never saying a word because after all this time she knew better than to bring up something that Laeta was obviously struggling with. After another weeks time his wound was healed and Laeta took great satisfaction out of telling him that he would not be needing to return any longer. Much to her dismay, he only smiled at her and left, telling her he appreciated her good care. For some reason when she left, she couldn’t help a stray bit of sadness that suddenly appeared in her heart. Confused, she put it off from her mind and let the day go quickly. The next day went by uneventfully, or at least it started that way. Her uneventfulness ended when her next patient sat down quietly on her table while she cleansed her hands with her back towards them. Imagine her surprise when she turned to see Abrahm, with a large gash down the side of his leg and several swollen areas on his face.
“What in the world?” She exclaimed with worry, looking at him and rushing up to his swollen eye all fingers poking and prodding. Her ministrations were obviously not gentle from the way he flinched a bit but despite the pain he had a smile across his face. “What are you smiling for?” She asked him with an aggravated tone, looking down at him from her standing position. “You’re worried for me.” He said with a smile on his face as his head was leaned back. If looks could kill he would have been dust, but luckily they don’t. Laeta’s face flamed up and her eyes went so dark they could have been black with anger. “I would never, I’m worried about the weeks of work I’ve already put in and you’ve gone and ruined perfect healing already.” She spit out in a flustered tone of voice. Moving about to get her supplies and refusing to meet his or Hesters eyes, though it was not hard to see the silent laughter that shook Hesters body.
So it continued, a few more weeks of him gradually getting more and more comfortable with talking to her. Her one worded answer soon became multi words and eventually graduated to sentences. Though she never dropped the disdainful façade she had everyone convinced was real, everyone except Abrahms. She fixed that wound up and he would show up the next day with a new one. Every day his treatments would take an hour, though usually only requiring ten minutes, somehow with Lae they stretched into an hour. He never invited her out, still sensing her refusal to admit what was happening between them.
It wasn’t until he started to get really sick that things changed. He’d been continuing his routine of injuring himself for a couple weeks, but despite all the treatments Laeta gave to his major wounds he came in with, there was a small little cut he had ignored on the underside of his arm. That one little cut began to get infected. It took a week or so to notice, but after that first day of him coming in paler than usual and looking a little more tired the downhill spiral hit fast. It didn’t take long for Laeta to figure out what was wrong, but fighting an infection was far more difficult than getting one. Abrahm ended up bedridden and ill, the pale skin and fevered heat brought Laeta into a state of near panic as she fussed over him, refusing to leave his side unless absolutely necessary. In his exhausted, miserable state he asked her to speak to him. So she did and for the first time it wasn’t short sentences or one worded replies. Laeta opened up and told him all about herself.
The night the fever got the worst and Laeta listened as his breathing was shallow and rapid, her panic hit a pitch and she finally began to cry. It was a few stray tears at first, but then those broke the flood gates and everything she had been holding in burst into physical action. She laid her had in the crook of his neck and begged him not to do this, to get better. When she finished pleading with him for good health, she despaired and asked why this was happening. He’d been in and out of delirium the whole evening, so she didn’t believe he was listening, but to her complete surprise he whispered, “Because fate wanted to bring me to you and I chose not to question it.” And though his voice was faint and raspy, the words rang a bell deep inside her as she looked up at him with wide eyes not knowing what to say. His fever broke that night.
She had him back up and returned mostly to normal within a couple weeks, only this time, she came to him. He never had to ‘accidentally’ injure himself again. The two married within another month much to the dismay of some of his friends who only saw her colder and almost haughty seeming exterior, but Abrahm who brought out the joy buried deep in her soul, loved her with a passion that could not be deterred and Laeta loved him with a steadfast patience that would have shamed the saints, regardless of what anyone else thought, they were happy.
Abrahm was a warrior and a warriors fight does not end until they do, so much to Laeta’s dismay she continued patching him up as a married couple. Happiness is not forever on the radiation covered Earth they lived on. While Laeta and Abrahm tried to have a baby for a while they had no success. Eventually the efforts were tampered down by an increasing need for Abrahm to leave home and go to battle. While Laeta loved him, she hated his occupation. One day when the warriors returned, he was not with them. Somehow Laeta knew this would happen and when the warriors imparted this information on her, she took it and his battle weapon with a stoic face. She walked past those crying over lost sons, daughters, wives, and parents with her head held high and if they didn’t know her, they would have said she didn’t care.
They couldn’t have been farther from the truth. Her heart had just been incinerated and so escaped to the privacy of her own home and once the door was closed, she broke down. Her wounded soul expressing itself through destruction of the first thing she saw. An old table that she had begged him to get rid of for its shabby exterior. She screamed her frustration and brought his heavy sword down over her shoulder swinging it into the top of the table. Under normal circumstances with an adept swordsman, the sword would have sliced the able in two, but in her hands it left a small one inch indention that was done more from the weight of the sword than the force of her swinging it. She brought it down again and again, leaving smaller marks across it before finally her exhaustion hitting her and she collapsed to the floor crying.
It was in that home that she grieved. For a week she grieved, for a week she stayed in her home without leaving, but after a week her teacher came and pulled her straight back out of the grave she was headed for and right back into the world. Leaving her where she is now, a steady healer. Though no longer an apprentice or a wife, Laeta remains a healer.
